I used to be a Bf109 main, before I gave another shot to the Fw190 this summer and realised the high speed combat flaps / low speed landing flaps potential. So I started flying them all and here is what I learned. First of all, I will dare to say, the Fw190 are better (yes better) planes than Bf109 in relation to the BR placement.
Fw 190 A-1 - BMW 801 С1 (1360HP)
Fw 190 A-4 / A-5 - BMW 801 D2 (1470HP)
Fw 190 A-8 / F-8 - BMW 801 TU (1470HP)
Fw 190 D-9 - Jumo 213А (1745HP)
Fw 190 D-12 - Jumo-213E1 (1730HP)
Ta 152 H-1 - Jumo-213E1 (1730HP)
Ta 152 C-3 - Daimler-Benz DB-603LA (2100HP)
Fw 190 A-1 (3.0) - Very powerful, borderline OP at 3.0. Not that many planes can go toe to toe with it. Its biggest negative is, that it's placed at rank 2. Worth.
Fw 190 A-4 (4.3) - I don't like this one because of the mixed guns. It's all over the place and it only adds weight. Not worth.
Fw 190 A-5/U2 (4.3) - IMHO the best Fw190 in the game in relation to the BR. It is possible to turnfight zeroes or spitfires with it and win if you utilize high tail maneuvers and play with your throttle and flaps a bit. Only has two 20mm which saves weight, but they are in the wing roots - easy to aim - has plenty of ammo (500). My only gripe with it is that it only has 1 available default skin! WORTH.
Fw 190 A-5 (4.7) - Literally copy pasted FW190 A-4 but 0.3BR higher (because of the 2 rockets?). Not worth.
Fw 190 A-5/U12 (4.7) - Again, just A-4 version but 0.3BR higher (because of the 4 gunpods?). Not worth.
Fw 190 A-8 (5.0) - Not as agile as the A-5 I think, but it still can hold its own even at 5.0 due to +200HP over the previous A versions in WEP. Very good gun setup, the center mounted MG131 are good for setting fires. Worth.
Fw 190 F-8 (5.0) - About the same as the A-8 version BUT it can mount SC1000 bomb, or mk103 cannons or rocket pods. I like this one alot, especially in GRB. Worth.
Fw 190 D-9 (5.0) - The D's are different than the preveious radial engine ones. You gotta play them like the Bf 109, but offer much higher roll speed. D-9 specifically feels like the K-4 but at 5.0. I like it alot. Worth.
Fw 190 D-12 (5.0) - Worse than D-9, but has the same loadout. Just play D-9, it's beter. Not worth.
Ta 152 H-1 (6.0) - The peak of German props. Not the best top speed, but good energy retention. Feels very light and flaps deploy almost instantly, granting very sharp turns. Roll rate suffers because of the longer wings. It has good guns. Sadly no bombs or rockets. WORTH
Ta 152 C-3 (6.0) - This plane is strange and you have to have alot of patience. I love the engine on this thing, you can feel its torque at low speeds, meaning if you utilize vertical stall maneuvers, you will be the king. But if you get anyone on your six, you are dead. In ground RB though? It is my 1st pick because of the mk103 in the nose. It used to be a brick, but it must have recieved a flight model update, because it is a pretty good plane now. Shame it only has 1 default skin. Worth!
Note: I didn't play the D-13 as I don't have it, but on paper it looks like a copy pasted D-9.
I've heard from people in in-game chat that the D-13 climbs a bit better and that the guns are easier to use, but who knows how accurate that is. I'm planning to get it over this sale, but at the very least I can say that everyone I've asked has been impressed with it.
H-1 has been my favorite plane in the game even back before it got an airspawn. Sideclimbing for an hour sucked but was worth it. Plus its sexy so at least you had something nice to look at.

Hey Defyn, I know you are working on covering all of the 'new' "content" that Gaijin has gifted us with, but I'd like to make a small request:
I was wondering if you could make a follow up video on the J-22B since its flight model was updated. I used to play it avidly, but since the change I'm having a hard time figuring it out again. I know the potential is there, I'm just not sure how to unlock said potential.
I found you only recently and have been learning so much from your vids, and I firmly believe you are one of the best WT content creators as far as teaching others goes from explaining tactics and strategies and breaking down aircraft in depth.

I wonder if they used an older flight model for this, because waaay back in the day the Antons used to lock up unless they had above ~30 mins fuel because of the fuel tank placement and centre of gravity.
With a lot of fuel, they used to turn really nicely at speed, but with low fuel they were bricks that compressed into the ground.
Maybe this might pull better with more fuel? Might be worth testing, could be a “mistake” on Gaijin’s part.
It still flips wildly. It is a lot easier to recover with more fuel though.
Once I found this out I do not fly a/f without full fuel. You need it for that extra authority though you do pay for it with needing to be more patient, worth it. I don't know that Def would do that though, there have been several planes we mention fly better with full fuel like the S.199 and I don't think he revisited them, albeit at least in video.

