- Are you new to teaching on Zoom? It can seem overwhelming to have to balance so many windows at once, but with a few simple steps you can view your students' video feeds, your PowerPoint presentation (or other screen share content), your notes, and the chat all at the same time!
My biggest frustration with teaching online vs. in person has been my inability to "read the room" while I'm presenting a full screen PowerPoint lesson. This is EXACTLY what I needed in order for my students to see only the slides' content while allowing me to gauge their reactions and tailor my teaching appropriately. This isn't particularly intuitive so THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!
This solves the problem that about 90% of the faculty I work with come up against. Typically we just assign a second host to watch the chat, but these tips are much better. Thank you!
Wow -- I had no idea!! It's so cool that you can see your other PPt slides (and your notes) while the audience can only see ONE of them! Thank you!
You are awesome! Thanks a lot. Waisted time watching 10 videos before finding this one, which is SPOT ON! Exactly What I needed!
omg thanks for this video! highly appreciate it. your students are lucky to have you as such a well spoken, informative teacher!
Thanks for taking the time to share your expertise. I appreciate You! I'm teaching people how to write children's books, with a 35- episode tutorial. The info you shared will help a lot!
Thank you so much! I discovered the "Share part of a screen" when I made my last Zoom tutorial video but this really was a great application for it that I didn't put together. Thanks!
Wow, I have been searching for these exact tips; and they are all in the same video. Thank you very much for sharing!
I'm hosting a class in the near future and I've never used Zoom. Your presentation was very helpful as I have many notes in my PP presentation. Thank You
But its not working when you are cohost right?
This is AMAZING! Thanks for sharing this tip- going to share with my colleagues!
Brilliant TIPS - THANK YOU SO MUCH. Will pass your link onto my peers too. Much appreciated !
This was an excellent presentation, I learned a lot for my first Zoom and PowerPoint. Thank you… 4 yrs ago are you still sharing knowledge?
This is exactly what I have been looking for all along. It has helped me out to get started. Thanks a lot
Thank you so much! You saved my first-time webinar today!
OMG this is exactly what I need. Many thanks to you!
This is one of the most useful videos I've seen on this topic! Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! This is exactly what I was looking for!!
Thank You!!! Been searching for these features and you really helped me. Stay Safe!!
Exactly what I needed. Great instruction, thank you.
This is very helpful! Much appreciated! I've run into a couple problems leaving the full screen PPT to return to my meeting with everyone. This allow more control.
Thank you very much!!! I definitively will use this, because I cannot teach online without seeing the cues and reactions of my audience.
Thank you - Just what I was looking for!
Thank you for this! You have solved my problems. Very much appreciated.
Thanks for the great tips on being able to see different Zoom windows -- participants, chat, and presentation. I have presented in the past and all I could see was my presentation covering the entire screen. It was very unsettling. Now I can present more normally!
Exactly what this newbie host was looking for ... 👍
Thank you so much, this was very helpful!
That was SO helpful, Many thanks - youtube is amazing!
Excellent and I actually understood your presentation! Thanks
Thank you for sharing this. I was struggling for quite some time to find out how can I view chat and other options when I share my screen.
Thank you! This is what I have been looking for for board meetings!
I ❤️ you
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!! Great Tutorial!!!
Good tips on using the "share a portion" option; I hadn't seen that before. I think what's really needed is for PowerPoint to have a feature that lets you be in Presentation Mode and resize the screen, because obviously you can't make use of slide transitions unless it's in presentation mode, which is fine if the deck design is very simple (e.g. very few words/images per slide), but most people have too much on a slide to show all at once.
This is a total gamechanger! Thank you
I said that but then found an even easier way to do the same thing - see this vid ua-cam.com/video/8peVKjmvEBQ/v-deo.htmlm19s
I about pulled my hair out today trying to figure out why the speaker couldn’t see the class and slides weren’t advancing! Going to practice this now!!
Thank you very much for this. Very informative and helpful.
You can share your screen and use the presenter view if you go into the "set up slow" tab and change it to "browsed by an individual."
THAT'S what I was looking for, thank you!! :)
Thank you. Really useful. I saw a video last week which opened my eyes to the 'slideshow / set up slideshow / browsed by individual (window). This allows you to click through a presentation within a window. (So no need for the show part of screen option .. though thank you so much for showing me that!) I will try to find the link to the video if you'd like it.
