    Sad that Karen Carpenter and John Denver were both so talented and they left us much too soon. What a huge loss for our world to take, much less to understand their inner insecurities.
    I believe Karen was not the favorite child in the Carpenter household. Richard was definitely the mother's favorite and Karen pretty much always deferred to him during interviews and even performances. Richard didn't like Karen receiving most of the attention she so greatly deserved. Some of their songs, just like this performance on "The Tonight Show," PURPOSEFULLY shove Karen's talent aside so Richard could have his "Glory Moments."
    RIP IN PEACE KAREN CARPENTER AND JOHN DENVER. YOU ARE GREATLY MISSED.

    • @thomasdonohue1833
      @thomasdonohue1833 4 роки тому +5

      Well let's see. Richard built all the Carpenters music around Karen but he didn't want her to have the spotlight? Karen's family didn't love her? You must be reading books written by people who have never spoken to Karen. You should read up on what anorexia is and you will understand Karen much better. In brief anorexia is a coping mechanism. Such as an alcoholic drinks to cope, an anorectic starves them self to cope. Being famous as Karen was brought with it a lot of pressure. Karen was not equipped emotionally to deal with the stress and anxiety of being famous and anorexia became her coping mechanism. What happened to her was not Richard's fault. He was probably under more pressure than Karen. Richard was in charge of all the music and it was his job to find or write hit songs. That is its own realm of pressure. Richard also had his own set of problems and was mighty thin himself during the mid seventies. I can guarantee you even if Karen were not famous she would've still suffered from anorexia. Quit blaming everyone for what happened to Karen. I think Karen would be extremely offended if she read all the vile things people say about Richard and her mother. And it is vile.

      I don't agree. Richard seemed less comfortable on stage than Karen. He bumped into her while she took a bow. She lead the way on back and forth with Steve. When it came time to sing that duet she lead the way.
      I think that they were pretty fair on that amazing performance of Cole Porter and Bach, one that I think went right over the head of the audience. I was amazed at how good that sounded.

    • @jamallabarge2665
      @jamallabarge2665 3 роки тому +3

      Watching Richard's reaction to Karen's absence in his life is painful. He really felt it more and more as he grew older. There is a vacuum in his life about her death.
      Karen had a problem with her body image. It made her implode and killed her.
      Could her Mom have been nicer? Wouldn't have hurt.
