    Hi from the UK. From what I understand - when you are in ketosis your body is using the ketones to feed your brain, heart etc it will only send excess/unwanted ketones to your pee so the pee sticks only measure these. If the pee stick reading is low then your body is using your ketones in the correct place. Hope this helps - keep going you are inspiring so many people.

    • @adorableadornments1101

      I was thinking the same thing. The whole purpose of eating this way is to make ketones to feed your brain and muscles.

    • @jamielivingston7765
      @jamielivingston7765 8 місяців тому

      You are in ketosis if you have ANY measurements of ketones and you aren't taking exogenous ketones.

      You need to measure your ketones by your blood , pee is not a food measure after a while .

    I did an all meat way of eating 12 years ago. I did it for two years. I lost 110 pounds. Doctors didn’t like me on it back then they really pushed the pyramid diet. I kept eating only meat. My labs came back excellent everything bad numbers went way down. The funny thing about it all was I was friends with my doctors nurse. I told her what I was doing she said Deb… as ur friend keep going but as ur nurse… I didn’t hear a dam thing you just said. Lol 12 years later that statement STILL makes me laugh. Lol keep going and do what you believe in 💖

    Lifelong acne sufferer here too. Carnivore was a huge surprise with regard to skin repair. Around the same time I started using Dermaharmony Zinc Therapy soap so I can't say for sure which had the greatest impact but both did something and now my skin is better than its ever been!

    You guys are awesome. I started carnivore because of you guys. I saw your video when you started so I did all my research and decided to give it a try. I am 2 weeks behind you and have lost 35 pounds and feel great. I was on keto before this so it was easy to start for me. The biggest problem I had with keto is all the keto snacks that kept me wanting sweets and carbs. Now I do not crave anything but steak... I do the OMAD during the week while I am at work and never get hungry. Keep up the videos I really enjoy watching them and they help to incourage me through this way of eating.

I did 2 days OMAD and stayed in ketosis and 2 days I did 2 meals and back out! Tomorrow is going to me a OMAD I think. 🤞🏼 So glad you joined us on this journey! Interesting you were already keto and then lost 35lbs that fast on carnivore! Were you losing equally fast on keto? (Wondering for Erica if she heads that direction later)

      Seems like i have heard that if you get too much protein, then you would go out of ketosis. I have lost weight quickly on Keto in the past, but now with all the Keto snacks and breads i don't lose as quickly. then i would fall off the wagon for a couple of weeks and gain all the weight back. Carnivore is just so much easier, i always know what i am going to eat, don't have to track anything and it usually only takes 10 min. to prepare. And who doesn't like a big steak for dinner. I listen to Shawn Baker and he is adjusting his macros to get into deeper ketosis for healing an injury he has. i believe he is adjusting his protein and fat intake to accomplish this.@@StevenSteph

    Steph, i had a colonoscopy in May, i had a 30 mm polyp, couldn't remove it during the procedure. I had to go to a Surgeon. I had to have a hemicolectomy. That means they had to remove the right side of my
    Colon, attaching it to my small intestine. Had I not got the colonoscopy, i would have had full blown cancer in a year or less.
    I am 76 yrs old did really well after the surgery. So remind all your friends and family to get their tests done. It had been 10 yrs since I had
    A colonoscopy. I had never had a polyp, and always went when they sent me a letter. So happy all is working out for y'all. God bless.❤🙏🙏

    I wish I could do this. Especially for my special needs adult son. He loves meat. He is very obese. We just don’t have enough money to buy meat all the time. Sometimes I get good meat from the free food pantry. I scant eat a lot of meat because I have no bottom teeth. Being on a fixed income is hard. Please don’t think I’m not blessed and I choose joy no matter what. I know the Lord takes care of us. My faith is very strong so I’m blessed beyond measure. I’m so happy for Steve that his Autoimmune disease is getting better. I will pray for you both and also for Puddy. Love you all. ❤

    So happy that you have found something that works for you, it is so hard sometimes to find the right combination of foods. I know from experience the inflammation is so hard to deal with, those processed foods are so bad. They suck out anything that is good for you and replace it with man made alternatives just so your body craves more (it's all about the sales)

