I fully endorse the safety vest idea. A few years ago, I started wearing those neon yellow safety jackets with the reflective silver stripes (like the ones on your vest) any time I'm shooting in a "sensitive" area. Works like a charm! Everyone assumes I'm with the gas company or I'm a land surveyor, etc. Cops drive by and wave. Its the perfect disguise!
@@nickcarverphoto I dont. Being that I know all the police, am well versed in the law and frankly everyone here knows me cause I live in a small town where my family has lived since the late 1800's. Perks of living in small towns.
Watched this video like the 20th time already. It’s not only solid photography, it also works like a lava lamp on me. 😄 And I have to say, the first scene with the motel is growing on me. By now it’s my second Favorit shot of the series. 👍
I was watching this with my wife...now usually she is not at all interested in photography related YT videos...& I switch to something else we both can enjoy when she's around ..But, she saw this video without a word & actually enjoyed it... BTW, we both agree enjoying a plain simple donut is a sign of maturity.. :-)
Ah, there’s nothing better on youtube than a Nick Carver On Location video and it’s nice to see that tree in photo 4, it’s a native from here and must have travelled half way across the world to get there and live happily for 150 years - amazing.
The Donut shop is the standout for me. I prefer panoramics that leave some headspace over the tallest objects in the frame. And the cashier is the icing on the cake. Awesome!
Stunning video and amazing photos. I only thought that the BBC could produce something as wonderful as this. But this is even a lot better. This is so beautiful and enjoyable. Thanks a lot for this great art. Rafael, the Netherlands
Another amazing video. It’s hard work keeping the viewer engaged for 23 minutes, but you manage to do so every time all while teaching valuable lessons about your craft. Great images. The tree was my favorite. Cheers!
I find the most exciting part of your videos (for me) is the compositions that you come up with and that they are images that we can all find if you just take the time to look. Stay safe.
I have no idea why I love these images so much.. they’re only buildings right, but the mood is superb. We don’t get as much sun faded look on the buildings in Scotland .. but you’ve inspired me to try get some pictures of some old retail builds.. so thanks and a tip of the hat to you. Cheers and thanks for the videos. 👍
You know, that orange vest is a brilliant, absolutely brilliant idea! You're actually more invisible and far less likely to draw any kind of attention at all. You're just a city worker going about doing what needs to be done for the general public. Cool!
Talk about scratching the photographic itch -- this video of yours was especially satisfying to watch. Those compositions really tickled the optic nerves. Thanks for continuing this series during these times; it is top-tier quality. Suddenly I want a doughnut...?
Perfection once again Nick, not just in the photography but your videos. As an Aussie I was surprised and delighted to see one of our native trees featured. They are such an amazing and magnificent tree. 👏👍
I learned just recently they come from Australia. Between that and the eucalyptus (of which we have many here), you’ve supplied us with some damn beautiful trees.
I was saving up a new Nick Carver on location video as a reward to myself for processing wedding photos I didn't wanna do, and oh boy what a reward. You're a pure genius for high vis
Nick I’m enjoying your videos to the max. They are intuitive and full of useful and relevant information, the way you present yourself to the audience and your sense of humor makes it that much pleasant. Thank you. Great job Nick.
13:43 Dressed like a construction worker, taking to a camera, and getting ready to shoot a junkyard. What has my life become? Love that early morning lament. Oh the sacrifices we make for our photography. And your statement about missed opportunities is SO true. Stay safe Nick.
Nick, I shoot high end landscape architecture work and the orange vest trick is a real winner. Amazing how little attention I get when wearing it. Keep shooting brother.
Superb images!! I’ve been studying street photographers who used colour film and colour slide film, back in the 50’s when colour was not popular. The scenes back then would seem ordinary at the time, but that’s not the point. As the years and decades rolled by and the streets and buildings changed, these photographs became more and more important and today they are precious and have catapulted the photographer from obscurity to fame. The photographs you take will, I have no doubt, make you famous in the art world in decades from now. In fact, the scenes of modern life I take today will date very quickly as time goes by and become more relevant in the future. There will be photographers not born yet, who will reference Nick Carver’s work as revolutionary at the time. Mark my words, that day will come and you will have made a dent in the world of photography. That high vis jacket was a master stroke. I knew you’d get a donut!!
Amazing video Nick. I love all your video's but this one in particular was just pure photographic indulgence. The Junkyard and tree images are simply beautiful. Keep up the excellent content!
I always enjoy your videos immensely. Relaxing and motivating at the same time. I left Orange County in March 2020 and I regret not shooting that Motel because it was always on my list because I lived near 55 and Chapman. Look forward to more videos from you.
I like the city of Orange also it reminds me of a different time in small town America . I especially like to photograph the plaza downtown. I recently did a photo walk of Chapman University on the first weekend of lockdown lots of interesting things to photograph around campus.
I just adore trees. I am so jealous of the people living in the house behind that beauty. That photograph is splendid in so many levels. A tree transcending from another era, from people that perhaps their own lineage have forgotten about them and in a neighbourhood that looks modern. Almost a tear-jerker. I did not realise how much I craved for the on location video until I saw the title. Thanks Nick. I might order that junkyard photo. Such a fine composition
I think the house is for clergy for the church next door, but I’m not sure. Whoever gets to call that place home, they sure are lucky to have that gorgeous giant out their front door.
Man, i really love your Work. Videos and Photographs of course. You are truly inspiring. I am not as deep into Photography as you, but i enjoy every Minute of your well made Movies.
Hi Nick. I came across your channel a few months ago (laundromat shoot). I came back to it a few days ago now that I am discovering film photography "thanks" to the lockdown here in France. I must say I really love your videos, slow-paced, full of mood, not gear or technique-oriented (which is becoming rare these days) and resulting in typically the kind of images I LOVE!! Capturing simple everyday beauty with so much talent!!! Jaw-dropping videos and pictures!!!
Beautiful, that last shot of the tree STUNNING!
Maximilian Kilworth thank you!
23 mins of shear class thanks Nick . The donut shop image was a favourite.
I love his humour, to me it’s like a cross between Dom DeLuise and Bill Murray which is no bad thing

