Dear SLX, thank-you for another trip down memory lane. Your hard work in your videos always make me feel like sinking into my most comfy sofa with a cozy blanket always makes me feel good. As usual your narration and presentation is spot on. Long time subscriber, glad to see your subscribers numbers rise as they should. Keep up the great work 👍
"It supports 8 players, but why would you do that to seven other people." Hahahaha! Man, I really miss my Saturn. I love watching your videos to take me back to the good old days.
I'm always happy when classic sports gamesget their due. I don't know why some folks feel like enjoying games and sports are mutually exclusive. Sports games were a cornerstone of my playtime during the '80s and '90s especially. The only reason I've gravitated away from modern sports games is that they tend to be very simulation-focused, and take more time investment than an RPG. I still love to pick up and play a game or brisk season on a classic sports game now and again, whether it's Baseball Stars, NHL '96, Super Baseball Simulator 1.000, NFL 2K... these games were important to so many of us, and there are plenty of people that would gladly dismiss them. Thanks for not shying away from what you actually enjoy!
Agreed wholeheartedly!!! While sports games are nowhere near the level of the Mario’s, Sonic’s, Zelda’s, Final Fantasy’s, Mortal Kombats, etc…I still enjoy playing the retro ones such as the ones you’ve mentioned, NBA Give N Go, NCAA Basketball (SNES), Maddens on Genesis/SNES to PS2/OG XBOX/GameCube, NBA 2K2, NHL 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge, etc.
Fun fact: NHL All-Star Hockey was featured in a scene in Mallrats. Originally, the actor wanted the game to be NHL 94 cuz it’s one of his favourite hockey games and it’s why a Sega Genesis Model 2 is seen in the background. But, the post-production team got in touch with Sega of America and gave them a contract to have gameplay of NHL All-Star Hockey on the Sega Saturn being shown months before it was released in return for a tour. And, the game was changed at the last-minute. The crazy thing is that he never got to be on the tour. So yeah, it’s amazing what a contract can do.
I love these types of videos that take a walk down memory lane of a console's lifespan. Especially your Saturn videos which are probably my favorite on your channel. They have aided me on my journey of Saturn ownership since I started collecting for the system back in November 2021. Keep up the good work, Sega Lord X!
I still play allot of these games. Played WSB II yesterday, wonderful game. It also adds all the stadiums, which the first game doesn't have. Great work as usual Sega Lord.
I had World Series Baseball 2, Daytona USA, and NHL All-Star Hockey. I also had the Saturn Bootleg Sampler that also had demos for the original World Series Baseball and Sega Rally Championship. Btw, I love your Saturn videos. I had one when I was a kid and I forgot how much I loved that system. Lots of good memories from watching your videos.
Love these videos, sir! A couple of ideas for new ones: 1. Sega Sports games on vs. 3rd party: who did it best? 2. Sega Sports on Genesis / Sega CD 3. Sega Sports on Dreamcast Again - great stuff - keep 'em coming!
I LOVE when he SLX reviews a game he really doesn't like. It's HILARIOUS! You need to start a channel where you only review crappy games. I'd subscribe in a heartbeat!
Actually i have (partially) reconsidered my opinion about Sega Touring Carc Championship conversion: the gameplay is the same as the arcade game (which is totally different from a normal racing game, hence the analog controller necessity). Also, regarding the graphics issue: truthfully the game runs at just 20 FPS with various slowdowns, but the distance draw is excellent with almost zero pop-in; also, we are talking about a conversion from latest model 2 board (the C revision, which moved 800.000 polygons for second, Rev. A just 300.000) to a SS 60,000 polygon port, which also contains various extra added from the arcade game, so the game is a solid port overall (again, played with an analog controller).
Man, it's still an ugly game. When it came out there was stuff like Gran Turismo, Need for Speed III, and Rage Racer either already out or mere months away. It looked and ran like something on vastly inferior hardware.
Thanks for the saturn and dreamcast videos. They're great! I grew up with the genesis, but never was able to play the saturn or dreamcast back then. It's fun to learn more about them through your videos. Keep it up!
My foster brother's older brother had a Sega Saturn. So I can relate sorta that it was an adult system on that regard. But then again my friends across the street got one for Christmas which ended up being mine after I traded them a mod chip for PS1 And all the dbz games(many years later) -Rapper Mike
Always great to see another video. The sports videos was great look back to try to distinguish all the titles with similar names for people who don't have the time or inclination to try every single one of them to find out. These videos have been so invaluable to my collecting.
Looking at F-1 Live Information and SEGA Touring Car, I can see the inspiration for F355 Challenge, which is one of my favorite racing games on the Dreamcast. I just got a Saturn not too long ago, so I'll definitely be on the lookout for some of these titles, especially knowing they don't cost too much.
When I had a YT channel about 10 years ago I covered Manx TT saying pretty much the same thing; amazing port, but a huge shame it only had 2 tracks. One of the developers commented on it, and he explained how it was a miracle that the team got it to run, and working on additional courses was out of the question with budget and time constraints
It's kind of ironic how sprite based games were ripped at the time in magazines, yet 25 years later, they have now aged better than much of the fully polygonal content of the time. The sprites on those Baseball games look great still today.
That verbal ass-whoopin you gave NFL '97 13:15 was incredible bro, was not ready for that! "It supports 8 players at once but why would you do that to 7 other people?" LMAO
Daytona USA was so popular that it's success was worldwide, I am from Argentina and I remember tournaments being made over here during the late 90s. I bet it reached many corners of the world
As someone who wants to get a Saturn of his own one day, thanks for covering Sega Sports on the Saturn. This really enlightened my view on getting certain games on the Saturn since I do recall seeing a Saturn with a couple of these games (one of which was NFL '97) in a flea market.
I love rolling up a watching your video's. The saturn was ahead of its time with the video card and ram cards not to mention built in memory. I mostly played world series baseball and space jam as a kid.
Yep, I've owned a Saturn since the Japanese launch. And then I got my Saturn immediately after E3 in 95 in LA. It's got a certain aesthetic to it that I find irresistible and I'm so glad that I bought my large library of Saturn games back when the console was relevant, the prices have gotten insane and I feel sorry for collectors late to the party. But a lot of these dudes were Sony ponies back then and dismissed the Saturn, and now they're paying through the nose for their ignorance.
So cool thank you for the trip down memory lane. I'm hoping for a Dreamcast edition of this content. I loved Sega Sports and it's too bad they will never come back.
Another great video 👍 Some great titles there. World Series Baseball II is still one of my favourite sports titles, and I still play it occasionally. I’ve never owned ‘98 or played it. Need to change that. And I know Pebble Beach Golf might not be a great game per se, but it’s still a very guilty pleasure. Only other game I would have included in the video, is NBA T.E. Loading times aside, it is probably the best home version of it that I’ve played. Cheers
Back in the day, my friend and I spent many hours playing a baseball demo that came with the UK Sega Saturn magazine. No idea if it was World Series Baseball or something else, I really should look it up and buy a copy. We also spent a lot of time with WWS'97, yet neither of us were fans of the sport. It was probably the best / most accessible soccer game since Sensible Soccer on the Amiga, for non-soccer fans.
