Years ago I asked my boyfriend to make me a vegan cake for my birthday and he made this recipe. Our tradition is to make each other a special dessert for each others birthday since we met. It was so good, I was blown away! He makes it every year now and we call it my birthday cake :) Bravo on such a great and simple recipe and thank you for making it so accessible! ❤️
I made this and it is my favorite chocolate cake ever! I absolutely love it. What a great recipe. And making the chocolate icing was really fun. I had to try that twice too, the first time I added too much water to my chocolate chip but then the second attempt actually worked. Thank you!
This cake is delicious. I did add an egg & got a 2&1/4" rise, but it doesn't effect that dedicate chocolate nutty almond flavor. Also in all my chocolate cakes & icings I add 1/4 tsp ea. of Cinnamon & instant coffee to enhance the chocolate flavor. Great recipe everyone should try.
I have absolutely 0 baking experience, and everything I've ever baked has been a complete disaster.. tonight, this cake was the exception!! My boyfriend and best friend (both not vegan) absolutely loved it, and it's almost all gone already 🙈😂 I was so surprised at how good it taste, and how easy it was to smash it! I would 100% recommend giving this a try! Thanks the happy pear ❤️ xx
This cake looks so good that I need to make it! However I'm allergic to nuts so I'm going to try using semolina instead of ground almonds, wish me luck! 😲
I made this a few days ago and it was absolutely gorgeous!!! I cheated a wee bit though ~ I didn't want to have to wait for an hour or so for it to bake and then cool, so I divided the mixture into 12 Muffin cases ;) and by the time I'd washed everything up they were ready to eat and they were sooo yummy! :)
Love your channel! I just recently graduated from vegan culinary school and started my own youtube channel! Great to see such great inspirational content :D
Looks epic lads minus the frosting actually healthier chocolate cake. Does the frosting melt? As in if you made it the night before would it hold its form? Thanks guys
Is the recipe from the Masterclass at MasterChef Australia where Heston made his chocolate mousse? I was amazed by the recipe, and so cool that you used it with this cake! :) Xx from Norway
Hey, guys when they say 'white flour of choice' does that mean i can use self raising flour and leave out the baking flour?? Looks yummy gonna get ingredients soon >..< thank you Happy Pear!!!!
That cake looks awesome! 😍😍😍 I think I'm gonna bake it next sunday (as it is my cheat meal day 🐷)#fudgylicious cheers from Mexico City! Btw, you should come over here someday. Love you guys!
Made this for my fiance's birthday. It was delicious but I ran into a couple problems. The cake stuck to the bottom of the pan for some reason, even though I greased it (maybe grease it really well, use a liner, or add flour?) The chocolate never got to mousse consistency, more like pancake batter consistency, even after stirring it for a good 20 minutes and putting it in the fridge. I added more melted chocolate and it became a little bit firmer, but chunky (didn't add more water). When I put it on the cake, it ended up being fine, but didn't look very pretty! It tastes amazing though, and I felt like the issues I ran into were relatively forgiving.
Am not sure how to measure out the grams. I only have cups, teaspoon, and tablespoon. Can anyone help me with knowing how much flour, almonds, cocoa powder, and coconut oil in cups or other meaurments?
Looks so very delicious. I need to convert the measurements to something this American can understand before I try it. Silly Americans not using the metric system.
Baking Powder IS Baking Soda with a kind of acid like Citric Acid or Tartar. 😉 Otherwise it wouldn't release Bubbles and make the cake fluffy. Technically (almost) the same like Bath Bombs. Same reaction. 😊
Sifting doesn't make any difference.. when you start whisking the ingredients together, new lumps start forming which then have to be whisked away again. There was even research that it doesn't matter, if you sift it. The technique comes from former times, when little stones or insects could be found in the flour. The sifting was making sure that none of them wen into the dough.
INGREDIENTS
150g flour (they used spelt)
100g ground almonds
25g cacao powder
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
150g coconut oil
250ml maple syrup (or other liquid sweetener)
1tsp vanilla extract
100ml rice milk (or other non-dairy)
FROSTING
200g dark chocolate pellets
150ml boiling water
handful ice + water in other bowl
Pesvut Thank you so much! ❤
Awesome thanks for sharing! :D
Here's a stupid question... How much is 150g of flour in cups? Recipes that measure by weight drive me batty. Sigh...
Kathy_In_Carolina a cup of spelt flour is about 115-120g i believe, so around 1¼ cup to 1⅓ cup
Pesvut, thank you very much!

3:44 you GUYS are so funny and natural! I enjoy watching these videos
Try using applesauce in placement of half the oil.. to make it less fatty and applesauce will make it even more fudge-like!
Amazing tip! Thanks so much!
That is a great tip, defiantly I will try this way :D
Thanks I was going to ask if that works!
Did it work?!
Could also use boiled or roasted sweet potato, as that seems to complement chocolate far more.
can't get enough of this channel
Hey guys! You must bring this cake back. People need it these days.