Hahah. Lo-fi hip hop beats. That’s the term I’ve been looking for to describe that Casey Neistat video editing style. Perfect.
Thanks a lot, man. I make an effort to not mimic that trendy style. I’m glad to hear it’s appreciated.

Thank you, my man, but I think the construction vest thing makes me the dumbest photography personality on UA-cam. Haha

Haha! Love it. Thank you.
In my opinion Nick is the best photo channel available today, refreshing to see someone that knows what he's doing while being entertaining.
I didn't know what to expect with the tree shot, but I was blown away! Absolutely loved the final result. Def my favorite of the 4 subjects.
Thank you!
Your 150 year old tree shot was excellent 👍
That tree shot is amazing! Beautiful!
Thank you!
that tree is always nostalgic whenever i drive past it. you captured it beautifully!
Thank you!
That donut shop photo was on par with the liquor shop! Great job Nick!
Thank you!
I would still keep both versions of the tree.
Just for the contrast between it.
Same picture, different time.
Cannot get enough of this serie
Yeah I feel ya. I like having multiple versions of the same image. Interesting to see it in changing light.
Nick, I really enjoyed going on this shoot with you. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
The safety vest was an excellent idea...a safety vest, hard hat, and a clipboard can get you almost anywhere...unquestioned!
Almost anywhere can be accessed with a Hi Vis Vest, Clipboard, Hardhat, and a ladder. No one questions someone carrying a ladder somewhere.
You forgot one key ingredient. Confidence.
As Adam Carolla says, if you wear a tool belt and walk with enough purpose, you can get anywhere.
Thanks Nick - I too have always loved passing that giant fig tree. Great image!
Thank you!
so... here i am in the YT comments, finally ready to start watching with some strong coffee in the morning.
22:29 i do like the tones of the right buildings in the daylight shot! man oh man, i will be checking out my local relics pretty soon!
Nice! Nothing better than exploring your own town for new photo ops.
I wish I could go back in time and see that photo of the tree for the first time again... absolutely amazing!
