I was looking for a mic comparison but ended up enjoying the song more than hearing for differences between the two mics lol. Love the review and the song, keep it up
P120 all day long, had more open top end and clarity. The AT2020 has resonance in the lower mids I’d be working to get rid of. Thanks for doing the shootout really useful 👍🏻
Just on a face of it. It is quite annoying processing (de-essing) p120's more than 4dB boost at 12.9kHz as it picks up a lot of high esses. On the other hand, what might seem as muffled is actually more flat and easier to adjust in post-pro. Without the high pass engaged, the AKG has better freq response and more character, even though the RAW might sound more ear pleasing from AT.
What I love about this review is how wholesome it is. Often times I only hear people with high voices singing and talking, but you sang high, low and even mids. Personally I think they both sound very good and similar but I have a lower voice and I wanna record vocals and I was wondering which one you'd recommend for a lower voice?
After doing a frequency analysis of both the mics I think the AT2020 is the way to go. It has more detail across the board. The p120 sounds darker because of a lack of high frequency detail and low voices still have high frequency energy. I hope that helps.
@@TimMoxeyMusic thank you so much! I did get the AT2020. Loving it so far. I will definitely get the p120 in the future for sure just to see how it works with my voice (I've got a pretty weird voice 🤣).
before this video I was kind of stressed. I couldn’t decide which one was better for me. I got calmed down by the beautiful song and by your beautiful voice and the ending, where you explain what where your thoughts, just made me comfortable in my decision. I immediately started following you ❤
nailed it.. The difference is so subtle that in the end there will be no difference. The source matters more ( singer or instrument ) than the gadgets..
Glad you liked it. I agree it does feel like the AKG has some EQ on it. I did find the AT2020 easier to work with though because of the detail in the higher frequencies.
Definitely the AT202 sounds better on the guitar, the p120 accents some harmonics and resonances that I don't like. For vocals I can go with any of them.
Great review, i have both these mics, AT2020 is clearer and brighter with boost in mids and low frequencies. AKG 120 has a warmer tone with boosted highs. So if it's for singing AKG P120 is better and rest all purposes it's AT2020. Both are great mics with excellent build quality, Akg is heavier. Hope this helps someone deciding between these two competitors.
THANK YOU!!! I have a big voice so I really needed to have at least one person to belt out and that helped me a lot. All of the tests were extremely helpful 🙏🏾
Mwahaha my plan is finally working!! 🤣 But seriously thank you I'm glad you like it. I am working on my latest album and it should be out early next year.
I have the P-120 and recorded my guitar amp with it. If you want to hear check out the results it is the "Hey Hey My My" cover on my channel. It is a fantastic mic.
Yeah thats the difference I hear too. Although after doing the frequency analysis it showed that the high frequencies are a little lacking in the p120. I'll do a video about it soon.
What did I get out of this: Well, I bought the AT2020 and I fell in love with your voice and your song !! I'm currently listening to 'Still with Me'....... That's you, right? :)
From what I heard, they both have different characters and it sounds as though the AT2020 has a boosted high but I guess it's the normal way condensers are. The P120 is also great but there's some padded highs to it.. Have you tried the warm audio wa-47jr? How does it compare to them?
In my untrained ear the At2020 sounds more open and though it captures more high, it has a tendency to hurt your ears while the P120 sound a bit closed and finesse but the at2020 has more punch
@ThruDa Corner I missed black Friday but I just got it at guitar center for 79.99 when their label Said it was 99.99 until they rang it up and saw the deals still on. I figured I'd spend the extra 20$ on it and get the 2 year warranty even though I wasn't gonna at first
The clarity of AT 2020 is better than P 120.. Different persons may have different opinion..as currently I'm using the Blue Ember.. 2020 is close to It.. Highs r prominent in 2020.. Thnx 4 d great comparision 👍
HI MISTER ''''''Talent''''....wahouuuuuuuuu miaouuuuuuu vocalment so strong, so pure, so emotional so accurate.........the AKG P120 is sweeter and have more low...i Prefer as you the AKG for vocal
@@TimMoxeyMusic Incredible technical voice and emotional...i'm 51 years old man..and you make me feel like i was 12 years old hahahahah......i liked more the AKGP120 for his presence and warm and low
I feel that the P120 had a slight edge because it's a tad warmer but I also like the AT2020. I'd probably get both of these at some point (I had the AT2020 but gave it to my 19 year-old godson. I'll buy it back at some point). Either of these will work and are really not that different to each other.
Excelente vídeo!! Gracias a esto pude decidirme y adquirir el akg, espero sigas creciendo en tu canal y musicalmente, cantas muy bien Saludos desde Mexico!!
Hey thanks for watching. I liked the At2020 more because it was a more neutral sound that I found easier to work with. but you can still get amazing results with the p120
I think you scooped the low mid in the AKG P120 a little too much. I love the P120 on the AC guitar and AT 2020 on the vocals. Overall I'd go for the P120. During post-recording EQing, I prefer to boost high frequencies to taste on vocals, rather than having to deal with scooping out problematic high frequencies.
what sound card do you use?are ssl preamps much superior than golden age pre 73?Thanks in advance for your future reply. I write from Italy. You are good at singing
The SSL bigsix has it's own converters so i use that. The GAP pre 73 vs the SSL isn't really about quality but about the colour of the sound. The SSL pres are very neutral (which is why I use them for these demos) whereas the Pre73 has the colouration of a 1073 style pre. When i record vocals i almost always run them through the pre73 because i like what it brings. I hope that helps
I think the AT2020 will give you better results because it has a more balanced frequency response. In saying that though both could get you really good results.
akg p120 is sold in other countries more at2020 is okay mic but I pick up an oc16. I think if u are serious about music pick up a $500 mic not too cheap not too expensive.

Dude. I came for the review and stayed for the musical talent. Thanks for being awesome.

The P120 gave the voice and instrument more depth and focus, whereas the AT2020 was too clear for comfort without any processing.

Best thing to learn here is...if you have talent, similar mics will not make much difference. The singer makes the mic sound good.

I obviously don't know your EQ, but they're close, with low mids on the AT standing out. It especially stood out with the guitar.
