My ultimate favorite golf game goes to, not surprisingly enough, Neo Turf Masters for the Neo Geo. From the 4 selectable courses, to the chill jams of the music, this game continues to invoke nostalgia from me to this day. However on the other side of the coin, I dislike some of Nintendo’s early golf outings namely Mario golf on the 64. I hate the fact the game will purposely LET you mess up an approach shot and sail past the green into OB, this also applies to some of the other offerings in Ninty’s pre-GC library
I had Outlaw Golf 2 on my PS2, and I absolutely loved it too.
I'm sad Neo Turf Masters (1996) didn't make the top 5 list. 😢

Waialae 64.. is one of my favorite golf games.. I dont understand how are you saying that the controls are deceptive.. I was making hole in ones in this game. And the controls are actually smooth, great relaxing music, great visuals. You must really suck at golf if you are struggling in this game.. I list recently re purchased an N64 just to play this game.. Waialae 64 is definitely a 5.5 out of 10.

I played Golf on NES and it was good for all you guys but not for me. I’ll stick with Golf on Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, those are 100 times better.

The oddest multiplayer golf game in our collection is probably The Wacky World of Miniature Golf with Eugene Levy for the CD-i.
Sticking with mini golf, Golf Defied is f2p on Steam and I love it. The 32x Golf game with a celebrity Golf endorsement (name is eluding me..) isn't half bad.
I've either liked or hated Zany Golf, depending on the platform. I can't stand the Genesis version. DOS and Amiga versions aren't bad.
Golf with Friends was a generally positive experience and occasionally has a free weekend.
Checking out Whacky Golf Demo on Steam tonight. I should go through my Steam back catalog of unplayed golf titles. It definitely can't be worse than how going through my unplayed multiplayer FPS games went earlier today.
Hi, I am a collector with 36 consoles and more than 1000 games, the golf games are my absolute favorites, obviously the tastes are personal ... but seriously outlaw golf 2 the best golf game? .... or even one of the best games ever? !!
I have almost every golf game ever made for all systems and the two Outlaw golf are some of the worst ever! pure rubbish! anonymous and average technical realization, washed out colors, hideous playability and physics, music not at all suitable for the context and annoying, I can't even find a point in favor, seriously among the worst golf games ... ever!
Mario golf for gamecube is really excellent but .... the first Mario golf for Nintendo 64 is by far the best of the series, in fact I put it in second place among my favorite golf games.
In first place without the slightest shadow of doubt Ace golf for gamecube, graphically still beautiful, very fluid, with an unbeatable playability and perfect physics, the modes are many and all very enjoyable, but where it really shines is in the audio (strange for a golf game) the voices of the golfers and caddies are of the highest quality and very hilarious, the music is a masterpiece, it changes according to the season (and the courses and the difficulty also change) and they are beautiful ... some even touching.
Despite the cartoon aspect it is a true game of golf without special shots or unreal things, the controls are wonderful, easy to learn but difficult to master perfectly, a masterpiece.
Lots of equipment to unlock allow you to customize the gameplay at absurd levels, and longevity is stellar in single player (also thanks to the ingenious system of increasing the level of the equipment) if you play it with friends it is infinite, absolutely perfect.
If you love golf games get it now and after playing a hundred hours (at least) let me know.
Curiosity: on ps2 his spiritual sequel "Eagle eye golf" was released which is an excellent game but Ace golf remains immensely superior.
In third place without a doubt "Nettou golf" for Dreamcast, slightly more arcade than Ace golf but it is a true masterpiece, crystal-clear realization and stellar playability.

@@KingSaturn025 If you refer to EA games I don't like them, for my taste they are all soulless, boring and repetitive games, in fact one is as good as the other if you really want to get one, rather on psx the best golf game is Everybody's golf, the first (but only the first one) was developed by Camelot before they made that Mario golf masterpiece for the Nintendo 64, however if you prefer the more "serious" golf games on psx I recommend the Actua golf series which in my opinion is still superior to the EA titles
@@DJDanceClassic I don't have a Neo Geo but I played it a lot in the arcade in its day and many times emulated on MAME, so even if not in the original copy let's say I have it, it is undoubtedly a very valid game but it is a pure arcade, with much of an indicator of the time that expires even in the home version for Neo Geo (a dear friend of mine has it) as arcade as far as I'm concerned it cannot be part of the best golf games ever, certainly it is part of the best arcade golf but those that I have mentioned they are all of a very different level both in terms of quality and in longevity
in the settings (on the switch version) one can change the time amount

Games I would add to the best list are World Class Leaderboard, Tiger Woods 12 and MarioGolf Advance.
nick clark I had World Class Leaderboard on c64 disk which was very posh for England as we mostly used tapes. It came with a little dongle you had to put in the cassette port as an anti piracy measure. Fantastic game.
hazy33 I always enjoyed playing World Class Leader board. My favourite version was on the Master System.

