I’m all about better eco friendly weight. Lead is lead… and tungsten… a bit high. I’ve used steel, brass, and even polished stones for weight. It’s about what’s best for you . However, many states are turning to lead free only lures. So you may not even be able to find lead in a state or county near you if they ban it.
I do a lot of drift fishing in rivers and use pieces of coat hanger wire. It doesn't get caught nearly as easy between the rocks and if it breaks off I lost no money.
Prob with Tungsten is it's melting point is about 6,000 degrees F. Most reserves come from China and they are one of the only places that can heat it that high to melt. Expensive process. Totally unnecessary in fishing except punching IMO. I use old steel nuts for drop shot weights sometimes LOL.
I use both because of price, but slowly leaning to using more tungsten. Thanks for sharing this!

Saw a company making jigs with bismuth/tin-wonder what Ethan is putting in the workhorse jigs-pretty sure they are mostly lead free

Great tip .definitely going to put that to use👍
Do the density calculation. W is not that much smaller volumn.

Ill never buy tungsten dropshot weights again lose way to many of those things
Does a tungsten weight have drastic differences from a lead weight in terms of how heavy it is? Like is a 1 Oz tungsten heavier than a 1 Oz lead?
Not heavier, but more compact and sensitive
@@aaanglers ahh I see, thanks for the reply. I appreciate it
LOL
No choice in the state of New York. Lead weights have been banned for many years.
Can use them just can't buy them in local retail stores
turn that exposure down brother
Can’t, he has reflective flesh

Another overlooked reason: kids.
Do you really want a child to be handling lead?
