Yes. At 4:55 you said it right. Total War made the first foray into fantasy with Warhammer, and now they're making a second foray into Mythology. This could be the POTENTIAL Age of Mythology Total War - but they must expand to Egypt. EXPAND! CA! EXPAND!
@@AndysTake We must either collab or make a video petition to CA at some point to add Egypt. Because at this point, CA knows that people will want to expand this saga title into a full blown age of mythology total war. It is very tempting on their side. You can't tell me that the CA devs aren't tempted to add other mythologies already....
I never considered buying Troy before your review. I might add this one to my steam library real soon now. 😅 You make very good stuff btw, loved all your TTW videos so far, keep it up. :)
I'm glad the game got this update. I didnt latch onto it like other total wars but i thought it was pretty good and gorgeous, not to mention I got it for free on Epic. But I think I might hold out and wait for a steam sale cuz in a year or two some of those mods are going to be insane. If I only buy one total war game this year its going to be Warhammer 3.
*Two months later* and the game is mostly dead. It's just above ToB on steam charts. So, what happened exactly? I think most people who played it for free on Epic had a so-so time with the game but were mostly disappointed. Once it came out on Steam, most people weren't motivated enough to spend so much money on such a seemingly small addition to a game they got for free. (And, they were right.) There are very few mods for Troy on steam, very little activity in the forums, and pretty much no content creators on youtube are covering the game anymore. It's DOA and I wouldn't be surprised if there is no further support for the game, including dlc's.
Yeah perhaps you’re right. I’m honestly happy with the state of the game, and don’t believe it necessarily needs any further expansions. I’d be okay if it did, but I’d honestly rather they focus on a new game.
God damn at last some love to this game. Ppl hate it so much and is rly not bad, is my child hood dream this game. From where i watched troy movie again and again
I watched the video with the hope they fixed/improved something. But unit collision is still broken ( you can see ghost chariots passing through people with no collision 6:03 ), still ridiculous battle animations, still ridiculous death animations, still fantasy ridiculous projectile trajectories, still worse blood than medieval 2, I don't see they fixed siege battles, right? So we still have stairs coming magically out of thin air, city doors opened when hit by the horns of a big guy, etc.... The good things they introduced are: pretty water, pretty grass, pretty mud, pretty rocks. If that's all we want i will watch a national geographic documentary instead. Another good thing they introduced: warhammer style monsters. Because this game is pure fantasy, but I can't enjoy that either because fantasy is better when effects are realistic and not ridiculous (imagine Gandalf in lord of the rings killing orcs with laser beams coming from his eyes and placing siege engines out from his pocket, Frodo flying around by flapping his ears and Aragorn destroying castles with rainbows). The battles and its effects, physics, animations, collision, siege mechanics, misiles, etc. are so unrealistic and ridiculous, that I have to give up hope for this game. They don't listen gamers (their final clients), they could be earning huge amounts of money with this game if they would just listen what their clients want. It's very sad.
I get you, man. I too MUCH prefer the fantasy realism of LOTR over Warhammer. That being said, I think it works in the game, definitely not EXACTLY what I would like, but I think they made a good move with this one. Might not be to your taste and that’s absolutely fine, but I do hope we get a realistic M3 or something with everything you said.
@@AndysTake Thank you for your reply :) I'm sorry if i was bitter in my comment, but that's just because of frustration... it could have been a great game, the mix fantasy-history is great and i loved the idea. But i can't zoom in the battle and see all that nonsense animations... i could still forgive the collision, but those animations i start to laugh and i can't feel immersed in the battles. I hope at least other people enjoy this game :) my best wishes for future features.
