GB you and the Zany P bros seem to have cornered the RC market, the p bros seem to have their business going strong and they are very busy now, but your show seems cool too. I like this little guy; my pops boss had a full sized one back in the 80' along with a Cessna 190? I got to go for a ride in a radial powered bird and it was awesome to the max! Cool series, write a book on rc modeling, thumbs up!😎
she's a LITTLE DEVIL! GOD I LOVE THE PITTS. I will be getting one almost bought one last week but the 200 dollar price tag threw me for a minute. but seeing it more and more I'm over that. hobby town here I come. can't wait to see you doing some snap rolls with this sweet little devil. buckle up and hold on it's going to be a wild ride!!!! 😎
Thanks Roy! Is the Hobby Town you go to in Bellingham? If so, tell Glenn the owner that you saw my video of this plane and that is why you are asking about it :) If the weather can hold up, we'll have to connect so you can see me fly it in person after I get the first couple flights on video.
GBLynden's RC count me in GB. I am always ready to get out for some Flying. I usually go to the Everett hobby town. But I want to check out the B ham store. Never been to it. The Everett store is more car's and other hobbies than planes but they do have a few planes and accessories. Always looking for a better hobby shop. We should definitely get together and do some Flying. I am on the Facebook page you have going so keep in touch BRO.
Yeah the Bellingham Hobby Town isn't as well stocked as the Everett one, but Glenn is a good guy. Hopefully we get another good patch of weather here soon, so we can fly together.
howdy friend. I got mine today. only have 1complaint. mine didn't come with the clips for the wings or the screw's for the gear. kinda bummed but I will get it together I just wish the parts were in the box. do those clips seam to hold the wings nice and tight. other than that I am as siked s you are to fly. 😎. maybe this weekend. hope for blue Sky's bro. Let's Fly!!!
Just got one too. The wings were a pain but it looks beautiful. Today is the day we have good weather. It’s now or never so help us god! Happy flying. Looking forward to your flight video.
Maiden flight went good it’s still in one piece. Watch the rates on the ailerons.they are a bit touchy. I mechanically adjusted them to lowest setting and set rates to 60% . And she flew great.
That is good to know! And congrats! So 60% on your low rates for the ailerons and maybe 75% on high rates? How did the rudder and elevator feel? Did they give you enough throws?
Thanks GB for this .. was very tempted yesterday to get one .. ended up getting a cessna for pleasure flying .. I am looking for an aerobatic bipe .. torn between this pitts and the python .. I do like the lycoming style cowl .. this is how a pitts should look .. will be watching for your flights..
You are welcome Jeff! Did you get the big Carbon-Z Cessna 150? My buddy Bill has one and it really is an impressive plane. Definitely turn in to my maiden and other flights I have with this plane in the future. I have I get some good weather soon, so I can give it some good rips.
Thanks Randy! I plan to have mine with the battery edge flush with the front on the maiden and then adjust from there as I open things up. I really hope the weather forecast this weekend changes quickly lol
Yep! I gotta keep the planes rolling and I have lots of good stuff in the pipeline :D I tried to maiden this on Saturday, but the weather kept John and I grounded. We both had planes to maiden and it just wasn't worth the risk. I hope to this next weekend though....
Where did you place the ESC? I see on your video you placed the receiver in the slight indentation in the fuselage. Thats where my ESC was out the box. So thats where I placed my ESC but I didnt have much room for the receiver.
Mine is the BNF version, so the receiver was already installed along with the ESC. I will say that after I recorded this footage and I was getting it ready to attempt a maiden, I did notice that the ESC was just floating underneath the battery tray in front of the receiver. It did have a chunk of foam adhesive on it that must have come loose, so I just moved it as far forward as I could away from the receiver (it is still pretty close though), and pushed the sticky foam against the bottom/side of the fuse to secure the ESC. I hope this answers your question :)
I am glad that was helpful and I am really glad I made sure to shoot that footage of the battery bay now. I circled back after I had shot everything except for the review notes wrap-up after I remembered I hadn't recorded any footage of that yet.
Hi GB... I've noticed on build videos that no one mentions prop balancing. I have seen a prop balancing video from Horizon Hobby and the fellow said it was very important to do as it saves wear and tear on the motor, ESC, and overall plane itself due to excessive vibration. He was using the DU-BRO balancer which I purchased to balance the prop on my HH PT-17. I was wondering what your thoughts were on prop balancing. I haven't had the chance to fly the 17 yet so not sure if I did it right. Good video.
Hi James! My approach to prop balancing is to do it after a prop strike. I have never had a problem with a prop on a new kit being unbalanced out of the box, so that is why I don't mention that. I am sure I am not alone. While I don't do that with my new planes testing planes unfiltered right out of the box, it is NOT a bad best practice to do that. I hope that answers your question :)
Hi GB, thanks for the reply. After a prop strike, that makes sense, that was not mentioned in the HH video. I have a spare prop for the 17 so maybe I will swap it for the other one before I maiden it. How could you tell if a prop is out of balance other than putting it on a balancer. I'm new to planes but have been flying RC Helis and have changed many rotor blades and had to set up blade tracking. Thanks again.
The most important indicator is noise. If it sounds smooth, you're good. Focus more on getting the CG dialed in and making sure your control surfaces are level.
@@GBLynden That's a big 10-4. I set my control rods up manually making sure the servo arms are horizontal and have all control surfaces lined up with the trailing wing edges. As far as I can tell the CG is where it should be with the battery installed and hatch cover on. It was tail heavy so I added some weights and it seems very level now. Thanks again.
@@GBLynden I even added wire"X"to the wings for a more scale look. I also had to put real large wheels to fly off grass. Maybe it was the large wheels but when It was inverted it was not good. Cant wait to see yours in the air.
I thought about adding those wires too, but the wings seemed pretty darn solid without them. I am very excited to finally put this plane in the air, so as soon as John and I can find the time with flyable weather.
I don't have it handy to visually verify, but I looked up what the manual says for you and it mentions the Spektrum™ AR636A 6-Channel Sport Receiver (SPMAR636A).
lol I am not an RC Reviewer that likes camera time for myself. I like to keep the focus on what I am reviewing because ultimately that is why most people are watching my video. Have you joined my Facebook Group Borderline RC Brotherhood? If not, you should :D
Of the hundreds of RC planes I have purchased, this is the worse. Two master flyers have tried to maiden this Pitts and so far it has crashed both times.
I find that hard to believe. I am hardly a master flyer and I flew mine really well on both 3S & 4S. The landings were far from perfect, but there are no where near what could be described as crashes. Either you got a bad one or something went wrong with your setup.
It had its moments, but it really wasn't that bad overall. I just added some wine into the mix to help misdirect my sense of time with those darn wing pins lol

I really like the 1800mah 4s the best in this plane ... about 1 cm back from the front of the tray makes it real sporty !

did you get a wing template ?
I don't understand what mean.
30% expo i was using 45% 2 decades ago then again it was an ultimate pitts are more unpredictable and no wheel pants
you can then putt the wing on, then screw the plastic bolt on
My ailerons aren't working. IV bound it. All works but the ailerons

It is $199 currently for the BNF and $179 for the PNP.
