Great review! I actually seldom comment, but you managed to precisely capture my thoughts and emotions toward this movie, which is why I felt the need to thank you for putting together this video. I just finished the movie and while it didn't move or enchant me, or left as big of an impression as other Ghibli movies, I still felt I had watched something special. The somber tone, at least in comparison to the other, more fantastical stories of the studio, the soft outlines and warm colours, the naturalistic animation and the well chosen motives turn this coming of age story into a well rounded movie. Maybe a little quirky (for lack of a better word) at times, but still very enjoyable. And while I too would have prefered the ending to be a little less crass, it all left a nice and warm afterglow, when the credits finally rolled. I found all of this to be perfectly encapsulated in your review, so kudos again! Keep up the great work!
Nice review! Keep up the good work. I love how you went in depth to the themes of the movie and why it differed from other coming of age movies. Loved his movie. Loved this video
Despite not being too crazy about "grounded in reality" kind of stories, the sole reason i watched this movie was the english dub voice cast. However what I got was an enjoyable movie, even tho the first half the movie was a bit boring for me at first. But the second half got me continue watching, yes the ending just stops, but i can say that a lot of Japanese films, but that's just me. I like this is animated, you don't really this a lot in animation. This past year, I watched this movie twice one with my friends on a discord server, and the other with my parents. I normally watch reviews of films that i like, but i'm quite surprised with this review, giving more background on the late director Yoshifumi Kondo and I like that. Sidenote. My friends and I like to joke about this film's english dub. It's not it's bad, it's still enjoyable in it's own right. Just the small factor about Shizuku and Seiji share the same voice actors who also voiced characters in the Kingdom Hearts videogame series, which it makes it more "Peculiar" to us. The weird part is It didn't ruin the film for us, but made it even better, yeah it's my favorite Ghibli movie, ever.
It's "A-o-i Hi-i-ra-gi." I wanted to like Whisper of the Heart but did not care for the violin-maker's wanting to go to Italy. That took me out of the film somewhat.
3:15 that is my favorite scene and I like the song
