    I guessing that the owner lives close to the ocean. Salt in the air will eat unprotected metal in a very short time. Doesn't matter if it's aluminum or iron based metal. Even stainless steel that has a low chromium content will rust. Simply using a bike cover won't save the bike from lack of attention by keeping the metal clean and protected with wax, ceramic coating or other types of corrosion protection. Nice job by-the-way. Looks like there was no permanent damage. Cheers! I have a Triumph R3T, going on 10 years. No rust allowed.

    it looks more like the owner put the wet bike under a tarp (like the boat is) and didn't let it air dry.

    What a transformation. Good work matey. I have a Trident 660. Admittedly it has 11k miles but the quality with this brand is below what I believed it to be. Such a shame because the models they produce are fantastic.

    Have the same bike, purchased it last year in Chicago, 8,000 miles on it now, don't know how you store your machines but mine looks brand new regardless of the weather and mileage

    Ohhhmy, i have a rocket too, and the aluminum is embarrasingly fast corroding. Been working on it yesterday, but it needs several polishjobs a year in order to keep it a bit to look at. May i ast wich machines you use for polishing? The front wheel is damatic to get at with my bulky hands... The forementioned polish; is it all you use? I love to see this... By the way: 4 hours? I'v been working a day on it and i'm at half you are, with a bike in a far better shape as your were to start with.

    looks like he had used alkaline degreaser. i got a rocket 3 aswell. never had a bike with any brushed aluminum on it before this one. and after 3 months. i currently have all easy to remove parts in to get poweder coated. will take the less easy to remove parts when winter rolls around. also what did you use to fix up the aluminum? so far i have been trying with autosol but its not really doing the trick. ( nvm i just hit the point in the video where you said what you used :D )

    I rode the 3R and the 3 GT yesterday and the GT felt so good I want to add it with my 2022 Speed Triple. I've ridden in rain a few times with the Speed Triple and haven't seen that kind of deterioration. I was talking myself into the GT but now I'm skeptical although the ride is incredible!😢

    Left outside, under a cover (probably non-breathable) so plenty of condensation. Dorset - within a mile of the coast ?

    Is this bike stored near the sea by any chance? Obviously the salt is very corrosive.
    That does look shocking tbh.

    Treating aluminium with an anti corrosion solution isn't difficult. Having real metal trims and switches comes with a cost in elbow grease. The alternative is using cheaper materials like fake chrome made from plastic. Having real polished aluminium isn't a quality issue, its a luxury.

    I have heard many times Triumphs metal parts quality is poor. Surprising for a premium product.

    • @JP-yc1wp
      @JP-yc1wp Рік тому +2

      You’ve heard wrong. I’ve got a 2011 Thunderbird 1600 which is kept outdoors with a cover and ridden in all kinds of weather, it’s got 40k on it and there’s no corrosion whatsoever. The metal quality is outstanding and will last for many years to come. You can tell by looking at it that this bike has not been looked after aesthetically and is probably used for commuting.

    Simply not good enough. I didn't wash my t120 one time after being caught in the rain and the engine casings had corroded. Really poor material quality imo. Makes me want to go back to plastic

    All that aluminum should have been clear coated. If they put it in some kind of a sand vibrator. It will open micro holes in the aluminum because it's cast aluminum. And then the Mold comes in..

    • @paulsmith1981
      @paulsmith1981 11 місяців тому

      That would make it look like cheap plastic. Polished aluminium has a premium look shiny plastics don't.

    I was expecting this video to be informative, as in what was used to remove the corrosion? Not just what metal polish was used at the end. The hose down you gave it was perhaps some kind of miracle spray! I'm not really convinced that it only took you 4 hours on this job either.

    • @fctrott

      Don’t want to give to many of my secrets away. 😉 And yes believe it or not 4 hours. I do this on a daily basis which I have done for the last 30 plus years so get through them remarkably quick.