@@mkNf-uk8py I totally see what you mean! In my opinion the best mix of animation, unit collision and feel of realistic kill animations and battles were in Medieval II. Although I love the cavalry charges in Warhammer haha :)
@@AndysTake Can you believe i loved to play rome2 (my first TW game) until i tasted M2TW and rome1? now i can't go back to rome2 despite of its better graphics. It's all my fault for tasting the good old engine, heheh. Now i'm cursed to get stuck at playing all its mods (less restrictions for modding, was another good thing the old engine had (i even made a recruitment population script mod for M2TW). I don't think medieval 3 will be a good game if they don't change/improve warscape engine, make it so moddable as before, etc.... too many improvements to believe it XD heheh
@@mkNf-uk8py I know… R1 was my first game, and then I played every other after that. I had virtually no complaints about R1 or Medieval 2, but the second Empire came, Total War has never been the same. It’s been great in a lot of ways, but never the same.
Great video, dude. It's so nice to hear someone actually explain why Troy is a great game. I'm so tired of the "toxic" TW fans who just hate on everything, review bomb things into the ground, and behave like spoiled children online.
Depends on which one you’re referring to, but I cooked this one up myself actually since I loved both versions so much. Thought I’d combine them and extend it. I hope you like it :) ua-cam.com/video/ErmREvzHxoA/v-deo.html
In this time period, I don’t know if it would’ve been fun to play, and the gods know that naval warfare in Rome and Attila were not nearly as fun as the ones in Empire, Napoleon and Shogun. But maybe it could work.
I mean this is just like warhammer , it's been warhammer ever since its release and now it's become it. I don't get why they even bothered with the half assed historical mode even.
Yes I think that last part is the actual question. Personally, I think it was an honest mistake, trying to cater to both types of fans without really catering to anyone. It still is a valid option, but in my opinion the game is just so much better with the either-or-approach, rather than the halfway mode. Also, if you didn’t like Warhammer, but enjoy historical myth, then this is so much better, which is the case for me.
@@AndysTake historical and myth , two things they are trying to mix again. My issue with CA is , if they really wanted a fully fleshed historical mode then just use a different engine , because this game uses the same warhammer engine which is fantasy first and foremost. What they are doing here is just removing the spells and monsters as well as single entity units. If that's not lazy than I don't know what is. And for the record I loved warhammer , played it to death , but am now sick of it because I have seen it all.
@@AksamRafiz I understand where you’re coming from. I never liked Warhammer because I dislike the franchise and the performance is subpar, but Troy fixed both of those for me. Still wish they had fleshed out the historical mode more though, but maybe in the future.
@@AndysTake how do you like the troop combat? Am asking because it's going to be near identical now with the monsters. I suppose I get you point , for some who never tried warhammer this is a great start?
@@AksamRafiz Personally, the troop combat seems really nice and organic. I would have liked better charging animations for troops (Shogun 2 and Medieval 2 had such awesome charges), but the actual combat seems more organic than in a very long time, I love it, and archers and slingers are deadly, and so are chariots - they even leave trails in the grass and get slowed down in mud, which is awesome. If you didn’t like Warhammer, or if someone didn’t, but like Greek mythological, it’s a whole different space, especially since you never HAVE to use the mythological creatures like the centaurs or harpies to win. I like that the heroes form the mythology are powerful, and the actual mythical super beasts are just really cool. So yes I would recommend it to someone whose never played Total War or Warhammer before :)
@@AndysTake Thank you for your answer, i didnt know what was that XD i would like to play this game, that poison and other type of stuff i like it, but... despite of trying to play it several times, all those downsides killed the game for me :(
@@mkNf-uk8py I get it, mate. I think the campaign is the best thing about this game, battles not so much, but they got better with Mythos. I’m so excited for the next historical total war, I really hope they focus on what made Medieval II so great.
This game has a little bit for everyone... And there in lies the problem.... The saga games supposed to be historical titles only on a smaller scale the the main line games ..... That Failed...
