So it’s been a year and a half since I first got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. In this video I want to share with you some of the personal experience I’ve had after 1.5 years of usage, show you how it has held up from a durability standpoint, and share some insight on whether or not I can recommend this device to those of you considering getting one. My wife got one when they were released. She’s been using it as her main device (other than her phone) ever since. She completed her degree using it, and is currently completing her professional licensing using it.
The thing I see her doing with it a lot is having her textbook open on the left, and Samsung notes open on the right to take notes. That’s something that it doesn’t seem like most other tablets have the space to do.
I have a Tab S7 FE and the trick I use when taking notes is opening Samsung Notes in pop up mode, overlay it on top of the content I’m taking notes on, then adjust the note opacity where the content can easily be seen through it.
It’s especially helpful if I am watching videos that I need to take notes on. I can watch it full screen.
I used mine as well for the Samsung Notes while training at my new job.

Samsung would be discontinue S8 line to force people like you to pay the price that otherones pay for a flagship (S9).
I have an S8 Ultra. I've had it for about 1 yr. It works flawlessly. I don't write code for my job. I basically live in the Microsoft 365 word. I have it plugged into a large monitor for DEX and that's all I need. My wife works for one of the largest banks in the US and her company issued laptop died. Her company's IT dept walked her through downloading their app and she used the S8 for about three days without a hitch. For the life of me I'll never understand why these companies still insist on issuing expensive windows machines.

I’m thinking of getting an S9 or S10 when my 2017 iPad Pro dies (it has a few years at least as they are great quality). I’ve been VERY happy with iPads ever since my first one. However, as I read a LOT of PDFs, I found the iPad pen was terrible for highlighting and circling PDFs.
The weird thing was that: the Apple Pen is great. The iPad is great. But for annotators like me, the combo of the two is bad. I ended up selling the pen on eBay, but was very happy with my iPad. The apps never quite work properly, whether it is the OneDrive app, or PDF apps that I’ve tried.
I tried the S9 yesterday in the Samsung store in London, and it truly is a fantastic device.

I loveee my S8 Ultra. As a teacher, it has replaced my laptop when I have to go to work since I only need a device to present and do minor office work whilst at school. Even when using my laptop for a much complex work, I still use my Tab as 2nd monitor. Second Screen works so well and never fails me. If Microsoft released full featured Office suite for Android, my laptop would become a decoration on my table. However, for now, it is doing everything I expect it to do.
On the other hand, I agree with all your points including the battery but understandable due to the chipset. Really excited and looking forward to the announcement of Tab S9 albeit not buying one until maybe 5 years down the road. With the rise of foldable and recent announcement of Google own tablet, I hope it means more development for Android tablet in the future.

I agree with all your points. I also found myself using the the S8 Ultra more than my actual laptop. One disagreement I have is with your experience with battery life. I use mines for a few hours daily and normally only have to charge every 2-3 days. Sometime I'll watch content for hours and still have 70% battery at the end of the day. Battery life is amazing on this device.

@@oosterwoldefedaisi As a student i definitely recommend the S8 ultra. Cheaper, works just as well for student stuff, and looks just as great. Unless you wanna play demanding games on it or do coding and heavy processing, the S8 ultra is better. The thing ylu need to think about is a cover which can be found for a cheaper price than official samsung covers. It doesnt have IP rating so ve careful with water and other liquids, but go with the s8 ultra. Its amazing as a student workbench from my own experience

This was bought to replace an old Lenovo tablet which was essentially too sluggish to cope with modern websites. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxz4qYZoyAOb_hq_UbaKI6AsZX0FnoFm-U This tablet is fast, has a very clear display with built in optional eye comfort shield, great sound with Dolby Atmos, split screen option and numerous tweaks that I've not yet explored. I've plugged a wireless receiver into the i/o socket to connect a mouse if I need it and a bluetooth keyboard works fine - unlike the Lenevo which somehow would often garble the input. Battery life seems good. In short I'm very pleased with it
I currently have the Ultra 12GB 256GB. It is honestly a fantastic device. If you have a monitor that you can connect it pretty much step in for a PC. There may be a small few things that you can't do but I would say it's 80-90% there. I kind of cheaped out on the keyboard but I love the keyboard option I went with. I went and got a Logitech K780 keyboard which is pretty much a full size keyboard and it has a slot in the back tht will hold the tablet in place. It is great for consuming content. There is very little to hate about it as far as what it can do. As mentioned, there are some things about that are not quite perfect but they are more sacrifices for the form factor of the Ultra. One thing that I've run across over the year plus that I've owned it is that some third party cases can create s pen sensitivity issues. The magnetic (go to sleep) feature to the cases can cause touches to certain spots with the s pen to not easily be recognized. It's not major but if you are not aware of it then it can make you think something is malfunctioning. It is very simply that the tablet is so thin that the case's magnet can interfere. The other issue that I've run across is due to it's size it's not 100% travel friendly. I've taken mine aboard planes several times and when the begin beverage or food service I have to make a choice. It's too big for the holders on the back of the seats and takes up the entire tray table. Generally the choice becomes to put my video or game on pause while I drink my beverage and way for them to pick up the cup or use my phone for that stuff instead. With that said, I would still buy the S8 Ultra in a heartbeat. The only difference being I wanted the 16GB 512GB but when I purchased mine they were seemingly impossible to get a hold of. Still no regrets.

