Finally.
Someone tells how to power up the unit. Only took 4 or 5 videos to find that information. It's not in the manual and other tutorials leave it out.
Right ?!?!!? Glad the video helped out - I guess it makes sense on some level, the new model is the same way - for me, it's no big deal because I run my G1X on a pedal board with one power switch and everything stays plugged in
This seems like a very appealing alternative to having to buy a crap ton of pedals.
Especially for playing at home and accompanying yourself... yeah, it's a blast
@@TheImageDoctor do you think it doesn't have a quality to play it onstage ?
@NS TCG ... That is a REALLY dicey question. My initial response is NO but that comes w/ qualifications. I had a buddy a few years ago, great guitar player and luthier, who had a massive pedal board built to HIS own professional specs. He had $1500 in that board easy, maybe closer to $2K. Functionally, just about everything on his board is in this Zoom pedal - but there was NO comparison in terms of sonic quality. Dedicated professional pedals will beat this Zoom pedal all day long, and the ability to tweak-n-tune on stage is SO much easier with a full board of physical pedals in front of you. So he's a professional who would never use this pedal playing "live on stage." I'm not a professional, I play with a group of guys who aren't professionals, and we don't have pro equipment (except the drummer, he's got a killer setup.) Point being, I would happily play "live on stage" with this pedal because that's about the "level" of the guys and equipment I play with. Could a pro hear the difference? Probably so. Will anyone else, given the fact that we're just a group of older dudes banging around trying to play music, probably not. Which is precisely why I have THIS PEDAL and not a full blown pedal board - LOL !!!
I just got one, literally minutes before my shift....
Can't wait to try it out
It's been a couple of weeks since your post on the review page - how are you liking the Zoom unit ???
Very nicely done! This is an excellent introduction to the G1's basic operation.
Very kind of you to comment - thanks for the encouragement and I'm glad you found value in the video
Yep, so I've had it for a month or so now, and I'm still enjoying it. Really a great little addition.
Cool - thanks for posting. Have you settled into any "favorite patches" yet, or made any of your own?
@@TheImageDoctor hi!
Sure, I think J7 was smooth and supernova was another cool sound.
Especially with my whammy bar!
Thanks for this vid. My one arrives today so was watching some demos and this one was the easiest to understand and actually shows how to use the tbing in a really simple way
This is the best tutorial I've seen in a while mate. For someone who struggles with tech (because I'm not 18 years old anymore), I need to watch a lot of tutorials to figure out Bitwig and Lemur and other shit that drives me crazy. Some VSTs have more security locks and installers and codes and keys that I genuinely believe that the VST devs are ex-CIA nerds who have had acting roles in The Big Bang Theory. That's fact. Definitely. Thank you. Very clear.
Thanks so much for taking time to write :-) I'm really happy it was helpful for you!
wonderful tutorial got my g1xon today and this video helped me a lot
Sweet !!! That was my goal in making it... just the basics so you can get right to having fun playing!
I bought this pedal and I love it. Helps me a lot with my projects and it's very handy during gigs. Also it is very affordable. Ticks all the boxes.
you are a legend. I never tought of connecting it to a portable speaker.
LOL - I know right :-) I was sitting there one night and thought... hold on, THIS should work !!!
I had fun hanging out with my friends and finally taking my electric guitar with me
Thanks for the review! I would really appreciate another video on how to save presets and effectively use the pedal as this is my first stomp box. I am having a tough time learning how to save the presets so I can simple switch between clean and whatever effect I like.
Thank you for posting - please accept my apologies for not replying - I'd be glad to do another video but my unit was "lost in transit" during a trip to Colorado
Fun fact: The USB port is also useable for powering the thing I've read online!
Thanks for the wonderful overview, I just ordered my G1xon and am currently waiting for it.. so it was fun getting a first impression of the FX pedal.
Cool - I didn't know that about the USB port!
Thanks for the kind fords. Looks like the video has an 8:1 ratio of likers to haters out there, so it's nice to hear from folks who feel the video is helpful as high-level introduction / overview. (Not sure why people don't like it, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions.)
