    Hi Dr. Elyse, I've have been doing the hand/finger stretching on my mother affected right side. Spasticity has affected the right arm tightness along with her right hand on some fingers. I've been doing 30 seconds on each finger and thumb. 3 times each, it has been working to relax her fingers and spasticity in right arm as well. So far seeing this video has helped. Thank you for your expertise.

    I have pain in both shoulders & neck, contractures in my elbow and hand wit extreme sensitivity in my palms & both sides tightly clenched fingers. It took before I could tolerate being touched by a sheet, washcloth, or being lottioned to prevent dryness. First, I used round facial pads to clean my arm, I soaked my hand in warm ware dried with facial pads very slowly. I use a-tips on long stick to dry crevices where the hand & fingers meet which is still quite painful.. To cut my nails so that they won’t grow into palm of my hand, I apply lidocaine ointment for 15-30 min.. Sometimes I must reapply ointment to entire nail bed & print side to lessen the pain when using nail clippers. No damage to the brain, unable to get MRI because of contractures & the outward turn of my Lee & foot, also…🙃💕🙃💕🙃What are good exercises can to help me reboot my brain, leg & foot.& elbow & hand. The elbow & fist is being more contracted forcing my homemade gauze covered pencil to be released more quickly than before as well as being more painful…Please advise how I can reuse my hand & elbow without pain…🙃🙃🙃

    I am being folowing you and it is going very nice. I have 3 times a week phisiotherapies at this clinic plus folowing your exercices at home. Plus the botoxe i have taken twice to reduce spacity wich is very reduced compared to what it was a year ago but my bicep has some residual spascity as my fingers and hand and the forearm. I wil take a third time botox in April.

    A curiosity ! At the end of this video on the background of it you have a guitar vox amplifier. That is nice because i used to play guitar and since i had my stroke i never played again. I just managed the guitar with my only good right hand just to retune it twice with the same strings it had at before i had the stroke. My both 2 guitars.☺

      @@PostStrokeOrg yes it is but first for to play the guitars and possibly include them on my dayly exercises to strengthen fingers and hand of the fretboard plus arm i have to turn my hand more functional on reducing the spascity. Thanks for rising my mood but i will not have the same speed on chords for example or on soloing as i had before but who knows? First step is to reduce spascity and turn arm more funccional for the more dailly actions of life then i will see the guitars. And continue with physiotherapy sessions...

      @@PostStrokeOrg yes it is retuning just with the right hand 😑 but i'll keep on trying you see i play guitar since i had 16 years old to much to forget. Plus i will have my first consultation on endocrino for trans people next May sheduled for months since last sptembre. Tomorrow 20 of February of 2024 i wil have a cosultation with my psychiatry doctor who made me the report of gender Dysphoria and sheduled for endocrinology. I wich i was better on my movements i wated for this all my life and i am wating since i was out. Anyway i have got to do one more exame an Eco doppler to my legs before i start with the endocrino.My ankles, especially on my left leg, sometimes swell but my feet used to swell before the stroke, especially in the heat or when I played the guitar sitting down, which is not the case now.

      I have to reduce spascity at my biceps on the left arm the tendon that goes from the botom of the bicep and ataches to the radius bone and al the bicep has much too thickness wich makes my forarm below to raise. The lift of the left arm raises the forearm approximately 20° to 30° depending on the day. Is there any exercise to reduce biceps spasticity that you recommend, please.

    Thank you so much for this video! I had a stroke in 2006 at the age of 21 and another one in 2007, both after embolization to shrink a large avm. Managed to get full sensation and movement in affected arm and hand after the first stroke, but after the second one in 2007 my arm is still paralyzed. Will start doing your stretch exercises daily NOW! A question though, my left wrist is SO extremely bent downwards inwards and I can't get the wrist to flip to the left for more than maybe a few millimetres, and also can't get it stretched to a straight position in over 8 years :( My fingers are hanging straight down except for my thumb which is as spastic as my wrist and wants to stay inside my hand even if it is not a fist. Can I do these stretches even though my wrist isn't straight and just "wing it" a bit? Thanks in advance, love Caroline from Sweden

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your experience❤️ from your description, if your wrist is contracted in a bent position, it may be worth talking to your doctor about medical or surgical treatment. You can definitely still try a stretching routine but I’d just be very careful of pushing to hard if that wrist doesn’t want to move much. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help❤️❤️

      @@PostStrokeOrg Thank you so much for your answer! Do you want to know something? This is truly amazing in my mind at least, I started doing the frozen shoulder etc videos before the wrist and hand exercises on Sunday. Yesterday I could almost reach my chest with my hair brush. I've done the exercise when you're "squeezing" your arm right under your elbow to try and rotate your wrist. On Sunday I couldn't get my wrist to turn even a bit, but yesterday I could flip it (with the help of my other hand) so that my closed left fist could lie on my left thigh with a much more straight wrist! And also, I've done the mirror therapy exercises with my mirror box that I had abandoned, about an hour every day. Today I even dropped the brush 5 times because my hand was so relaxed after doing the shoulder exercises to warm up! I'm SOO happy! You've helped me get back to training and finally I have a little bit of hope :) Lots of LOVE Caroline xxx

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  2 роки тому

      @vennelagudisa, I firmly believe there is always hope for improvement. In addition to a daily stretching routine and weight bearing exercises, I'd recommend talking to your doctor about medication, Botox injections, and the use of electroacpuncture. You'll definitely want to talk with your doctor to see what's right for you but there are options out there to try.

    Why is it when I yawn my hand opens and my fingers are loose

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  2 роки тому

      @stevekierstead, That is a great question and one I don't have a good answer for. Typically, I see tightening of the fist when someone yawns or sneezes due to spasticity and high muscle tone. It could possibly be related to the amount of tone (or lack thereof) you have in your arm/hand. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful 🙂