Unfortunately, yes. I was not able to get Adam to contribute a more comprehensive countdown after he completed all 72 reviews on the website. I would love to get him back to do a follow-up video.

My favorite golf game, the one I don't have to play! I kid, I'm not into golf. My brother loves it though so I'll have to show him this. I'll also have to get him to be a faithful Defunct games subscriber. I just love to "support what you are doing there".

You left out any of the PS1 PS2 or PS3 Hot Shots Golf games.
No mention of Links 386 or any Links golf, it brought me into golf. Or Leaderboard golf.

The idea was to recap the best and worst golf games Adam had reviewed up to that point (the first two seasons). He reviewed Links 2004 in season 3 and will probably make the list if he decides to do a bigger recap once we've finished up with season 4.

This video was a companion piece to a series of reviews written by Adam Wallace. He posted 18 golf reviews each season over four years, for a total of 72 reviews. This particular video recapped the best and worst games he reviewed in the first two years (36 reviews). He ended up reviewing Hot Shots Golf in a future season, after this video had come out.
Also, speaking of Hot Shots Golf, we talked extensively about it and reviews it received as recently as last week. Just two videos ago.

I haven't played that one, but love the idea of golfing in a fantasy world. I'll have to seek that one out.
Is Pro 18 World Tour Golf the same as Actua Golf 3? Because I think I made a terrible mistake from buying it at my local Cash Converters!

I can't believe you skipped Leaderboard on the C64. I'm not a golf game expert, but that was the first time I'd ever seen a realistic 3D golf game. Next came Tournament Leaderboard with four more courses (still heavily waterlogged) and then Executive Leaderboard, which only came with two courses, but they had trees and sand traps. Then they moved on to World Class Leaderboard, which had 2-3 course disks for it.
I've never played real golf in my life (unless you count mini golf), but I spent a lot of time playing the Leaderboard games.
I also had fun with the games Mini-Putt (Accolade) and Mini Golf (Capcom).
Toys R Us had enough copies of Links piled up by the time they were trying to get rid of all the 16-bit stuff you could have built a wall out of it.
Also Hot Shots Golf on vita is pretty rad.
Thankyou for reminding me about the brilliant Outlaw Golf 2. Went to my collection and pulled it out. Still in mint condition with not a mark on the dvd itself :-)

Scytharia Don't plan on another "Outlaw Golf" (as much as I would want one). Hypnotix, the developers, were bought by EA to make their Arena Football games and just disappeared.

I like the Hot Shot series, very addictive.
Golfamania on the master system was great fun at the time and I’ve played a ton of the tiger woods games on ps2 and 360 but my favourite has gotta be everybody’s golf on PSP such a perfect little game to take out with you and have a quick round.
The best golf game of all time is Dark Cloud 2.
I got a modded OG Xbox and get to played Outlaw Golf 2, while the game is fun I feel like the parting is kinda too hard, you only get 3 preview of where the ball goes and it's really hard to get it right, good thing my Xbox has many cheats that were already in there when I got it, and one of them is for Outlaw Golf 2 which allow me to have infinite previews and tokens, even with all these turns on the game is still pretty challenging but it's a lots more enjoyable this way. And boy that game's intro is so good.
As someone who usually can't stand sports. Golf games are often very fun and excellent for couch competition. Mario Golf on the Gamecube is probably my favorite.

My favourite golf game has to be Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-am for PS2. I know it's not a great game, but the excellent writing shines through for me.
That's a game I reviewed a long time ago (and didn't care much for at the time). I even have the golf-related swag that came with the review copy (ATHF golf balls and tees). I should pull that out one of these days and see if it's betters, worse or about the same as I remember it from all those years ago.