Ah brilliant happy birthday! Hope you enjoyed 😄👍🙌
Fantastico! Bravi! ;-) To make it a kind of "lighter" or floffy do you think I could add acquafaba?
Looks AMAZING !!!! And it’s food like this that will help me stay vegan
Awesome cake guys. What brand of chocolate could you recommend here in the uk? X
This looks so good I can't even! 😊
I love you guys
YUMMY!!

Looks insane! Would a different liquid sweetener work in the place of maple? Eg honey or rice malt syrup?
Honey isn't vegan.
I call the end piece!
I made it, it is delicious!!! Today I'll make the sweet potato and lime soup :p
Ah you're brill! 😄🙌🙌
That cake looks awesome! 😍😍😍 I think I'm gonna bake it next sunday (as it is my cheat meal day 🐷)#fudgylicious cheers from Mexico City!

I love Chocolate!
Who is making this cake?
Maple syrup is ridiculously expensive here in New Zealand - could you suggest an alternative? Thanks
Molasses, agave syrup, coconut sugar! 😄😋🙌
can we use hot milk of choice insted of water for the frosting?
I haven't tried that before but give it a go! 😄😋🙌
How does the chocolate not split when you melt it with water? I thought that if you are melting chocolate, you need to prevent water touching it.
It's a fantastic recipe- defies everything you think you know! 😂😂 Try it out! 😄😋🙌
that's what I've always thought too
How can someone dislike this video?
Could you use sugar instead of maple syrup? If so how much do you think?
Avo-Free Chocolate Mousse Part II: Poundcake Frosting Boogaloo! Looks scrummy, and easy to throw together, into the bargain. TFP : )
Is the oven on 160 degrees? I couldn't hear it well
😍😍😍😍😍
Am not sure how to measure out the grams. I only have cups, teaspoon, and tablespoon. Can anyone help me with knowing how much flour, almonds, cocoa powder, and coconut oil in cups or other meaurments?
j reyes try using like an online converter I always use when I'm cooking with limited measuring utensils
Janeration Personal Okay, thank you!
I'm a fairly new vegan. Anybody have any recommendations on a good vegan chocolate here in the US? I REALLY want to try this recipe. LOL!
I am SO making this today!!!!!! :D
yummy!
Looks so very delicious. I need to convert the measurements to something this American can understand before I try it. Silly Americans not using the metric system.
If you do not like Coconut Oil, what can be used instead?
You can use a vegan butter instead colette 😊🙌
I really want to try this but I'm allergic to almonds! What can I use as a replacement? :(
Plain flour instead will be fine!! 😃🙌👌
Thanks guys! Can't wait to try :D
Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Baking Powder IS Baking Soda with a kind of acid like Citric Acid or Tartar. 😉 Otherwise it wouldn't release Bubbles and make the cake fluffy. Technically (almost) the same like Bath Bombs. Same reaction. 😊
hello! do you use celsius?
Yes.
Could I add berries into the dough, or would that make it too moist?
I would add chopped walnuts... :)
TFS that mousse/ganache would be even more decadent if you used heavy coconut cream and heated it instead of water...yum yum yum🍽🍽👍🏽👍🏽
Please mention the ingredients in written and in quantity.
Can the cake be made by whole grain wheat flour?
INGREDIENTS
150g flour (of your choice)
100g ground almonds
25g cacao powder
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
150g coconut oil
250ml maple syrup (or other liquid sweetener)
1tsp vanilla extract
100ml rice milk (or other non-dairy)
FROSTING
200g dark chocolate pellets
150ml boiling water
handful ice + water in other bowl
160 degrees? Not sure I heard right.
Yes, Celsius! 😋😋
I just tried eating my screen
Omg!!! 😋
Wait what's tamari
OMG! Baking pouder contains acid as well! Read the ingredients on the baking pouder package. Without acid the cake would not rise!
i always prefer the batter
🙌😍
Can you make vegan waffles?
Isn't it unusual to measure the coconut oil in grams?
Looks wicked :-)
160 degress Celsius of Fahrenheit?
Javonta Adams 160° Celsius, it's 320℉
Totally wicked
It's SO purely DECADENT Barbara!! 👌👌😍
We had two slices each last night ...bad.
Can i have some?
OMG!!!!!!!!
Fudgy! 😍😎
thought Dave was supposed to be making it?
"Loki, this is madness.."
Beautiful madness 😄👍🙌
The Happy Pear hahaha!
Who's eating everything you cook though?🤔
Kjlm45 The crew.
160° C or F ?
That's celcius.

Anyone else watching this video for home ec?

A tsp salt is tooo much. Go for the large pinch.