The 190 F8 is a lotta fun with this change, if no fighters throw away all their altitude just to kill you, you can give your team a massive ticket advantage.

I honestly was so looking forward to getting this 190 but I can't exactly say Im thrilled by the passive gameplay required
Ive done a few test flights in this thing in sim and at first it almost felt like it was really badly trimmed and was much more touchy than any other 190. I also noticed that in a dive it practically didnt pull at all past 500kph. Im curious if this thing has a bugged FM unless theres something in the air frame thats causing this

Yea this thing definitely sucks compared to the earlier 190 at tier 2. I was excited to have a badass 190 along with extra firepower but it’s so slow and clunky. Nothing at all like the others.

Also, given some…shall we say, vertical stabilizer implementation issues in the past in regards to specific aircraft (Ho 229 a few years back, and I also remember that before they added the Mirage, they said they were having trouble with the tail interacting correctly with the delta wing when asked about it in a Dev QnA), I wouldn’t be surprised if the flight model for this 190 was implemented unusually given the larger tail.
@@lukeskywalket2894 im thinking the same thing, maybe that old 190 elevator crept in through the spaghetti code cuz if it has a larger elevator youd think it would be able to pull harder. since trimming it out a little though its as twitchy as 190s tend to be but it still takes a lot of elevator to get the nose to rise especially below 350kph and much more so than other 190s almost as if it's excessively nose heavy.
Maybe it's because of the slightly different tail?

Defyn, some of the maps dont have damage models for the tanks, so they are always pretty much a 1 tap, but some maps do have the damage models and you actually have to shoot them in the right spot, i dont know why they did that, but i aint complaining lol
With the new ballistic changes the bullets feel like they have drag chutes, at low altitude you can actually almost overtake the 23mm bullets in the mig23 before they disappear.
Regardin the part where you kill tanks with the air belts - I'm pretty sure that is a thing for most if not all planes that have cannons when you are on maps where the ground AI doesn't have a full damage model. It used be impossible to kill "Heavy Tanks" with 30mm HE rounds - well now I do it on the regular.

Because tech trees don’t pay SL for shit and you’re punished for playing. At least with premiums you make your SL back plus some with at least 1 kill if you die.

I have quite a few premiums but still find tech tree vehicles more fun than premiums most of the time so i agree but the economy of repair cost vs sl gained, later tech tree vehicles are just detrimental to play unless you have prem time

Regarding the tanks blowing up with air belts: It's something I have noticed for quite a while now, I also do it, e.g., with my Vautour and DEFA air belts... seems to be somewhat dependent on the gun/tier/map however, it doesn't work all the time everywhere. While it is silly i feel like it does help to win games against space climbers when you're down on tickets, so I for one won't be complaining about it anytime soon. GL otherwise killing a ton of medium tanks to make up for a ticket disadvantage in something like a FW.
These videos are always super entertaining. I would like to possibly see more US rank 3 and 4 planes. After drone age it seems like a lot of their entries don't do so hot anymore, at least that's the way they feel and would be nice to see some insight on what to do during those tiers.
the way that ive recovered from the flat spin is you pitch down and use ur rudder to go against the spin. More often than naught ive recovered most of the times.

I like how you start the video about the plane, and the more in we get the more it get about how bad the game play is but not because of the plane, because of the players that just cant fly, head on. Seems like that a lot of the experience in the air lately
So maybe a better way to describe this plane other than as a "support plane" would be to call it an "oportunistic plane" in that you need to wait for the opportunity to arise (with proper preperation) to use it successfully.

Personally, I like the Ta-154, because it is the only german twin engine fighter that isn't complete ass. The A8 is just shit, and the F-8 only right to exist is to drop one ton warheads on forheads. And dear god, I wish we had the 190 A-9.

The 190C. Turns amazingly, people see a 190 turn at a low speed and think "free kill", but the 190C out turns most allied planes, while still having great climbing ability and fantastic high altitude performance. Love it.
Nobody talks about it because it's super rare and also expensive.

