The S in P/S stands for save memory. You didn't show off the best feature of this all-in-one cart which is that it is recognized as a backup ram cartridge by the Saturn in-game. Boot up a game like Saturn Bomberman and if you have the switch in the P/S position, the game will ask if you want to save to the backup cart or the system ram. The Action Replay flashed with Pseudo Saturn will NOT be read as a backup cart in-game. This is what ultimately makes this a better option than the Action Replay, which has been around for decades.
The fact that Sega allowed direct access to the mobo is just insane to me, even to this day. As a kid, I wasn’t really aware what the port really meant. But now… wow, no company would ever imagine giving end users this kind of flexible options.
If Sega had used that port for Mega Drive backwards compatibility, they would still be in the hardware market today... the main reason people didnt buy the Saturn was no content... if they had backwards compatibility with the MD, that wouldnt have been an issue....
@@Darkfiberke Did the n64 have backwards compatibility? No. Playing old games is not what people wanted back then. Sega failed in hardware for many other reasons, but that is definitely not one of them.

The ACTION Replay 4 in 1 had all of this and didn't need a switch because it automatically used the correct video RAM expansion setting (1Meg or 4Meg) depending on which game was being played. I've had many. Got my first one over twenty years ago. Now, if this also incorporated the ability to play burnt games, something which has been available by reflashing one of those Action Replay carts, it would be something special. EDIT: Apparently this cart does play backups. oops.
He didn't try, but as it booted into Kai the possibility probably was there. The dot one the box was also checked where the AP dot war empty. But I get where you're coming from: the AP in my Saturn (should also be in there for 2 decades now) facilitates the swap trick as well.

Later I did a 50/60 Hz switch (because I'm in a PAL region and have a PAL Saturn) and a full country switch mod so I could play the two Japanese games which came with ROM carts. (KoF 95 and that Ultraman game). If I was starting with Saturn collecting now I'd Do the 50/60 Hz switch and use one of these carts
There's no Saturn cart who auto-detect if the game askes for a 1M or a 4M RAM cart. Those who say have auto-detection is just a full 4M RAM support. Some 1M games works with no problem with 4M cart, but other no. Example I deal in the past was with Metal Slug and Samurai Shodown IV, who shows graphic glitches with whose "auto" cartridges. I also have an old cartridge with a 1M/4M Switch. Put the switch in 1M fix the problem.
The AR only has a single 4MB RAM chip, there is no auto detection and the games that glitch with the 4MB cart still glitch with the AR too. The all in one cart can also be directly saved to in game and is recognized by the Saturn’s OS. The AR you have to boot into and just manually move saves around, can’t save directly to it.

The best combo is a Switchless mod so you can toggle between 50/60Hz as well as the action replay cart that also allows, 8mb save, cheats and region free gaming. Iv also modded my saturn to run backups. 👍
How do you have the 8mb save and the action Replay cart at the same time? I use an old official 4mb memory cart, phantom modchip for region free, 50/60hz switchless mod. But i can't have cheats unless i use action Replay, but then you can't save directly to the cart like you can with the official cartridge

Be sure you buy one with all the functions you want checked red on the back of the cart, and you won’t need any hardware modifications or switches at all! For HDMI, I bought a simple “Saturn HDMI cable/box (needs a bit of extra USB power), but pays correct aspect lively on HDMI TVs!

I've been looking at these on eBay for a while now but haven't pulled the trigger yet. You can also used burned CDs with these carts, right?

The switch is there for compatiblity reasons. Pseudo-Kai loads always when you have the cartridge inserted. you can just leave it on 4 Meg and most games will work. there's only a couple of exceptions

This is pretty cool, I wish this was around when I brought a sega Saturn a couple years back, modchiping the sega Saturn is very expensive and the games were too so I sold it, if I had this I might have kept the Saturn still, this is a much cheaper option that soldering in a modchip, a shame 😕

I do not know which modchip is calling for high prices , I got my phantom mod chip for the Sega Saturn 🪐 a few years ago off of eBay for $38 and I believe I can even see that particular mod chip still going for that price on ebay today. I recall back in the day the mod chips for the Saturn were expensive especially considering the fact that it would all be based on which model Saturn you had particularly. I know the phantoms are cheeper and universal with that being said.
I'm confused about the menu on the back of the box. Action Replay is highlighted in white, so does that mean it doesn't have that functionality? Everything else has a red mark next to it. Thanks!

