Man oh man, the Steam Deck has been a massive boost for my gaming. I got mine at the tail end of July and according to my Steam Replay it’s already accounted for 84% of my playtime this year
Good review. 👍 The fact that SteamOS is Linux-based was a major factor behind my decision to purchase the OLED Steam Deck a year ago. Getting away from Windows is a good choice for people to make. Actually putting the Deck and its trackpads to use absolutely reaffirmed my decision.

Thanks for the informative video. I've been seriously considering getting a steam deck lately. I am a big fan of the Linux OS and Valve has done the most good work toward making gaming possible on Linux, so there is one reason for me to get one. I'll admit that I don't like Steam because of the software that must run on my PC in order to use it. Same for GoG Galaxy btw. I installed GoG a couple weeks ago to keep No Mans Sky updated, since there are so many updates on that game. Uninstalled it the same day, drives me nuts. I don't have a Steam account at the moment, so no games in my library, but I do have 260 games on GoG currently. If I do get the steam deck, I will purchase some games for it, but I probably won't play those games on PC. The second big reason for me to get a "deck" is to play racing games, since GoG don't have very many good racing games. Also I've seen some good space games that are not available on GoG that I would most likely enjoy playing. As far as handheld hardware goes, it will definitely NOT have Windoze as the OS. I would love to get rid of Microsoft all together on my PC's as well, but there are many software programs that I use for graphics design that are probably never going to run on Linux. My hatred for Windows only increases on a daily basis, but I love some of the software that I've paid A LOT of money for, so I'm stuck using it on at least one computer for now. If Valve makes a Steam OS for PC I will build a gaming rig just for that, fingers crossed.

Just got mine. Enjoying playing games I wasn’t able to play for a long time. My last console was a ps4 and none after that. So I have a lot of games I have in mind that I will play on my SD. Persona 5 comes to mind for starters
You missed one of the biggest groups of people who should get one - since having kids my playtime has been dramatically reduced and its hard to find even an hr to play something until they are sleep, but with the screen off "pause" i'm able to steal smaller chunks of time to play games without having to try to get back into the actual gameplay through menus and what not
I just ordered mine and waiting for it to come 😊 I don’t have a gaming pc/laptop and don’t plan to buy, and my asus zenbook of 8 years cannot load even the easiest games I have in steam. So steamdeck is a perfect solution for me to come back to my favorite games ❤
I think anyone should buy a steam deck, I think overall it is just great to have a handheld pc. Personally I had the choice to go with Rog Ally extreme because i could buy it in my country. Rog Ally is superb but something went wrong with it and so now I am moving on to Rog Ally x. I think this is the best handheld PC and it's at least superior to the steam deck in most aspects but yeah I think both of them are great and are an almost essential tool especially for gamers.

I advise anyone wanting to purchase one to get one as cheap as humanly possible. Like get a refurbished 64gb from GameStop. The reason I say go cheap is because while the device is great, you’re paying a lot of money for its form factor. Which is fair don’t get me wrong. But at the end of the day, you’re dropping $400 on a device that’s weaker than a $300 Xbox series S. Which is reasonable considering that it’s a handheld. @@EggEnjoyer While purely looking at performance they're the same, there are many upgrades in the OLED. The wifi is faster so you're games are downloaded quicker, the RAM is faster, the battery is bigger, the APU is more efficient, the fan is bigger and quieter, the screen is brighter and therefore more suited for outside use. Battery life is 30% better. My reasoning is, if I'm going to drop so much cash on a device, I don't want the half assed one. 2H battery life is just too little playing AAA games. The prices difference is €140, so for most people, if you can save up two months extra, that might be worth it. @@EggEnjoyer That's totally valid bro, I guess I just wanted the shiniest version of the new toy. Secretly I already made up my mind and I'm trying to justify it. In the end, it's not about the hardware but the games we play. I hope I didn't waste my money on the OLED version, it's coming in a few days.
Still don't think it's for me - too big, too heavy and don't really care for PC gaming. I'll take a regular home console or smaller handheld every time. Yes, I have a steam library with quite a few games but I never play them... I do like Linux and have been running it on various boxes since you used to have to recompile your kernel to get a GUI running.
I just bought one 2nd hand £290 64gig, got a 256gid memory card. I have an Xbox one from back in the day. I have a 6 year old so have better things to do these days but do like to play the games I did back in the day from the 360 generation. I usually use quacked games (I don't endorse piracy) but most of my games are old outdated ones like cod world at war and battlefield 3 these are what I play not online obviously, I did however just purchase Hogwarts Legacy from the steam store which I play from time to time because of reasons stated above. I'll happily pay for AAA games if they take my fancy. I'm not a pc gamer but the steam deck makes it easier to play the old games I loved playing an the odd newer title. Grab one if you can. I don't even really play emulated old systems via emulation as as great as those old systems are I'm just older and don't feel the need to play those old systems anymore. And yeah Linux took some time to figure out but I can make my way through it now.👍
@EggEnjoyer yeah I think that's the issue. Trying to put as many games on the system that memory will allow regardless if you play them or not. I got battlefield 3, played for a while but like all games from the past yeah it's great to play but in the long run it's not 2013 anymore and things (life I mean) has moved on and sometimes leaving things in the past is the best way.
I have had the Deck since June the year it came out. I upgraded to the OLED when it came out. It is the only thing I play. I play my PS5 and Series X remotely with the deck. Best thing ever made.
I don't use my oled SD much. Its too heavy The Nintendo Switch light is perfect, well, if it had an oled screen and a bigger battery Still I prefer games on the Switch Not really into AAA games Switch 2 should get it close to being perfect
I just started building my own PC and the money is still being wasted on it, so I don’t think I will get steam deck myself but it is an awesome console actually