Nice long term use feedback. Personally, I so wanted something like this, but what held me back is that I make worksheets for my students using Google Slides, and I can't find a way to import images as a background in the mobile app, and the only way I've managed to do it is by using the full version of Chrome browser, so I ended up buying a Chromebook so I still use the Android apps I wanted. Other than that this would have been perfect for me. 😊
Going to wait for the S9 Ultra. I've been looking at the S8 for a little while, but I hate when I go and buy something and a month later the next gen comes out. I'm always left sitting there like "damn, could have gotten a better deal." or "damn, that version is way better."

I love mine. Use it mainly in the kitchen when cooking for multi-tasking media consumption and recipes. My kids also love it for doodling.

i bought this early 2022. thought it was great, up until the lack of apps not developed for the OS/screen size, nor they have for pro use. it can def handle plenty of the common day to day tasks though. the size was a little too much when i was trying to just use it as a tablet. but overall, i thought Samsng hit a home run with this device.
I have had mine since day one so the price of the cover was cover by samsung with pre order. Its a daily for me. I couldn't ask for anything better. When I want to media stream or watch a film the screen is so crisp and vibrant working on it with the attached mentioned keyboard makes it effort less. Over all its a solid device

I think Samsung has the best tablet, and I bought the s8 ultra, which is the biggest tablet of all for media and everyday use. I can't wait for the tab s9 ultra to come out and the screen on tab s8 ultra is so good and I wish Samsung will add more screen brightness to the tab s9 series and more features to make it feel like a Laptop and larger battery.

I have a Tab S7+, and it has been my primary device for some time. I gave my laptop to a relative long ago. The Ultra would be a little too large for prolonged handheld use. It's really more of a tabletop device.
I have s4 and it is still smooth and dex is awesone .

My S8 Ultra and my M5 monitor is a Dex monster. I found that official keyboard on open box for $140. But sometimes I use an RGB Mechanical keyboard with a Razr Orochi mouse with my hub. I will not buy another phone or tablet without Dex. The split screen REAL multitasking is absolutely fantastic. I ended up setting up another Dex station with my 5 year old Note 9 and a 15" portable OLED monitor I picked up for $199. Not a touch screen OLED but the color and nits were so close to the Tab 8 Ultra I couldn't pass it over.
I was able to get a renewed (refurbished) Samsung S8 Ultra with 512 gig of memory. With that, it crane with 16 gig RAM, which was something I really wanted. I can always expand the memory with a micro SD card. In order to get 16 gig of RAM on the s9 Ultra, I would have had to get either one or two terabyte models, which would have been much more expensive. I am very pleased with the tablet, even though the S9 has some minor upgrades, such as the adaptive refresh rate and water/dust proof feature.
I agree with everything you said. Spot on! I just got mine a month ago and at first I struggled to find a reason to use it for my work and daily use, and I gave it a go on everything and I have to say I couldn't find a valid reason to see any usage difference between Samsung Dex and normal tablet mode, but then I saw myself having better productivity and no struggles when using the Dex mode on. I use Windows 11 on it through Citrix Workspaces and it works excellent after tweaking the mouse pointer sensitivity and speed. The ONLY 2 things I have against this device is the trackpad and the easily to detach keyboard. I think it needs a reinforced solution just like the surface pro. (I can grab the surface pro hanging from the keyboard cover without detaching, unline this Tab S8 Ultra). My solution was to be careful with the device and also an external mouse works as expected
You do know that this tablet has a touch screen and pen, correct?
Hence there is no reason to EVER use a trackpad.
I managed to get the 16gb version for £749 after a discount from work, tablet trade in (cheap amazon fire tablet brought for £15 on Facebook) and the Samsung cashback offer. I strangely thought the tab would be bigger 😂. But it's just perfect. I haven't used my laptop once since I got it. Covers my daily needs, including editing instagram videos.

