it is heartbreaking that all single women are obese.
The thing that really gets me about The Button is that they clearly filled the show with certain types of people in order to maximize the number of rejections instead of trying to group up people who might be into each other.
Anyone who'd go on a show like The Button are the type of people who'd reject 99.9% of people though.
I mean…would you still watch the show if they did like each other?
It's because the contestants are basically walk-ins. You just sign up, fill out a questionnaire, get assigned a group, and wait in your group's waiting room until you're called. The whole point is that it's a speed dating show, they're not "matching" people they're just going through the paired groups until there's not enough contestants left.

What pains me the most about that show is how easily you could fix the its premise by having the button tap whoever presses it out instead of forcing the other person to leave.
As it is currently it's far to easy too hit the button the second it lights up repeatedly to hog as much screen-time as possible instead of giving a shit about the premise whatsoever.
It honestly seems to me like it's less about rejections and more about clout chasing.
For a show about dating the button is like ACTUALLY the worst wingman.
Two people can be having like a pretty damn good conversation and the button will just chime in “yknow he has fungus on his stomach” or some shit
Methinks the show is less about successfu speed dating and more about giving the audience some fool for the audience to laugh at.

And what an absolute scumbag to take advantage of what is normally a gesture of comfort. I mean in my naivity, the fact he hugged her after she said she liked anime, I thought it was because it is an unwritten custom among fellow otaku to hug. I mean have you ever been to a convention and seen all the free hug signs? Regardless, I'm surprised the showrunners didn't forbid leaving your seat, since that kinda defeats the point of the whole show.

The Joey situation on that second show was absolutely psychotic, but nobody should be tricked into liking someone they've never seen romantically only to discover they're a fucking whale. Being that fat means the person has *HUGE* issues when it comes to their relationship with food and it would only soil the relationship.

Like they found out she loves anime and cosplay and, having peaked in highschool at a time when it was still "cool" to bully and shame people for liking anime, went "Hey, you should wear one of your little costumes on the show, that'd really work in your favour, honest."

I felt so bad for everyone on The Button, that looked so uncomfortable for everyone involved.

The people pushing that button like their life depended on it seemed in their element.

A good comedian has a diverse and incredibly specific series of interesting topics which they can specifically lampoon.

Joey really went on a dating show about finding a partner without knowing what they look like, and spent the whole time trying to figure out what they looked like.
Because shows like these favor women and not men, at least initially. Women select on height and wealth. Men select on youth and looks. After that sure personality comes into place, etc. Almost no one in these kinds of blind shows ever makes it through once they see each other. Personality is NOT the top thing for which people select for, neither men nor women. It makes Joey look awful because male selection is obvious. They didn't show what kinds of questions women were asking though. "Where do you work? What are your hobbies? Do you travel? What do you plan for the future? How much do you earn?" Selection is different for both. I think the problem is going to the show in the first place. The problem with Joey is he has zero tact nor people skills.

People really feeling ashamed/ shaming other for admitting that you care about looks when that’s literally just how humans work. This video is honestly great because it shows the difference between a good fat check and a bad fat check. The first one with Nathan is an example of a good one because he was brief and straight to the point with the hug and didn’t dwell on it repeatedly. The second one with the dude who groped the women in the dark was an example of a bad fat check because not only did Joey fail to realize the chick wasn’t even fat but kept attempting fat checks despite telling himself that she probably was heavy anyways. In all honestly he was probably booted off the show because of this repeated behavior rather than the verdict of the woman herself, but could have been a combination of the two.

1) It was brief and sounded friendly. Some people like physical contact by means of hugging, and their character shows that. Now this might not have been Nathan's true character, but it was still tasteful, as his tone of voice and inflection masked his underlying motives well.
2) No matter how well you vibe with someone, appearances do count, and a lot. The guy wanted to confirm that at least size wise, she was ok.
And before anyone starts spouting "fat shaming" nonsense, let me clarify that I am not bashing her weight. I am pointing out that people have preferences, and appearance is not exempt. It is fine to reject someone (as a potential romantic partner, not as a human being) based on their appearance.

I think when people say that they’re “engineers” they’re actually engineering journalists, which are not real engineers. Real engineers would not be this desperate unless they were genuine attention whores which doesn’t really attract the engineer mindset.
Also a problem now that STEM is a hot field to be a in. A lot of people would rather be something else, but get pushed into engineering or whatever. Like how many black girls are literally sick of "black girls code" events they have to go to and they're begging to just be nurses or something. Or recent immigrants from India who'd love to just bust out a 9-5 at a parts store but can't even grab a coffee without someone asking them what tech company they work for.

Love how the whole point of Dating In The Dark is that you're supposed to fall in love with someone for their personality in an environment where you cannot judge based on appearance, and the FIRST and ONLY thing Joey does is objectify her and take every method possible to figure out her physical characteristics
Practically nobody in these dating shows goes there for actual dating. They just want to be on TV or getting possible prizes the show offers.

But he's a f'ing idiot. That Natasha bird was plenty hot, AND she loved him, and Joey thinks she's fat, like what's he after, a pray mantis. There is nothing fat at all about her. He's so focused on weight to pathological levels. It doesnt make you a dinosaur to live in that period of time on earth, there are distinctive differences that defines a species as one. In todays time living birds are genetically speaking dinosaur descendents. So yes they are dinosaurs, aswell as crocodiles for example.