@@ancoloco Do you want to play GTA 6 on the go with not so great graphics or do you want to play GTA 6 with decent graphics but at home or a desk? My answer is the steam deck but both aren’t bad purchases whichever way you decide to go
Do you have anything else to game on? If not I suggest the ps5. The reason being that while the steam deck is great and is powerfully for what it is, it is not strong enough to run all the latest games. So if you’re looking forward to the best games, especially games like GTA V, you’ll need a ps5. If you play mostly older games. Games from 2020 and below, you’ll have a blast on steam deck. Not to say it can’t run any modern games. It just can’t do it too well. It really depends on what kind of gamer you are. I play a lot of old games even on my console. So the steam deck is perfect for me. If you play mostly newer stuff, I’d suggest the PlayStation for you. I know you said you only want one console but I’d suggest you get the steam deck at a later date after your ps5. Maybe buy a used one and try it out

@@yahyandanusa7834 I have an ROG Ally X as well but there’s too many updates and crashes I’ve experienced plus windows on a portable handheld is just not good for me but I’ll agree to disagree
No. It's now a dated handheld and cannot play current triple A titles. Consider the ROG Ally or MSI Claw. I've had my SD for two years. Nothing but continuous issues with games, framerates and crashes. It uses what they call proton layers to allegedly fix various issues but I've not found that to be the case. Games may be verified or playable but Steam don't tell you how to install updated game launchers and don't consider fixing these out of the box so you're invariably left with games that won't run. I've lost no end of money reaching this conclusion. I honestly think it's a handheld designed for Guinea pigs or those with more money than sense. If I could roll back the last few years I would never have wasted my hard earned. I so wanted this to be a good portable PC but unless you want to constantly faff around with settings more than actually enjoying a game, steer well clear. UA-cam reviewers seem to look upon the device as the best thing since sliced bread. Trust me. It isn't.

And yeah Linux took some time to figure out but I can make my way through it now.👍
You’re gonna need a bigger memory card, ask me how I know 😂
Get a bigger memory card and swap out the internal ssd, it’s quick and easy
@EggEnjoyer I know I thought 256 was big but to be fair if I simply play the games I've got to completion then I can delete them and get more.
@ Great mindset that I should adopt.
I’m already falling into the steam trap of buying every $10 game I see 😫
@EggEnjoyer yeah I think that's the issue.
Its too heavy
The Nintendo Switch light is perfect, well, if it had an oled screen and a bigger battery
Still
I prefer games on the Switch
Not really into AAA games
Switch 2 should get it close to being perfect
@@Roboto-z8z Maybe valve will make a “lite” version but yeah hopefully the switch 2 won’t be a console generation behind.
I just started building my own PC and the money is still being wasted on it, so I don’t think I will get steam deck myself but it is an awesome console actually

Ex console gamer. Honestly regret spending so much money on console. Since getting a Steam deck it’s a whole new much cheaper world. No regrets
@@trumpetmasta92 Especially cheaper in the long run
@ With how many games I bought on sale on my steam deck with the winter sale, it’s already paid for itself and plus some. I’m I’ve already rebought some games I got on my Xbox just because they’re so cheap.
do you think lcd is worth it for a 15 yr old, i dont have a lot of money to work with 400 is all i have right now?
@@SelaryBs yep I’d go for it only if your comfortable spending that much
I bought mine bc I like the portability but got tired of the switch so I got the steam deck and it replaced my Xbox series s as well as my switch surprisingly plus steam games are always on sale and super cheap to begin with

So awesome some really good games for stupid cheap

I want to spend money just once on a console. It’s either the PS5 Pro (for GTA6 next year) or the Steam Deck Oled. Help me choose.
Maybe buy a used one and try it out
*_Yes._*
Got one sitting under the tree (512 OLED). I’ve got RDR2, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Forza Horizon 4, Mad Max, and Stray ready to go.
Thoughts on which to play first? Thinking RDR2 as I’ve heard nothing but glowing reviews
I’m happy for you bro. I just got mine the other day and I’m enjoying 100%
Red Dead 2 is awesome but make sure you’re connected to the internet first
Personally start with hogwarts legacy but it’s a bit unoptimized so gonna have to fiddle with the settings a bit so rdr2 is as good a place as any to start and I recommend installing cryoutilities there are plenty of tutorials on how to do that it does help a lot

Steam deck is garbage compared to the Asus rog ally x
@@yahyandanusa7834 I have an ROG Ally X as well but there’s too many updates and crashes I’ve experienced plus windows on a portable handheld is just not good for me but I’ll agree to disagree
I already have one lol
Nice! How are you liking it?
@jfiggy7145 I've had it for 1½ years. It's the best console ever. I love it
Trust me. It isn't.
@@NcboreasVapes That’s fair I did say it can’t play everything but if you don’t mind me asking what triple A games are you referring to? Launchers are a pain as is so I agree with you on that point.
