      Skip the glass thing. Try making Beurre-Monté. 3 Tbsp Water brought to simmer, whisk in 8 tbsp (one stick) of butter. Makes a new emulsion that sticks to what you pour it on.
      What the water glass is doing is coating the corn with ghee, aka, clarified butter, aka the oily part and maybe a little of the milk solids.
      Speaking of milk solids, you can buy powdered milk and toast it in a frying pan and you have brown butter powder to add to recipes or melted butter to amp things up.

    For the one with the two pastas, be careful not to do that if you’re cooking for somebody with a gluten allergy or celiac. The water will still have the gluten in it from the other pasta, so the lentil pasta may not be safe for somebody with a sensitivity.

      Wondering if you inverted the whirlpool so the butter goes up and down the corn . It should cover the corn better with butter.
      I would cook a whole variety of veggies ie carrots,pumpkin,squash, a roast meal on sticks

    The "hack" that my parents always used for buttering corn was to apply a lot of butter to a slice of bread, then use the bread to apply the butter to the corn by wrapping it around and twirling the corn in it's buttery/bread wrapping. It worked so well! No fiddling with trying to spread butter on hot corn with a knife.

      use a fork to spread the butter -- it grips the butter and makes it easy to spread over the corn

      We just used the wrapper on the butter peeled back a bit and slid the stick along the kernels. No harm to the rest of the stick. Just wrap the paper wrapper over the remainder of the butter for use later.

      I always used a fork, because the curve matched the butter, and you could only use a little bit at a time. I only buttered what I was about to eat because otherwise it just melts off. The bread is clever, though. And you have corn flavored buttered bread, after.

    I'm with Mrs B. I just learned this past year you can start the potato in the microwave and finish it in the oven/air fryer/grill. It's been such a great find and I think they taste better that way!

    One problem with the pasta sieve hack.
    You mentioned if someone wants the lentil pasta for dietary reasons. That would usually be because of gluten intolerance. Cooking it like this would mean it is being cooked in the same water as the pasta with gluten so cross contamination occurs.

    One day Barry will learn to do a control test to compare to the other result ^_^. The spuds would cook just as easy in the microwave in you just stab a few holes and put them in the microwave. I'd recommend putting a piece of paper tool beneath them to collect the starch as it flows out.

    for jacketed/baked potato .. I microwave a pierced potato for 3 to 4 minutes then finish in the air fryer 10 to 15 minutes for a faster crispy crust potato.

    With 6th one, if someone tries it be careful to not have the hot residual butter/oil from the pan to drip on your arm when you flip the pan over.

      haha yes that was exactly why I said I would do that part / oven gloves etc :) Deffo slide onto a plate or prob easier onto a work surface if solo too

    Potato nails. My Mother always used potato nails for baked potatoes in the oven. I still use them to this day, as it evens out cooking. We also save our butter wrappers. When you take the paper off a stick of butter and there is still some on the paper, you fold it up and put it back in the fridge. Need to grease a pan? Butter paper for the win. You can also grab one for the perfect amount of butter for your corn. You just use the buttered paper to rub on the butter!

      I do both of those. Also, the kitchen drawer with tongs and spatulas, everything is turned around so you can see what you’re looking for and you’re not just looking at a bunch of handles.

    With the last hack, just cover the pan after you pour the omelet mix. When time comes to flip, it won't be so delicate and wont break if you try to flip with spatula !!

    With corn what we used to do is get a nice slice of bread and butter it fairly heavily. Then, hold the bread in your hand and wrap the bread around the corn cob to get the cob all covered. Butters the corn and also melts the butter into the bread and warms it up some too so you can eat both.

    For the last one, you can just cover the pan with a lid and the top will cook nicely without having to flip it at all.

    The only reason I would think the pizza cutter instead of a knife is like if you moved and have no idea where your cutlery is and/or don't feel like unpacking but you wanna make food lol. And for some reason you find the pizza cutter somewhere really easily. (Tbh I'd just buy a frozen pizza)

    The foam on the water is from the lentil pasta. That's just something it does, same with chickpea pasta.

    Back in the 70s (before microwave ovens!), we baked potatoes on a metal spike as it cooked the middles faster .... worked like a dream - haven’t seen them for years but a metal meat skewer would work in exactly the same way

    The buttering corn hack from the 80s movie War Games is the best…..take a piece of bread, spread with a generous bit of butter, then lay the corn on the bread and rotate the cob.

    Best Jacket Potato - Wash the potato, roll in olive oil, cover well in flaky salt and freshly ground pepper (lots of both). Put it in the air fryer at 380F (193C or thereabouts) for 30 minutes. Turn the potatoes over and cook a further 10 minutes at 400F (204C or thereabouts). Skin is crispy and flavorful and the interior is soft and fluffy. Split that puppy open and apply some room temperature butter and other toppings of your choice. Then oink like a pig and pig out!

    Get yourself some Cob Nobs. They’re made of heat-proof silicone (hard plastic). You ‘screw them into either end of the corn cob Before you cook them. You don’t need to handle hot corn cobs to fit those other corn holders. It makes them all longer though. That’s why I cook them in my small roaster.

    When baking a potato in the oven, you can insert a long (clean) nail in the middle. The heat transfer from the nail will hasten the cooking. Remove before eating - ha, ha.

    There are 4 pronged potato spikes for jacket spuds for the oven. Cuts cooking time by about 20%

    With the 2 pastas. It would only work if the "picky" person doesn't have any allergies. I have some severe allerges, many times I had to have food cooked separately....or else a trip to the emergency room

    I've been using a pizza cutter to cut lettuce for at least 20 years. Works really well for a chopped salad, just put everything in a bowl and roll the cutter.