Me and a friend fired up Sega Worldwide Soccer 97 during a Saturn session last weekend. I have to agree, it still holds up. We had a great time! Die Hard Arcade still commanded the bulk of our time, but we were pleasantly surprised.
I spent so many hours playing NBA Action. Loved that game so much. Back in our day when you wanted Jordan you had to create a look a like haha. #99 Roster Guard!
I legitimately laughed out loud at the way he says "pile of shit" while talking about NFL '97. The vitriol in his voice was such an immediate departure from the congenial tone of every other comment. Sometimes a rarely used little curse word in an equally surprising burst of anger can just be hilarious
if anyone in the 90s went to the arcades and played MANX TT on that HUUUUUUUGE arcade machine with that 3 parts motorcycle that u had to shift ur weight like a real cycle....than i bet u guys remember how fun it was and how much of a sweat ur teenage body had to endure on that beast.....man, best arcade machine ever.
Daytona CCE is a huge improvement to the Saturn original, in my opinion. As soon as you unlock the classic Hornet car, the og gameplay is back and you also have better graphics. Nothing to complain. To me it's theperfect arcade racing game on the Saturn.
This for me personally was where my reticence to the Saturn came from...the complete lack of depth in sports titles. Genesis was the sports system and the SNES was my platform/RPG/adventure option. It was such a let down that PS1 went harder in this genre than Sega did.
As somebody who had Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition, I didn't mind the gameplay. The remixed music from Richard Jacques as also interesting, as well as the inclusion of two songs from Eric Martin of the rock band Mr. Big: "Sons of Angels" (heard in the opening cinematic) and "The American Dream" (heard during the "Replay" for each race or Time Attack). My only complaint was that each car had its own flaw: whether it was acceleration, or steering. It could have helped a lot if it had a section to customize and improve the balance of each vehicle.
yeah, I played the arcade game maybe 10-20 times, then came to CCE version knowing it had graphics upgrade and it always seems like the main version of the game to me.
I remember going to the Epcot Center in 1997 and playing a lot of Saturn Sports titles including an upcoming demo for NBA Action '98. That was the last time I really saw the Saturn in public in my memory
I was such a sports game idiot back then that I missed out on buying tons of great Genesis and Saturn games. Having said that, I’m glad you had decent things to say about the 1st NBA Action. It gets a lot of hate, but I loved it. It’s tons of fun, has great crowd sound, and relentless gameplay. It blew NBA Live 96 on PS out of the water.
I don't think retrogamers today realize just how much sports titles carried the Sega brand back in the early to mid 90's, since theyre usually dismissed as dated shovelware in favor of the usual suspects that you see in most Sega retro collections (which NEVER include any of the sports titles). Yes, Sonic was the flagship game, but that was aimed at kids and came free with a discounted (read: cheaper than the SNES) Genesis that was easy for inner city parents to get for their kids. Bear in mind that the "adult hardcore gamer who plays cartoony games" was not really a thing back then unless you were a social outlier, the vast majority was kids and teens who either rented or traded games with friends, saved up for whatever could have or held out for birthdays or holidays and really wanted the stuff that made them look cool, and what was considered cooler than Sports back then? I recently talked to a guy who worked at Funcoland back in the day, and he stressed to me that 75% of the sales that carried the Sega Genesis were sports games, not platformers (and said that the idea of any Sonic game--even Sonic Xtreme if it had come out and was packed in with the system--singlehandedly selling a $400 brick to families around Christmas would have been absurd even back then) And not one sports game carried the Genesis, it was the entire entourage of them. And I was surprised to learn from him that when the Saturn came around, not ONE person complained to him about the lack of a new Sonic game on the system, but many of his customers were PISSED that they couldn't get Madden '96 on Saturn. (Not helping is that Bernie Stoler's moronic management and complete disdain for the Saturn made it ridiculously difficult to actually get stock for Saturn product on shelves for the handful of people who even came in to buy Saturn games at Funcoland in the first place) It's easy to forget in hindsight that Nintendo pretty much had the kid platformer market covered back then and that the majority of the Sega crowd were teenage sports fans (again, Sonic 1 and 2 were mainly sold as free pack-ins at a loss for Sega. Sonic and the low price got the Genesis' foot in the door, but the sports titles guaranteed they'd stay in the long term). And even when the Dreamcast was designed as a return to form, when Sega gave the bird to EA when the Dreamcast came out in favor of their in-house sports titles, that was pretty much a kiss of death for them in sales. (It wasn't the only thing that sunk the platform, but it definitely didn't help their situation either)
Great video played the track and field game to death with my friend. I think called Summer Heat in Europe. We used to set the front buttons all as run and shoulder button as action. You could smash records like that lol.
Don’t know why sports games have a bad reputation with (some) retro gamers. These games were fun to play then. And are fun to play now. But watching this video, I can’t help but think what a massive upgrade we got with the Dreamcast games.
At the time, I had to decide wich one of these games I wanted to buy: World Wide Soccer 98 or Sega Touring Car. I wanted both but I could only afford one. I decided for World Wide Soccer 98 and trust me people, it was a very wise decision. The European version also has three licensed leagues. Its a great game that even could beat FIFA at the time. I only bought Touring Car years later...and eventually I sold it...
It's nice to see a video that appreciates classic sports titles. Modern sports sims are in a bad place right now, and I find the old games a lot more fun.
Compared to Radical's other games of 1997 which were Power Pigs Of The Dark Age on SNES and Independence Day on the PS1 and Saturn, their NHL game was a blessing in disguise.
Thanks for doing this. I've been eyeing some of those Japanese sports titles for a while now, but non-arcade sports titles are a really underexplored area on the Saturn by UA-camrs etc. I'd definitely be up for more. As an aside, Hang On GP does also support the analog stick on the 3D pad, and I find it to be a good compromise between the twitchy dpad & the wheel. And I'm definitely in the camp that feels the Japanese Circuit Edition of Daytona is the definitive version of the game on Saturn. The tweaks they made to the gameplay there feel better to me than the original.
good video. The Sega Sports games with AM&Rd division shown that Sega Saturn was better than PSX, despite Daytona (a less than 50% complete released game) the rest looks excellent until this days.
how come some of the footage I see from daytona usa doesn't have the checkpoint timer? I own the japanese version of circuit edition and there is no option for me to get rid of the checkpoint timer
Video sections, please man, especially for a compilation. It would really help futureproof those kinds of videos, when in the future someone wants to see your opinion on one particular game.
I keep thinking of the logistics behind a 10 or 12 player game, and it makes me think that it was a rare occurrence. 1 guy has 12 controllers and 2 6-controller adapters? 12 people have Saturns in one friend group, and 2 of them each have an adapter? 11 people bought controllers just to play at a friend’s house occasionally? 12 people fit in one room with a large enough TV for everyone to see? If it ever happened, I’m sure it was great fun-or it caused a lot of arguments against the lower-skilled players.
Keep up the great work 👍
Wow, thank you. I really appreciate your kindness.
This is me too.
100% agree
"It supports 8 players, but why would you do that to seven other people." Hahahaha! Man, I really miss my Saturn. I love watching your videos to take me back to the good old days.
12:57 As soon as Bonds stepped up to the plate I knew it would be a homer

