April , you did a fantastic job on this dresser and completely made it look updated and beautiful. Thank you the instructions as you were working. I am thinking of painting my bedroom furniture and you gave some great tips.
I was just thinking the same thing. I got a bedroom set from my mother and love the style and shape but would like to lighten up the color. I have been a little afraid to paint wood. I think I may have just gotten the courage to do it.
Amazing transformation and the color choices were beautiful. As a do-it-yourselfer, I really enjoy seeing other women taking on creative projects with power tools!
Since I first saw this video, one month after my husband passed away. My son I started working on his dresser last night. We've only out in thicoer plywood in the bottom of the two offset very wide sections on the right side of the piece! We're did our own cutting down of a 4 x 8 piece of plywood, which took us a very long time to do with our Dremel tool! Next we're going to clean, glue in the shelves, cut out the back pieces for the cords, spread out wood filler and lightly sand. Lastly, we will use Minwax polyshades in espresso on the whole thing, even the hardware and on the back! Thanks for making this video! Everythong looks so professional and I hope your first client still loves hers as much as we will love ours and our t.v. thats been still in the shipping package since the summertime.
God damn you women love attention. Fucker's dead and now his memory only lives on to serve as an out-of-place sympathy-generator for your diy projects lol. May he rest in peace. Without a wife.
Yes Sis, you slayed that piece! I recently inherited my family home and when told my sisters I would be refurbishing the perfectly good bedroom furniture, they scoffed at me so terribly.. it took showing them your video to shut their mouths... I am pumped and ready 🥰. Thanks for your inspiration 🙏🏽
WOW! Loved your video and the results. I've been painting and refinishing furniture for more then 20 years. You did an outstanding job. Here are a few short cuts I want to share. Try the Annie Sloane paint sometime it's amazing, check it out on Pinterest. Also Behr is awesome paint but for the money Glidden is a fantastic paint for interior and furniture projects. Many people don't know this but you can have nearly any color mixed into a Glidden or Behr formula ( i.e. Sherwin Williams , Annie Sloan, etc) they have recipes for your colors on the computer (I worked in the paint department so I know first hand). The Annie Sloan paint looks great with the clear wax she sells but you can also seal it with a clear water based Polycrylic. Keep up your amazing work and CHARGE what your worth (which is more then you think). ;-)
I seriously need to STOP watching your videos before I be at Home Depot buying things I don't even understand lol! Girl, you got a sista pumped up like "I GOT THIS!" Phenomenal!👏👏👏
$35 excuse me? Did I hear you right?!!!!! The good wills near me charge way more for dressers like this! Like closer to three digits expensive!! Hi5* on a stellar deal! Looks amazing!
lol,,yeah I know rite my wife and I went to a goodwill out here in sacramento California and they wanted $80 dollars and mind you the dresser was broke ,,so yeah I know what you mean
No, we've realized this dresser being solid wood deserves more care and love dealing with the wood than sanding, throwing paint on with a wagner paint gun, and splotching stain onto the top. It's not hard to do what she did....don't act like it is. PS, when you talk/type, you don't like, use commas in that way
You definitely slayed it. That stain is beautiful. It would be beautiful in my home with that stain on the top but a distressed white look for the bottom. This is a great tutorial. Nicely done. and you were so on point with showing us each step and what you used along with the technique you used. Thank you so much for this well done DIY video.
I am so gonna try this for a tv stand , just what i have been looking for, you did a GREAT JOB. so inspiring ! Now to find a old dresser on the cheep...
I that dresser my dear is absolutely gorgeous!!!...you did that transformation perfectly..there isn't anything I would have done differently...if she was your first client then you can look forward to many more to come!...excellent job sweetie!..keep up the excellent work!would like to see more from you.
You are so inspiring! I just told my husband that I want to visit the thrift stores this weekend and find an inexpensive piece of furniture to renovate. ❤️❤️🤗🤗
April you did a fantastic job on that dresser! From the colors you chose, to how you reconfigured the drawers! You are an inspiration! I also like how you talk through what you are doing. Not too much and not too little!. Great job and just wanted to tell you so!
Love the video. I just subscribed. You need to have a tv show. I don't think we have any blacks on tv doing this . I painted my desk two years ago. I stripped everything but the top part of the desk. It is peeling. any suggestions
Where are you from. Any chance in Florida? I can't wait to see the drawer fronts. I have a huge dresser, armour and poster queen bed with lots of details and want to refinish that along with many other pieces around the house.
I want my bedroom set done or I will have to sell it. Same with my fancy dining room table chair set. that will definitely be for sale because it's not meant and will never look ristic.
Wow, your work is beautiful... never would've known you hadn't been doing this for years! Great job. If you ever refurbish/repair, etc, a large armoire PLEASE SHARE how you did it. I have 2, one that is big,, 2 doors with metal where door panels would be, has vertical middle piece which is where doors latch & inside are 3 shelves, it's all cedar. I want to remove the vertical middle piece & make doors bigger (get rid of those metal panels, adjust shelves - add 2 drawers, both sides, at the bottom, making this piece into an a media/tv center... Wish u were close, I'm in NOLA, I'd choose you to do this!! Great work, thanks for sharing, keep 'em coming. And many Blessings!!
This maybe late Ms. Bee. I don't remember if I have written anything before about this. I tried this about three years ago or so. Guess what? Your instructions were spot on. I didn't do quite as much as you did, however, I took an old dresser and gave a little more life to it. I had a chance to do such because we were experiencing a water leak, so the furniture had to be taken outside letting me seize the day! Everyone that has seen it, even some seasoned carpenters, have said that it was great. Thank you. You taught me a skill. If I need to fix something or spruce something up, I can do so. Thank you.
You did a really nice job on that piece. One tip. On stained surfaces and after you apply polyurethane, hand sand the polyurethane with 1000 grit sandpaper, after a day or two (make sure the polyurethane is dry and cured). Then, apply Minwax Furniture Wax to the stained areas. Spread the wax on, let it dry to a dull finish. Like automotive wax. Then, buff the wax by hand. You can use terry towels at first until most of the wax is removed. Finally, use microfiber towels and A LOT of elbow grease, and buff to an ultra shiny finish. It is a ton of work but you will be shocked at the results. It may increase the value of your furniture restores and help you to gain a reputation for doing incredible work. Practice on a scrap piece of wood first to convince yourself you can do it. You will be amazed at the results. Good luck!
2112quicksilver can I ask you why the Minwax wax over the poly? Does it improve the look of the poly, which I think is not the nicest, as far as finishes go, but is tougher than wax.
Wow! Awesome job on this dresser! You make it look so easy! I've wanted to tackle a table I have just to see if I can do this ... I'm going to watch your videos and see what I can learn so that I can give it a try! Beautiful job...
She repurposed a dated but all wood substantial piece of bedroom furniture into a modern entertainment unit to be used in the main living area. Leaving the drawer covers in place would defeat the purpose. She did a beautiful job. The only awkwardness which may be an issue would be that there are no back cutouts to assist in running and hiding cords. However, that is an easy fix. Excellent job!!!
I was a faux finisher for 30 years and re-styled hundreds of furniture pieces .. I am really impressed with the superior job you did on this piece. It is excellent! 👏👏
I love ittttt!!! Goaaalsss A couple of questions tho: - what sander are you using? What brand? Etc? - about how long did it take you to do all of that approximately? Thank you so much! Im interested in doing something like this soon :)
Loved it! Every time I go in Goodwill I look for nice pieces like you find and I neverrrrr see anything good. And then it's wayyy over priced. You're so lucky yours has nice pieces at great prices!!
Yes Yes I totally Agree cause I don't think I'm going to be waisting my money on this high price furniture I'm doing make overs Thrift store here I come😁
What can you not do?!! Healthy long hair...glowing skin.....liquifying african soap.....making beds.....redecorating dressers.....😩 Should I continue because I can. Love you April!!😍💜
April- you are the best up-cycler on You Tube girl! Perfect job- getting rid of those crudely carved doors was the right way to go. Brilliant girl! Great colour too.

