I think you're losing air because you have both air superiority and ground missions in the same air zone which causes your fighters to escort your cas and provide the enemy with full visibility of your smaller fighter force even though they only have 18% detection.
for your airplane replace your heavy machine guns by double cannon (not the ones added in the last dlc that remoove 4 agility per canon) as you will basically double your air attack for almost no losses to your agility, maybe that wasnt you disign at fault at all but just the ennemy having better mission efficiency or detection.
Mechanized isn't a meme. It's just most games are over before you have the tech and industrial base to use them. Honestly the AI has no idea what to do when your army is ugraded to them and falls apart even worse than usual.
26:59 what's wrong with air? it's purely numbers. during my own disastrous playthrough i found out that even if you have the better planes, if enemy has more planes up they will kill more of your planes. do not engage in air combat unless you're at least 1:1 in numbers and then the better stats will get you through. i did not check if terrible planes will still win, but hey, the AI planes are subpar at best anyway
For an air design that gets up 11:1 KDR in all my games is to put cannons on it. I wrote out a whole guide on everything you need but self sealing fuel tanks, drop tanks, and armor plates are GREAT for fighters and keep the engine, cannons, and additional machine guns (if thrust allows it) up to date and you should be golden, for CAS swap out air brakes. The design is expensive BUT the KDR on them is insane
What I usually do with planes is add 1 cannon and rest heavy machine guns and as modules is drop tanks and extra fuel tanks and self sealing fuel tanks and if any space left I put in a light MG turret and always put in the best engine. This works against AI pretty well I'm not sure about MP games however
@bitt3rsteel the way to go with air for the moment is stack up as much air attack as you can. Modern fighter? Cannons II, as many as you can, self sealing fuel tanks and drop tanks. A single jet engine should do. But in general, the solution is the most cannons you can on a single engine. No armour on fighters, you need agility. When I went for the achievement as Ethiopia, I had 12 factories on air and I was keeping the entire allied air force at bay, trading somewhere around 13:1 at a certain point. Also, centralized control, ASAP, when you start the war. This is probably going to change with the news dlc, but for the moment, that's your way. And build radar, they do wonders.
Simple effective fighters: Most modern air frame Highest regualr engine you can afford (You don't need jet engines, make more tanks with the tungsten) 1 2xCannon 2 3 Heavy MG Drop tank 2 armor If you want complete domination, make sure you go left side air doctrine, a light aircraft designer, have static radars, enough planes to see their planes. That's all there really is to it. Having more than your enemy is good for air to air losses too obviously, but not needed. I can fight all of the allies with this design putting up 500-600 vs their 1000+ in france and trade 10 of mine to up to 80 of theirs in some battles.
27:00 your aviation is losing not because of templates, although they should have added cannons instead of machine guns, but this is not so important, mainly they are losing due to the fact that there are many times fewer of them, and at the same time, Soviet aviation managed to gain a lot of experience during the war years and aces, and meanwhile your air wings are at the very minimum level of training, well, plus in that air region you had less controlled land, which also affects the capabilities of aviation, plus if the USSR had already passed the focus on aviation, then it may have had bonuses from national perfume on her. btw still great video, i wish i had this skill
You remember that feeling you got when your friend was being yelled at by their parents while you where visiting them? Yeah, listening to the start of this video gave me that feeling.
To the question, What's wrong with air? Answer: Firstly, even if you have 500 best airplanes, 2000 bad airplanes can overwhelm them numerically. In this case you 200 odd fighters are fighting 1000 comintern planes, that's a ratio of 1:5, not gonna win. Secondly, the attack that your planes can dish out is very minimal. I recommend switching to cannons 2 since you have the weight to do so, and I usually go with 60-70 agility which is more than enough against the AI imo (can be lesser than that but I have never played this long to get you an accurate number) although if you can dish out more attack then you gonna kill more enemy aircrafts. Agility = less of your fighters getting shot down, Attack= more of enemy fighter getting shot down. On a side note I put one self sealing rubber tank in place of an armour plate, contributes to more air defense but I think you have resource constraints so it's fine even if you don't do it. It's AI after all, not MP to min max. Btw if you have less number of fighters, try putting them on interception; they work better that way. Btw great vid!!!
Normally my plane designs are exactly the same thing. But I usually only do one armor and use self-sealing fuel tanks. I usually have no problem getting air superiority with those designs. I never use cannons and only use HMGs for mine as well. Not sure why they were having problems. I can only assume it's because the soviets had so many planes over your few.
I'm not even sure if armor on planes is worth it because you can never have enough defense to negate enemy attack damage, and I'd rather have the agility and speed that armor takes away... not sure how the raw numbers back up my claim though
@@GageEsterly-us7xm I'm sure you've got a point. Something I like about Self-Sealing fuel tanks though is that it doesn't really take away much at all if any agility. The only downside is the extra production cost.