This video 100% sold me on this cart, but I'm curious how it's held up over the last few months since you got it. It's my first time looking into these Saturn carts and I'm concerned of any possible negatives that might have popped up since then. Compatibility issues, problems with the console after use, etc. I also never used this site for purchasing, but I presume it's reputable?
I also have curiosity about this looking to play Nissan GT-R but only comes on Japanese... I have the pal system.... so I'm curious to know if this has any repercussions or do I just go for the slightly buggy version and go for PlayStation. I would prefer to go for the Sega Saturn version as have steering wheel and it is very responsive... If there is any long lasting after-effects from this has anyone noticed?
@@NotCaseyButKaycee It works great, but unfortunately it isn't properly beveled. In other words, instead of having a rounded edge on the actual board part inside, it's squared off, which can result in damaged hardware if it's inserted and removed too often. So basically I'm leaving it in forever instead of removing it when I'm done to ensure my slot remains undamaged.
@@NotCaseyButKaycee Yeah, no problem! As long as you leave it plugged in, it shouldn't wear the slot out. Just keep in mind you'll still need a battery if you want the internal clock to save after you turn the console off. But personally I don't bother with that anymore.
This is the first time I saw a Saturn booting into anything other than the BIOS without a CD inserted. Now, wouldn't the Saturn be so expensive I probably would have picked it up.

@@MegaManNeo Yeah, getting decent games would be more costly than finding a decent Saturn, but it does depend on what you want and what you find. Not all of the good Saturn games are excessively expensive, and there's a few cases where a japanese copy of a game is more affordable than an english copy (provided that a game has at least those two versions).
i bought the same cartridge for $60 on ebay and it plays burned discs but it does not play Japanese games. what is the problem? whenever i try to boot up a (J) region game it shows a message in japanese text that says: “expansion ram cartridge It is not inserted correctly. Turn off the power. expansion ram cartridge Please try again.”
It would be good to know if the Japanese games play at 50hz or 60hz on the PAL machine and vice versa with PAL games on a Japanese console. You never mentioned it.
From what I have heard these cartridges will allow backup games and games from different regions to boot but they will not do anything to the refresh rate, so pal console will still play at 50hz, basically you would need a 50/60Hz switch on your console.
I've read that Saturn's region is hardwired, so that's why it needs modding to allow PAL machines to run at 60Hz. Otherwise it'll be at 50Hz. Unoptimized PAL games run slower, but if you try them on a NTSC console, they will play at the correct speed.
@@dffagundo late answer but: the 50/60Hz and the region are two independent issues on the Sega Saturn. You can hardmod a pal saturn to play JP/us games, but it will still be in 50 Hz if you don't hardmod the output.
@@marcelplank1708 yeah, you're right. A friend of mine used an AR cart to play NTSC games on his unmodded Saturn. They were slowed down due to 50Hz output, sound was otherwise playing at correct speed. That affected timed events like in Thunder Force V where music was made to match the entirety of some stages before fading to boss. I've only tested messing with region settings through emulation. So seeing how real hardware handles everything was quite the experiment 🙂 I've read feedback regarding how Panzer Dragoon Saga wasn't optimized to PAL, which not only makes it run slower, but also introduces some glitches and unsynchronized audio. Running that same version on a NTSC machine fixes everything.

I’m not going back to Sega Saturn I’m moving on with the PS5 and xbox series X the game pass giving better games that the Sega Saturn never got I say is a better deal it was Japan who got the most best games on the Saturn not all regions you needed the 4mb cartridge to play those games it’s not worth it I prefer the Dreamcast over the Saturn no 4mb cartridges needed
Just arrived today the same 4 in 1 and it's working really great, although you had to be careful to burn the games at low speed. Sometimes seems that the lens don't read it, perhaps it's a problem with my lens, my saturn is old
Open your system, move the lens tray all they way to the top, get a small flat head screwdriver and about 1/8th of a turn clockwise, increases the laser voltage so will have slightly more wear on the lens but it reads discs easier :)
I purchased this but cannot find how to use it as a memory card to save games I have basically all of the games and no way to save them the Saturn has super limited memory
Yeah cartridge is great and all "but".... there are compatibility issues with some saturn models. I have HST-0004 NTSC model and some games won't boot, like Resident evil or Crusader no remorse (as far as i know only issue is with backup CDs original games works fine) . It is not perfect yet.... maybe in the future when Pseudo Saturn Kai will be updated issues will end. Also saturn cartridge slot seems picky, when cart is placed a lil bit off then you can possibly ecounter random console reboots in mid game just like that and etc. Just keep that in mind because it is not a cheap solution. If used only with oryginal games from PAL/NTSC region then it is "probably" flawless product.

