Thanks for the tips Matt. I'm cheap when it comes to dropshot weights. I'm stocked up on heavy lead cylinders. I will cut the cylinders with a pair of cutters to get the preferred weight I want.
I will also bend them and smash the bottom end with pliers ( envision a Lindy rig) to help prevent getting snagged in rock.

Thanks for those tips, not many pros would tell us to use lead when their is so much profit to be made with tungsten, you Sir are a trust worthy man and I thank you for that. I know for sure I can trust your judgement, Thanks Matt!

People are telling others to use tungsten/steel/brass because lead is poisonous to the environment and the animals within it, including us. if you don't understand that then please go and educate yourself.

Good tip. Always amazes me after a day of drop shot fishing how many times small perch, gobies and blue gill grab the weight well enough to leave teeth marks plus you can feel them pecking at the weight..... Ahhhhh the irony in that. An entity not designed to catch fish but still motivates them to strike at it.... lol. Always appreciate your vids and tips, thanks for the vid.

I have always just tied a small overhand knot below the clip on weight to prevent it from slipping off. Some cheaper dropshot weights (BPS) won't stay on lighter line so I just tie them on. I'll have to remember to open up that clip. Swagger Tackle, my fav tungsten, has round line ties available. Really nice stuff.

Great tip on the line tie...going to give it a try. Another way to avoid having the fish shake the weight is to catch smaller fish!
Now to the basement to machine out my mold and try the teardrop
You keep adding to my list of things to try...Thanks again Matt

Hollow pencil lead that guys use for float fishing works awesome for drop shot weights. You can cut off what ever size you want and it's a nice slim cylinder shape.

I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

I like the tip to open up the line tie, but I have been putting an overhand knot in the end of the line before sliding it up the standard line tie and don't have a problem losing weights on fish.

I have begun using lead tear drop sinkers to save some money and get the benefits of the stlye plus lead is larger for the same weights as tungsten. Nice tip on opening the loop on the top to save more from coming off. I had been using the older tear drop models that you had to tie directly to the line.

In match fishing people use a weight with cork glued on top for muddy bottom. This will give also a much slower falling rate that generates bites on the sink.

We can’t legally use lead in New Hampshire and Maine because of the lead sickness that the loons have been experiencing from lead fishing tackle. May be a good idea to have people check their state laws and suck it up for tungsten or tin or steel because those are options for weights here too. Just some thoughts. Thanks for your content.

The purpose of the pinched point is to cinch your weight onto the line rather than tie it. Saves line and retying and I've actually lost way less weights just cinching them on rather than tying.

Touched a great subject forced my self to use one the casting method outfished my Shaky head two to one ,
It's good that the different styles of weights are in topic .
Matt would you still use the small barrel swivel before the hook when casting and dragging back let's say in between 5 and 20 or 30 feet of water?
Also what's a good style weight for brush piles?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 роки тому +1

I still use the small barrel swivel while casting and when fishing brush piles the long cylinder shape is the best. I try to use as light as possible and start with a 3/16 oz

I love me some dropshot action, thanks for the tip, I think you might have covered it already but sometimes when fishing my dropshot I get leader twist after landing a fish, have you covered how or why that happens and if not would you mind throwing some suggestions out on how to correct that or helpful ways to keep that from happening please, thanks Matt !!

    • @MattStefanFishing

You can use a tiny barrel swivel above your bait about 2ft or use one of the specialized drop shot hooks that swing freely

    • @sonnygreen9698

Ya better have plenty for the SLR! Several BTP guys were complaining about losing weights.... Not sure why they weren't tying them....had to chuckle when JT did a stutter/stammer, saying the guys were " generically" saying lead, but all were actually using tungsten! ....yea right JT!

i really don't understand these quick release depth adjustment sinkers, how does it secure a tag end like that without the line pulling off and losing the sinker if it snags on the slightest thing even don't understand how its holding it, is it juts squeezing the line? how the heck does it not slip out while casting even??

  • @ARCSTREAMS

so that means you now not only lost the quick release and depth adjustment purpose of this sinker but you will have to tie a knot to secure them to the line,, anyways why bother with this when you can simply get the same sinkers that come with an open loop to tie line to?
