My father's one and only experience with Morrowind was thus:
He got pretty far into the game (obviously didn't do the Divayth Fyr's quest to get 100% immunity to disease) and during some quest he got the vampiric disease. Morrowind being Morrowind didn't tell him how to cure it unless he found a specific book and this made him rage quit it.
Fast forward to Oblivion and my poor ol' dad's first foray into the game lead him to a cave... which contained vampires.
He hasn't touched an Elder Scroll game since.

Being a vampire in oblivion is pretty neat if you have a high sneak skill which grants you the freedom to feed wherever, whenever, on whomever. But the biggest problem I have with it is the absolutely horrid face texture it gives you. If I played oblivion at launch and got vampirism, without the mod nullifying the facial morph, I would have definitely rage quit too.

Ahh, when vampirism was an actual curse. That sun damage is ridiculous and dipping into caves all the time to wait until nightfall is a pain, but it truly is the vampire experience. Also, Elton brand is too op that it becomes boring. I like the spear of bitter mercy you get from sheogorath’s quest but I like spears in general. Also also, morrowind vampires were the coolest because there were vampire clans, and depending on what clan of vampire turned you, you’d get different quests from different clan leaders and different stats would be boosted.

    • @NWolfsson

Yeah, even in Oblivion if you stepped out in the Sun or forgot and waited outside you'd go "FUCK!" and go to safety quickly...

    • @smocloud
      @smocloud 2 роки тому +1

@@NWolfsson or when you fast travel at night and you’re at vampirism stage 4, and get there midday, you forgot you haven’t fed so you immediately wait so you can start a quest, and you just die.
And don’t get me started on Morrowind. I don’t know how that game didn’t become their standard. Even now it’s the best one of the three I’ve played. Vampirism in that game is no fucking joke. Locks you out of almost everything, it’s 100 or 0 with it since there’s no stages and everyone knows you’re a vampire immediately, npcs trying to kill you in towns, and since essential npcs could actually die in that game you could destroy an entire quest line. I get it, that would be super annoying if it happened by accident and you didn’t know and then you couldn’t finish the quests, but that’s the reason why it’s so awesome. Hell even the dice roll system for the combat grew on me. It was annoying but I went “at least random playable prison person #317 isn’t just godly with everything immediately for no discernible reason. Thats gonna make it fun when theyre actually good as shit at something.” I played Morrowind after playing both Oblivion and skyrim. Oblivion is the one I grew up on so it’s the one I have nostalgia for. But Morrowind is the one I had the most consistent fun with. I hated caves in oblivion and hated them in skyrim. Too bland in oblivion, too many in skyrim. But in Morrowind, maybe it’s because there was no fast travel, maybe it’s because the grind for skill levels was a lot more rewarding, maybe it’s because these random caves sometimes hid the most clever and rewarding of secrets (eliedon’s ward anyone? That room with the boat and the waterfall is gorgeous, too), maybe it was because levitate added a whole new possible dimension of secrets to find in caves, maybe it was all of that, but I would go into about every other random cave I would find for the fuck of it. Damn, now I wanna start a new play through lol. Morrowind best rpg in my book.

Figuring out how to cure vampirism is supposed to be hard in this game. You can do it on your own, but its not easy. You have to actually stop and think in real life and try to work out how to go about doing it. You have to remember there are books on vampire lore in the game. You have to go and find the books, which as you know is not easy. Knowing there are libraries where heretical books are stored is necessary. With those you have to find the hidden texts. and with that, its much simpler.
But you did it the hard way XD If you do know what to do, you can just go straight to the shrine and talk to molag bal. You didn't need to go to the observatory at all. But you could've made it easier by getting infected by vampires in the same clan as the ones who were in the observatory, because then they wouldn't attack you. Yeah, there are three vampire clans. Which one you get infected by determines your stat boosts and which quests you can do.

Morrowind has the Vampiric Clans, some of which I have quests iirc, and of course you have to destroy the rival Clans. Fairly certain you can learn about a cure from some Vampires and other people in game, Divayth Fyr gives hints too I think. That one you Vampire kill during the MQ for one of the Nerevarine title quests will speak with you about it I believe.
PS: if you think you can levitate in a Morrowind ruin, there's probably a reason to.

5:50 That's not a fault, I love the darkness in Morrowind. It gives nighttime and dungeons a spooky atmosphere. I hate how in Oblivion, when you walk in to a cave, there'll be about 100 different spots glowing diffusely from light sources unknown, you'll see far less light coming from actual light sources like torches and holes in the ceiling to the outside. It ruins the immersion and atmosphere. Sometimes, dungeons should be dark. Sometimes, night should be dark. And always, light should have a source.

I remember always getting vampirism and doing a few vampire quests. Plus there are some great items available in the vampire dens. It all felt like a great sub-story to the character. You contract vampirism and have to slum it among the vampires of morrowind. Eventually you get sick of their shit or miss the sun enough to seek out the cure. Gain levels and good loot along the way. Good stuff all around baring how fucking obtuse it all is.
by that point in my first play through of morrowind, I had entirely given up on not using guides online to help me. Like that statue you get the actual cure quest from. You would THINK there is some sorta road out of town to take that would wrap around the mountains. not one easily found. just levitate over the mountains or use water walk and go north along the river. Also by that point in my game I had already picked up that book on vampirism somewhere.
I love morrowind, but I also admit that its just complicated enough that using a guide to help get your retardation to be more in synch with the devs' retardation is just expected.

yeah definitely a game that you need to have a guide on hand for, for atleast your first playthrough or two so you can get the hang of it.
