Do you like Dead Meat? Their early work was a little too new media for my taste. But when Halloween (2018) KILL COUNT came out in '19 I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The video has a clear, crisp look and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the kills a big boost. James and Chelsea have been compared to FoundFlix, but I think Dead Meat has a far more cynical sense of humor.
The perfect movie for Chelsea to debut a kill count on, there’s no denying that this was easily one of Christian Bale’s top performances for a film, and that says a lot
Christian Bale running butt ass naked with a chainsaw (in an apartment nonetheless) is still one of the wildest/funniest things I’ve ever seen in a movie 😂 He definitely killed some people but that’s how you know most of this shit was in his head
The homeless guy is the easiest kill to cover up, especially for a rich stock broker with business connections and a father in his company. Other than that, he probably started fantasizing about doing it to people who would be harder to cover up, but knew he couldn't pull it off.
You should watch the film ‘No Hard Feelings’, it has probably the funniest scene I’ve ever seen in my life. Without major spoilers it takes place on a beach!
I figured he just bought the whole top floor. Which would add to the fact that he’s constantly comparing himself to others but is actually pretty successful.
@@EpicParrot54115 Yeah, I watch batman and the dark knight rises back to back so that I can imagine Patrick batemen as Bruce Wayne, it actually makes sense considering how batman acts.

The reason is because Patrick Bateman is a personality void; everything he repeats is just from magazines, interviews, quotations from others, and publications. He has no thoughts or principles of his own, much like his fellow yuppies; the only difference between him and them is that he is partially aware of it. It's one of the reasons he 'kills;' he's so desperate to stand out (despite his repeated statements that he wants to fit in) that he engages in increasingly brutal, horrific murders to find some manner of standing out, but no-one cares; no-one cares because his victims, like his "friends," are all interchangable people. Disposable, faceless meat for the grinder. No-one cares, and no-one knows or cares to know. Even when he confesses at the end (which is a lot more ambiguous in the book than the movie) no-one believes him, and even if they did, who cares? The people in his life are all coke-snorting bigoted, shallow, vapid caricatures; everything is commodified and sold, people included, so the odds are that even if they believed he was a serial killer, they'd shrug. You mean common? Because while true, it's more common than you'd think. Everyone who pointed out that the Barbie movie is feminist trash is right, but only half-right. However, the lefties who praised it failed their own media literacy test. As it turns out, Barbie is a botched attempt at marrying feminist themes with humanist themes.
@@Aidan_He very true, but some could argue his reaction, disgusted/repulsed, could be homophobic. but i don’t agree. as a gay man, women can repulse me, but that doesn’t mean i’m a misogynist.
Same goes with people on UA-cam shorts praising Patrick Bateman as some cool alpha male type dude they should inspire to be like. People who clearly never saw the movie and clearly don't know you're not suppose to root for him.
The business card scene is absolutely perfect, not only is the word acquisitions spelled wrong on all of them. Everyone in the office gives the wrong information about the font, the color, and even the texture. This really shows up in Bateman's scene where he looks at Paul Allen's card because get this, None of what he says about the card is right, this scene shows exactly what the book could never cover, the insane Ego of all these men who don't even understand what to be proud of.
@@zyourzgrandzmaz I don't think so? I cannot find any evidence of people spelling it the other way and anything I can find is people saying "No, that is the wrong spelling" Also I don't think that's the right use of the Mandela effect!
Fun fact: during the business card scene, Christian Bale actually managed to make himself start sweating on command during each take, usually at the same point in the scene each time. Seriously I don’t know what that man is but damn.
Cause he’s actually an American psycho in real life lol, a lot of ppl that have worked with him have said he’s very privileged and weird overall as he thinks he’s upper of other people, honestly this is why I think he’s so good acting in this movie and why it’s so easy for him to do weird shit creepy dude
James is the perfect host, he’s mastered the craft. With that said, chelsea’s informative perspective works wonders, especially for a movie as batshit as American Psycho. Just as Zoran’s upbeat joking style worked for tremors. I love this trio for kill counts.
Yeah her love for not just this movie but the entire psychological thriller/horror genre were very apparent throughout the entire video especially with her own theory at the end. I also love that clips of interviews were played not to talk about "look at this cool effect we made" but to instead establish the characters and give context to their behaviour which is important when talking about characters as complex as Patrick Bateman. This is already a Certified Kill Count Classic in my opinion
I couldn't agree more. I love the idea of all 3 of them doing counts; not only will it give James a break from time to time, but it could allow each of them to do counts for movies/franchises they might enjoy but the others do not. :)
The best Batman violently killing the worst Joker Perfectly balanced, as all things should be Edit: So many likes after a year 😅,and yes, Bale still is the best Batman but Pattinson might take that title
@@independentmissile200 true but still this movie was good and had my and plenty of others favorite actor so can they make a new except with or not this girl?