    Hey Steve n Steph. I just wanted to comment on two things you all talked about, just in case anyone else ponders the same questions you've raised. Mosquitos love type A blood. Also, your bug bite issues may have decreased because, by virtue of your high meat intake, you've increased your Vitamin B levels. Always check with your physician or pharmacist, but those who suffer from the bites could try a Vit B Complex (B6 and B12) to see if that helps. While they may have studies that don't find a link between B1 (thiamin) reducing bites, before retiring I used to recommend B Complex to those visiting our area during our high noseeum (midge) season and they had tremendous success at eliminating their bites.
    Steph - If you're not specifically looking to lose weight by reducing your own fat stores, then you shouldn't always have high ketone readings. That isn't the intent of the carnivore diet. Those first going on a low-to-no carb diet may enter into ketosis, but that's usually the goal of a ketogenic diet. By entering into ketosis, it lowers your blood pH level and causes your blood to become more acidic. To counter this, the body may be leaching calcium from your bones. Additionally, it may increase your uric acid, which can lead to kidney stones. For this reason, anyone with kidney damage shouldn't attempt to achieve ketosis. You've stated that you're neither following this diet for weight loss, nor are you diabetic, so I wouldn't concentrate on higher ketone readings or driving your body to start feeding on it's own fat reserves. If you are maintaining a perfect balance between protein and fat consumption, you aren't gaining weight, you're well hydrated, and you have plenty of energy to burn, it sounds like your body was doing exactly what it was supposed to prior to the intermittent fasting. I hope this makes sense.

    gluconeogenesis! Several of our organs need a wee bit of glucose at all times. Our body makes it (gluconeogenesis) as long as we are still under about 35 yo or it will make it continuously if we never got used to eating sugar on a regular basis.
    If we spent many years of eating fairly high carbs, our body relies on us to continue that practice.
    So, if suddenly, after many years we consume basically 0 carbs, we can get into trouble. There are symptoms that let us know we need some carbs. The symptoms can be lightheadedness especially in the morning, weak knees, a dull headache... it depends on the individual. I have found that 1/2 teaspoon of honey in the morning makes me feel so much better. And it seems to me, I don't even notice it in my body except I feel better. It does not create any cravings, it just makes my body work so much better.

    We use White Pepper because it is low in oxalates and it has great flavor. You can buy whole berries and grind which we do but our favorite use is to mix 1/3 fine ground white pepper with 2/3 part good salt. It is a great seasoning mix. Congrats to you both for doing so great!

    I enjoy watching you two with the Carnavore diet. It's not often we get to see how a diet like this actually works, like with body changes, appetite changes, and how it makes you feel. It's like seeing an experiment happening before our eyes. Me being a former microbiology lab tech, l like experiments. Steph, with all your new gadgets, it will make it fun to chart your results. I do have one of those glucose readers, but I haven't used it in months. I should be checking my glucose, since I'm also doing an experiment to keep my glucose in normal range with Glucoberry pill that I take daily.

    Congrats, Erica! So happy for you! Steve is 100% correct, go to the doctor, don't live in fear of "what if". My sister was diagnosed w/breast cancer, invasive ductal carcinoma and has had to have a mastectomy and hysterectomy within 3 weeks of each other and now doing chemo all because she avoided doctors and mammograms out of fear/embarrassment. Fortunately despite needing radical surgery, she was lucky she's stage 3 not stage 4, and they are talking "cure" for her. She's doing great on her chemo and few (very tolerable) side effects, so lots of hope, but preventative medicine is important.

    The optimum level of ketosis is between 1.5 and 5. Whatever you are reading on your breath meter is not measuring the ketones in the same measurements as the Keto Mojo. One is breathe ketones, one is blood ketones. Both are different, but probably mean the same thing.

I am wondering if I also need to add more fat. Gonna give it a try. Also Goya Adobo seasoning is pretty clean - salt, tumaric, and pepper. We are all different and maybe try that one, 0 sugars.

    Pee strips are only good in the beginning it only read ketones not being use and if you are in ketosis, which if your carnivore you are in ketosis. Watch Dr Berry. And the Breathe a lizard only works if you actually do it correctly and it's hard to do it properly you have to make sure to get all of the air out of your lungs before doing your breath. The best way to check your keytones if you wanna know is with yes the mojo reader or any device that reads your blood levels. Do more reach, If you're doing carnivore and or no carbs you are definitely in ketosis and using ketones but ketones are not just used for weight loss they are your energy source. If you want to recycle your cells though that is all done with autophagy which is achieved by fasting, has nothing to do with being in ketosis.

  • @grannyanne1000

    Sorry I lost the feed. Anyway I stopped most restaurants and processed foods and very low carbs less than 49 grams a day. My blood sugar dropped from diabetic range to a normal 7 and I lost 40 pounds. I do eat fruit like blueberries and figs and raspberries cause we grow them no pesticides and the vegetables we grow like green beans cabbages rape a green leafy plant and kale etc.for two weeks I craved the snacks an processed foods and sugar and the substitutes. I am not craving anymore. We eat large portions of meat and smaller portions of the fruits and Vegies so we aren’t true carnivore but we feel and look good.and I really am proud of my numbers.