Sega has had such amazing composers through the years. Their sound tracks are so amazing.
The best!!!
World Series baseball 98 was one of the best baseball games i've ever played on any system.
Agreed.
Fun fact: NHL All-Star Hockey was featured in a scene in Mallrats. Originally, the actor wanted the game to be NHL 94 cuz it’s one of his favourite hockey games and it’s why a Sega Genesis Model 2 is seen in the background. Also worth noting that in Kevin Smith's next film, Chasing Amy, they actually are playing NHL 94 in a few scenes.
The Hartford Whalers!
I love these types of videos that take a walk down memory lane of a console's lifespan. Especially your Saturn videos which are probably my favorite on your channel. They have aided me on my journey of Saturn ownership since I started collecting for the system back in November 2021. Keep up the good work, Sega Lord X!
Glad you like them! Thank you.
I still play allot of these games. Played WSB II yesterday, wonderful game. It also adds all the stadiums, which the first game doesn't have. Great work as usual Sega Lord.
Oh the memories! Thank you SegaLordX!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Love these videos, sir! A couple of ideas for new ones:
1. Sega Sports games on vs. 3rd party: who did it best?
2. Sega Sports on Genesis / Sega CD
3. Sega Sports on Dreamcast
Again - great stuff - keep 'em coming!
i rented this console with the hockey game and daytona, most fun i've ever had with video games
I have always loved the Sea Saturn cases. Just wanted to add that. Great video
I LOVE when he SLX reviews a game he really doesn't like. It's HILARIOUS! You need to start a channel where you only review crappy games. I'd subscribe in a heartbeat!
It should be called Kusoge Lord X.
This channel got me wanting to get into Sega collecting.
Good to hear. There are many great games to discover.
If you decide to go for the Saturn, I'd highly recommend getting an SD card loader instead of trying to collect discs.
Love the profile picture
"my hatred of this pile of s*** is well documented' Lmao
Some great memories of kicking butt ! Sports in the 90s were so fun and colorful

