I think her humility was a part of her appeal. She never seemed to be showing off, even though her voice was so gorgeous that she had every right to do so. However, she never thought of herself as a great singer, but as a drummer! And she was a fabulous one!
What I find hard to believe is just how humble Karen is. It's like she doesn't even have a clue that she's one of the greatest pop singers to have ever lived.
Roger Heisler Jr. I guess alot of people go through life like that? I always think of Jack Nicholson, "Some people can't handle the truth?" Nice insight!
What a beautiful voice! Whenever I hear Karen singing it goes right through me straight to my heart! She was wonderful, so sad how she died. She was a sweetheart! She couldn't have sung so beautifully unless she was as beautiful inside, couldn't have sung so sweetly unless she was truly as sweet. My favorite singer ever!
Best female voice in history IMO. I want to go back in time and make everything alright for Karen and stop the Anorexia before it started. She should still be with us today. It's hard to believe she left us 36 years ago. We miss you soooooo much Karen! ❤❤❤
I feel the same way , I wish I could go back in time and save her , years later , Andy Gibb had a similar fate , he stopped doing drugs and got clean but his heart had too much damage and he died too young, Karen was doing better, had gained some weight , but the damage to her heart had been done , RIP Angel Karen 😢😢
The timbre in her voice is astounding...really, when i was a teenager i secretly loved the Carpenters, but couldn't tell anyone cause Zeppelin and Sabbath were top of my list back then. But her voice always sent shivers up my spine in a beautiful sort of way...
It's 2020 and I still can't get over the beautiful voice of Karen Carpenter. One of many wondrous female voices that will stay with me my whole life long.
The Carpenters -- What a great performance!!! Karen's singing is incomparable, her voice was strong, rich and beautiful! My favorite female singer of all time, I just loved her! She was classy, sweet, and lovely. There are not enough superlatives to describe her voice and how great her singing was! Richard was a master on the keyboard and among the greatest arrangers in music history and a great background vocalist in his own right! It is no wonder why they were the number one recording group throughout the decade of the 1970s! I love their music and I will never forget them, and of course Karen, who is absolutely wonderful, the greatest female vocalist of her time!
Outstanding live performance. Not pre-recorded lip sync, no autotune. Simply a stunning vocalist, great guitar and band. Karen, I grew up in the warmth of your voice. It comforts me still today. Seeing these rare live recordings is even more magic to enjoy. Thanks to the original poster. Karen and Tony may you both RIP.
Me too. LOVED her and the amazingly talented Tony Peluso. 🎸🎸🎸. And of course we are all still enjoying the musical talent of Richard Carpenter. Priceless. ♥️♥️♥️
@@jacquelinerussell8530 I'd call her a contralto because of how low she could go in her lower register, but she didn't have a heavy sounding voice like others in that voice type (like Cher, for instance).
As a professional keyboard player in (6) different bands over 16 years, it always amazes me when I hear Richard playing the Fender Rhoades piano and making it sound so good and looking effortless when in fact you have to literally beat the keys with your fingers to get any sound out of it! I used (5) keyboards on stage several have the Fender patch, thank God I had the sound but didn't have to lug around the heavy suitcase keyboard. Thanks Carpenters for all the wonderful music, I love you, Jeff Arnold
A flawless voice for Pop Ballads. She was to Paul Williams' compositions what Dionne Warwick was to Burt Bachrach's. It can be the Song. it can be the Singer. But sometimes, it's BOTH! A producer's Dream..
CARPENTERS in Meteoric Rise (14 Gold & Platinum hits & 20+M Sales) w/ 1st Hit by Bacharach / David & also Carpenters with Tony Peluso lead guitar> started the Power Rock Ballad era w/ "Good Bye to Love"! 2021 Carpenters still hold Record for Most Consecutive Hits ever!
Carpenters were harshly criticized for the guitar solo which I find ridiculous. Tony Peluso, RIP, added an element to this ballad that allowed the use of fuzz guitar in future ballads not to mention his work here is smokin' hot!
Live music at its best. Stunning performance. She was a beautiful soul, beautiful in every way. Too bad she didn't realize. Maybe that humbleness created this music. Rich is amazing too but probably more confident. A great team musically. Unique.
this was a time when talent was a must ,nowadays its about the hype ,most of the so called music artists of today could never have gotten a music recording contract back in the day
@Maxx Masson Very wise comment..now it's looks, and auto-tune for the studio, and just having a 'schtick'... there's a very successful co-lead singer in a popular group who failed three years to advance as an American Idol candidate....
The garage bands in the seventies were so much better than many of the acts today. It's what happens when you replace record company executives with corporate lawyers.
This was back when human beings actually mattered in music. I love seeing the guitarists, drummer, Richard on keyboard... These days human beings have been replaced by tech. It makes me so sad. Personally, I have no musical talent, I just love seeing people who do.
Every single thing is being corrupted in this modern world especially since the beginning of the new millennium it's not a very attractive place for human beings
As Richard Carpenter said, they built the Carpenters around “that note” that Karen hits in the low register and you hear it in every ballad. It’s that note that makes you go DAMN!
@@VintageRose75 Rock Drummer is refering to when Karen goes down to her lower register. A very fine example of this you will hear in their studio recording of 'The End Of The World. Karen goes as low as she can go, it sounds so sweet. Take a listen ua-cam.com/video/rk3uYN7E9I8/v-deo.html

Johnny Carson had a rule that all musical guests on his show had to perform live, with no lip-synching. I remember him saying once that over the years, several singers and groups opted not to appear on the "Tonight Show" because they just didn't have the chops to perform live.

I think I’ve commented on this post before but I find myself going back to the Carpenters again and again on UA-cam. They were my beautiful mom’s favorite group. I miss her so much and watching these videos reminds me of such great times with her when I was just a little tot and life was so much simpler.
Richard Carpenter is so ridiculously cute! Karen gets all of the acclaim due to her amazing voice, rightly so, but I want to call out that Richard is adorable (and, of course, he wrote and arranged much of their music.)

Roger Heisler Jr. perfectly stated.
She really yearned to be a drummer, but it turned out she had this incredible vocal expression. So she sang.

The most beautiful voice of all time!!!
She could sing pain, better than anyone that's ever lived or probably will live. With that voice. That voice. ❤️
What a voice. So effortless. No female singer around today can touch her. Fantastic voice. She made it seem so easy
Those of us who grew up in the 1970s with this music were so very fortunate; Karen had the voice of an angel.