Hey Defyn. As a newish player to War Thunder who doesn't have all his planes spaded, I was wondering if you'd consider a video series where you start off with a fresh account and go through and spade planes. I know it'd def help out a player like me as most videos pertaining to Air RB are made by expert players with expert crews and spaded planes, which doesn't really help me out much as 1) as previously mentioned, I have so few spaded vehicles and 2) my crews are only in the 10-20 range for planes.
Might help make the grind a little easier if we actually knew what we were doing outaide of dogfighting as well. Your videos already help alot, but dogfighting in a spaded plane vs. non-spaded is very different as characteristics of the planes are obviously very different.
Just a request, I still love your content and learn new things with every video.
Hey, just a quick couple of tips for starting out with planes (assuming Air RB). First, if you find a plane you like and you're good with it, just use that to grind out everything within 1 tier of it ( so if it's a tier 2 you can use it to grind out tiers 1-3 without penalties). Second, for levelling your crew, prioritise your Stamina, then G-tolerance (or whatever it's called, the G-force thing), then vitality or keen sight.
If anyone has different or better advice, feel free to correct/add to this.
La-5FN isn't even available. Maybe it will be during the sale. Even so, I'd just pick something from Rank IV, the way this thing starts tumbling in a stall limits it so much compared to other Fw-190s.

@@Zelectrocutica no arguments there, Yak-1Bs are great. Problem is, it's a Rank II plane, so you can't grind events and most of the Battle Pass with it. Rank II premiums you get for fun, for everyday use it's better to get Rank III+ vehicles.

As you can see the lake was Frozen, so the torpedo was of no use, Let It Go guys.
I'm honestly fine with the German guns being able to murder tanks. Completely unrealistic but so are US .50 cal being able to pen German Leopard 2 AV or strafing a train of 100 waggons and it blowing up like a greek candle.
The trains exploding is entirely dependent upon what is in them. More unstable things like some explosives or rocket fuel will react like that.
@@rainsilent Generally speaking however .... 2 bullets don't do such damage.
@@Leon_der_Luftige 1 .50 will get unstable explosives or rocket fuel to make a very big boom. 1 .50 will also instantly kill water cooled engines if it goes through the engine block. It will also instantly kill a radial if it hits the master cylinder. What the round hits dictates the significance of the damage. Hit something vital and the aircraft is at least crippled.

I'm pretty sure it isn't intentional. I'm also about 90% sure it is because of the HE rounds and the frag effect that they have.

the best 190 in my opinion is the d9, it's an amazing dogfighter compared to the majority of 190s and it has enough engine power to run away in case you mess up because radial 190s are kind of "no mistakes allowed" type of planes
If the 190 doesn't have an interceptor spawn then I'm going to say that the 154 is the better premium for newer players. They have similar climb rates (the 190 has maybe a .3m/s advantage with the 190 carrying full fuel which makes recovering from the tumble fairly quick and easy) and similar turn rates (with the 154 out turning the 190 at low speeds, again with the 190 carrying full fuel). Sure the 190 is around 20mph faster in level flight and can roll effortlessly but the interceptor spawn of the 154 makes it very powerful early game on the smaller maps. That makes it an easier plane to do well in for newer players as they start with a positional advantage. On larger maps or maps where everything gets an air spawn the 190 is the better plane. Ultimately both are very flawed and sub par for said rank premiums in the game.
Why would you ever carry full fuel in a 190 that isn't this one though? They all perform much better with less of it.
@@reinbeers5322 I never said to carry more fuel in other 190s. I was only ever talking the new premium 190 vs the Ta-154. This doesn't apply to other 190s.

@@Leon_der_Luftige Through the roof. It is an easy to hit target. When looking at a light pillbox there is a very obvious line where the walls stop and the roof begins. It can easily be hit in level flight or in a very, very shallow dive. The steeper the dive the easier to hit but the higher the risk of crashing into the ground.

@@Delantho Unless they can evade in ways that help them gain speed. Then the whole deal becomes much harder, and you have to drain them of energy before properly engaging

@@polishseal7768 Use speed to keep them at distance. If you let them get so close that they can actually reach you in a dive you are doing a poor job of using your speed to keep them at distance.
Edit: If you know the speeds at which they lock up and you are flying an aircraft that can take advantage of that you can potentially reverse them.

Yo guys what's up your gone kill me certainly but i try hard to find what compression mean when they say don't compress or i compress can someone explain me how it works ? XD
In short: "the faster you go, the shittier your plane responds". It's somewhat similar for every aircraft, but the severity varies and depends on the airframe design.
Take out an La-5 and make it go over 600 kmph IAS, then it starts to compress
To elaborate even better than above compression is the result of air forces on the control surfaces making it more difficult to deflect those control surfaces. The faster you go the more force is required to deflect the control surfaces. The result is that at higher speeds the aircraft will not be able to deflect said control surfaces which means reduced movement in the desired direction you are trying to get the aircraft to go relative to what you could do at lower speeds.
If you want a real life example that you can try next time you ride in a car roll the window down when the car is traveling at low speeds. At first stick your hand out horizontally but then rotate the back of your hand up and down. Notice how easy it is. Then do the same thing when the car is on a highway or something equivalent where higher speeds are permitted and do the same. You will notice that there is more air resistance to moving your hand at the higher speeds.
All the american 20 mils do the same thing to ground targets lately