Image Doctor, thanks for this great tutorial. You just earned a thumbs up and subscription!!
thanks, it looks very good
Be sure to post back here and let us know your thoughts on the Zoom pedal
thank you!! im buying this and i will update you when i know how to use it 😂
Three modes right! Simple. You should teach DAWs. Bitwig especially and loading VSTs into Bitwig. Actually...all the anti-music stuff the developers think us musicians want to spend years learning...if I wanted to be an IT consultant from Milton Keynes, I'd have studied to be an IT consultant. But would never move to Milton Keynes. It's rubbish. Full of concrete cows. Very impressed with your teaching method. Absolutely top notch mate. And I watch these every day. I'm looking forward to getting my Zoom tomorrow rather than dread the instruction manual. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Wow - thanks SO much for the kind words - I love teaching, wish I had more opps to pass along what I've learned in my own personal style
Great information in the intro, and Thank You for the top quality sound demo. I've just subscribed because I appreciate your plain language info.
Does the Zoom G1Xon do freeze/hold effects (like the EHX Freeze pedal or ZCAT Hold)???
Any feedback is appreciated...
I'm looking to add a multi fx to my live board so I can:
a. put it in the fx loop and have access to heaps of stuff
b. peel it off the board and have a fly rig with presets that cover (on a fly rig quality scale) all of my live board sounds
...New idea for me... I hope it catches on.
Rock on TID... cool vids.
Thanks for the kind words (and my apologies for not replying sooner - I just now discovered a bunch of comments that I never noticed before.)
AFAIK... there is no freeze / hold function on the G1Xon
Can you set a rythm, make loops, and use effects all at the same time? It has a bass simulator too, it would be like REALLY good if you can use that effect while recording a loop.
For sure - you can use the pedal that way. but it's kinda hard to do on-the-fly
Great reviewer! Simple and instruction friendly! Well done Sunshine.... but I currently use Cubase 9.5 Elements and wanted to play my guitar thru this (I only have the G1 On version - No wah wah pedal!) and for any tune to be placed straight onto my workpage on Cubase where I drop all my samples. I assume I need to buy an interface (Behringer Euphoria UMC22 for example?) and do it that way? I fear that is the only way to get the best sound? 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack reduce quality? Thoughts please! Thanks, Colin 🏴
The G1X (and G1Xon) uses the same 1/4" jack for line-level (mono) output AND stereo headphone output - and yes, you'll need an interface of some kind to get into your DAW - personally, I'd come out of your G1X with a 1/4" stereo patch cable (i.e. single stereo jack on one end split Left / Right jacks on the other end) to take the native stereo output of the Zoom pedal directly into your DAW audio-interface - hope this helps
You should be able to record if you plug into an audio input device such as a Focusrite 2i2 and record via DAW software. It will record whatever comes out of the Zoom G1Xon. Hopefully I'm correct.
Yep - for mono recording, just run a standard instrument cable from the Output jack into an audio interface. However, the G1xon does produce a stereo (L/R) signal, so you can also come out of the Zoom w/ a 1/4" stereo splitter cable into 2 channels of your audio interface for an even richer, fuller sound.
The Image Doctor, many thanks. So the loops and whatever else goes down the output cable can be recorded onto computer. Extraordinary value for money. All that for the cost of a mid-priced pedal.
How do you save certain effects? So you can change effects efficiently while playing live
Can we have an overdrive effect using it? Thanks in advance and as always, A great video :)
Sir can I use mono cable from G1Xon to my palco guitar amplifier with gain???or it needs stereo amplifiers?
I currently have this unit...love it! I am interested in running it, directly into a pair of self-powered speakers. Just using for home practice. What would you recommend?
Man - there are SO many options out there - I can tell you I've used it into a Harmon-Kardon Onyx and it sounded great - I'm sure any good quality powered personal speaker would be good as well
That auxiliary cable is actually very useful especially you if you have an amplifier that is either solid state or is a multi-effects travel amp like I have which has an auxiliary in which would allow me to bypass all of the effects on the amp and just use the amp as a cabinet brilliant honestly. I think that was the final selling point for me. That and the idea that you could easily use this for Live performance with the Looper. Nice video really good explanations. I guess my only question would be is there any way to store the loops externally and what you would suggest for that??? I doubt it could do it internally??? I was thinking that if I ran the pedal into my Tascam recorder and then out from there to an amplifier that I could realistically record the loops? What do you think?
Sounds like a great idea for storing loops away from the unit - though I suppose the S/N ratio of the outbound signal may be more noticeable going into a field recorder or DAW
The Image Doctor that is a very good point I will give it a shot and let you know how I fare.