I got a Pseudo Saturn Kai reflashed Action Replay. After playing some games which require 1m or 4m, graphical Glitches appear. When using the original 4m Module for example it does not. My question is, do you see graphical glitches on this cardridge after some while? For example Marvel vs. Street Fighter or Samurai Shodown 4.
i wish this is just a memory cartridge btw with 64x (well no not the ugly mushroom sequel of 32x addon btw) I meant if it looks like without rainbows etc but nevermind just wanna save on cartridge since I heard the cmos battery is nonfunctional in the internal ram inside the sega saturn. Long time ago I get one in a store but never worked. Although the 4 in 1 cost around 50 euros is a good solution cause some games in PAL are really expensive
That's what i did on one of my earth's. Switchless 50/60hz, phantom modchip, action Replay for cheats and sometimes saving. Only thing is, i think only a very limited number of games supported AR cart saving, so i have another Saturn with similar mods and an official memory cart as that has much better in game saving support. Not ideal really.

Vraagje.. ik heb Panzer Dragoon Saga backups en deze kaart sinds kort.. CD 1 speelt prima, overige CDs starten ook op. Alleen HOE doe je de disc-swap als je naar de volgende CD moet? Want als ik het klepje open doet en de Saturn terug gaat naar het BIOS scherm, dan komt hij niet meer langs het 4-in-1 card menu en start de volgende CD dus niet.. Weet jij hoe? Dankjewel.

There’s no games on the cart, it just allows you to play burned games and makes your console region free, meaning you can play games from any region. It also includes cheat codes.

That’s definitely a function that is left out with this card. Then you don’t need to do FRAM mod.
Sega Saturn has internal memory. there's about 400 blocks, so depending on what games you play you might only need a 3-in-1 :)
Yes, but it disappears when you replace the battery or it battery dies.
But not as much as the cart, even though they only have 8 MB that is a LOT for Saturn memory.

A japanese console + Satiator + Action Replay (which includes RAM carts + auto-region unlocks) is probably the way to go.

This is pretty cool, I wish this was around when I brought a sega Saturn a couple years back, modchiping the sega Saturn is very expensive and the games were too so I sold it, if I had this I might have kept the Saturn still, this is a much cheaper option that soldering in a modchip, a shame 😕

I do not know which modchip is calling for high prices , I got my phantom mod chip for the Sega Saturn 🪐 a few years ago off of eBay for $38 and I believe I can even see that particular mod chip still going for that price on ebay today. I recall back in the day the mod chips for the Saturn were expensive especially considering the fact that it would all be based on which model Saturn you had particularly. I know the phantoms are cheeper and universal with that being said.

I'm confused about the menu on the back of the box. Action Replay is highlighted in white, so does that mean it doesn't have that functionality? Everything else has a red mark next to it. Thanks!
I think pseudo saturn kai, which is colored in red, does the same job as an action replay.

This video 100% sold me on this cart, but I'm curious how it's held up over the last few months since you got it. It's my first time looking into these Saturn carts and I'm concerned of any possible negatives that might have popped up since then. Compatibility issues, problems with the console after use, etc. I also never used this site for purchasing, but I presume it's reputable?
I also have curiosity about this looking to play Nissan GT-R but only comes on Japanese... I have the pal system.... so I'm curious to know if this has any repercussions or do I just go for the slightly buggy version and go for PlayStation.
I would prefer to go for the Sega Saturn version as have steering wheel and it is very responsive...
If there is any long lasting after-effects from this has anyone noticed?

@@NotCaseyButKaycee It works great, but unfortunately it isn't properly beveled. In other words, instead of having a rounded edge on the actual board part inside, it's squared off, which can result in damaged hardware if it's inserted and removed too often. So basically I'm leaving it in forever instead of removing it when I'm done to ensure my slot remains undamaged.

@@NotCaseyButKaycee Yeah, no problem! As long as you leave it plugged in, it shouldn't wear the slot out. Just keep in mind you'll still need a battery if you want the internal clock to save after you turn the console off. But personally I don't bother with that anymore.

I have the action replay and a phantom modchip. But there I don't need to choose if I need 1m or 4m the card knows it.
This is the first time I saw a Saturn booting into anything other than the BIOS without a CD inserted.
Now, wouldn't the Saturn be so expensive I probably would have picked it up.
Define "Expensive". Many I've seen cost between $60-250

@@MegaManNeo Yeah, getting decent games would be more costly than finding a decent Saturn, but it does depend on what you want and what you find.
Not all of the good Saturn games are excessively expensive, and there's a few cases where a japanese copy of a game is more affordable than an english copy (provided that a game has at least those two versions).

It would be good to know if the Japanese games play at 50hz or 60hz on the PAL machine and vice versa with PAL games on a Japanese console. You never mentioned it.