    For the corn and butter if you were doing several ears of corn .. you can put the butter in large enough skillet with all the herbs and such you want then melt it down drop the corn in it and roll it around

    Barry, those thin pancakes that get tossed to flip are English. Scottish (Scotch), Welsh and Irish pancakes are more closely related to (and likely the inspiration for) US style pancakes just smaller. English pancakes are far more closely related to crêpes but they are not British or UK pancakes, just English.

    Regarding the pasta one. If people have to have a different type of pasta for medical reasons, e.g. coeliac disease. It cannot be cooked in the same water as normal wheat pasta.

    First one really depends on the kind of pizza cutter you have. Most i've seen sold have much smaller disc and also finger guards covering about 40-50% of the disc's circumference, so you wouldn't be able to use it to cut anything non-flat even if you try

    I've only just discovered that potatoes can be skewered onto metal 'skewers' and baked in the oven for a super-soft centre whilst keeping the skin crackly and hard. There are tools you can buy for this- a bit expensive, another thing to find storage for and unnecessary though. However, I was recently ordering a paper spike- you know those old things back in the day of paper-only offices that someone would use to stab all the phone messages or invoices on to keep until it's time to get back to them later? You can still buy those. (I got some via Temu for about AU$1-2 each.) They have a heavier metal base plus a long skewer that screws into the base. On the top at the pointy end they come with a little rubber tip though you don't really need this. I ordered six of these instead of just one. Then I used just the spike sticks to put through six potatoes. It has to go all the way through and come out the other end. And they worked really well. They are stainless steel and take up barely any room in a drawer. Just saying.
    If you're interested I was looking for something to hold down vegetables whilst I am peeling them. My hands and wrists are not very stable or strong thanks to arthritis. I'd just bought a USB rechargeable peeler from Temu (for AU$25). The peeler is quite good though my hand kept getting in the way so I wanted something to hold the potato steady. I now use the paper spike with the base attached to hold the vegetable steady whilst peeling. Voila!

    I have one of those pizza rocker cutters, it's like 35cm long, I actually sharpened the blade (they send it pretty dull, I understand why) but you can get a decent edge on it, works awesome for cutting pizza as well as stuff like lettuce.

    Two alternatives for the omelette, both of which I use on occasion - put it under the grill to finish off the top or simply put a lid on to let it steam for a bit. Both quite effective and with less risk of cooking yourself :)

    We used to use the metal skewers to stick through the middle of a jacket potato in the oven.
    You used to get metal skewers from the butchers years ago.

    You can put a metal fork in the microwave too, but you 100% definitely need the metal object not to get in contact with another metal object (aluminum bowl, the sides of the microwave etc). If it doesn't touch anything else, no problem (though you can burn your fingers / hands though afterwards 😉).

    I think the sieve hack could be useful if you wanted to cook some vegetables to go with your pasta (e.g. some peas or broccoli) but you wanted to be able to take them out when they're done, or serve them separately from the pasta.
    I'm not convinced by the sweetcorn hack, that's going to be a greasy mesy glass to wash up, and good luck not pouring melted butter down your drains.
    The potato one was fun, have you thought about maybe having a control (like in a science experiment) when you test ones like that, to compare to the hack ones so you can see what difference it made.

    I thought I read somewhere you're supposed to wrap a potato in wet paper towels and then nuke it for 4 minutes and that steam cooks it nicely. Did it recently to rather decent success. I threw it in for another 4 and it totally didn't need it, I just forgot I had it in the microwave since my microwave is like 50ft from my living room and is super quiet.     Sweet 🌽 my style. Remove the 🌽 off the cob, steam it and once it cooked. Mix it with 1 TBS of sugar. 1TBS of slightly salted butter and 1 TBS of condensed milk.

    2:50 my step-dad use to be in the army catering corp (in Warminster) and always baked spuds in the oven with a metal fork through it. He also use to bake spuds wrapped in tinfoil and placed them in the bottom of a fireplace during the winter (saved a lot on electric)

      How about no precook at all? Mix a full jar of spaghetti sauce with a full jar of water. Break up 1 pound of pasta in square casserole. Cover with sauce mixture and foil. Cook for 15 minutes at 375°. Open, stir and break up any noodles stuck in a clump. Sometimes happens, sometimes not. Recover and return to oven for another 15 minutes. Check for doneness. If additional time or water is needed, this is where you add maybe 8 ounces of water if it is still pretty chewy. If it's almost ready, maybe a 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup additional water might be needed. Stir, then cover and return to oven. When almost to desired doneness, remove and let it rest to absorb remainder of sauce and water. You can also add some shredded cheddar or mozzarella or parmigiana cheese and place in oven for 5 minutes, uncovered, to melt cheese. Doing it this way is super yummy because the sauce is absorbed into the noodles. I even do this in my air fryer or a small counter top oven. Really easy if you have a busy night.

    I've seen chefs put a lid onto the pan of omelettes to cook both sides then toss it to brown up the unbrowned side

    My mother used flip cornbread with the pot top. Whole skillets of cornbread. What you have to do to make pancakes or omelets easier to flip is just put a lid on it while it cooks. It solidifies the top, to make it easier to flip.

    Worth pointing out that the pasta cooking hack that you showed wouldn’t be suitable for people with a gluten or wheat allergy if the other pasta is a standard type, as the water would be contaminated with the allergens. It’s a great hack but only suitable for different preferences.