Something interesting about the book is that unlike the movie he doesn't kill the model from the club and even seems to take pity on her after her boyfriend insults her and he even tells her to leave.
If the whole, “Batemans dad paid off everyone and he did murder all those people” then this had to be the most intense form of gaslighting in television history
He blows a car up like a action movie scene so yah the murder s are in his head when he comes around at the end of the movie he remembers why he want that way in the first place and rather be like that then the limbo of the yeppie life like the book 👍which is more terrifying if you think about it reminds me of the shutter island ending in a way .
@@Preston133 Paul’s murder doesn’t seem to be real too. The coincidence with the CD single when talking to the detective is merely impossible. Besides, the appearance of the detective is quite close to the Bateman’s. And in the end an advocate proves this suggestion to be true.
@@pro-6655 this is my opinion Patrick was killing in till the cat scene and all the murduers leading up to that made him more crazy intill he cracked and he got so crazy that he didn’t know the difference between reality and his imagination and when the police are exploded with a singular bullet he questioned if it was real or not making him run to Paul Allen’s appartment and when the he got their and the lady their didn’t answer if it was Paul Allen’s apartment she knew that he was behind the murduers their ( the murduers that they cleaned up so the apartment didn’t lose value ) and said you should leave so no one found out the truth
He actually did the accent for the entirety of filming. After filming at a wrap party, he went back to his normal voice and everyone thought he was just prepping for a different role
I love how different Chelsea, Zoran, and James deliver their Kill Counts. Chelsea is like hearing an audiobook. Zoran is pure unhindered chaos, and James is matter-of-fact with spurts of excitement. The inflections are great! Fantastic job Chelsea - can’t wait until the next one!
The homeless man and the dog getting killed was always so heart wrenching to me. I love dogs and I legitimately felt so bad for the guy, and then both are just murdered in cold blood. Ouch
I'm honestly so happy that Chelsea is comfy finally doing a kill count for this!!! I love her on the podcast and I know she was worried about how the rest of the channel's viewers might react to her, but she's just absolutely amazing!!!
Chelsea is like that one teacher you had in school that actually gets to teach the subject she loves. It makes the Podcast amazing and was great in this kill count. I like that she made it her own. Sidenote, I listen to all this stuff at work and had a customer one room over one day while I listened to the Human Centipede. That episode was awesome and horrified that poor customer quietly hiding for the rest of the day
Unpopular Opinion (maybe?): As much as I think Zoran did an okay job, Chelsea freaking nailed this Kill Count. It felt much more naturally funny to me and the line deliveries were spot on from her, similar to James. If we had to choose, I hope to see more Chelsea in future Kill Counts.
I read this book for a class at uni and loved it and also really enjoyed the movie. My running theory has always been what Chelsea said - nobody in the story cares about anyone but themselves, so they confuse each other for various other people coz they all look the same and they don't actually care. Patrick might have even thought he killed Paul, but in reality he killed someone else, someone he didn't care enough to realize wasn't Paul.
one possibility is that he did kill Paul Allen (the real one), but as shown in the movie by how shallow everyone is in the sense "no one knows no one", that means after a while, no one cared Patrick killed the real Paul and let it go. Just like how most people never know who Patrick is and always confuse him with someone else, how can we tell Carnes didn't do the same with Paul Allen by mistaking the guy he had seen in London?
Worked as a printer for 6 months and some of the fascinating things people can accomplish with mashed belached wood pulp pressed into sheets, i.e paper, is simply astonishing. There was a kind of cardstock that felt like velvet, plastic contact with holographic and/or UV fluorescent patterns and customisable embossments. Also have to mention the palette printing machine they put their office door through to show off what they can do.
I absolutely love how both Chelsea AND Zoran had their own styles and it was simply Dead Meat all over again. You both should give yourselves pats on the back, because its excellent.
Fun fact: in order to get the role, Christan Bale made a meeting with Bret Easton Ellis, to which he dressed as Bateman and introduced himself to Ellis as such. After about 10 minutes, Ellis was crying and begged Bale to stop. Ellis later claimed the meeting being "the most terrifying moment of his whole life"
I always figured that when the girl asked him what he does for a living she heard "Mergers and Acquisitions" because of the loud music blurring him saying "murders and executions". They sound too similar for it to be a coincidence.
