Crazy Trick to get great tone from a Zoom G1Xon with patch settings

- Follow up to my first G1Xon video. I had a ton of questions for people looking to get the exact settings. Now that I have another one to play with I can post the sounds and settings together. This one uses the Marshall Crunch amp with matching cabinet maxed into a clean Fender Deluxe through a Marshal 1959 4x12 cab. Playing with cabinet settings on both amps makes a HUGE difference as also does adjusting amp output type on the 3rd tab of the amp page.
Thanks Bill, I've only had my G!on for 2 days and your video was so easy to follow I had the settings exact within minutes. Combined with my Epiphone ES335, getting really good sound.
Hi Bill. What I'm hearing is that you prefer a sound with a higher gain and more treble. I'm pretty sure you can achieve an even better tone by choosing a different amp in the first place or modifying the EQ and adding the Tube Screamer simulation for extra gain and a more ""tubey" sound. The combo amp sim + Tube Screamer usually works pretty well. You can even try to put the pedal after the amp.

@@LanternOfLight7 Hi. Sorry but I haven't used the G1XOn for a long time. I have a Boss GT1 that I prefer. Anyway, my advice was a general idea. If I remember well, I think the trick that was the most interesting to get an edgy crunch/distortion instead of a muddy one was to put the overdrive pedal after the amp sim.

Zooms are wonderful...i have very heavy solo sounds with my g2 and fine eq them with a Behringer vtonedi or a Behr od300, so having a good heavy sound dont have to cost so much!!!thanks for your good playin!!!

i've used zoom g1xn and g1xon for years now...sounds awesome and easy to use and set...compact yet powerful...i've experimented on the sound...got couples of my video on my channel of which i'm using my g1xon playing highway star...unfortunately the video is not in high quality...if you dont mind checking out my page...
Great sound, but for some reason I am not able to replicate it on my device. I have checked the settings a couple of times, but they generate a more clean, almost acoustic sound. Nice though.

I'm interested in what you say about powering the unit via USB. I had bought a G1XON before watching this video and one of the reasons was because of the possibility of using the convenience of USB power. I've contacted Zoom and they came back with the OK to power the unit this way. It's been a while now since you posted this video, but I'd welcome your reasoning as to why you think you fried a unit via USB power.
Do you know how to have the pedal control the volume on certain patches....I'm wanting to get ambient sounds on patch H8. So how would I get the pedal to control the volume? Thanks

What is the name of the power supply and how does it function? It is like a rechargable battery?
It's just a regular "wall wart" power supply. There's a round connector on the back left of the unit where you plug it in. Zoom part number is AD-16A/D and I'm sure there are quite a few Zoom pedals it works with.

hi guys, i m using this zoom g1xon with a Boss ds 1 ,can any one tell me how to get tone like Steve vai in this unit, I know he uses sustainiac,axefx,carvin etc but still want a replica of his tone in this unit,
A good start would be getting a Steve Vai Bad Horsie II wah. I have one and LOVE !!! it.

I know this post is old but... the USB is not for charging but,updating your firmware.
I'm pretty sure they power up using the USB without batteries.

Why is bad to conect it with the usb?
I used a quality cell phone charger for the USB to power the first G1XOn and it died of electrical problems. First the screen went out and then it just died. The Zoom power supply was pretty cheap so I recommend going that route to be battery free.

im using a 5v cable with a 5v power bank and its pretty good
Bill, the usb power killed your first unit? What if you plug it into the usb port on a laptop?
Late answer... I am powering my g1xon with USB power , mostly by power banks, for 9 months daily several hours without a problem. I guess his first device had other problems or was just a faulty device.

Does the new G1x4 also have ability to do this?
I don't know for sure but my guess is yes. The G1X Four seems to be just a lightly changed G1XOn. I was hoping for some new features like user loadable IR's but I think it just has more drum patterns and maybe more looper time with almost everything else being the same.
usb can be used as an interface ?
Not on this model. The more expensive Zoom's work that way though. I have heard though that there is some sort of third party patch librarian that might work via the USB even though Zoom only intended it for charging and firmware.
Are you playing through an amp on the clean channel? Straight in or through effects loop?
Just direct recorded into a Windows 10 PC via a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface.
Right on. That's the way to do it! Best sound Ive heard anyone get from this unit yet. Finally someone who knows that you cant accurately demonstrate any amp modeler by running it through computer speakers then recording it in your untreated room through a crappy cell phone mic. Sold! Thanks
inclynd So if you run the unit directly into the computer, I get that for recording purposes. How do you hear what’s being played back?

There is too much noice in this patch.
Increase the ZNR and put a Graphic Equalizer in the end, with middle decreased (400 and 800)