Awesome Video...can u plz show how to make a loop where I can use more than three different sound
I would if I could - bus company lost the unit during a trip my son made to Colorado :-(
and what about the expression pedal on the end
I've seen a few of these videos'
for some reason no one demo's the expression pedal
now given that it's a video demonstrating the zoom, you'd think someone might play something for a few seconds and use the damn whah
Agreed - it can be used in a number of ways (volume, wah, etc.) - I was planning to do more videos on this unit, but I loaned it to my son just after making this video and the pedal and his guitar were "misplaced" by the bus company so the pedal never came back home :-(
sir can we connect our zoom g1x with any kind of speakers
Sure - as long as you're running into an amplifier of some kind - this unit will only power headphones
can i use this pedal with my tuba?
Absolutely - and you can play "Tuba Juba Duba" all day long with a back-beat :-)
Sir my amplifier does not have a distortion chanel .It only have gain can I use zoomg1xon for distortion
Can you assign a preset setting for each pedal, like say I want to set sound effect 44 and sound effect 67 on pedal 1 and 2 respectively. Or do the pedals only work for up and down scrolling of the effects?
Pretty sure they only work going up/down - but that would be a cool firmware update !
can I connect this output to a Roland cube? Will it disturb the tones in the zoom G1xon
I have purchased Zoom G1xON .. Can u please tell me what is the settings for perfect Distortion sound ?
That's tough to answer - every guitar player has a different opinion of what "perfect" means and which "distortion" sounds best
Hi. Does it means that we can use Zoom G1 with headphone without amplifier?
Absolutely YES ... AND it will be in true stereo as well (which sounds MUCH better than the standard 1/4" mono output)
Hello,
I have recently purchased zoom G1Xon guitar multi effect pedal. But i don't know what other accessories required to set up with acoustic guitar. Please help me out.
Hey could you please do a review on the g1xfour one
Funny you ask... since I have the G1Xon, I don't really NEED the G1Xfour. However, since this video has well over 250K views, I did reach out to Zoom and request a G1Xfour unit to do a follow-up review. No reply at all...lol.
my home theater system causes latency when connected via AUX. have an idea how to avoid this latency? thanks
Well that's VERY interesting - nothing I've tried has any latency issues, though I can't say I tried a home theater (I bet it sounded good though - lol)
How do u edit an effect like to change the tone of it
You can create your own patch. You can create a max of 100 patches or so.
That's covered in the manual and other videos, and you do have a surprising amount of control for tones
Hello. You used a .25 inch connector with a mini adapter to connect to the portable speaker. Can you just connect to an amp with .25 connectors??
Of course, if the amp has a mini jack that accepts a stereo line in - not sure what would happen w/ a mono line in using a stereo cable - have you tried it yet???
Fun Fact: all the sound in this video is coming from this guy's socks.😂
Nice video btw.
It's the only way to play :-) Here's one for the new model, no socks just hands: ua-cam.com/video/T686vo6zoI0/v-deo.html
Hey everyone - I don't get on UA-cam much (working on that...lol) and just realized there were ALL these comments - please accept my apology for not replying to them all, and not replying sooner - I had absolutely NO idea there were over 100K views of this video!!! So I'm going through and replying to quite a few comments tonight - thanks for playing along everyone :-)
Can you delete the drive and cab simulations so you are only using the modulation effects? Also, can you bypass the unit on the fly to return to the amps base tone?
That is a great question and I don't know the answer off the top of my head - in general, I'd say this is less of a performance tool in regard to "on the fly" type changes - not that you can't setup most anything you want as user patches you click through in sequence for each song / set
Can you tell me why the volume output is unsatisfactory low when i use my earphones/headphones?
I cannot - there's no way to adjust volume of the "output" independently of various effects settings in the unit.
Here's what the manual says to do...
- Check the connections (ĺP5).
- Adjust the levels of the effects being used
(ĺP11).
- Adjust the master level (ĺP14).
- When adjusting the volume with an expression
pedal, make sure that a suitable volume setting
has been set with the pedal.
- Confirm that the TUNER OUTPUT is not set to
"MUTE" (ĺP20)
hi I'm using this pedal with my electro acoustic guitar it is brand new but A4 and D9 don't sound, I need to turn volume up a lot in order to get sound and still breaks, do you thing it has something to do with my guitar? or my pedal is defective.thanks
Now that's a great questions - wish my unit was available and I'd try it right now myself - maybe someone else out there can give it a go ???
How do you make your own effect. For example I just wan overdrive and delay please help
Basically you set the unit how you want and save the settings to a User patch. Here's the PDF manual which should help: www.zoom-na.com/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_G1on_G1Xon.pdf
does this pedal feel cheap? or is it at least decently solid?
