Golf games are awesome, and on the Sega Saturn even better. So I'm watching. But no golf game will ever be better than Neo Turf Masters on Neo Geo. Still play it regularly.
I've been waiting for you to do a round up of these, it needed one. So you praise Virtua Golf saying it has good control and is actually fun to play but you match it up with gameplay of you hitting the SAME TREEE 5 times?????? Great video as usual
Haha! I am so glad someone noticed that. I don't normally laugh at my own videos during editing but there have been two exceptions: the intro to my Pebble Beach Golf Links review and hear me talk about how well Virtual Golf handles while the footage is of me not handling it well at all. haha, still makes me laugh.
Not sure what general consensus is on this one but always liked PGA 96 on 3DO/PS1 personally. Shame it never came to Saturn. It should've really. I agree that Actua Golf is best though. It was on PS1 too IIRC?
I couldn't tell you what PGA 96 was like on the 3DO or PS1, but Actua Golf was definitely on the PS1! I found a video for the gameplay: /watch?v=m6g--8BUhco and it does look a little different but not too radical.
@@CartersRetroReviews Cheers Carter. Also, I "need" that Valora Valley Golf at some point. Or, should I say, my inner-3do-gamer "needs" to play Valora Valley Golf :-P
How many golf games does the playstation have, including Japan, US and Europe? I'd like to see a worst to best comparison of that Not that I'd ever want to play a golf game unless it would like feature Simon Belmont or something.
So these were all the PS1 Golf games I could find: Everybody's Golf / Hot Shots Golf 1 & 2, PGA Tour 96, Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour Golf, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000 & 2001, Actua Golf 1 & 2, PGA Tour 97 & 98, Pro 18 World Tour Golf, Peter Jacobsen's Golden Tee Golf, Putter Golf and CyberTiger. So I can count 14. There might be more and I can't account for the quality but it is definitely more than the Saturn. Pretty sure after this video, I'm all Golfed out. Hah
@@CartersRetroReviews Haha, yeah I understand man. You are the only UA-camr I 'd watch golf game videos of. I think the only golf game I ever played is Neo Turf Masters. I have seen some youtubers imitate your abrupt ending of videos. You are still king. It's so funny. I'm like wtf just happened? Oh yeah that's the Carter I know! haha. If you were a lawyer and I was in trouble I'd let you defend me. You'd be pretty good: "Look judge I know .... and I know ...., but ...."
Dbn, thanks for the kind words. I'd be the first to say that I would make...an EXCELLENT lawyer. I've seen like two episodes of Suits, my Cousin Vinny and a Few Good Men once. I mean, how much more does anyone need to know?
haha Oh wait, people do read these? I felt my reviews are more like podcasts. You just put it on and listen in the background. But to actually notice that means you pay attention which is nice. Makes me feel like the effort is worth it.
@@CartersRetroReviews yeah buddy. Keep up the great work. Your channel is refreshing to say the least. Also love the most recent video. None of us are paying $500 for a game. Look at all the crazy people who did that for Radiant Silvergun which went for $10 on Xbox live. This is why many of us have chip modded our Saturns.
Thanks, HC! Yeah, that is where I got my taste for Radiant Silvergun from! It was one of a few titles that actually sparked my interest in an Xbox 360. FPS' and looter shooters had 0 interest but Guardian Heroes HD, RS, NiGHTS and, at the time, Scott Pilgrim and Afterburner HD were enough for me to find a cheap one second hand.
Okay I was 15 and it wasn't really a "first time", alright? I can't believe you're still shaming me for it after all these years, John. Btw, just rename your channel to Carters Golf World at this rate :P
haha, well you're in luck Teeohh! I only have 5 more Golf videos left! One video on each of the Japanese games - Miracle of Waialae, Jun Classic C.C. & Rope Club and Masters Harukanaru Augusta 3! Then an overview of those 3 games ranked in order than another video of ALL of the Golf games on the Sega Saturn the world over. Once that's done I'll stop making videos only because I can't possibly top that.
@@CartersRetroReviews Oh, there's one video you can make to top it. Once those are all said and done, use the skills you've learned from each of the golf games in the real world on the golf course, full of innuendos and wisecracks, of course.
Actual Golf is excellent! But yeah, it's one of those things with Pebble Beach. I suspect the general consensus would have Virtual Golf down the list further and Pebble Beach or Valora Valley Golf further up list. But Virtual Golf was much better than I expected it to be.
@@CartersRetroReviews Pebble Beach on the Megadrive is the best golf game for me, so it could be that some goodwill from that game spills over onto the Saturn game for me!
haha thanks, Isi! Quick question then, was it you who left that review on a loop? I refuse to believe 937 people wanted to watch someone talk about a golf game on the Sega Saturn for almost 6 minutes. haha
If Actua Golf is the same as VR Golf 97 it's the Worst Golf Game on Saturn, the ball control Sucks, impossible to hit it straight because it has that same swing control where you have to stop pixel perfect on the red line and it moves way too fast. Pebble Beach Golf is way better because it has that Easy Swing Option. Valora Valley Golf is just Pebble Beach Golf either Hacked or just the PAL version of it. If VR Golf 97 swing control speed is challenging that's not good that sucks, it should not be hard to control the accuracy of your swing, controls should not frustrate you. The reason PGA Tour sucks is because it's made by EA Sports, maker's of such turds as The John Madden Football series of games.
Great ball control in your Virtual Golf footage. Really knocked it around that wood.
haha, I know it's not the best example but gosh it was funny. Too good not to include.
Carters Retro Reviews It was beautiful. Definitely the way to go.
Ah, it is fun to look back over these. Nice that you offered some new thoughts on them as well.
I came here for craig staddler
heeeeej 😃god vid & u really have a nice voice (NOT the Simpsons part obviously). asides reviews u really should do a few audio books as well😄
Maybe one day!
Great vid, would love to see the other sports games covered
Thanks, Yiorgo! I am working on that for next year.
