    This album saved my life. I was the most depressed I've ever been at university, and hadn't left my bedroom in over a week. One day the sun was shining (rare for northern England lol) and I stumbled across this album. I was a new hip-hop fan and never heard of J. Cole. I decided to throw it on and in a moment of strength found it in me to leave the house and walk around in the sun while it played. I listened to it 3 times back to back. It gave me a sense of strength and energy that I hadn't found in a long time and it kicked me out of my slump and down the path to a better place.
    I really wouldn't be here without 2014 forest hills drive, it holds a special place in my heart

      Admittedly I like to ignore this album bc it's been over played & over referenced since it came out....but whenever I end up listening to it again without it being background music, I remember how wonderful it is & why people love to talk about it. I'm happy to hear what a positive impact it had on you. That just goes to show the power of music, especially at the right place & right time!

    Damn I teared up at love yourz... Me and my friends chose that song to play at the funeral of one of my best friends. He died in his early 20s. It was a really unlucky situation where he should never ever been in. Music made by people like Cole and Mac helped me through the last months. Music is gorgeous and IMO better than any religion there is.

  • @Zekew24
    @Zekew24 5 років тому +12

    03' adolescence is such a beautifully raw and uncompromising song to me. There's a whole off kilter kinda feel to the beat and his flow, where everything kinda feels like its falling down around you and drags a little bit which gives it a somber nostalgic vibe. Truly one of his best and realest tracks in my opinion, my favorite alongside Love Yourz on this album!

    Fun Fact: According to a recent tweet from Ibrahim Hamad (J. Cole's manager/co-founder of Dreamville), "2014 Forest Hills Drive" almost had 1 feature. Ibrahim said that J. Cole reached out to the legendary Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey) to sing the hook on "'03 Adolescence". Mos couldn't come thru by their deadline, so Cole ended up singing the hook himself.

    Love Yourz always makes me take a step back because I struggle in life right now, and while I would never say someone’s life is be ignorant enough to say someone’s life is better than mine, a struggle is a struggle. Self-love comes from confidence and success.
    I hope that day comes soon.

    I was at one of the most impressionable times in my life, my sophomore year of high school. It was the first time I found J. Cole and it was with Forrest Hills Drive. I friend of mine recommended him to me and it was an instant connection. The amount of times I’ve listened to this album at this point t in my life, nearly 7 years later, I still feel like it’s the first time I’m listening. Cole saved my life and I love his music so much

    Great review. I didn't get around to listening to this album til about a year after it dropped. This is definitely J. Cole's classic, outside of a few of his mixtapes. I always thought his albums were uneven in lyrics, concepts and production -- but he nailed it on this one.

    This album means the world to me!! Working on a farm having no clue where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do in the summer of 14’ blasting this in my earbuds gave me an escape. Know every word of the whole album. I am so ecstatic that you loved it as much as it deserves to be loved. Greatest album ever in my opinion.
    Ps, this album is a walk through the life of an individual. From him a young age worrying about a girl in his class, to him entering the rap game, to him looking back in retrospect and reflecting on his life