Have you read the book? Because if I remember correctly she asks him to repeat his answer to the question and he changes his response to exactly that - "mergers and acquisitions", not "murders and executions"... it's a very good adaptation but the book still contains many aspects that are impossible to portray through the cinematic medium.
Christian Bale did a great job bringing this character to life, I think there is no other actor who could've played him as well (well, maybe Jim Carrey, but he'd've been too silly)
Something that i like about the ending speech, is that even though Patrick is a pathetic evil man, i kind of feel bad for him because, as i interpret it, he actually wants to be found out so that he could mature through the consequences, him being constantlly protected by his privileges prevents him from developing his character, as if there is no real Patrick Bateman but he internally wants Patrick Bateman to become real and he just can't and never will be able to.
i love that about the ending and notice the differences between the two times patrick confesses that he killed people, one was out of utter regret and sadness, and the other (when he was talking to his lawyer in person) seemed more mad and "fucking take me seriously" and it really enforces your interpretation
The killing is his sick way of trying to stand out among other selfish rich people who don't even know each other's names let alone notice murders are going on around them.
During the confession scene you can seem him be relieved after confessing to his lawyer. Since even if he does get away with all of it he at least knows that someone else knows and that he’s not keeping this giant secret all to him self
Chelsea killed it and she actually made me audibly laugh a couple times. and I can see why James and Chelsea are together. They are like two peas in a pod with how excited they are to talk about their favorite genre. Hope we see more chelsea kill counts in the future!
"The highest clientele...and Jared Leto." Is so freaking hilarious. Such a great kill count Chelsea, appreciate calling out the difficult nature of these kills.
15:43 my god this direction is genius to me!! This movie is so fascinating but what’s more so is how it’s been received. It’s genuinely terrifying how many men think that Bateman is aspirational, and want to emulate him. Despite him not only being a murderer but so pathetic as to be devastated and jealous over business cards! Just another example in history of the patriarchy taking something criticizing them as a compliment.
Another terrifying aspect is how many women find Bateman attractive. I'm assuming he's attractive to the "I can fix him" type of women, but he literally murders people (hypothetically), is homophobic, misogynistic, a cheater, obviously very screwed up in the head whether he actually murdered those people or not...but he's conventionally attractive and rich so it's okay, right?
Chelsea is really good at this, she reminds me a lot of James with how they similarly present the movies in a comedic while descriptive manner. Job well done!
I love how James has mentioned multiple times that this is one of Chelsea's favorites, and I kinda love that she's the one who ultimately did this count... well played you two, well played

@@Killer-Frost18x no because i love his hosting because he’s so funny his jokes are amazing and he’s the embodiment of a fanbase it’s funny, Chelsea is my second favorite, especially because her voice is so soothing, James is third but he’s still great
Honestly, I laugh my ass off during Paul's death scene every time because Christian unintentionally pulled off the greatest Jim Carrey impression of all time and it takes away any creepiness in that scene for me and makes it feel like a comedy
Literally my 2nd favourite horror movie, it’s such a dark yet funny film and it’s amazing seeing Chelsea do a kill count on a movie that I love so much( 7:28 also missed opportunity to reference “ITS GRENADINE!” )
No, the woman at the traffic light, the homeless man and Paul Allen were all real murders. The rest of the murders were clearly Bateman hallucinating because of the over the top horror movie quality, the fact they are totally out of the confines of realism and the fact he was getting himself into situations where he would of been caught pretty much certainly yet somehow doesn't.
Which is kinda funny how that truned out because the detective entering should be scary to patrick and therefore the audince since most of the movie is his pov So a unrelated movie unintentionally improved a film that is much older
My favorite bit about the chainsaw scene is the fact that Patrick’s running through the hall naked, but is apparently too high class to go barefoot and decides to put shoes on 😂
"That night, Patrick walks home through the alleyway where Joe Chill shot his parents" That one went so smoothly, i love it! Good job on the kill count Chelsea!
When I first watched this, some 4 years ago, with my dad from start to finish. I realized that 1. The way he talked throughout was disturbing, with that somewhat calm but almost dream-like and whispery tone. AND 2. The other thing I realized, especially by the ending, was how much Jean actually cared about Patrick because she basically cries when she sees how far down in his own mental illness he's gone from the beginning to the ending. It doesn't make me sorry for him, it makes me more sorry for Jean.
I like to think that Patrick doesn't even have Bale's looks. That's just how he sees himself while the rest of the world sees someone even more mundane. Great Kill Count!
