I am a slut for wantons and playlists. The first is a reference to "Wish Upon" a terrible movie, I haven't seen, but I've watched the Adum and Friends Commentary on.
The cupcake gadget, you should try it as a cutter *after* the (single color) cupcakes are baked, then assemble the different colors. That's the only way to get the nice crisp layers in their photo.
I'd also be willing to risk it and leave it in for the first few minutes of baking, so the dough can start to set, before pulling it out. Although the dough will probably stick to it … scrap that idea.
I dont want to hear anyone yell at me for putting pineapple on pizza again.. after seeing Barry's abomination pickle, applesauce pizza...... ABOMINATION I say!!
With the pizza slider, you're supposed to push the "paddle" forward while you're pulling on the cover handle at the same speed. The handle basically has to be stationary relative to the surface. You're basically keeping the pizza in the same place while replacing the surface it's on. That's why you could get it to work in the end. Same with depositing things. You place the "paddle" where you want the pizza to end up and then push the cover forward at the same rate as you're pulling the paddle. As for the 1-star reviews, if they're due to usage rather than build quality, I wouldn't be surprised if they had the same issue you did.
I came to say this. You can actually create a simple DIY version using a flat tray or thin chopping board and a single sheet of greaseproof paper. It's all about the technique.
you can also use a similar thing to easily get spilt sauce off of your counter top but yes, i imagine its gotten 1 star reviews because people think you just move the handle and not move the paddle forward at the same time
It's not really. Or at least it depends on how bad the arthritis is. It is an excellent bottle opener, it'll even do drinks bottles. However, you do need to be able to grip the handles together. My parents had that exact design ever since some time in the 60's, but now they're both nearly 80 they don't have the strength to grip the handles, so i got them one of the automatic openers Barry showed in a previous gadget video.
I can't grip either. The pain is so intense I know to take a break after opening jars or gripping things. Also my right hand automatically began hurting just watching and imagining trying to use that gadget. I found that the best solution for me is having a bunch of silicone mats around. Useful for so many unexpected things like keeping eggs from rolling around and breaking before I can crack them to make batter. Textured silicone pads have become my best friends. Also those silicone bowl covers are underappreciated for versatility.
Hi Guys, finally something I own and love. The 2 in one jar opener. My parents bought one in the 1960s and I used it all this time and brought it with me to Mexico 38 years ago and still have it. Thanks Mom and Dad and thank you Mr. Lewis
Mangoes are ripe when they start to turn orange and yellow if they are mostly green or entirely green they are not ripe Also unripened mangoes should not be refrigerated the cold actually stops the ripening process and they will just start to rot and never ripen.
I dont like ripe mangos. I find them too mushy. I prefer them firm, so when they are turning red but there is still a bit of green. Very difficult to achieve unfortunately.
The 2 in 1 Opener is a blast from my past. My mother gave me one which her grandmother owned. We call it a "ouvre tout" which is French for "open everything". We are not a French speaking family, that's just what we called it. I've used it so many times over the year.
That's the exact tin opener my parents had, they got it some time in the 60's, and it was still going strong until a year or two ago when i had to swap it out for them with an automated one. It never failed, you could also do drink bottles with the smallest part.
Years?!? Just years?!? I got my first one of those when my grandma gave up her house and moved into a retirement home. That was three decades ago. She had owned hers for at least thirty years before that. So they've been around for at least sixty-five years now.
My parents had a similar can opener like that when I was little. (Late 80's) and my dad has rheumatism in his hands and it worked a charm, we even used it for soda bottles.
I find rice cookers overcook the rice, especially if you want to use the rice for fried rice. Don't need gadgets. 1 cup white rice, 1 1/3 cup water, (take a tablespoon water out if you have washed the rice). Bring to the boil, (lid on). Reduce heat to the lowest possible and simmer for 10 mins. Let sit for 10 - 15 mins. Plenty of articles online that give cooking information for all rice varieties. No need to buy something else made out of plastic.
The pizza peel looks quite similar to something we would use in the bakery to bake stuff on the oven floor. You'd put your bread (usually sourdough) on it, load the thing into the oven all the way to the back (can be quite deep) and then there is a mekanism that keeps it in place while you roll it backwards putting the breads on the oven floor.
I bought a house with an old kitchen that had a stuck drawer. My builder has just taken out the kitchen and the drawer had various utensils including one of those jar openers. Some of them were junk but I'm keeping the opener, they're very useful
We've had one of those 2 in 1 openers in the drawer for decades. Its so useful, especially for soft drink bottles! Also doubles up as a good ice smasher haha
For the fruit/veggie slicer, they should just make three complete units without the swappable handles. It would be so much safer and stronger that way.
Rice is easy. Rinse your rice until clear. Put twice as much water as rice. Bring to a boil, covered. When it boils, turn off the heat and leave covered for 20 minutes. Rice with be cooked and fluffable.
My mum has got a 2 in 1 bottle opener, which she has had for the past 35 years and it is still going strong. It’s almost identical to the one you tested Barry, except the handles are red. 😊
Barry, there is NOT one of these gadgets I would have in the house, even if they were free. That pizza was an abomination to humanity and Italians. That was as bad as pineapple on a pizza, which should be made a crime.