Thank you! This comment + the video were super helpful.
Helen Myers I would appreciate seeing the video you referenced if you found it. Thanks 💐
Thank you! Exactly what I needed 👍🏼
This is very helpful. I am new at using ZOOM as a platform for my power point presentation.
Thank you for sharing, it was extremely helpful!
Thank you! Great tip!
If my teacher was beautiful like you, I would never miss my online class.
Bloody brilliant!
Thank you very much. This was very useful information!
this was super helpful, thank you!
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing
Another great help, thanks!
Thank you very much! Your video is very useful!
That was good stuff! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for sharing the advanced feature on showing the ppt inside the green border line box that can be resize. Now I can read my notes below the ppt and students can't see them.
SO helpful, exactly the problem for which I needed a solution. Thank you!
So so so helpful!! Thank you
Thank you soooo much for this!
Your UA-cam presentation was awesome, simple with clarity, and very helpful. However, I would not be the primary invitee (the one who would be allowing the students in to the ZOOM class) but I am the teacher (the one who would be facilitating the powerpoint and teaching the class). My question is, how would I be able to do all of what you instructed on this UA-cam presentation, if I am not the person who is inviting the class members in and would all of you instructions apply anyway if I am not the primary invitee? Thank you in advance. - Michael Gurst Sr.
Thanks so much for your help! Sometimes if I start my share with the chat window open and then move to slide show mode, the chat stays and sometimes disappears, but the student cameras also disappear which is annoying so I don't often use slide show mode for that reason. So I have to be careful that when I'm in normal PPT mode, I hide the answer slides with the chat box so the kids can't see, ha ha! Now I don't have to trade off, I can only show them what I want them to see and still have all my other functions open and easy to see everyone and what's going on.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I was disappointed to know that my audience could see my presenter view yesterday when I was showing a PowerPoint. Fortunately, the notes were brief and to some people were helpful, but I didn't intend for them to be showing.
very helpful, gratitude, 🙏
Oh my gosh thank you!!
that was really helpful thank you so much
Thank you for this video, it addresses a point I have been trying to figure out. I have 2 side questions: 1) If I have 2 screens and want to use presenter view in PPT, is it possible to use presenter view and still see the gallery of student cameras? 2) You mentioned that you can see raised hands in participant view, however, I just see thumbnail photos. How do you see the raised hands? As a side issue, when I try to adjust the camera from on to off in participant view, I have found that it does nothing. Thank you for your help.
Very helpful. Thank you.
Wooooow I'll try it in my next zoom class.
Thank uh so much it really help me
very useful, thank you!
Thanks very much for your help> Thank you
Thank you so much!!
THANK YOU!!
Hey Corrin thanks for the helpful video. I did a test run and everything you suggested worked well, but I tried to record it. Problem is that the recording only shows my PowerPoint, but not me. Is there a workaround so that I can also be seen in the recording?
Can you please tell me how you got your Zoom controls to show in your video? This is so cool!
Great very useful !
how did you get two of you on the screen? Your video is going to be very helpful, once I figure that out. You stopped short of telling us when you went to the share the powerpoint presentation. Thank you so much - I've been struggle on trying to figure out how to see my students, check the chat, and present ...I thought dual monitor would work - but I can't figure that out either. Jumping into virtual teaching - I may have it all figured out by the end of the year.
thanks for the video. it seemed really helpful. please tell me how to share ppt and pdf adobe pages together on the screen at the same time?
So helpful!
I wish this will work .. I will try it on tuesday on my class .. if it works in me i'll share this wonderful idea
Thanks so much! Quick question, can your students see each other and your camera when you are sharing your screen using this method? I plan to experiment with this soon. I'm leading a book club for 4th graders and I think they might like to see one another while the PowerPoint takes up the main screen.
HI . thanks so much !!!. I have videos included in my powerpoint. is it best to use a hyperlink to allow to go to you tube or is it better to view via video that I have included on the slide.
I think this method won't show animations in a slide. Powerpoint was recently updated so that you can play the slides in a resizable window, like in Keynote. You wouldn't have your presenter notes this way, though.
This is great! I was having an issue of the students not showing up during my presentation.
