This restoration may be the most drastic one I ever do. Never in my furniture refinishing days have I seen a dresser with 3 and a half pounds of paint (yes, I weighed it). It's one of those makeovers where I just love seeing the before and after side by side... I hope you enjoy this video!

I love that, rather than trashing the paint job verbally and physically (lol,) you preserved a bit of its original personality. That, along with recycling parts from other furniture, shows the respect you have for these items and how serious you are with restoration and preservation, and I think that's really rad.
The execution of the paint job was sloppy, but it was artistic. Made a great piece of art.
@@Tenebarum I know, I was thinking from the beginning that I wish you could keep the colors, but lose the texture. It looks amazing from far away, but close up the paint would feel tacky and the texture would pick up grime, the sticking drawers would be unusable, the paint would flake and my cat would insist on eating the chips that fall from it, etc.
I don't suppose there's a way to pour furniture paint, and have a better finish? The finished piece was gorgeous though.
Wow someone else who says rad normally instead of nice or cool. Pretty rad

why is this video like an indie short film of a dresser restoration? AND WHY AREN'T MORE VIDEOS JUST LIKE THIS?! the little moments with flowers, THE LADY BUG!!! everything about this video is beautiful! and it's a FREAKING DRESSER RESTORATION. the talent in UA-cam just amazes me. keep doing what you do. so happy i discovered you.
RIGHT??? truly masterful
DUDE channels like this are such rare but cool finds, I recommend the guy who made something like “100 hour cake”, it sounds clickbaity but his videos are actually really peaceful and cinematic omg
Just like the asmr-artist Moonlight cotage she does a full-on cinematics and her acting is spoot-on but sadly she is severily underated.
Watch Liziqi you'll thank me later
@@ivamanral989 OMG I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER
Keeping that paint layer was a great idea. It is a legit work of art and I hope the original owner knows how great it looks on its own.

“I’m sure I could find a use for this.” Oh my god, we are very alike. I’m a toy and plush toy restorer, and I always find myself keeping loose fabric cuts, felt, random plastic eyes, build a bear hearts, nylon hair, and antique doll dresses. Some of my random saved items have saved my ass for one reason or another.
When the paint from the top came off intact, I literally said out loud "That's an art piece." So seeing you frame it at the end was very cool.

You just performed an actual miracle! It's also sweet that you saved their abstract artwork.
It would be cool to send the original owner/artist a picture of the transformation of the dresser and artwork!

The way the shadows move at 7:38 was a beautiful reminder of both how much time this kind of thing takes and how lovely the act of spending time can be.
DAM crazy editing nice! 5:23
I literally said "I would frame that" when the top layer of paint came off and then you did, amazing. The restoration is beautiful too, I love the use of picture frames!
It's so magical watching someone be so good at something while also realizing the amount of care and respect that goes into what they do. Love to see it.
Is it weird that I actually really loved that he didn't talk through the process?! It was beautiful to watch and hearing nature sounds at times was actually really soothing. Loved this! And I don't even restore furniture. 🤣
I've always wanted to do videos as calm as his, but my environment is always noisy. I tried to do at night, but i got tired and went to bed. This just annoys me so much. And I'm jealous of people that could do videos like this...😭I'm crying in pain right now.. HUWAAAAAAA
I didn’t notice until I read your comment. I think the captions were more than enough, but I guess that becomes a preference thing.

I watch a lot of "Odd Tinkering" and "Hahns Atelier" so I know exactly why you were recommended to me: Things I'm interested in, restoration, humor, minimal talking, ASMR and absolutely PHENOMENAL camerawork/editing/craftsmanship. I am absolutely IN LOVE! 😍
This dresser project is amazing. It turned out so wonderful! I also love that you preserved the art that the original owner had made. (I wonder if he misses it?) Having an eye to see things others don't, and having the skill and know-how to execute a final product that looks amazing, (not to mention the gorgeous camerawork and editing) is the best end result of sheer talent and hard work! Very very Fonky
Excellent camera work , great editing , no loud music , terrific wood working skills . This is easily one of my favourite channels !
1:09 gotta be real I'd have an awesome day playing with the texture of that paint
it is 1:45 in the morning and I am watching this guy transform the greatest furniture make over in history and I am more than amazed with his carpentry skills but as well his ability to bring in tid bits that make it alluring (best word?) the little lady bug crawling over the cord and falling off and the camera panning up to the sky and coming down to the hardware store - this may easily be overlooked but these are things that make directors GREAT. See you at the oscars.