Well, hmmmm - given that most of it is plastic, it sort of feels cheap at first, but then it doesn't feel cheap once you use it a little - IMO
@@TheImageDoctor I agree. I haven't used this pedal but I've used several zoom pedals with the same kind of builds and they usually dish out pretty good quality stuff.
Sir.. do you have tutorial for that item that shows different settings for effects?? No laptop or anything.. just pedal, amp, and a guitar alone... thanks
Regretfully I do not - I only covered basic concepts of the pedal which I felt no one else was covering. However, there are a LOT of new videos (and websites) with information about this pedal that cover the effects specifically.
@@TheImageDoctor thanks sir for the info.. i was a beginner and i just want to learn more of my skill
I bought two of these (one as a present) because of all the good reviews.
What the reviews do not tell, is that most effects are quite noisy...Practically, to create a patch without noise - you have to sacrifice the most valuable effects, like amps etc...or live with the noise.
(yes, i know there is Noise Gate)
Also, the device does not like other units chained before/after it - it ruins their sound.
I don't practice with it anymore, I prefer a $10 miniamp from those on Ebay (not going to advertise a brand here :) ), which i carry in my bag pocket. These also have an AUX input, so you can play rhythms/backtracks from your phone.
All in all, in 2017 - the device is quite outdated as quality/price.
I suppose you're right - I'm not a discerning or professional player - the unit sounded great to me as the only "effect box" in my chain for jamming in the bedroom sort of stuff
I just bought one and it has the latest system version, but I can't connect it to the pc by using the USB cable, It says that it's an unknown device and it can't find the controller. I've been trying to find the driver but still can't find it. Who can help me with this, please?
I have had this for like 7 years never really used it, now ordered a micro cube so i guess i have to connect it to aux input to bypass the micro cube built in effects ? Also do you recommend inexpensive studio monitor such as presonus iris 3.2 ? And can these monitors connect with zoom g1xon without actually any audio interface or pc ?
With the correct cable, you can come directly out of the G1Xon and directly into self--powered speakers of any kind - no other interface required
@@TheImageDoctor yes im using computer speaker works great i hope its same with monitor speaker, gonna invest in monitors at some point in future, thank you for ur rply!
Can I play leads in three or more different sounds while loop is playing...
My g1on stalls on startup, on the Zoom welcomescreen only with a dot in the top.... Any help??
Maybe try a factory reset, then a firmware update if the reset doesn't work.
By way of seventrumpets.com who found it in the G1Xon manual, here's how to reset the unit:
To restore the factory settings of Zoom G1Xon multi-FX, you must power on while simultaneously holding the HOME button. When the display appears a message “Are You Sure?”, select YES and press ENTER button to start initialization of the program. The Factory Reset procedure is complete.
Warning! This procedure will return all of the settings to the values when the GT-PRO was shipped from the factory. Do not use this function unless you are certain that you want to do this. This function also works for the Zoom G1on.
Should i buy this with external speakers or a 10watt amp??
This is purely personal opinion, but I feel the sound is much "fuller" at LOWER volume levels using (amplified) speakers - such as would be used with an mp3 player, iPod, iPhone etc. - than a low watt guitar amp
is it safe to use a dc9v adapter that runs 300Ma on this pedal? if you know please let me know because im going to be purchasing this tomorrow thanks! :D
Oh man - so sorry I wasn't online to see this question - hope you got your answer elsewhere
Could I use this multieffect for play in live?
Of course you can....just don't spill beer on it and maybe buy a cushioned case as it's plastic
Someone said they did a live gig with it and it was too noisy with the pops and crackling. But other than that, I don't know.
@@quentinmehana my old 505 Zoom does that...probably could be the input jacks...I'll be getting my inputs replaced soon cause the pedal is so versatile and simple to use...cheers from Down under 🙂
I've had ZERO issue with "noise" from this unit - whether from the signal processing, or the connectors, or anything else..
should I take this one or Boss ds1? I have a fender 10g amp. so I desperately need a good distortion.
the boss ds-1 is fine but very limited. Its easy to use and built very well but the zoom g1on or the g1Xon is great because there's plenty of sound options to keep you from getting bored.
And a rhythm section, a looper and a good tuner build in. And the sound is really good!
Can connect my 2.1 speakers to aux input of the processor
Should work just fine. 2.1 = Left + Right + Bass (mono) and most 2.1 "computer speakers" have a standard mini-stereo line / cable - i was playing my new unit into my home theater system just last night
Is the battery of this effect can charge while connected to amplifiers?
