Asylum is the kind of band that many don’t appreciate til years later. They are a well rounded group of musicians. They keep it simple but very profound in many ways.
Oh, I definitely appreciated them at the time. It was one of the most played CDs in my collection, and there was some fine CDs in there. I saw them in concert in 92 at the Roxy with STP. Then later I saw them at San Diego State University OAT (it's called something else now) in '93 with Screaming Trees and Spin Doctors.
I can honestly say I appreciated them then as much as now. But I hear what you're saying. Sadly, they'll never get the attention they so totally deserved.
Soul Asylum helped me through my adolescence. I honestly think I wouldn't of made it without bands like them, Collective Soul, Alice in Chains, Primus, Soundgarden, the list goes on. SeanS IKR! I heard that "Weird Al " song and this song, especially condidering my brother played both that song and, I believe, this one, too. I noticed the similarities in the tunes and it turns out The Night Santa Went Crazy is an original song by "Weird Al" Yankovic, but is also a style parody of Black Gold by Soul Asylum (see Wikipedia).
The opening lines of the night Santa went crazy is also identical to Izzy osbounes mama I’m coming home. I knew about that one-THIS is quite the revelation.

TexasAmericanPatriot "black gold" is a term used for oil. that explains the imagery all over the video of oil puddles as well as why he says "fill up the tank, we'll go for a ride."

Real alt rock for real people....so listen up!
Bullshit!
TexasAmericanPatriot This was a race baiting video. I lived this time in my early twenties. This video hasn't changed it's message since...F Soul Asylum for even making this video. Nice tune, bad message.
TexasAmericanPatriot "black gold" is a term used for oil. that explains the imagery all over the video of oil puddles as well as why he says "fill up the tank, we'll go for a ride."
Texas you’re the only race baiter here
@@johndough6793 yeah, Tex-ass xD
I found you guys through Weird Al, then my mentor and best friend who committed suicide on August 1st 2011 always played your song Leave Without A Trace leading up to his death, I wish I had known what he meant. Still love you guys. RIP Matt Ison 12/16/66-8/1/11 and RIP my sister and dad Bill(7/3/56-5/25/01) and Annie Clapper(11/18/87-8/6/21), we always used to listen to Weird Al's parodies of your songs the most.
My favourite soul asylum tune. And its cool how george wendt turns up
