  • Join along as we pull an Anniversary Gold 1963 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop from an extended slumber in a pole barn! Since I purchased this car without a drivetrain we'll be swapping a 283 and a Powerglide automatic transmission in it from our 1967 Impala 4 door hardtop. We'll also be updating the wheels, tires, power disc brakes, late model style power steering, aluminum radiator, dual exhaust, fuel tank and complete wiring harness. If you think you can't live without this car, you can own it for $15,000 USD. As always, thanks for watching!

What an amazing find. Those ‘63s are gorgeous.
My nephew who is 21 (I’m 45) was at my house this morning to visit my wife (his aunt, who is recovering from a spine surgery). He is a UA-camr who incidentally makes a better living than I do (I’m not salty about it in the least - his parents were worried this kid would be dead or in jail by now). He fancies himself a car guy, but really he just likes brand new Range Rovers and BMWs. He actually sat down and watched this video with me and the questions he was asking made me wonder if he was kidding. One of the questions was “did they have to make all that by hand back then?” I asked him what he meant, and he said “You know, like with a hammer and an anvil?”
I was like, Jack it was 1963, not 1663. They had manufacturing back then. 😂

Not if it were driven in road salt for many years. I grew up on the Detroit area and even one year of driving thru road salt will do much damage. I'd guess this car was driven in road salt for about 5 years before starting to store it thru the winters.

That's a nice '63. She deserves to be fixed up nice.
In response to your question, "Threw me for a loop" is an off shoot of "Knocked me for a loop" which is, of course, a boxing term. But "threw me for a loop" first appeared in print & comes from what the Oxford English Dictionary terms a "centrifugal railway" (roller coaster). I hope that clears it up.
Well, good luck completing the '63 with your faithful companion giving you a paw.
    Keep up the good work.

Hey Mortske really nice find! The wide ratio on the transmission refers to the percentage of gearing from to the next ie 1-2-3-4 wide ratio has a longer time between gear shifts and close just the opposite which makes the close ratio good for banging gears in drag race type applications helps if choosing between a very high rear gear and getting off the line quickly

Im sure people have been wondering why this car was in the background for such a long time. Well at least you did not get ripped off by buying someone else unfinished project. Usually when something is in pieces all I offer is 2x the scrap value. Have gotten ripped off myself finding a vehicle with boxes of things that are just random hardware for god knows what. So good luck finding the parts if it's a limited edition or rare vehicle. Btw Mojo seems to like the break lathe it sure is a very helpful tool. Still amazed how solid this vehicle is just try to get the fine details sorted out and she be a runner one day.

The engine box in those 60's GM's are so big even if they run a big block they always look empty. Those with 6 in a row really look empty. That's a pretty awesome car. Got it going in a real good direction.

Mortske, the crossed flags on the front fenders mean the car is a 327 engine car. If there were just a "V" badge, the car would have a 283 engine. A 6 cylinder engine would have no badge on the front fenders.

On most any GM power steering setup like this, an intermediate shaft for an old Jeep XJ will go on there, with some possible massaging of the top end of it needed. It has u-joints at both ends, and eliminates any potential slop in that area. Worked like magic on my old Chevy truck.
Summit Racing sells a GM-style shaft already made up with u-joints, but it's about $300 last I checked, while the XJ shaft is usually about $30-50.

That was a great video, I really enjoyed the Wildfire lift section. That is a beautiful car, once in a lifetime. Wouldn't take much to fix the floors w/o replacing them. And it would be worth so much more!Talk to Puddin' ,you're both highly qualified adults who shine at different things. Trade off. But that car rustproofed and painted underneath would go a long way.
