I just bought a 1080P OLED for my LCD called decksight . It ships in may. Way better than the real OLED. Apparently will work at 80 or 90 hertz as well.
I think a lot of the negative opinions you get about the Steam deck from people is because they didn't get the Steam deck and instead chose to get the Legion Go, Ally, MSI Claw or whatever. But they are all great platforms and everyone has different needs when it comes to a handheld. I have the Steam Deck OLED and love it but if I had paid almost 1000 dollars for an Ally then I would probably say the Ally is the best. You know what I mean?
I have the legion go (had it for a few days) and the deck lcd since may and I really love the deck a lot Now the legion I’m loving it too also since it’s more powerful and bigger screen and can play anything but ofc it runs windows so u have to do extra stuff to make it work right. Only thing is the battery is really bad on the legion go which is expected ofc. They both have there purposes

The deck isn’t powerful but depending on the type of games you play it a great handheld with way better battery life (ofc depends on the games) the deck can’t play certain games though so that’s sucks (which is why I gotten the legion) The deck is more simple to use too. If it had more power it would be golden. And Linux isn’t as bad to use just have to do some minor tweaks ofc Now for the legion as of right now I got it running in big picture it’s not perfect but it gets the job done.
As someone who owns a steam deck and a legion go while they might be both handhelds one is a gaming laptop replacement and the other is a dedicated gaming hand-held. With windows and steamOS they both compliment each other so well.

I own steamdeck and ROG ally. They both have their good points. But my LCD steamdeck will be my new favourite when I drop in an OLED screen.I have a PC as well 4080 Super but still bought a Rog Ally.
The steam OS is pretty amazing as well, also developers are optimizing games specifically for the steam decks hardware which makes runs games even better.
Exactly also emulation is very underrated. And the steam deck is getting so much support with cryo utilities and frame gen mods that it can actually handle newer games if you need it too
@ for sure so many classic psp ps2 games I want to play Then a long list of newer games as well Top three on my list is the Batman Arkham games The Witcher And this snowboarding game that is a core memory stuck in my mind think it was call sxx snowboarding highly remember playing that on the game cube
The battery is amazing compared to the ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go, you’ll get about 50 minutes of high end gameplay on the Legion Go which is utter trash and why I returned mine, I think im gonna get a steam deck OLED because what good is better performance if you can only play for 40 minutes at a time, I can work out for longer than that lol I also like what you said about emulation, I want to get into the older Zelda and Metroid games so the Steam Deck with the beautiful screen and great battery life seems like a nice pick for me
The Steam deck has been described as the backlog killer. I’m a console gamer with no time to play my console and I’ve played so many games I’ve never heard of which don’t appear on the PlayStation or Switch.
Same place in regards to what I wanted in a handheld system. Gaming rig and consoles out the arse too.😅 This gen of consoles is my last for several reasons. No reason to hand these companies my hard earned cash for proprietary hardware when their games will be out on PC or on a streaming service. Subscribed.
Hey buddy, look into adjusting TDP on your steam deck to save on battery. It'll really save you a ton of battery. Basically you can drop how much power the system is taking for each game. You watch your frame rate and drop your TDP and once you start to see the frame rate drop add a watt or 2 to be safe and you can sometimes double your battery life. Also you can set your screen refresh rate lock it to 40-45 on games that aren't always hitting 60 and you'll have a better experience and battery. Even playing a game that doesnt need a fast frame rate say a chess game where the screen is mostly the same you can drop the refresh rate down to 15 fps and save even more battery. Most games you can set to low settings and not really notice a difference on the small screen. Then with your emulation make a retroachievements login. It adds achievements to all the old games. They're really creative achievements too not the basic ones we get on steam, playstation, and xbox. They're created by other users and are constantly adding more games; achievements go all the way up to gamecube and below. Enjoy your OLED I've had my LCD for over 2 years now and I still play it everyday.
I have a pc with a 4090. The steam deck is pretty incredible. If I'm gonna play a serious fps or something then yeah I'm gonna play on pc for sure but the steam deck is perfect for indy games and is just really really well rounded
got both Ally X and OLED deck. Both for two reasons. Ally X- for online gaming on the go. no restrictions, anti-cheats and all that b.s just gaming to your hearts content. dualbooting bazzite is the creame de la creame. cause I dislike windows. OLED- for AAA solo gaming & emulation on the go. better ergonomics and it just works! Rog Ally X maybe the best, but OLED will always be my favorite
Yea I know the ally is obviously the stronger piece of tech and I respect that. But the oled steam deck does exactly what I need it to do. That’s why i personally went with that
Actually the Xbox Series X/S is a great platform for emulation. You need to go into developer mode but it works great from what I've seen and Microsoft is allowing it.
This is what pc gaming is about too bad people dont see it, but your just not gone get bored gaming on pc, there is just so many ways to play soooooo many games, at the cheapest price u have ever seen, so buying a pc is not expensive once you are in that eco system you will see

If you know anything about pcs then you’d know that a portable handheld pc with 16 GB of RAM in 2025 is a bad investment in the future. A steam deck could only be seen as a must buy for console gamers & casual gamers looking to get into pc gaming who have little to no experience with PCs. It is a gaming pc on training wheels & that is its primary appeal, but it is way too underpowered. Criminally underpowered. Like buying a switch in 2025, only the upper end steam deck costs a lot more. You could at least say that an embarrassing outdated switch is at least cheaper than other stuff.
That’s assuming I’m gonna be using it for the next 3 years or something. I didn’t buy the steam deck to get into PC gaming I already have a high end PC. I mentioned I wanted to add games to my steam library that i otherwise wouldn’t have like older RPGs which the steam deck is perfect for and use it for emulation on the go. It’s all about use case. In two years the steam deck two will be even better and more powerful.

Yessir just ordered mine today basically for the same reasons as you don’t really want to play many new games there’s so many games I missed out on.

Exactly I have a beast PC as well that is built for more demanding titles. The steam allows me play solo RPGs and emulation on the go.