It's people like you giving shill reviews for Free received products that are the problem in the industry, I've seen your scripted AF review of Troy on steam it's so obvious dude... CA knew the majority of people wouldn't have bought this on the Epic game store and made it briefly free to get some "good will" (mainly because they would have gotten a barrel of money from epic and they were reused assets to begin with so it would have cost them next to nothing to make) and still shit out a sub par product, but after watching this i bet you'd still tell people how great blood and gore DLC is as an addon to the game because it's £3. Get some integrity and call it out for what it really is, asset flipped Warhammer units on an asset flipped map from Three kingdoms disguised as something not cut from the base game, the "base game" was %50 of the actual content, Mythos, Ajax and Amazons was the other %50 of the BASE GAME and you buy it all up like idiots these people are scamming you and if you can't see that you deserved to be scammed. I don't even want an Empire 2 or Medieval 3 because CA would try and sell it to me in pieces and try and pass it off as "extra content" Imagine buying a brand new car and having to buy all the Tires, windows, and doors separately just to get the finished product... it's exactly what this trash is, it's a scam, all the fanboys getting upset about the steam reviews disgusts me, Educate yourselves please CA used to be actually good at making Total war games.

A good well made game that doesn't rip you off is guaranteed money... it isn't rocket science you think making a game then cutting out content to sell off later down the line and brand it as newly made content is how games work or should work? do you really?? The industry got lazy because this is how big greedy companies like EA and Activison work, pure scumbags that don't give a shit about people, just their moneys worth a good developer knows this and CA is not a good developer anymore and it shows. Being complacent in this fact is how we got games like Fallout 76. After GTA online came out EVERYBODY wanted their own version of shark cards they want you to pay and pay and pay for less and less and less, CA can't get away with micro transactions in these games and i bet they would if they could so instead they just flip their assets and try and pass it off as something brand new with minimum effort and no innovation. Reuse rebrand separate and inflate prices. Their DLC as you call it, (i call it reused assets) cannot compete with modders on the scale of pure dedication, passion and ideas and they know it so instead they try to rip people off with overpriced sub par garbage because some asshole executive at CA doesn't want his salary cut just a little to improve the quality of the product and somehow doesn't realize being a less money focused company and more focused on the product will make them more money.... if you buy the ''base game'' the game shames you that you haven't paid more after paying full price, you would know this if you had actually had spent money on the game instead of getting everything for free because you are a ''Reviewer'' how do you know i haven't played the game? again i called you out bro and you know it. I gave you valid criticism you chose to go the route of 'i got my feelings hurt you're a troll REEEEEE' you didn't have to reply, you CHOSE to reply. you said ''it’s been a full year with patches and fixes and some DLC, the game was even free on launch, so you literally have no argument.'' and i told you before you replied ''CA knew the majority of people wouldn't have bought this on the Epic game store and made it briefly free to get some "good will" (mainly because they would have gotten a barrel of money from epic and they were reused assets to begin with so it would have cost them next to nothing to make) and still shit out a sub par product'' how is this not a valid point of criticism? they pissed off all their fans for using a shitty exclusive platform and decide to make the base game free for a very shot time, you act like it's been free this whole time with DLC included. it may have been out for a year, but under an exclusivity deal, for a lot of people the game just came out because F*CK EPIC. If i got something (anything) for free because i already had it (I.E a Warhammer asset) reused it in the new game, gave it a cheap reskin that would have taken less than an hour to make, cut it from the original content (the base game) then sell it to the highest exclusivity bidding for a boat load of cash then try and claim ''oh well i gave the game out for free for a short while for free so I'm now IMMUNE to all criticism oh and by the way buy this DLC'' that;s how you scam people dude... it's not a morally acceptable or good business practice to peruse it isn't going to make you liked in the industry by the people who you know.. who actually pay for and play your games, so that is why they pay people like you to write bogus positive reviews on steam, and I've seen dozens of them all saying the same scripted bullshit you spouted. you have 22K Subs, at full price that is about 70k in potential profits give or take. You might see that as ''how business works'' or '' how games are made'' but it isn't.... it was never the industry standard to make you pay more for less, i see that as way of ripping you off trying to fool people then trying to cover you're shit scented tracks of 100 bad things with one good thing (I.E it was free on launch for a small period) it's called deception and deflection dude and people are too stupid to see things for the way they are, that's why we get games like Fifa every single goddamn year where the code for the game is the EXACT same as the last 5 games and people buy it!!! and re buy all the micro transactions IDIOTS they deserved to be scammed. Yes. At 4:55 you said it right. Total War made the first foray into fantasy with Warhammer, and now they're making a second foray into Mythology. This could be the POTENTIAL Age of Mythology Total War - but they must expand to Egypt. EXPAND! CA! EXPAND!