From what I have heard these cartridges will allow backup games and games from different regions to boot but they will not do anything to the refresh rate, so pal console will still play at 50hz, basically you would need a 50/60Hz switch on your console.
I've read that Saturn's region is hardwired, so that's why it needs modding to allow PAL machines to run at 60Hz. Otherwise it'll be at 50Hz.
Unoptimized PAL games run slower, but if you try them on a NTSC console, they will play at the correct speed.
@@dffagundo late answer but: the 50/60Hz and the region are two independent issues on the Sega Saturn. You can hardmod a pal saturn to play JP/us games, but it will still be in 50 Hz if you don't hardmod the output.
@@marcelplank1708 yeah, you're right. A friend of mine used an AR cart to play NTSC games on his unmodded Saturn.
They were slowed down due to 50Hz output, sound was otherwise playing at correct speed. That affected timed events like in Thunder Force V where music was made to match the entirety of some stages before fading to boss.
I've only tested messing with region settings through emulation. So seeing how real hardware handles everything was quite the experiment 🙂
I've read feedback regarding how Panzer Dragoon Saga wasn't optimized to PAL, which not only makes it run slower, but also introduces some glitches and unsynchronized audio. Running that same version on a NTSC machine fixes everything.

I’m not going back to Sega Saturn I’m moving on with the PS5 and xbox series X the game pass giving better games that the Sega Saturn never got I say is a better deal it was Japan who got the most best games on the Saturn not all regions you needed the 4mb cartridge to play those games it’s not worth it I prefer the Dreamcast over the Saturn no 4mb cartridges needed

Wrong. It is a 3-in-1 cartridge. It is a cheating device, a memory card and a region lock breaker.
Just arrived today the same 4 in 1 and it's working really great, although you had to be careful to burn the games at low speed. Sometimes seems that the lens don't read it, perhaps it's a problem with my lens, my saturn is old
Open your system, move the lens tray all they way to the top, get a small flat head screwdriver and about 1/8th of a turn clockwise, increases the laser voltage so will have slightly more wear on the lens but it reads discs easier :)
My cart is red but does all of these things.

Yeah cartridge is great and all "but".... there are compatibility issues with some saturn models. I have HST-0004 NTSC model and some games won't boot, like Resident evil or Crusader no remorse (as far as i know only issue is with backup CDs original games works fine) . It is not perfect yet.... maybe in the future when Pseudo Saturn Kai will be updated issues will end. Also saturn cartridge slot seems picky, when cart is placed a lil bit off then you can possibly ecounter random console reboots in mid game just like that and etc. Just keep that in mind because it is not a cheap solution. If used only with oryginal games from PAL/NTSC region then it is "probably" flawless product.

I got a Pseudo Saturn Kai reflashed Action Replay. After playing some games which require 1m or 4m, graphical Glitches appear. When using the original 4m Module for example it does not. My question is, do you see graphical glitches on this cardridge after some while? For example Marvel vs. Street Fighter or Samurai Shodown 4.
i wish this is just a memory cartridge btw with 64x (well no not the ugly mushroom sequel of 32x addon btw) I meant if it looks like without rainbows etc but nevermind just wanna save on cartridge since I heard the cmos battery is nonfunctional in the internal ram inside the sega saturn. Could just use an Pro Action Replay 4M Plus and flash it with Pseudo Saturn Kai to have this functionality
That's what i did on one of my earth's. Switchless 50/60hz, phantom modchip, action Replay for cheats and sometimes saving. Only thing is, i think only a very limited number of games supported AR cart saving, so i have another Saturn with similar mods and an official memory cart as that has much better in game saving support. Not ideal really.

Hmmm... if you have a PAL or NTSC-USA Saturn, and try to boot Street Fighter Zero 3, it doesn't work, right? because you have to chose between the 4MB Expansion RAM or the region unlocker... so... it is impossible, right?

Vraagje.. ik heb Panzer Dragoon Saga backups en deze kaart sinds kort.. CD 1 speelt prima, overige CDs starten ook op. Alleen HOE doe je de disc-swap als je naar de volgende CD moet? Want als ik het klepje open doet en de Saturn terug gaat naar het BIOS scherm, dan komt hij niet meer langs het 4-in-1 card menu en start de volgende CD dus niet.. Weet jij hoe? Dankjewel.

There’s no games on the cart, it just allows you to play burned games and makes your console region free, meaning you can play games from any region. It also includes cheat codes.

If you got a Satiator or a MODE you could do that, but that's an additional device.
The setting menu was skipped. It has options for the three available ODE mods Fenrir, Rhea, and Phoebe.
Interesting what options does it give for those with ODE, can this cartridge be used if you have one of these?