Yes the battery life and standby time is not good, other than that, I use it every day hooked up to a 4k monitor using DEX and it does the job. I will upgrade to get better battery life - great tablet overall 👍
One of the big downsides of the TAB S 8 generation is the lack of an adaptive AMOLED screen. This would definetly add more screen on time. I use bixby routines to change the refresh rate when I open youtube or word but still im not really happy with that solution. But so far I like my tab S8+ and use it everyday for universitiy.

I pre ordered this and traded in my previous galaxy tab.I also got the keyboard free,total cost was £557.Still as good as new without any problems.The only moan I have is the face id hardly ever works unlike my ipad pro which works every time.

Hi - I have a Tab S9 ultra on order, and a Samsung book cover. For daily use I like the cover without the keyboard. As I understand things, the s8 Ultra book cover keyboard and the version for the s9 only differ in the camera cut outs on the back. Does this mean that I can attach the keyboard portion of the s8 ultra's book cover keyboard the back of the s9 ultra's book cover (non-keyboard)??

I really like tab s9 ultra but im amateur photographer and normally im using photoshop and lightroom. But i think i cant download adobe photoshop in this tablet :( no any apps for samsung same like photoshop or i didnt find it... Hey , I'm on S7 plus, and still loving it, had to cuange the nib on stylus though, had some old ones3lying from my note4 phone, they stopped giving spares after that..
Never used the normal android mode, too tall for normal use, but dex - that's where the fun and productivity lies.
For media consumption and scrolling i like the ipad's size and tallness better, but movues and productivity and Snote and my Patient notes and PDF' s - can't beat Samsung Tablets.
Will still go on for 2 years and then I'll upgrade to Tab 10ultra then

I have the Tab S8 Plus since release and don't have many complaints. Surely not enough to buy the S9 Plus 😅.
I really appreciate the fast on display fingerprint reader and the ability to have all of my passwords tied to my fingerprint. All of my important stuff is hidden behind the secure folder which requires another layer of authentication. Once I am in the secure folder I can use my fingerprint to access all of my bank accounts, investment acts, bills etc...,. It's fast and reliable.

With a S9 around the corner this S8 8/128 still is solid at a discount in 2023. S6 lite with DeX is my current tab/desktop but a discounted S8 8/128 might take that place and the S6 become my portable device. Btw what game 🎮 was that?

The use case is for creatives. Also very good immersion for movies, anime and videogames.
Tell me about it... I love the keyboard combo that Samsung has BUT it doesn't provide the protection I require.
I think the battery is weak due to SD GEN 1, wish Samsung should have launched it with SD GEN1+. Mostly S9U will come with SD GEN1+/GEN2, battery gonna be excellent. People who buy S8U now has either scarifies 120Hz or 1440P Resolution and Turn On Dark Mode All The Time.
How does it fit on an airplane tray table for media consumption in the air?

I'm a samsung S7+ user for now 3 years. What I think you totally missed is that, while those tablets are great, they need a lot more optimization. I'm talking about them not having properly adjusted apps for tablet. Another thing, having samsung dex (that should make them more computer-like) I found it awkward that for some apps (i.e. the microsoft suite) they don't have the same functionalities as the microsoft/ios version. Great video anyways!😊

Extra pro tip.
Connect your home computer to ethernet and install chrome remote desktop on both devices. Id recommend using a Bluetooth mouse.
It will complete the device.
I have both my PCs set to turn on with AC in the bios, then I got kasa smart switches to turn them on anywhere with voice commands.
I can be 400 miles from my house and still mix in protools, or game 4k HDR10 with Rtx on through the use of moonlight.
Also Morrowind runs great using open microwave!
I certainly will not be shelling out 1900 Australian Dollars for a spec bump. My Tab S8 Ultra is like new after 12 months. A beautiful machine - just what the doctor ordered. My 2020 iPad Pro needs an annual dusting and de-cobwebbing.

Maybe someone can answer this for me. I've never owned a Android tablet. Always had Android phones though. With the S8 & S9 Ultra's in the US being offered with Wi-Fi only... If you're not using public or private Wi-Fi, does it piggy back off of your Galaxy phone?
I use energy modeling software, office 365 and accounting software. Can this table install .msi files and run Microsoft Office and Quickbooks? No to any one of these would be a deal breaker .. which would suck because the display would be awesome for travel too meeting with clients. Pulling out an xps 17 looks so unprofessional imo.