The Ta-154 is fantastic. It's fast, it climbs, and has a hell of a lotta guns. Its my fav german premium lol, idk how you can say its worse than a shitty 190.
Because it is worse in every performance metric but one. Low speed turn rate. The 190 is faster in level flight by ~20mph (and the 154 is actually on the slower side compared to single engined fighters of the BR range it is at), it climbs slightly better (No, the 154 does not have a good climb rate relative to single engined fighters. In fact it isn't even competitive. Most single engined fighters have better than a 20m/s climb rate whereas the 154 has a best sustained 19.7m/s which is actually worse that the climb rate of the B18B when it isn't carrying ordnance.), rolls a lot better, et cetera. The only thing that makes the 154 a worthwhile aircraft to consider is that its interceptor spawn makes it very dangerous on smaller maps in the early game. In every other scenario the 190 is technically the better performing plane. It just happens to have a nasty stall characteristic that one has to be very careful of.
That said, for most players I would still recommend the 154 over the 190 only because of that interceptor spawn and the fact that it makes the 154 more dangerous than the 190 would be in most players hands. To do good in the 190 would just take more than most players are capable of whereas the 154 new players get a free positional advantage on about 1/3rd of the maps.
@@rainsilent I'm not going to say anything you said was wrong. All I know is I can get kills in a 154 and grind out a decent bit of my german tech tree and have never had ANY luck with any 190.
@@lemonylemon2289 It isn't hard to get kills in it. It is a very good heavy fighter in general but compared to the single engined fighters of the same BR the 154 actually isn't a strong plane once it loses its interceptor spawn advantage. It is a great plane that shows the advantage that air spawns provide.
The 190s are planes that require knowing more than just the basics in combat techniques. Most players tend to struggle with them as a result. There isn't anything wrong with that though. It is just a matter of learning and getting better as a player.
Personally I like the 154 but if I had to take one German plane from the BR I'd rather take the 190A-5/U-2. Then the 154 over the 109G-2s. The 154, when it can take advantage of its interceptor spawn, is easily the most relaxing mid BR German fighter to fly.

The only unique thing about this thing is the skin 😂 imma stick with the u2. Before the pandemic i hated this thing because I didn't like having 2 20s only. After I spaded it I never flown it again. I recently tried it again and I've grown to like it
190s should have better elevator force with high speed turn (better instantaneous turn rate). 190s should not lock up at high speed.

wait they nerfed the 20 mm 151? you kidding me?
They made the ammo lighter (which is a historically accurate change) meaning that medium to long range accuracy suffers but the ammo does travel farther.
They also significantly reduced the TNT filler, MV, firerate, and made it so the shells needed to go through 4mm to detonate with a 3mm delay after that (decreasing hit reliability, basically) a while back.
@@wolfgangkolber381 According to datamine records that I have been able to search through all of this is false. The last time I can find 151/20s were touched before this patch, which only changed their ballistic properties, they got the frag effect added to them which nearly doubled the damage they did. Can you link datamine patch notes showing this?
@@rainsilent This is just something I found reading the forums, so all I can say is that the posts I read claimed to have gotten their information from datamining. I do know, just based on the protection analysis screen, that the fuse information is correct ( assuming that protection analysis is not lying). I do not recall if that was always the case for the fuse, but I have seen enough people complain about it to put more weight on it having been changed to what it is than it having always been that way.

@@wolfgangkolber381 They did change the fuses but that was a long time ago and it was a buff as before the change on profile shots to the wing the ammo was going through the wing before exploding thereby doing less damage than it should have been. The change made sure that the ammo was detonating in the wing. It did increase the chances of the odd deflection at extreme angles but those are extremely rare.

Yeah its not unfair to call the 190s support planes. Been playing since beta and I thought that was the general consensus. Each nation has it. Spitfires and Typhoons, P51s and P47s, Zeros and Ki84s and 109s and 190s. Thats just how its always been.

I love 190s and all other kinds of "support planes" because getring into dogfights, being the first to charge in is still hard for me. I'm not very aggressive, no matter what I fly, so having something that allows me to help my teammates while still keeping me in my comfort zone in grear for me.

@@asian5682 Tbh, I can't stand the P51s: they look ugly to me. The P47 I enjoy quite a lot. I prefer the Navy planes in the US tech tree though.
