Thank you to all the people that support Elena from afar! It’s always a joy seeing people enjoying and embracing Italian literature, and I hope that other people from our nation will receive as much love as she did! I also recommend “everything calls for salvation”, very touching.
What a lovely list of novels! I read Talking at Night because you recommended it in a TikTok video and I want to thank you because it is my favourite book of this year! I adored it, even more because it made me sob. I'll definitely be checking out more books off of this list. 💕
Ahhh I’m so glad that you enjoyed it! That book felt like a rollercoaster with my emotions. If you are looking for something similar then I recommend One Day (I cried even more with this one)
@@cupofkeyshae i had so many takes that I never posted, and random clips that were never uploaded because i felt so odd in the beginning. It takes some getting used to. Subscribed to make sure I dont miss your first upload. You got it!
I think you would love Toni Morrison. I always describe her book, “The Bluest Eye” as devastatingly beautiful. Her writing is some of the most well-crafted I’ve ever read and it’s my favorite classic!!
You and I have very similar reading taste. If you haven’t read “Elena Knows” by Claudia Piniero, I think you would love it. Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante is incredible. Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy as well. Also, “On earth were briefly gorgeous. “
Fantastic grouping. I loved a handful of these, have and haven’t read a handful of these and am immediately looking into getting my first Lispector books now too! 🤌🤌
The beauty with Lispector is that you can start anywhere, but Agua Viva is another good one that I enjoyed (also short for you to try out the writing style). Let me know what you think!
You have great taste in books! I read Tender is the Flesh and it wasn’t for me because it made my stomach upset reading it. But I totally see why it’s so well regarded. It explores what it means to be human in such a unique way. I kept asking myself how people could disassociate while eating the “meat” and not even think of them as humans. I reflected on how we do this with animals now and factory farming. I will say no other book has ever made me want to become vegan so bad. She must be sponsored by PETA 😂
omg yes. I was listening to the audiobook as I was making dinner. Specifically i was cutting chicken thighs during the chapter of the factory tour. I had to stop and reflect. You might enjoy Never Let Me Go. I can't explain further, but i think of both so often
I read the short story "The Lottery". I think that was the name of it and I think it was by Shirley Jackson. That story so horrified me though that I really didn't like it and I guess I don't enjoy Shirley Jackson. I absolutely love Rebecca. I've read it so many times and it always takes me away from whatever I have going on at the time.
I love memoirs. I thought The Glass Castle was O.K. I also read her follow-up book about her grandmother's life. I can't remember the name of that one. I really didn't like that one because I really disliked her grandmother. The memoir I love is Blackbird by Jennifer Lauck.
The Glass Castle is the only book I’ve read by the author, but I think I’ve seen the cover of the book you are referring to. I’ll look into the memoir you mentioned. Thank you!
Great list!!🎉 I loved I Who have never known men so much!! I actually made a video with my interpretation of the moral of the story!!❤❤❤ (it's called Women in translation)

Toni Morrison is a genius! 'Sula' is my favorite of hers!!
omg yes I read The Bluest Eye a few months ago and completely agree. I have Sula on my physical tbr
Except… it’s not classic.

Huge fan of Elena Ferrante, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Shirley Jackson (although I haven't read WHALITC yet).
three of my favoritessss and that book is one of my favorite Shirley Jackson's
@@athenasatheneum I'll look for it the next time I'm at Half Price Books!

You have great taste in books! I loved, I Who Have Never Known Men!!!!
It’s so good! I’ve heard that Everything You Ever Wanted by Luiza Sauma is similar
Every book you talk about, I’m like “okay, I’m reading that book next… no, I’m reading that one.. wait THAT one” 😂
ahahahha i love that but also sorry 🤣
I think you would like “the name of the wind”
Oo who’s the author?
@ Patrick Rothfuss 💗

you have to read hangsaman by shirley jackson! one of my favorite books of all time, it’s my favorite of hers
omg yes its on my list!

Yes, I’ve read the short story collection as well. It wasn’t my favorite. I much prefer Hill House or Castle. Rebecca is the type of escapism I need

I cannot stop thinking about “if an Egyptian cannot speak English “…. And it’s at least six months since I read it…😢
i haven't read anything like it honestly

Jeez... People would rather eat each other than do without meat? 😵💫