Well, you got me again! Fantastic job...and framing the old painted top? Sheer brilliance! Thank you for sharing your many talents with us.
At first I thought it was covered in melted crayons. The paint looked better framed then on the dresser. You love a challenge and I am surprised every time at how beautiful your work comes out. Love all your videos and the filming and editing is on point every time.
Ditto. 🙂
I was going to say this as well but you said it better
Your talent is outstanding and you create such masterpieces
I was NOT expecting framing that paint -- that is just hilarious and perfect!! Dresser turned out really beautiful.
5:22 woooo hang on buddy, That masking is amazing
The finish that the wax leaves on the wood is really beautiful, it always reveals the details of its growth process. That's why I bought the raw wood for the shelves in my room and polished them all with clear wax to make them natural and protected from the sun(bcz northeast Brazil is very hot).
You never know what sort of inspiration may be taken from a video like this. That mat of paint gave me a fantastic idea for getting rid of a load of old paint I cant dispose of in liquid form. I’m going to the lumber yard to find some scrap to make a “drying tray”!
I you line the bottom of your "drying tray" with a silicone baking sheet the paint will peel of very easily as i do paint pouring and let the drips fall onto a silicone mat to use in jewellery
Yes, often seeing some garbage can inspire new ways to make a run to the dump. If you frame it, you can get the cheaper 'household garbage' rate.

Есть люди, которые видят красоту! Это Вы! Спасибо за это ❤
As a construction worker, holy sh-t is your camera work and craftsmanship amazing! Like the Dremel part, right when I thought "gosh this sound is annoying" is right when you cut it out. You've earned a sub 🤟
I subscribed the very first time I came across his work.
How is you working construction the slightest bit relevant here? That’s akin to saying, “well as a short order cook, your suit is well-tailored.” Completely unrelated.
@@aaqilian5.085 why do I even have to explain my comment to you? Construction is hands-on and he's doing a hands-on project. His restoration and camera work is very good and all I was saying is from what I've seen in my time as a tradesman this was awesome to watch and he definitely has skills. Thanks tho??
@@aaqilian5.085Construction workers construct, destruct, and restore things too. Not to mention they often work with wood and use a lot of the same tools he does. So I would say OP being a construction worker has relevance here.
My dad is a general contractor and owns a commercial construction company. I’ve seen him use many of the same tools on his sites as this guy does in his restoration work.
@@aaqilian5.085 : What is the point of this criticism? How is it the slightest bit relevant to the video? It's always nice when someone in a related field gives you a compliment. Oh, and I see no reason why a short-order cook can't appreciate a well-tailored suit.
As I saw you scrape off that top piece of paint I was thinking, "oh my god please keep it" and you did so much more. 🥺 This is my favorite project of yours so far, I'm so emo- that was too sweet!
Высшей степени Молодец!!!

The tool I find works the best is simply called a veneer edge trimmer. It's a piece of plastic with a 90 degree corner and a blade that cuts as you run it along the length of the piece. I think you can get them for like $5USD. Great looking piece by the way.
Love your work! What I love is you try to restore, preserve, and reuse everything. You are truly clever in your approach to your restorations. When that paint peeled off in a roll I thought ‘that might make a cool picture’ - so glad to see it as one. I also love that you film little creatures like lady bugs! Cant wait to see what you do with the other piece you bought home at the same time.
You summed up what I wanted to say. 🙂
Same here.
🤔 - Yup, me too...
This channel is the ONLY thing, and I mean the O N L Y thing, that has made me miss construction even a little bit
I subscribed after viewing the first video. I love watching restorations of almost anything. But the gifts and talents of this artist are amazing. This is fast becoming my very favorite ‘watch’! And the little extra additions such as the lady bug in this video are so enjoyable. He is a master at filming and at restoring furniture. Framing the original epoxy paint swirls from the top of the dresser was also genius.