    Ketones are produced when there is not enough glucose to burn for energy. Protein can be partially converted into glucose and this is likely the reason you are not in ketosis. A ketogenic diet is a very high fat very low carb and little to moderate protein. Carnivore is high protein and thus not really a ketogenic diet.

    Ketosis is a popular low-carb weight loss program. In addition to helping you burn fat, ketosis can make you feel less hungry. It also helps you keep muscle. For healthy people who don't have diabetes and aren't pregnant, ketosis usually kicks in after 3 or 4 days of eating fewer than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day

    You can buy the SUPER cheap BAC breathalyzers. Like $10!or so. As long as you dont have alcohol it will measure the acetone in your breath which is a byproduct of BURNING ketones. Which tells you more than blood or pee because those measure what ketones you have that you did NOT burn. Make sense?

    Great video! Here in Largo Florida, I am carnivore 118 days. I am loving it and mirroring alot of others amazing benefits. Havent tested mosquitos or sunburning yet. The darker the pee strip the more ketones in your urine , the deeper in ketosis you would be. A fat adapted person would register a low amount amount of ketones ,as you were. The beige color means you are not in ketosis. Does Steve make color on stick after blowing a 0? If blow meter says he is not in ketosis, then pee stick should be negative or no color change,I would think.

    I am confused about the ketone thing. The internet says "As your body breaks down fat, it produces a compound called ketones. The ketones, or ketone bodies, become your body and brain's main source of energy. The fat your body uses to create ketones may come from your diet (nutritional ketosis), or it may come from your body's fat stores."

    I'm so glad that y'all can do this carnivore diet. I really wish I could too, however in the last couple of years I have managed to lose a total of 205 lbs so far with lots of fasting & eating a lot less food than ever before. It was a situational thing. I'm physically disabled, unable to find work. So I have ZERO income whatsoever. So that also means that I have NO money for food. I take whatever food that I have & ration it out to make it last much longer than it normally would. I tried to get food stamps but... Get this... I didn't qualify because I could not PROVE that I had NO income. I showed that my bank account was seriously in the red. I showed that all my utility bills were way past due. I showed that I had to cancel doctor appointments because I didn't have money to put gas in a car to get there. I can't walk to even try to get to a bus station to use public transit service. Etc, etc, etc. Long STUPID sob story short... I lost a lot of weight without even being physically able to exercise... 205 pounds so far & still going. I did want to make mention though that I've been seeing my doctors quite regularly because of several medical conditions & they ALL completely MISSED the fact that I have had a SERIOUS heart condition for quite a while, years in fact. I have something called Bradycardia where my heart beats so extremely slow that it almost stops. I also have 2 of my 4 heart valves that leak. Gotta just love that, right? Only found this out because I was having pre-operative tests done so that I could get my hip replaced & now I can't. The doctors say that I will probably need to get a pacemaker before I can get the hip replaced. Definitely DON'T wait to see your doctors. You ALWAYS want to catch something, especially if it's real bad when it's early on in it's progress so hopefully it can be stopped or fixed. Little did I know during my last hip replacement of my other hip that I had what is called a "silent heart attack." Nobody told me. Gotta just LUV that, now don't ya?!!! 😣

    • @susanpriddy740
      @susanpriddy740 8 місяців тому

      You need to have your doctors to document all their findings so you can get approved for social security disability. It takes at least two or three times being turned down before they will really consider reading your entire file enough to know if you really have a disability. Make sure that your doctor puts a letter in your file that spells out the fact that your heart could stop at any time with no warning and that you are 100% incapacitated. Where you are unable to perform any job. Make note of all your doctors visits and how many and tests and test results and the situation with your hip and the fact that you can't even have hip surgery due to your dangerous heart condition. Someone will finally listen. I'll be praying for you.

    • @tclark7802
      @tclark7802 8 місяців тому

      @@susanpriddy740 Thank you, but would you believe I don't qualify for disability because of my 5 yr recent work history. I had to quit my regular full time job to take care of my mother full time. She had disabilities & dementia. I took care of her til she died. Because I do not have a recent "valid" work history, I don't qualify for disability for myself now & I really tore myself up even more with lifting my mother as much as I had to until I i just couldn't lift her by myself any more. I'm really quite a mess. The reason I need my hips replaced is because I have avascular necrosis meaning there is no longer blood supply to that joint & it can break at any time because it has gotten so bad just waiting because I'm jumping through all the hoops for the state health insurance. I thank you very much for the prayers.