Man this is awesome this reminds me of school all week and then Friday heading to the video store to rent games for my Saturn this is awesome.
I had the pleasure of playing quite a few Sega Saturn games back in the day. Loved Sega Sports...
Growing up, I always saw the sega Saturn as a grown up game station. I was a bit envious of kids who had them, but that said I still enjoyed my SNES!
My foster brother's older brother had a Sega Saturn. So I can relate sorta that it was an adult system on that regard. But then again my friends across the street got one for Christmas which ended up being mine after I traded them a mod chip for PS1 And all the dbz games(many years later) -Rapper Mike
Man. Those arcade style sports game titles are sure a real blast to play.
Uh oh, Craig Stadler? I hope Joe doesn’t find out about this…
Always great to see another video. The sports videos was great look back to try to distinguish all the titles with similar names for people who don't have the time or inclination to try every single one of them to find out.
These videos have been so invaluable to my collecting.
I had World Series Baseball on the Saturn and plated it a ton.
One of my favorites.
I got my very very saturn 2 months ago and I am all in.
Its a great system. I envy those just discovering it.
How tf you got my name fam lmaooooooaoaoa
World Series Baseball is still my favorite all time favorite sports game
Love Sega Rally and Daytona so much, shortcomings aside.
They are better on the Dreamcast. I play them in 4k resolution on my xbox :)
And I believe that. By the time that game was released Sega was clearly committed to a new platform.
It is a great looking game. I always think it’s really impressive for the Saturn.
It's kind of ironic how sprite based games were ripped at the time in magazines, yet 25 years later, they have now aged better than much of the fully polygonal content of the time. The sprites on those Baseball games look great still today.