It's hard to believe that is the same dresser that you started out with! Saving the paint from the top of the dresser to frame as art was a really nice touch. Amazing work. Thank you for sharing this bit of awesomeness with us! 😊
This whole video is me trying to scrape the paint of my pallete 🎨 😂
I loved everything about this video. The way you inserted humor and nature but no music. Stopping to admire the smoothness of a piece you had been sanding…perfection. And seeing you straighten the stack of scraps on the shelf before returning to work was magic. There was a lot of thoughtfulness in your process, and I want to see more.
Oh, yeah, and the dresser turned out great! Love what you did with the handles.
I'd never have thought of making handles from a frame. You're like the Paul McCartney of furniture with stuff like this. Simple but brilliant. Seems obvious now you've done it, but it just tickled me. That was a serious amount of paint and I love that you went and framed it after. Nothing ever goes to waste with you, and I really love that. Great job as always. I love getting notifications that you've uploaded. I'm always left in awe of your designs, execution and your filming/editing skills. Thanks for all you do. Much love and respect from Ireland.

I have never heard Paul McCartney's name used cross-disciplines like this. This old Beatles fan appreciates it a lot.
This is why I love to watch these videos. Someone uses an out of the box idea like using an old picture frame for handles, and then you can start to see so many other creative things to make handles out of...and so on.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched. In addition to your very obvious skill and craftsmanship, this video is incredibly well filmed and edited. Also, I’m so impressed and delighted by the positivity in the comments. I haven’t seen one mean or rude thing. What a great community! What a great video!
FABULOUS!! Thank you for sharing your amazingly creative talents. Not only was the dresser gorgeous, but framing the "paint art" was a delightful treat, bravo!! 👏👏👍🌞♥️
Ohhhh my god that is the first time I've seen your channel, and I LOVE not only the quality of your work but the soothing, QUIET audio - no irritating voiceover explaining every step. I appreciated this so much, subscribing!
I really love that instead of just painting over the damaged laminate, you applied a beautiful wood veneer and used wood scraps. Makes for a much more durable and timeless piece that can later be refinished if desired. Great job!
My parents restored old furniture to sell at our store, so I'm a little familiar with thr process. There were certain items that my mom wouldn't touch because she knew that they wouldn't sell. This would have been one that she passed by because she didn't have the patience to fix up laminate furniture. I love that you still see the potential that a little patience and care has on an old piece of furniture
This may just be me being a clean wood fanatic, but I think that top looks much better in a frame than on the dresser.
Love the makeover of the dresser. Love the framed "art" beside it. Love that you kept to salvaged materials. And I really love the video, the lady bug, the beautiful sun dappling, the camera angles, the sounds.
Thank you! 😊
The ONLY thing I might've done different is try to figure out a way to make the art reversible, as I also really liked the colors peeking through the black pains! I think both sides were beautiful, and it'd be so cool to have a piece of art that you can just flip for a totally different vibe depending on how you feel like displaying it that day!
Me, now eyeing the busted dresser that's on the corner of our street: 👀👀👀
Seriously though this is amazing!! You brought new life to an obviously loved piece of furniture! Restoring and prolonging the lifespan of something that could've easily just been tossed out. Keep up the great work!! 👍🏻
WOW! I think we can safely assume that the person who poured the paint on it was very, very high. What a restoration. I adore the colour most of all.
😂 suggestions are appreciated-humble Andy. The only other furniture restorer in your league I watch on UA-cam is transcendent furniture and I guarantee she would see the way you do it and think I should try it like that.