If I understand the question, the answer is "No" - for battery power, it uses 4 x AA's and there is no "recharging" circuit
There's no recharge circuit, but if you can find an old USB cord, you can use that as a power source. My power Jack wouldn't work when I tried using it.
Bro can we use overdrive and reverb simultaneously on this unit
Yep - you can select and chain together up to 5 effects in any order you want.
Where can I ge an 'Unce Curve"box like the one you are playing through..Thanks!
Have you used the USB port for power? Which USB cable does it use?
I have not tried powering the unit via USB, but it uses a standard (i.e. USB 2.0) cable
Does this zoom pedal works with the acoustic guitars....??
Yes it does. I've run my acoustic through it and it definitely "works" (effects, looper, etc.) but it was DESIGNED for electric guitars, so the FX sound better w/ electric IMO.
Does it have a harmonist? I mean can you play the third, octave along and such?
The old school pedal I had way back was called an "octive multiplexer" and I think it may have something along those lines...???
Sir I have s normal speaker .Should I buy this procesor for playing distortion
You need an amplifier or powered speaker w/ AUX input - do you have either of those?
can i use for mic in church for reverb effects?? please reply me
I suppose you CAN use it that way, but you would be much better off w/ a dedicated vocal reverb pedal
@@TheImageDoctor I tried using this method with a mic for reverb effects using a Bluetooth speaker as an amp. But I'm not getting any sound from the mic. It's a dynamic mic . What do you think might be the problem?
can you use the expression pedal as volume in off possition and wah in on possition?
Pretty sure the pedal can only be set to one "expression" at a time - have you seen that multi-function on other pedals?
Which one should I get? The Zoom G1XON, Mooer GE100 or the Digitech Element XP? Please reply
Don't know about the Mooer GE100 or the Digitech Element XP, but the Zoom G1XON has excellent features and is awesome value for money. You won't regret buying it.
Really hard to say "which one" you should get without knowing what features you place the most value on
Can you do recording here via PC?
Sure - all you need is an audio interface of some kind. Technically, I suppose you could plug into the built-in "microphone" port of your computer, but that's probably a mono signal, and probably doesn't sound very good. If you have an aftermarket sound card, it may have L/R RCA input jacks, and that would probably be much better input signal quality. But a dedicated audio interface would be your best bet for recording to a PC.
Can I use this for band practice?
Yes... unless its a rubber band, hair band, or a marching band... then it would be difficult ;-)
So can we use it as audio interface too?
Nope - no direct audio interface - the USB is for firmware updates (mainly)
does it have overdrive or distortion?
Yep - it has virtual pedals for both effects AND overdrive amp simulators
Can this be connected directly to an audio interface?
Sure - just come out of the 1/4" output into your interface (or for a stereo signal, you could come out of the headphone jack with the correct patch cable)
@@TheImageDoctor more like in the sense that the interface wont break or cause clipping on the audio (especially when using distortion) is what i meant to say.
Can I use a mobile usb for power supply here ...thanks:)
According to pg.6 of the PDF manual, you can - but I haven't tried it: www.zoom-na.com/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_G1on_G1Xon.pdf
i have a yamaha dgx 660 keyboard can i hook this up to the keyboard and use it?
Sure you can, and it WILL work for the looper and drum machine. However, since you're using a keyboard, you probably don't want/need any of the effects (???) so I recommend editing patch A1 to be completely clean - no effects, no amp sims, nothing, just a clean signal.
@@TheImageDoctor wym a1? I'm thinking I just hook it up to the key board and start looping it's that easy right? :)
@@worldfamousgamer9191 Well, technically, yes... but by default the unit applies the most recently used patch to the instrument input - on first startup, that patch is A1 - so if you plugin and start looping, your keys will have the parameters of that patch applied to the line input - that's why you may want to setup a completely neutral / clean patch at A1 with no effects, amp sims, etc. - JM2C
Can i use stranger PS1 adapter for this?
Good question - if the jack fits and the power specs match, maybe you can ???
Can you use the aux in to play backing tracks?
Yes you can :-) that's one of the coolest features of this little pedal
does it work with cheap cube amps?
sure it does - just run it as "clean" as possible and let the pedal do all the tone work :-)
Is this also a loop pedal
Yeppers - its got a looper built in that you can run alongside the built in percussion / drum function - I touch on all this in the video
Can the drum beat be used while playing the guitar??
Yep - in fact, you can use the rhythm function AND the looper function together
I tried using my power adapter on my zoom g1xon and it doesn't work.
You must have an adapter w/ the correct specs. I use a One-Spot power source (powering multiple pedals) and it works perfectly fine.
