    This is a lovely recipe from our friend Hazel Wallace AKA The Food Medic on social media, she has 2 cookbooks and many great recipes online. Check her out and hope you enjoy!
    Peanut butter blondie with choc chips
    1 tbsp coconut oil, plus extra to grease
    1 x 400g tin of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
    125g smooth peanut butter
    4 tbsp milk or water
    2 tsp vanilla extract
    90ml maple syrup or honey
    ½ tsp salt
    ½ tsp baking powder
    ¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda
    60g dark chocolate, chopped
    1 tbsp cocoa powder
    Preheat the oven to 200ºC/400ºF/gas mark 6. Grease a shallow 15cm square or round baking tin.
    Place the chickpeas in a blender or food processor and add the peanut butter, milk, vanilla, maple syrup, salt, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda. Blitz until smooth. Stir in the chocolate, then tip the batter into the prepared tin.
    Melt the tablespoon of coconut oil in a small bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water. Stir in the cocoa powder, then drizzle half the chocolate sauce over the batter and swirl it through the mixture with a knife.
    Bake for 16-18 minutes. Set aside to cool in the tin for 15 minutes, then turn onto a wire rack to cool completely.When ready to serve, cut into squares and drizzle over some more peanut butter and the remaining chocolate sauce. Store the peanut butter and chickpea blondies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
    All the best,
    Dave & Steve.

    It's bonkers but these are actually amazing! The batter was 'meh', the warm cooked cake was ok, but once they cooled they became a solid 10.

      I agree 100%. Ive made these a few times now and they're SOOOOO good. BUT, you have to chill it first. I'd definitely recommend making them for the next day.

    I made this recipe and i was really curious if i could taste the chickpeas and if it would be sweet enough. Honestly it is SOOOOOOOOO good !! There’s no chickpea taste and it’s just sweet enough.

    Hi guys, what an amazing channel. It is awesome the amount of knowledge you're putting out there.
    I cooked dozens of your recipes. Never was disappointed. And now I got to the point where I can improvise a healthy, whole food plant-based dinner any time because you really lay out the key points and once you've got them you're all set ! So lots of thanks for that.
    Oh and also just to let you know, I'm french and I just love it when you speak English with the french accent it's hilarious how well you captured it. Cracks me up every time.
    Cheers from France lads !

    I made them twice already (bd week) and everyone loved them and couldn't tell chickpeas were the main ingredient. You can taste them if you eat it straight out of the oven but when it cools down it's just peanut buttery goodness.

    Would it defeat the purpose of using no flour to inquire whether one can substitute Chickpea / Gram flour in place of the tin of Chickpeas?
    Also with regards to adding Tahini, am interested in the idea though can Tahini paste be used despite being bitter from my experience or can be sweetened for use in desserts?

    I actually have chickpea flour that I got from the food bank in my area. I didn't even know there was such a thing! :) This is a silly question but could I use that chickpea flour instead of the whole chickpeas? It looks like it's just ground up chickpeas.

    I'm always challenged using chickpeas or better yet chickpea/besan/gram flour. Can I substitute chickpea flour in this recipe?

    • @tedcoombs7762
      @tedcoombs7762 6 років тому

      Angela Segarra the chickpeas will be raw so they may not cook properly in the time...

    • @angelasegarra2339
      @angelasegarra2339 6 років тому

      Ted Coombs I know that chickpea flour can be raw or cooked? I'm not sure if the one I purchased is raw or cooked since I bought it from the bulk bin. Anyway, this recipe calls for baking the blondies. So would be the problem? Would it taste raw, maybe in the final product? Hmmmm. Anyway, looking forward to finding ways to incorporate more chickpea flour in sweet and savory recipes.

    I love your channel and I love your recipes. This one sounds great It was good to meet your guest Dr Hazel but for someone who says she walks around in scrubs all day, licking fingers ,touching her hair while preparing food umm not very hygienic. Eggs aren't for vegans

  • @remifjelldal7299
    @remifjelldal7299 6 років тому +29

    This doctor believes eggs are an "..awesome source of important nutrients.." and "While they are indeed high in dietary cholesterol this does not necessarily mean it will increase the cholesterol levels in our blood......" ...."..., it has been shown that egg, and cholesterol, intake is not associated with heart disease..." i though with 7 years of med school and "She is currently pursuing a masters degree in Clinical Nutrition and Public Health nutrition at University College London".. would make your knowledge about nutrition a bit better.
    dietary cholesterol increase blood cholesterol is very basic nutrition 101.. how does she not know that after all that medical training... Kudos...
    this recipe is nice though.

      After reading "How Not To Die" and "The China Study" and checking some of the hundreds and hundreds of sources, I just cannot believe that there are young doctors who specialize in nutrition and still think that animal products are a great way to stay healthy. I get that some of these products do the job of nourishing a human, but modern science knows that these are not healthy. And to be honest, it saddens me that someone like her is being promoted on a vegan UA-cam channel.