The can opener... my grandparents had the same thing. And it's still at my parents' place. And yes, many walnuts have been felled by that thing. That thing just doesn't break!
also a toothpick or skewer is also a cake thermometer. If it comes out clean it's done. If it comes out a bit moist or batter-like or sticks a bit, it's not quite done. If the cupcake turned black, it's over done.
Use a toothpick to check your cakes. If it comes out with cake on it, it's NOT DONE. Don't waste your money on that gadget. The Pizza lifter, people are using it for cleaning up spills on their counters. hahahahaha
Was looking at this cupcake gadget as a gift for my mum for Mothers Day. She bakes a cake for every student in her school (small SEN school) and some love cupcakes and thought this would make fun cakes, so interested to see how you find it.
I was thinking, could it be used as a cookie cutter? Then you could Frankenstein cupcakes together, or have a jelly filled cupcake, or a candy surprise one?
Those gadgets were all kinda neat. That pizza conveyer definitely takes some trial and error, and I bet that cupcake funnel might want you to bake each color separately for the pictured results on the package.
I have the perfect bottle opener, an ice cream scoop. The ice cream scoop i have is kinda shaped like a hook or cresent moon (when you look from the side instead of a half circle) and i put that hook under the edge of the lid, push down slightly and it breaks the seal and the lid cones off easy as pie everytime when you twist it off.
My favourite gadget was the rice ruler, although we don't eat rice. I had the grand-parent of the can opener, probably the same brand, but it used to punch holes in the sides of the lids (some 40 years ago?) I will teach you a hack, instead of dicing carrots when they are hard and raw, dice cooked carrots with the grid attachment.
The trick to the cupcake thing is adding extra flour to the mix before pouring. It thickens the batter so it doesn’t spread easily. ( Can’t remember exact amount, I want to say it was around 1/4 cup extra)
That pizza hack product thingy can also be used for other things btw! Like sauces on a table or something that spilt (has to be a bit viscous) and it will probs work better when not done on baking paper as well. Nice video!
Easy way to put two different sponges in one cake is to make two cupcake batters one plain and then a colour bake the plain one for half the time then get a syringe filled with the colour batter. It works!
I mean the "TOOTHPICK" method isn't TECHNICALLY REUSABLE, it is for that whole tray, I guess that's what that thermometer is going after. Edit: I hope that thermometer thing wasn't expensive, since it's clearly just a color changing dye, also don't see how this isn't better than the ol' Toothpick method. Toothpicks make tiny holes, this is at least 3 toothpicks thick.
i think for the cupcake one you should bake it for a few minutes with the device still there and so the batter stays in place and then remove it and bake the rest of the way
If i have a jar with a tough lid I use a bottle opener. Hook it over as normal and raise it slightly, the pressure will release and the lid easily unscrews.
If it feels like plastic then it probably is. There's been a misleading advertising move in recent years to advertise various cellulose-based plastics and fabrics as bamboo because that's where the cellulose has been sourced from (being made in china). The final product is no more bamboo than it is wood or cotton, which are common cellulose sources elsewhere in the world.
With the cupcake template, or unsure what you call it, you can bake it a little after doing the center. This will make sure it is not mixed into the outer part. After that, you do the outer part. So in stages.
Last one looks very similar to (or. is eactly the same product as) a thing meant to easily lift up spills. I was already doubtful it could do that. Now I'm pretty much absolutely convinced it could never do that. lol
I would love a shirt like that but with measurement conversions, like cups, ounces, and milliliters. I rarely need to convert oven temperatures. The last time I did find a recipe with only celsius listed, I remembered that 180 C is 350 F because I'd heard Barry say it so often. 😂
The bottle/jar opener made me laugh because I've grown up with one :D I just asked my parents how long they've had theirs and the said about 30 years haha. I've never known any other bottle/jar opener (I'm 31) its great. I think the one you have is slightly bigger than the one I have. But you can use it for any size jar. even the smaller one you can use for slightly larger jars its the amount of pressure you use.
The pizza thing is basically the same thing that baker use to shove 15-20 baguette in an hoven without burning themselves. Imagine filling a 3 meter long hoven full of raw dough without messing your bread.
I may have to get the rice ruler as I’m the worst for cooking rice. Don’t want to get any more electrical gadgets. This gadget would be cool for camping too.
i really cant be bothered with cooking rice any other way than a rice cooker x) i grew up with a thai step mum and never knew it any other way

The multi-purpose opener you covered in this video is certainly not a very new design. My grandma had one like this for as long as I remember, which should be at least the mid 90s, and the dark brown handles it had suggest to me that she must have had it since the 70s or 80s. In any case, seeing that tool again caught me pretty off guard!
That '2 in 1 opener', it's not a new thing here in Australia, they've been around since at least the '70s, I know my mother has one from the '80s in her kitchen drawer :) Extremely useful thing for opening jars.