@rezvortex2474 for fighter's I use all the heavy MG that I can fit, best engine, and self sealing tanks. And that's about it, as germany it's a little rough because it devours your rubber supply
the way to always win air no matter the amount of enemy planes is to make your fighters cas and use battlefield support. the bonus to cas damage also applies to its other stats
I kinda wish there was some kind of negotiated peace mechanic. Because once you hit nearly 10 years at war, it feels like both parties would want peace by then.
Hey, I'm no expert of air in hoi4 but whatever design i do usually works like a charm agains the AI so I might be able to give you some tips. Your jet fighter design was good but it lacked some punch, I would've thrown 4 large cannons on there. Also, armor plates are decent for air defence but I usually add self sealing fuel tanks first and then top that off with armor plates (if possible). Might work, might not but this works for me
Ah, your worst Spain game is still better than mine.. I was suprised that someone on earth was possible to get past the civil war! I seriously dont know how many times I have tried it, but I just keep failing. It does makes me wonder if your videos about the civil war are still up to date? Did love the video, keep it up!!
As i know just go for the highest amount of air attack as possible. I know that they dont have any agility or defense but with speed and damage you get almost every airforce down if you can sustain a few amount of planes shot down. When i am in situations like that i usually build up to around 1,5k airplanes(i know, it is alot) and then deploy 1k of airplanes. You have a good amount of stockpile and then start contesting one zone after another
Might not have been a bad idea to go Mobile Warfare Desperate Defense or Mass Assault Human Wave for the extra 5% manpower (also, request garrison support from Italy, they had several million mp
I see games like this and I legitimately wonder how people are able to play this long with games like this where so many easy things are just ignored or not dealt with but when I actually play, strategize, and research and do the right things, the game just fucks me to the point where it's not even a disaster save, it's a failure save.
I”ve sent one of my disaster saves, the only modes I have are some music mods. BTW is literally France against the world, as Napoleon. The planes are kinda trash made kinda almost meta( can”t decibe between the 2) less armor put the armored fuel reserve(forgor the name) put 1-2 canons and one HMG and thats at least my most usefull design.
For jet fighters, just go with 2x cannons as many as possible, best engine, one drop tank, the other +range modul, and two armor plates and you'll shred through everything
I had very lucky Spain game once as the Directory, I joined the ww2 as soon as blasting started and immediately occupied Gibraltar which I guess led to Royal Navy being locked in Mediterranean because it was the easiest landing through La Manche i've ever made
Your problem with air is you are sending rookie air groups vs what are probably at the very least Regular or Seasoned air wings that likely include Aces. So your suffering a -15% penalty on virtually everything and they have anywhere between 10-20% bonus over you in everything
If you’re having trouble with air superiority, you should use the meta fighter design. Meta fighter uses: cannon, HMG, LMG, 1 armor plate, self-sealing tank
Well, credits where it's due - some madman actually decided to stay until 1949(!) with fully non-cored Spain(!!) and, somehow, capped UK. And almost failed the run, but such level of masochism is at least commendable.
I agree on the nukes lol, I had an Italy game where the allied army was encircled in Switzerland and surrounding french states(half of the maginot). I lost my mind trying to break them, I made mountaineers, modern tanks, rockets, cas, and resorted to nuke carpet bombing. I did pretty good in that game, basically had northern Africa on lockdown and France was mine, but yeah... it took so long clearing that massive pocket
in 1952 you would for sure want cannons aswell on your fighter. I have 2 or 3 heavy MGs and 1 or 2 cannons on a jet fighter with 1 armor, 1 drop tank and 1 extra fuel tank, it shits on the AI also you would want to build radar so detection is as high as possible
I don't believe these are real people and real games. As in the fans don't play this bad, they make them this way for content. There is NO WAY someone doesn't have 1939 tech in 1949. You run out of stuff to click on in like 1943. Even sooner depending on what you plan on building. Also going worst doctrine, no production and units what so ever in 1949 and so on and on that anyone watching this channel would do.

Holly : They're all dead. Everybody's dead, Dave.
Lister : Peterson isn't, is he?
Holly : Everybody is dead, Dave.
Lister : Not Chen?
Holly : Gordon Bennett! Yes, Chen, everybody, everybody's dead, Dave!
Lister : Rimmer?
Holly : He's dead, Dave, everybody is dead, everybody is dead, Dave.
Lister : Wait. Are you trying to tell me everybody's dead?
Holly : I wish I'd never let him out in the first place.
I think you're losing air because you have both air superiority and ground missions in the same air zone which causes your fighters to escort your cas and provide the enemy with full visibility of your smaller fighter force even though they only have 18% detection.
How did bro survive the Spanish Civil War but still be able to fail so badly?
