This product review video will cover the remarkable E-flite Pitts S-1S RTF (ready to fly) RC model airplane. The E-fliter Pitts S-1S is a remarkable model RC airplane. It looks just great coming out of the box. All you need to do is add a charged battery, bind to your DSM2/DSMX transmitter and go fly. Horizon Hobby can provide the correct lipo battery.
The E-flite Pitts usded AS3X (Automatic Stabilization 3 Axis) to provide smooth flight control and response. Normally, a small RC biplane can be a nightmare to fly. Everything has to be just right . . . wing incidence, motor thrust mounting, balance, etc. Due to the short control moments, handling can be twitchy, especially is there is wind.
The AS3X solves all of these problems. As you can see in the video, it was quite windy on the day of my flights. But the E-flite UMX Pitts was one of the nicest handling and flying model aircraft I have ever experienced. It was just amazing how it flew, and this all linked back to the AS3X system. It truly is amazing.
I go over the instructions for this Horizon Hobby plane, to include verifying the correct center of gravity and the use of 70% control throws for the first flight. Super happy to have this model in my hangar.
Thanks to John H. for donating this plane to my channel.

What a perfect review. Thank you!! I've been wanting to see a review just like this before I made my purchase. I have been away from flying for about 30 years. I had no idea what binding was? Lol. Thanks to you I do now. O have a house of balsa pitts s2a that I have flown for years. I love that 40 size pitts!! Now thanks to your time and effort putting this review up I now can with Confidence Purchase this little pitts. Thanks again. Absolutely a great review . Good job sir
Bob: Appreciate your feedback! Tim
Hi Tim. Nice litle plane. And once agian a very good video. Have a nice day.
Trond: Thanks for checking in, have a good day! Tim
Great video! I'm very happy you are enjoying and sharing it! Cheers, Tim!
John: No worries, flies great! Tim
Very beautiful and charming bird Tim. I love micro birds too much. Very balanced review Tim.
Muzaffar: Many thanks! Tim
Howdy Tim! A bit late to the game for your post here, but really been enjoying your vids lately. I picked up the v2 UMX Pitts not to long ago (3s capable and has SAFE option), it's absolutely amazing. One thing I've found is you have to be careful pushing the limits of this model on 3s even with stock servo horn positions as it will tear the hinges loose. An easy fix but something to be aware of.
Glad to hear of this update!! Tim
Hi Tim how are you ☺️, where were you for a long time. I missed you and your videos. Thanks God you are back. May God bless you with health and harmony.
MM: Thanks! Tim
I'm still a beginner. I have my Sporty cub s-2 and its much slower than your awesome Pitts. I don't think e-flight is going to bring back the umx version, but the 32 incher is still for sale. I went up in a full sized Starduster too with a egghead from the left coast. He did barrel rolls loops with me on board, and I fell in love with the souped bipe look. Starduster is similar to the pitts. My pops boss from an aviation co he works at had a red Pitts and he did aerobatics in it. He also had a radial engined Cessna 190? can't remember, I got a ride in it and it was awesommmmee! Keep flying Tim, I might have questions later.
Free-Bird: No worries, and thanks for checking in! Tim
I have the UMX Beast (my only foamie). It's crazy how well it flies. Much better in calm winds, though.
Still, it's a hoot!
Richard: All good! Tim
Great video! By any chance have you flown the UMX voodoo?
Tom: Thanks for checking in, and unfortunately not for the Voodoo. Tim
@@TimMcKay56 I am tempted to get a UMX Pitts based on your review. I have only flown a few planes, but the UMX Voodoo is the best-flying plane I have flown. But I have not flown nearly as many planes as you have. I am impressed by how responsive and rock-solid it is.
that is a bnf bind and fly. rtf ready to fly comes with a transmitter
❄️🎄👍🏻 Tim
Hi Tim! My best friend wrote his Pitts off and gave me the receiver/motor/servos/ three blade prop/ motor mount. He lost the battery - no problem. My question is would this work in a Guillow Arrow conversion? (Too Fast?) I saw a converted oldtimer "Contest Commercial" - Jon Carlson - builder, on You Tube. It's 1.5 Mylar, 36" wingspan,. 152 grams (just over 5 oz) AUW. Would it have enough power for a model of this size and weight? I'm 71. Just getting back into the hobby. Thanks.
Chris: If you have the components of the Pitts, you are in great shape. They will work just fine in an Arrow. And they should be plenty of power for the converted oldtimer you mention. Tim
Tim I want to ask that which motor and Esc used in this model.
Muzaffar: Pittsw motor is the 180BL 3000Kv brushless outrunner (EFLUM180BLB. The receiver is the Spektrum SPMAS6410NBL. Just Google E-flite Pitts UMX instruction manual. E-flite has all of these available for download. Tim
Could you possibly give me the dimensions of the box? I drive a truck and I’m curious how much space I need for it. I can’t find the dimensions of the box anywhere.
David: The box for the Pitts is long gone. But the wingspan is 16" and the fuselage length is 14.5". Good luck! Tim
Does that plane have safe select?
No Safe Select. Tim
Thats not ready to fly if you have to bind it to your radio btw
Pretty close. 😊🤔 Tim
Please change the title from "RTF" to "BNF." a true RTF comes with a transmitter and battery. This is a complete Bind and Fly airplane.
Thanks! Tim