I have that exact "universal opener" and its been AMAZING! i h hEDS which is a collagen defective disorder, which causes overly flexible joints among other things.. I have ssues opening all bottles and jars. Jars in particular are a major bugbear as i love cooking but live alone. Ive tried SO MANY jar opening gadgets electric/not and before this the 3 different sized ring lever thingy one was the best but this beat it hands down. Those v shaped wedges you screw under cabinets did not work as i didn't have the strength and the electric were the worst as they fail 9/10 times.
I have one of those cutters, but just for mango; it works decent. The only problem I have is needing to cut a bit on the skin to get started. But feel it works fairly decently 😄
The pizza slider, you need less flour and for the dough to be slightly tacky. I have one which im yet to use but i have an aluminium pizza peel which works but peel requires lots of flour for less friction, the plastic looking conveyory type surface on the slider is teflon whoch is heat resistant and is used on sealing bar heat strips and other applications, will not melt in an oven, not sure about 400 degrees though
A little bit of convincing 😂 Barry: "Come on, pizza, you can do it. I promise." Pizza: "I don't know. What if I fall off? I'm pretty confy where I am." Barry: "No, no, it's more comfy on this board, and I swear I won't let you fall." Pizza: "Ok, I guess I'll give it a try. If you swear."
Hi Barry, long time follower. The lid remover you reviewed today has many uses. I have two of them. One for kitchen , one for cleaners. Anytime you can't remove that cleaner lid that has a squeeze and turn to open issue.. it works. Please try. Let me know.
The lid opener is amazing but of kit. My grandparents and my mum had one and I now have my nan's. The smallest one I have also used as a screwtop bottle opener, sad but true 😂

I only use a big thing plastic cutting board and do the handtrwirk that puzzabakers makes with their wooden spades
The pizza slide thing is for picking up anything. If you do it right, it will even pick up small amounts of liquid.
That 2in1 opener is ancient, we had one when I was like 10, and I'm over 30. Really good for a lot of lids.
Yep! We've had one probably since the 70's. It's definitely older than me and I'm 30.
Yep, i'm nearly 40 and my parents had the same one, but with red handles, for as long as i can remember.
We got one as a wedding present (with other gadgets) 40 years ago!
@@markc1793 I have my mum's old one in my kitchen utensil draw. It's about 40 years old and also has red handles 😂
Yup mine is red, hitting the edge of the jar lid with a steady stick works just as well.
That jar opener looks good for those with arthritis in the hands or wrist
Or for us midgets with mall hands who struggle to grip lids bigger than that baby food container 🤣
It's not really. Or at least it depends on how bad the arthritis is. It is an excellent bottle opener, it'll even do drinks bottles. However, you do need to be able to grip the handles together. But you can use it for any size jar. even the smaller one you can use for slightly larger jars its the amount of pressure you use.
Oh yeah, I've been waiting for another gadgets video!
Thank you Barry, for always making the best content.
i think the way they made the cupcake pictures was by cuttinging out the layers after baking.
I have that white handles jar opener.
The pizza slider, the handle doesn't move at all, the body does, you hold the handle and push the body under the pizza.
If you eat rice more than once a week, it's really worth getting a rice cooker.
LOVE layered cakes! Definitely gonna get the cupcake one! Thanks For making this barry!
cheers mate

But it doesn’t work….
i really cant be bothered with cooking rice any other way than a rice cooker x) i grew up with a thai step mum and never knew it any other way
The multi-purpose opener you covered in this video is certainly not a very new design. My grandma had one like this for as long as I remember, which should be at least the mid 90s, and the dark brown handles it had suggest to me that she must have had it since the 70s or 80s. In any case, seeing that tool again caught me pretty off guard!
With rice, put your pointer finger on top of the rice and the water should come up to your first knuckle
That '2 in 1 opener', it's not a new thing here in Australia, they've been around since at least the '70s, I know my mother has one from the '80s in her kitchen drawer :) Extremely useful thing for opening jars.
Top Tip put a damp tea towel underneath your cutting board will stop the board sliding worried when I saw you use the apple corer
My top 5 rices:
5) Brown
4) Condoleezza
3) Tim
2) Basmati
1) Anneka
For the cupcakes not to mix, you need to use a much thicker batter -- like pound cake, madeira, etc. Runny batters ... well, run.
The cupcake thing isn't bad. You could do the same thing with just a little bit of aluminum foil.
I have one of those cutters, but just for mango; it works decent. The only problem I have is needing to cut a bit on the skin to get started. But feel it works fairly decently 😄
I’d spray the cupcake gadget with a bit of cooking spray to see if that helps
The pizza slider, you need less flour and for the dough to be slightly tacky. I have one which im yet to use but i have an aluminium pizza peel which works but peel requires lots of flour for less friction, the plastic looking conveyory type surface on the slider is teflon whoch is heat resistant and is used on sealing bar heat strips and other applications, will not melt in an oven, not sure about 400 degrees though
A little bit of convincing 😂
Barry: "Come on, pizza, you can do it. I promise."
Pizza: "I don't know. What if I fall off? I'm pretty confy where I am."
Barry: "No, no, it's more comfy on this board, and I swear I won't let you fall."
Pizza: "Ok, I guess I'll give it a try.
Finaly gadgets again, lets go but remember, safety is number one priority!
the 2 in 1 looks like some kind of a twisted torture device