I really enjoy watching you transform things from 'destined for landfill' to desirable furniture, you make things look easy (that I know aren't easy) and you film them so expertly and succinctly. And the unexpected laughs - the pointing hand was the one that got me today.
imagine walking past this guys house and, not knowing what he’s doing or what all this is, you just see him cut thin wood with scissors and iron it onto a dresser
So beautiful. My Dad did this type of thing when he was alive. Gives me good memories. And admiration for your work.
This was incredible from start to finish. Looks like a completely different dresser. And well done on using the paint as an art piece. Love all of this. Thank you for a wonderful introduction to your videos. ❤
I always comment the same thing, but I just love how you save bits and pieces of wood, upcycle and reuse. It's a joy to watch! And your videography and editing is great. This video was fun to watch but it must have been a pain to remove all that paint😁. It turned out amazing!
Totally agree
The paint that peeled off the top piece looks like something that one friend who never gets given a blanket would use as a blanket at a sleepover
Absolutely gorgeous! The handles you made really finish the drawers off properly and I love the final colour. Watching you pull the top layer off in one piece was soooo satisfying and I love that you made it into an art piece 👏🏻

Awesome restoration though! Perfection! 👍
You can trim edge banding really well with a flush cut saw or a flat backed rasp!
If you think this is bad you should see the desks in my school's art studio. I've taken to peeling the paint off and it's actually so satisfying. So many layers of years and years and years of paint.
The art teachers at my school blame the older students for constantly making them dirty etc, whilst it's the younger kids that constantly destroy the tables. Bsically: we're the ones that need to clean the tables all the time so we aren't able to peel off paint after a while, which is actually kinda sad
@@yaralaterveer my school's kinda the same haha. we blame the first years for everything and all the teachers blame us for not picking up after them 🤣

Gorgeous finished product, loved that you repurposed the old paint top. So cool!!
Awesome work! You can use a flush cut trim bit on your router. Also if you do the side edge trim first, the top will then cover that edge.

8:27 you can buy a banding tool which makes trimming of the edges all smooth and easy it's a tool that you glide over the edge that you squeeze together to tension to the width of the edge 👍 I hope that makes sense lol
If you can get your hands on a really good, sharp chisel, then you could trim the veneer a little bit easier! I think some veneer companies also make their own little tools for it as well. (Kinda like the tiny screw drivers you get from IKEA sometimes haha)
That is really cool and the framed paint is a great touch. Clever

The piece is awesome and looks so smooth! You made a modern, unrecognizable and pretty dresser out of almost garbage! Thanks so much for sharing
This is by far one of the coolest restorations that I've seen on UA-cam. Use of the picture frame as drawer handles - ingenious. Framing the thick paint top - hilarious! Outstanding presentation! 😃
This was shot and edited to PERFECTION. I was vibin the WHOLE time. And what you did with that paint and resin at the end? JUBILATION. I was so grateful.
I really appreciate that you kept the top paint piece and framed it. That was very kind of you.
As pointed out by everyone already, you are a true artisan. BUT, you are also very playful…..and my wife and I love it!! You have the fastest hammer in the west! I love everything about your videos - the sound effects, the details of the garden space, the side view, the editing. You are a professional film maker. These attributes are something I notice also in Asian drama. The way your hands smooth the wood reveals the tenderness of a true artist. I could never do what you do even though I am fascinated by it. I would be too pleased with "good enough." I can't believe that I have watched two of your renovations in one morning!
First thought watching the multicolour furniture: that would be ok in the wall as a piece of art. Indeed. Thank you for all your videos, you wizard.

UA-cam recommended this video. I didn't know I needed it in my life. Great work!
Love how this is so beautifully filmed. The shots look so clean and very nice to see (which can be hard while working with wood), but the ones with the flowers and ladybug etc also look amazing.
You can clearly see the effort put in these videos!
Absolutely stunning and the fact you made the paint job top into a painting to go with it aesthetically is absolutely incredible! 100/10 for me, keep up the awesome work! ❤
The effort put into both the restoration, the cinematic shots, and the editing really shines through. Your work is amazing!!! ❤
As a suggestion....in the future I'd suggest when putting the veneer wood on the top, you put the sides on first, trim them and then put the top veneer on. That method "captures" the side veneers and reduces that change of tearing an edge during normal day to day use.
Hands Down, Best Project Yet!