22:36 That's Elbe (in German)/Labe (in Czech) River
5:15 我會這樣做,把步兵隊 換成火砲部隊,減少一半的人力並增加戰場寬度外加攻擊能力 >防守上更多有效寬度與作戰能力
for your airplane replace your heavy machine guns by double cannon (not the ones added in the last dlc that remoove 4 agility per canon) as you will basically double your air attack for almost no losses to your agility, maybe that wasnt you disign at fault at all but just the ennemy having better mission efficiency or detection.
this might be the first time i've heard bitt3r talking this angrily
Thank you mr.steel for helping me be better at HOI4 and for the content you make to entertain us. ❤
Glad to help
I have found heavy machine guns, self sealing fuel tanks, and armoured plates to make a pretty well trading plane in single player at least
0:01 nah my anarchist spain was worse
Just found you a day or two ago and already binged a large part of your content
@@darkest_thief haha will do 🫡
You destroyed his wunderwaffle program!
This works against AI pretty well I'm not sure about MP games however
Alternate Title: Belgian man yells about cores and naval invasions.
19: 50 - HoI IV in a nutshell: "It is just a matter of killing everybody." 😂
the problem with the planes is mainly that you are heavily outnumbered.
While no doubt exhausting, this was a great disaster save. Bitt3ersteel is just an absolute wizard with this stuff.
Judging by your profile picture I do not doubt that you absolutely love seeing people absolutely losing their head over stuff, games too apparently.
@@Finnishnat-conservativedot7126 Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité
The balcans been a mess is so cliché that I love it.
Simple effective fighters:
Most modern air frame
Highest regualr engine you can afford (You don't need jet engines, make more tanks with the tungsten)
1 2xCannon 2
3 Heavy MG
Drop tank
2 armor
If you want complete domination, make sure you go left side air doctrine, a light aircraft designer, have static radars, enough planes to see their planes.
I have over 1 thousand hours in hoi4 and i had no idea the consolidate button existed
imagine learning about spain saving all of the axis in ww2, imagine the memes we would make...
You remember that feeling you got when your friend was being yelled at by their parents while you where visiting them? Yeah, listening to the start of this video gave me that feeling.
The Spanish Steiner Offensive in the end lol
@@GageEsterly-us7xm Yeah I tend to trade with Britain and just produce as much as I can before the war
the way to always win air no matter the amount of enemy planes is to make your fighters cas and use battlefield support. the bonus to cas damage also applies to its other stats
If you play as Spain, you can mostly just battle plan and train actually decent troops during the war
You have a good amount of stockpile and then start contesting one zone after another
How to send save disaster?
The planes are kinda trash made kinda almost meta( can”t decibe between the 2) less armor put the armored fuel reserve(forgor the name) put 1-2 canons and one HMG and thats at least my most usefull design.
not being able to core your own country is the most accurate Spanish thing I've ever seen
For jet fighters, just go with 2x cannons as many as possible, best engine, one drop tank, the other +range modul, and two armor plates and you'll shred through everything
My guess is he is just outproduced by USSR, plus they might have radar / anti-air.
I had very lucky Spain game once as the Directory, I joined the ww2 as soon as blasting started and immediately occupied Gibraltar which I guess led to Royal Navy being locked in Mediterranean because it was the easiest landing through La Manche i've ever made
Was wondering when the inevitable Allied AI naval invasion would come and they had quite a sense of timing @13:17
You know it's gonna be a good day when Bitt3rsteels music starts playing.
"I admit i threw millions of lives away... but i had some fun with mechanized" fun is more important 👍
This channel always makes me want to play Hoi4.
Damn you channel! 😭
Poor bitt3r almost every time he has to manually rename the divisions to chanel members 😂
This was a great disaster save. Loved it.
Your problem with air is you are sending rookie air groups vs what are probably at the very least Regular or Seasoned air wings that likely include Aces. So your suffering a -15% penalty on virtually everything and they have anywhere between 10-20% bonus over you in everything
Germany: loses to the Soviet Union and gets saved by spain
Also Germany: yeah I deserve all of western USSR
If you’re having trouble with air superiority, you should use the meta fighter design.
Meta fighter uses: cannon, HMG, LMG, 1 armor plate, self-sealing tank
Is it just me?! Bittersteel never sounded THIS pissed...
Well, credits where it's due - some madman actually decided to stay until 1949(!) with fully non-cored Spain(!!) and, somehow, capped UK.
And almost failed the run, but such level of masochism is at least commendable.
22:37 the river is called Elbe in german or
Labe in Czech
"I am NEVER playing a sPain this TERRIBLE again!"
Casually saves the axis*
'fake Italy' 😂😂
I think whoever sent this was trying to get the No Country for Men Achievement.
I love the way you had like 25% war contribution...
