No one said it was gonna be easy....now comes the real test... does the door fit.....don't be surprised if you have to do a lot of tweakin there too...again...good luck
I was reading through the comments and was like, "yeah... why didn't I test fit the door???" And then the next time I got back into the garage, I saw all of the bracing that is still in place and said, "Oh... right!" LOL! If it doesn't fit, then we'll just have to reshape it!

Just got a 56 handyman wagon , floors and rocker, todo , but all say do rockers first , stabilize during lift to put in floor , less bracing require , but I’m building my sons inheritance, I’m 60 , he’s 36 , walks in computers but could turn a wrench if he has to lol , so we’re building a Friday Saturday , harbour Freight parking lot show and shines , and Roast a bag or to on occasion lol thumbs up , and subcribed . Show me lol
OK... SHOW ME! One of my favorite lines from the movie! I think I did my floor first before the rockers. As Ling as it's all aligned, it doesn't really matter.
Your getting there. Sure hope the door fits ok now.
Oh, I definitely thought about that. I spent so much time goertingbtye bottom to align and I might have to rework that now. Oh well!

Go for it! I only started this channel at the urging of my son who thought it would be worthy. It took almost a year to get enough viewers and watch-hours to monetize it, which I only did to see what that was all about. But what I really get out of it is all the encouragement and positive support from subscribers who are following along. And you don't need any expensive equipment to do it. I shoot everything with my cell phone and use a $100 software to edit the videos. Let me know if you have any questions!

If you're brave enough to cut out a body part and weld in a new one, then it's just a short step to realize that you can use sheet metal to make up most anything that you need. You'll get it done!

Wow that was a lot of work I was getting tired just watching. Seriously it's never ceases to amaze me if you look at something then look at it again you can usually come up with a solid solution. Excellent job or the rocker repairs and replacement.
I honestly thought I'd be able to do both in one day, particularly if they were only attached at the ends. I'm sure that the passenger's side will be much easier now that I know the handful of tricks that it took to get this one in, plus the fact that the rear quarter panel isn't on the car yet. Now I'll know to try to at least test those two together before locking either one in.
I left my door on when replacing the rocker panel to make sure everything was good. I still had to do some tweaking cause the heat from welding will move metal around. Keep up the great work!
I'll probably save all of the body alignment test fitments and adjustments to be done in one shot. That would be to check both doors and the trunk. I'm sure something that was previously right is now wrong. We'll get it fixed!

Very nice work! Your are truly a craftsman! Your spot weld and flange tool don’t throw it away it still works. Somewhere in the manual it says to fill it up with I believe hydraulic fluid and it will work again. If you can put up a video of that as well. Another tip is to get a blow gun or leaf blower and blow out all the sandblasting material out of the top firewall before that gives you trouble with painting and future rust. Once again you do awesome work and I subscribed!
I sure hope you're right about the tool! Maybe there is a hydraulic fluid chamber in there that needs to be topped off. It's worth a shot! And I have been dreading the blast media, fearing it will manage to find its way into my paint and give me a non-skid surface! I'm going to do exactly what you suggest - that's a great tip!

I actually went back to watch this episode to see what you saw! LOL! I am so glad that all that work is in the rearview mirror! I just finished all of the filler work and am block sanding the entire car right now. I forgot just how BAD things were! Thanks for watching!

Great video series. Great work. You sell yourself short as being a jack-of-all-trades. And I bet that after this restoration you will be a master of some. What gauge metal are those new rockers?
Sorry for not responding sooner... The rockers impress me to be 18 gauge, which is what you would want.
@@RestoringChristine1956 Thanks for getting back to me. Mine are .036 which somebody told me was 20 gauge, which is better than 22 and not as good as 18. The rockers on my '47 DeSoto are solid as a rock. I don't know what gauge they used.
I may use the ones I bought as patch panels for what little rust-outs there are. I've been watching welding on You Tube and I think I get the hang of MIG. Woodworking is my thing, but they are somewhat the same with patterns and cutting out and MIG instead of glue. I figure I could butt weld the new rocker material into the old. I haven't looked behind the rocker to see what it looks like on the floor board. I wish I could get all of that rust crud out from behind the rocker. Thanks,

You´re doing a great job. I´ve got a 55 coupe finished (well, never really finished, are they?) and couldn´t (but should have) resist a 55 Nomad. The door bottoms, rockers and lower parts of the qtrs are rotted out. I´m been procrastinating this task for a while now. By no means a metal pro, I don´t want to mess it up beyond return. Just watched both episodes doors/rockers on Christine now - so glad I found them. Also watched the 1st episode. Now I have to see if the time frame worked out, cruisin´in october 22😊Keep the good work up👍//Carl
Spoiler alert: when I learned that the interior was going to take 6 months to come in, I backed the hammer down and just started pacing myself for 2023. Sad reality! Glad you found the channel and are enjoying the content!
looks like your ready to get on the frame soon. hope your gonna upgrade the suspension. nice work on the rockers. you could probably clean and patch the driver one and sell it.
It would be so easy right now to modify that frame and get rid of the leaf springs or change the front A-frame suspension. But, I really don't plan to change it, other than to add power steering, which only involves the gear box and brackets on the motor. I've seen shops at swap meets that have the entire front and rear clip as a kit but never seriously considered it.
@@RestoringChristine1956 ne.w suspension and power brakes would sure make for a nice ride , but it's not my money. Rock auto has all the upgrades.

It's mostly blues based and is all royalty-free on UA-cam. Every song in each video is credited in the video description with a link to the UA-cam music video. Glad you like the music! That's a subtle but major part of each one.
Also I have only one question I see you buy a lot of stuff from Harbor freight like myself was there a reason you didn’t use a spot welder ?
I never really thought about it, to be honest. Guess I could have!
What size wire do use for sheet metal wielding and do let metal cool off between welding
0.023" solid core wire (the smallest available) with a 25/75 Argon-CO2 shielding gas. Sometimes I'll use the air hose to try to cool the metal down in between spots but a lot of time I just roll with it, spreading out the weld spots as I go.

Need door for firmest before welding complete?
I couldn't test-fit the door with the bracing in place, but I should be able to adjust the bottom lip of the door to match the rocker panel.