I KNOW, Egypt mythology would be EPIC. Could we perhaps see a campaign expansion with Egypt in it? Probably not but would be awesoooome
You make very good stuff btw, loved all your TTW videos so far, keep it up. :)
Thank you so much, Jonathan :D Troy is amazing, so I’m glad you’re considering checking it out!
Really interested in whag modders can do with this. The battle maps look refreshing coming from warhammer, might have to check it out
Yes! The battle maps are really quite fun, there’s a lot of room for manoeuvring if you’re into that. Very excited to see what the modders can do.
That’s totally fair :)
Loved the review man!
Thank you, Medjay, means a lot! 🙏
@@AndysTake No worries
@@AndysTake If I may ask kindly, could you kindly have a look at my review for Troy and just give me feedback on what I could do better?
@@MedjayofFaiyum I will do that! :)
@@AndysTake thx
*Two months later* and the game is mostly dead. It's just above ToB on steam charts. So, what happened exactly? I think most people who played it for free on Epic had a so-so time with the game but were mostly disappointed. Once it came out on Steam, most people weren't motivated enough to spend so much money on such a seemingly small addition to a game they got for free. (And, they were right.)
There are very few mods for Troy on steam, very little activity in the forums, and pretty much no content creators on youtube are covering the game anymore.
How have the battles been fixed or improved?
Bra review, blir nok å kjøpe det senere i dag.
Tusen takk! Da håper jeg du får det gøy med spillet! :D
God damn at last some love to this game. Ppl hate it so much and is rly not bad, is my child hood dream this game. From where i watched troy movie again and again
This is Age of Mythology 2 and it's frikkin epic. Can't stop playing Mythos
Glad you're enjoying it!
@@AndysTake Thank you for your reply :)
I'm sorry if i was bitter in my comment, but that's just because of frustration... it could have been a great game, the mix fantasy-history is great and i loved the idea.
That Background music at the end sounds beautiful does anyone know the title
It's like this it starts with salt then it had added curry
The idea to lunch the game exclusively on epic was dump.
Yeah… probably paid for the game, but I agree.
Great video, dude.
It's so nice to hear someone actually explain why Troy is a great game. I'm so tired of the "toxic" TW fans who just hate on everything, review bomb things into the ground, and behave like spoiled children online.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for commenting.
wait from where you can own this game for free ?
Man, whats the background music?
Depends on which one you’re referring to, but I cooked this one up myself actually since I loved both versions so much. Thought I’d combine them and extend it. I hope you like it :) ua-cam.com/video/ErmREvzHxoA/v-deo.html
@@AndysTake Thanks mate :)
I really want boat fights
In this time period, I don’t know if it would’ve been fun to play, and the gods know that naval warfare in Rome and Attila were not nearly as fun as the ones in Empire, Napoleon and Shogun. But maybe it could work.
I think the battle maps with the ocean in the background are much more fun. The Attila and Rome 2 sea battles were torture.
4:14 what happened there? Suddenly they all farted?
Hahaha! Yes, they all 💨 No, it was like a poison mist attack by some special agent!
@@AndysTake Thank you for your answer, i didnt know what was that XD
i would like to play this game, that poison and other type of stuff i like it, but... despite of trying to play it several times, all those downsides killed the game for me :(
@@mkNf-uk8py I get it, mate. I think the campaign is the best thing about this game, battles not so much, but they got better with Mythos. I’m so excited for the next historical total war, I really hope they focus on what made Medieval II so great.
god damn it (whips out credit card)
Hah! That’s the spirit
I'm just disappointed that Achilles doesn't look like Achilles 😡
Atlantis dlc or mod any one
That would be something
@@AndysTake minoan civ and myth remake as well as plato as advisor

So to recap: Its Warhammer
It’s actually better because of the historical aspect, in my opinion ;)
It's Historical Warhammer
how did you get the product for free on steam
I’m a game reviewer so I have my contacts ;)
But the question is... Is it good in 2022? xD
EXACTLY :D
:-)
i want to get it so bad but its expensive bcs i am not a rich boi
I'm waiting for age of mythology total war!!!!! please Microsoft and CA do a collaboration....
