I thought he was the weakest part of this performance. He completely lost it a few times. His original performance, on the record, was great though. So it's forgivable. ;) :)
David Gilmour's vocals are fantastic. We hear these tunes as kids, and don't really realize the level of talent we are listening to. We covered this tune in our band, and this is what brought me here. It looks like he still has to think about playing and singing this particular tune. This is not an easy one to just pick up and play. The timing has to be perfect on the vocal. If you you miss one spot you have to start it all over.
True. Some bands can be a bit disappointing when they play live later in their careers. But they nailed it here, especially Gilmour who was fantastic, but everyone else too. Even the cash register sounded fresh.
Note that David Gilmour plays the same black Statocaster as he did during the recording of the Dark Side of the Moon in 1972, though it was 33 years later!
Money was actually recorded using another guitar. The fender only has 21 frets, he needed at least 22 for Money since he does a bend in the solo from the 22nd fret. I think the one he used actually had 24. Compare the original solo to what he does here at 4:31 , he can’t reach that high bend on the black strat.
@@OddityDK Interesting suggestion. Maybe he just didn't want to bend up to that note at a live gig: "ping!" - not what you want a string to do in front of a live audience of millions :-) Or have you read somewhere he used a different guitar in the studio? To me, the studio solo sounds more like a Tele, but that would have had 21-frets back in the '70s too.
The Brits, hundreds of thousands of them, suddenly staying quiet in front of such magnificence and emotion to appreciate the band's craft, shows exactly why their nation was great enough to produce such artists.