Is there a way to keep the powerpoint special effects when using this method?
Big Thank you 🎉
I would like to know if it is possible to have a split screen of me and my power point slides. Reason being is that I have music and videos that will not play unless the "From beginning" function is activated. Is it possible to split that and show me explaining things?
I love this thank you! How do I show myself on camera on top of the shared screen?
Thank you, Madam!
Thank you for a great video. If possible can you do a video using dual monitors? I really like to see the gallery view as large as possible and it seems to give me problems. I am on a MacBook with an external monitor and have been taking advantage go multiple desktops for sharing purposes. Thanks again and also stay safe.
I would also love this. I have two Macbook Air laptops and I can't figure it out. This has been the most clear video of an alternative way of doing it, but think two monitors is ideal.
I like this option however, I usually set up my slides to have delays or click entry for items. I loss that capability with this. Any other thoughts or do I just need to take the customization out? Thanks.
Are you able to do the “portion screen control” for videos?
This is Amazing! Thank you for sharing all of your hard work with us. Question please ... when reading notes how to you set up camera (behind the scenes) so that students can’t see your eyes moving? Thanks!
Great video - thanks! Do the students see the cursor also?
this is really helpful! can you please demonstrate on how to do this with a dual monitor? what budget monitor would you suggest for macbook pro? i tried to use my ipad but it froze and i got into trouble. i had my first zoom class yesterday and i realized there was no way for me to scale presenter view (or is there a way?) just like you i wanted to see my students’ faces, so i struggled a bit. how would i know as well what comes up on the recorded file? will it be the selected portion of the slide plus active speaker face or anything else? i teach dance classes so that is why it is important for me to see myself doing the movements and my students too. thanks
I have an exercise class. What I did was set up a camcorder to my computer. you can switch from web cam on computer, to external camera set up on computer. You may have already figured this out, use multiple cameras. The adapters, extensions, & other connections will come into making this work!!
@@MacCurtisHolisticHealthTalk already figured all of these things in 3 months time. thanks for your help!
Very nice video..could you make something on the best way to go about teaching students how to use Microsoft Word etc using Zoom. Thank you
Ex
actly what I have been looking for. Thanks. BTW what was the extra app which helped resize the windows and what version of MacOS are you using for that please?
bettersnaptool
Any thoughts on PPT with animations? This doesn't work with slides with animations.
You can use Slide Show (presenter view) in a window rather than full screen if you follow these steps. I like to use animations which you lose if you use edit mode:
Click on the Slide Show tab, and then “Set up Show” from the drop down menu, you can choose “Browse by an individual” (window). (The default is presented by a speaker - full screen).
You are my favorite person right now. THANK YOU!!!!
Sorry Rakitia, I don't use google slides so I don't know.
this is great...nice work..Question: as I did the "advanced feature" where I was able to draw that box around just the part of the presentation I wanted my audience to see, it's more blury compared to just using the regular presentation mode....do we know why it's more blury??
It's going to grab what you select and stretch it to fill the screen, so the smaller it is on your monitor, the more scaling it will have to do, and the worse it will look. That's where a dual monitor would be good because you can make it most of the other monitor (plus your notes/pages) and will be closer to the display resolution your students see. Where she scaled it down really tiny at the end, I'm sure it would look terrible on the other end. It's too bad it doesn't show what you're outputting. I think that's why I see presenters often logged in as a participant as well, so they can monitor it. I assume that requires another device though.
Hi there great info! However what app are you using where you're in a little circle?
I was using an IPad mini to view PowerPoint on zoom, I could see only the PowerPoint but could others see me if my video was not muted?
thanks , can we share both our screen and students screen at the same time. I need to know what he is typing and then i go to my screen. i dont want to ask him to stop screen share and go to my window. how about multiple screen sharing at the same time. i want to share power point wiindow and and excel window at the same time e.g.
i love u thank uuuuu
Thanks for explaining how to make the presentation slide visible by sharing the screen. Can I have the students view ME speaking AND the slide simultaneously? Or can they only view the slide, and or me -i.e., do I keep turning sharing on and off if I want them to see me for awhile and then another slide?
Can you advise what happens if your Powerpoint presentation has animation and embedded links? You lose the capability if you are not viewing with Slide Show or Presenter View, correct?