How did you get into DIY (woodworking/furniture) maybe that could be video FAQ. This turned out really nice! You definitely pulled it off!
I read it depends on your area! I live in Austin and the prices are pretty up there as well. But surrounding towns have stuff way cheaper.
lol,,yeah I know rite my wife and I went to a goodwill out here in sacramento California and they wanted $80 dollars and mind you the dresser was broke ,,so yeah I know what you mean
The pricing is up to Managers and the more money the store makes, the bigger their monthly bonus! I was an Assistant Manager at McKinney Texas one.
I love how you dont do anything half-ass like most diys on UA-cam ❤️️
I know right that's why Im here .. Like what am I doing wrong. ALOT lol

I think all those thumbs down, are people that realized, that it's hard work and not willing to put in the effort...LOL

Well, someone on this thread is salty
Amazing!!! Like would not have thought to just transform a dresser into an entertainment center. Saving so much money.

Your work is beautuful!! You're a very talented lady and I'm sure your clients are extremely pleased with their purchase.
Superb. You completely transformed this piece from gaudy to elegant.
You did a really nice job on that piece. One tip. 2112quicksilver can I ask you why the Minwax wax over the poly? Does it improve the look of the poly, which I think is not the nicest, as far as finishes go, but is tougher than wax.
That would defeat the point of using the matte finish poly
I did this to my coffee buffet and it is sooo smooth and shiny

This is one of the most professional DIYs I have seen. Very nice work!!!
I'm surprised you got rid of the top drawers. I thought they were really interesting and beautiful. Did you use them for something else? Just curious!
She said it was gonna be an entertainment centre so maybe the gaps are needed for a gaming console or TV box or DVDs 🤷
I completely agree! Such a pitty!
I didn't like the drawers.

Lol aww! This comment made me smile! 😊 thank you boo!!
What brand paint sprayer is that? I have one but it ALWAYS gets clogged.
Wagner
For Stephanie Marquina: The paint usually has to be thinned to prevent clogging. Water for latex paints and mineral spirits for oil base paints.
good advice
Does it still work? I have had the same experience with sprayers. They clog very easily.
April- you are the best up-cycler on You Tube girl! Perfect job- getting rid of those crudely carved doors was the right way to go. Brilliant girl! Great colour too.
Amazing job
Nicely done! You’re amazing in your vision and also in how you clearly narrate what you’ve done!

Amazing work
This dresser looks amazing! I like how you converted it to have book shelves.
How much was the paint sprayer and we're did you get it from?