It would be awesome!!
Wait, so you love Troy but hate Thrones? ……………
yes.
This game has a little bit for everyone... And there in lies the problem.... The saga games supposed to be historical titles only on a smaller scale the the main line games ..... That Failed...
One of the least played games in the series. Right next to thrones.
its the worst total war by far dont get this game. even on legendary its a cakewalk.
Ok, boomer.
@@AndysTake Nothing valid to say? What a child... I bet I'm younger than you 🤣 Shows I've hit right on point. Bruised ego, I think you are so used to people agreeing with you on you're BS you don't know how to deal with it!! but I just called you out.
@@EXtrEME475 You came at me with a bs post having nothing constructive to say. Calling me a shill for stating my opinion, calling a game and expansion you clearly haven’t played “garbage” and a Warhammer clone. Saying I would say something I’ve never claimed about a blood and gore DLC. You have nothing constructive or new to say, nothing that validates a proper response. Now you have to cope by posting emojis, because your words aren’t up to the task to convey what ever little of value you have to say. You clearly have no understanding of how game developers finance their games or how the business works, really feeling the need to talk about the invalidity of “extra content” when this is how games work, it’s been a full year with patches and fixes and some DLC, the game was even free on launch, so you literally have no argument. “I just called you out” brooo so sad, honestly. I made this video the way it is because I loved Troy Mythos. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me or providing valid criticism. But this is just toddler tier BS, exposing you for what you are. Just a troll.
@@AndysTake Okay so because i posted an emoji and you got you're little feelings hurt that said i called you out.. I'm a troll? oh and a toddler? so how is saying "ok boomer" not childish then? Great logic there man xD yes because posting you're opinion on the internet somehow makes the opposing opinion invalid. It's well known and well documented at this point that the industry is overly greedy are you denying this?YOU CAN LIKE THE GAME i never said you couldn't I'll never hate on someone just for liking something but you were clearly sponsored to give the game a positive review tell me I'm wrong?? Hey man if you like ripping people off that's fine but you know i came at you with a valid point it's a fact, this isn't personal opinion. and i mentioned the Blood DLC because you have no problem praising this garbage I NEVER SAID YOU DID PRAISE THE BLOOD DLC just that you'd probably praise more garbage like paying for blood DLC and this isn't even my main point just a side thing it's not even DLC it used to be a standard feature... IT strengthens my point about ripping people off with pointless garbage, you don't seem to have any integrity, Cry about it.
You are clearly emotionally hurt because i criticized something you like... don't come at me saying you posted this video JUST because you liked Troy Mythos because we both know it was more than that dude it's a shill review nothing more you, were told what to say don't lie. i understand fully how business works you sit there and think just because you got a free copy of the game you are now some expert in how games should be made? you cannot expect me to sit here and tell you that pissing off all your fans is a good business model?? instead of you know actually making a good game?
Prove me wrong dude yes I CaLlEd yOu OuT BrOoO.
And for the record IF YOU CAN ACCEPT that I'm not a troll and use your brains capacity to think for a minute without emotion, I loved the Total war games i just want them to be better because i know they can BE better I'm sick of all this crap gamers have to deal with. These companies see you as a cow to be milked stop acting like they are your friends call them out for their actions and call people like you out that defend them constantly and blindly, you can still like something and call it out Jesus dude, i have nothing against you as a human being, just with what you are saying in an obviously paid review i hope you have the sense to realize that even if you don't want to admit it, and again if I'm wrong then prove me wrong dude all you have right now as an ''argument'' is I'm a troll because i used an emoji xD Very sad.
