Hello, first I must say thank you for the video! I was unsure when choosing between the p120 and the at 2020 from technical audio, I ended up purchasing the akg p120, as I trust the akg mics more. I think I made a good choice.
@@DarkCornerStudios For me it came down to price for what I needed. Podcasting and the occasional instrumental or vocal recording. I managed to get the p120 for $112 Canadian, versus $209 for the P220. Big difference.
I bought the AKG p220 for 160 € and I can currently buy the AKG p120 for 70 €. should i return the p220 and buy the p120? it's more than twice as cheap. the microphone will be used for for youtube, podcast and such, not singing
I was literally going to say the same thing. Before hearing the comparison, I thought the 50hz boost would sound better but the P120 was actually a little better.
Perhaps important information for some people - these are electret microphones, with the constant internal polarity of the capsule, not the external one. Neither a disadvantage nor an advantage, just a fact.
The miniature suitcase 😂😂😂 Brilliant! I think I like the 220. Bt I'm so used to the really quiet floor of the Rødes 16db seems a bit much. Still I guess the miniature suitcase makes up. Good vid!

RE: P170. Here in Aussie, the price difference between the two microphones reviewed herein is much bigger and as a career pro musician nearing retirement, I must be consciously aware of $$$. I have used the P170 for recording my flute playing. Compared to a Rode NT5 which I also had at the time, the P170 was a bit less precise, I'd use the term "wooly". It is also a bit softer sounding, hence my wool. The Rode NT5 is brutally honest, is a much better microphone for fine details but it can occasionally sound hard and clinical. The P170 doesn't give that kind of detail however it's very acceptable as an instrument microphone and I liked it for certain kinds of songs. It is miles ahead of some other cheap Chinese SDCs I've tried and moved on from. I also have a Rode NT1 to compare it to. The P170 is not as dark as the NT1, nor is it as clear but again, it's completely fine for home recording instruments. I have not tried recording anything other than my instrument so I'm really only helpful for giving the relative personalities of the mics. If I was to have a P170 and nothing else, I'd be able to make some lovely sounds with it and since selling it on, I've missed it and always kept tabs on the local used market to try and get another one. Good luck with your recordings.

Hey man. Good review. I am looking to upgrade (on a budget) from a usb mic to an xlr condenser and I wanted to run two questions by you. 1. Can you get a professional-quality sound with the AKG P120 recording vocals for music/ doing voiceovers? 2. Between the AKG P220 and AT2035 which would you recommend for recording mainly vocals and some acoustic guitar?
Hello, can you tell me how the P120 reacts in an untreated room in terms of reverberation / echo (if you shout or sing loudly for example). I have a strong hesitation between the P120 and the Shure SM58 (intended rather for the stage), it is the problem of the reverberation which makes me hesitate (for recording vocals and rap)
Hello! I am writing using a translator because I come from Russia, I hope it will be clear :) I choose between P120 and p220, I tested p120 with a friend, I record guitar and vocals in an ordinary apartment, I didn't like p120 because of dirty high frequencies, in particular the guitar rang too much. Is it worth overpaying and taking p220? Will it be better in this regard? How is he doing with the upper frequencies?
Havent had the x1s on my test bench...though what I know about the x1s...they are pretty comparable. Get both and compare them to your voice...send one back. The x1s is on my list to review though

The p220 sounds good over the music at the end and on laptop speakers. Seems like a good communication tool for this medium.
It is my favourite out of the lineup.
Got the review on the P420 coming Monday...
The P120 is a great microphone. I run it through an Audient Evo 4 and it is excellent.

@@flexflexflexflexflexflex6474 The P120 gives good results for those things. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
p220 sounds muddy compared the p120 that has much clearer high end to be honest -which makes sense if its aimed towards instruments

Own both microphones... I can't tell the goddamn difference. They both sound good respond good to both metal, classical piano and vocals.
“This might be your huckleberry” best statement ever 😂 Tombstone is a great film
One of my top 5 for sure!
The P420 is gonna be dope
Yeah...looking forward to that one.
The P840 will be my first tube mic...cant wait to go broke on that one

bought the p120 for 99$ a few weeks ago and I love it :D
Amazing!
That mic is a beast for the price!

p120 in sometimes it sounds muffled. maybe due to its small diapragm.
Oh yeah, 220 much smoother. wow. didn't expect that.
It makes me really curious to try the P420

I was very, very tempted by the P220 for $119 at GC, but they sound exactly the same to me, so $119 saved. You gonna do the P170?

A bit too much "420" before shooting the vid?

Guys, please, quick, which one is better for rap vocals?
What does it mean when we say that a microphone is hotter than another?
It means one mic puts out a higher signal than the other.
So you require less gain to get the same signal