I appreciate you Sega Lord X. Im looking for another sports title for my Saturn
World Series 2 is still one of my favorite sports games of all time.
I never really was a soccer fan but I had worldwide soccer 97 and loved it and played it for hours.
As someone who wants to get a Saturn of his own one day, thanks for covering Sega Sports on the Saturn. This really enlightened my view on getting certain games on the Saturn since I do recall seeing a Saturn with a couple of these games (one of which was NFL '97) in a flea market.

Why why why why Saturn games look so good to me? I’m going insane! I have to have them all

@@Gorilla_Jones dude i’m jealous! How many you have? Give us a total,
Excellent video, you're one of the best new(er) video game youtube channels!
So cool thank you for the trip down memory lane. I'm hoping for a Dreamcast edition of this content. I loved Sega Sports and it's too bad they will never come back.
Another great video 👍

Man these old-school sports games reminds me of the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games franchise. Especially Decathlete.
Me and a friend fired up Sega Worldwide Soccer 97 during a Saturn session last weekend. I have to agree, it still holds up. We had a great time! Die Hard Arcade still commanded the bulk of our time, but we were pleasantly surprised.
Game sack is the reason most of us find Craig stadlers commentary funny
Sega Touring Car Championship is worth it just for the soundtrack lol.
I spent so many hours playing NBA Action. Loved that game so much. Back in our day when you wanted Jordan you had to create a look a like haha. #99 Roster Guard!

Awesome video man! I didn't know there were this many Saturn sega sports titles lol.
Barry Bonds breaks his neck diving head first into the left field wall. And people used to say he was lazy in the outfield.
World Series 98 is still one of my favorite baseball games ever, along with MVP 2003.
I'm one of those weirdos who loves Pebble Beach! The sound effects of that game take me back to being 11 years old,, it's very nostalgic.
Great content and super narration as always
I appreciate that. Thank you.

keeping sega alive :)
I was never interested in sports video games but again you made it watchable. Good job

I started collecting just the sega sports titles for Saturn. Gives me a great arcade experience every time I go to play a game
Great shot, straight down the middle!

yeah, I played the arcade game maybe 10-20 times, then came to CCE version knowing it had graphics upgrade and it always seems like the main version of the game to me.
I wish they added a original arcade soundtrack mode.
The Saturn controller made the games so much better.
Best 2D controller ever made.
I remember going to the Epcot Center in 1997 and playing a lot of Saturn Sports titles including an upcoming demo for NBA Action '98. That was the last time I really saw the Saturn in public in my memory

Another great video! I miss my Saturn.
I gotta say I have sega sports hockey for the genesis and it’s by far the best hockey game for that generation
Great video played the track and field game to death with my friend. I think called Summer Heat in Europe. We used to set the front buttons all as run and shoulder button as action. You could smash records like that lol.
Really great and in depth video, only negative I can think of is the waiting time for Game Sack to show up to make a Staddler comment. :)
Always loved sports games for their casual appeal.
Great video!
Play them this year on MiSTer FPGA, the Ultimate in Retro Gaming Hardware!
Don’t know why sports games have a bad reputation with (some) retro gamers. These games were fun to play then. And are fun to play now. But watching this video, I can’t help but think what a massive upgrade we got with the Dreamcast games.
Because they're unathletic loooooosers
Could you cover the Virtua sports series? I always loved Virtua Striker en Tennis.
"But why would you do that to seven other. People!" ---- classic!
Compared to Radical's other games of 1997 which were Power Pigs Of The Dark Age on SNES and Independence Day on the PS1 and Saturn, their NHL game was a blessing in disguise.
Love the music in this video!
I really enjoy your content. Thank you.
Manx TT does support the Saturn 3D pad with analog controls
Oh man I had to work late as hell tonight and came home to see a new sega lord x
Hell yeah I’ll be up late watching this for sure
Glad you approve. Thanks for watching it.
I can't believe we used to play Daytona USA for hours, just trying to beat each other's times.
13:40. Well that came outta nowhere ! Hahaha
These Sports games hold Great Gaming Memories.
how come some of the footage I see from daytona usa doesn't have the checkpoint timer? I own the japanese version of circuit edition and there is no option for me to get rid of the checkpoint timer
All hail and bow before the great SLX, bow you pitiful heathens.
I think it was Sega's way of trying to get Saturn's into frat houses and dorms all over the world.
I had one 6 player adapter and 6 controllers. A handful of times I got 4-5 player bomberman going but never even 6.
Me: Time to go to bed
SLX Upload: Grab a snack.
I want a MINI SATURN or mini Sega cd
We all do, man.
Zelda clones on SMS and Genesis would be good to see soon!
And Zelda was a clone of the original Hydlide (the PC8801 version, not the NES port).
Have you done a review on the Sega genesis collection on ps4,xbox one? It's on sale on ps4 for $10 and has 50+ games.
No. I've had it in a few videos, though.