@@it_is_what_it_is269 While I’m sure a lot of people would agree, the whole point is that it’s ambiguous. Maybe he did do these things, maybe he didn’t. So it can’t be said for certain either way.
I tend to not like when youtubers have other people host their videos, but somehow dead meat has masterfully had 3 hosts that capture the style an overall feel for the kill counts while also making it their own. great job dead meat!
@@yimothyyarles7854 Yeah that's not really what I meant. It's different though, different voice slightly different pacing and perspective. It's welcomed in my book.
I think the scene where Bryce tries to snap at that other guy doing drugs, but Patrick holds him back, is pretty telling. That's who Patrick is in real life - he's meek, he tries to avoid conflict, and he couldn't actually hurt anyone. Only in his head can he confidently murder all those people.
I've heard a bunch of times that the author confirmed that most of the movie was real, including atleast a few of the murders, because they were frustrated that people kept interpreting it as 'EVERYTHING was in his head'
I literally never comment on any youtube vids. But this channel got me through a lot. I had stage 3 cancer and while going through chemo it was a fun game to see if James would say "get to the kills" or "get to them", as well as guessing golden chainsaw or dull machete. But now with Zoran taking some vids, and Chelsea putting out this BANGER of a count... It's clear that you guys are genuinely putting out the best content on youtube as a team. Thank you so much for everything. You make me want to be good people.
Having Chelsea Rebecca host the next Kill Count is a real honor. Her husband is cool enough to allow his wife to give us the latest. But it would be even better if James, Zoran and Chelsea got together in the next video.
@@that_oneguy00 huh, i get it but still, as much as they are nice to each other they are partners, friendship is beyond them now when they have to support each other and living with each other, ect

I've gotten into so many arguments over the years with friends who think it was all in his head so I appreciate the spot on analysis of the ending. I remember listening to a Bret Easton Ellis podcast years ago where this subject came up and he said that not only does he not have an answer for it, he didn't even find the question interesting.
Whether it was all in his head or not, I find it interesting that when confronted with the possibility of it not having happened, he can't even be sure. He just accepts that life will go on and "...no catharsis"
Chelsea did an amazing job on this one, it's a perfect movie for her first Kill Count and she looked stunning! I love that she actually tackled the critique aspects of the film/novels and includes so much history/behind the scenes of the thought processes behind the crew that helped shape the film. It's also super weird to hear Bale's actual accent.
This was a great kill count on a movie with a nuanced meaning that really managed to review the important themes and motifs of the film while keeping a solid eye on the core of the show's purpose. The only thing I'd be keen to see change is to perhaps see more of Chelsea's style in the counting, which might of course appear subtle, considering her impact and contribution to the channel through its life. Either way, as we go on I'll be keen to see how Chelsea (and Zoran) grows just as James did in his first few dozen kill counts.
James and Zoran have said they plan on swapping between themselves every so often, but Chelsea handles the Podscast full time and is pursuing a career in voice over/Voice acting so I doubt she'd have enough time
I never realized how much I love Chelsea’s voice. How hasn’t she done a Kill Count sooner?!? I’d have zero problems if there was a dual hosted Kill count with James and Chelsea, with bits of commentary between them especially if they both watched the movie together
She is more relaxed in the podcast so she sound more engaged and less monotone all the time. The podcast is great on the episode she does a deep dive on
My favourite interpretation of the film is that the only "murder" scene that is actually true is Lewis due to his inability to actually do it, with him only imagining the rest
This is probably the perfect first film for Chelsea to review. A female directed movie that has heavy themes of gender and satire of masculinity, and Chelsea presenting the video gives a different perspective from how James would’ve had. Love it!
Yes, satire but not actually making fun of said gender, which I like best out of the film, especially since it makes fun of the people I hate most such as the yuppies and corporatists who are no different than the very man sitting next to them.
I love the podcast, and when James said about Chelsea doing a kill count about American psycho. I was really excited since I loved this movie and grew up watching it. And Chelsea did not disappoint, hope she can do more kill counts!
I would have NEVER guessed that this was your first kill count, I had just assumed you'd done some that I had missed since I don't watch them all. Wow, well done what a fun episode!
“Since he’s at 3 stars now the helicopters are out at full force” killed me😂😂 Honestly this is one of my favorite videos y’all have ever done. Chelsea is amazing at this. Really, all of y’all are, but this video is really good

Fantastic kill count by Chelsea, she’s awesome and I really hope to see her hosting more kill counts in the future. Perhaps a shared rota with James and Zoran too. For her first kill count she rocked. Also huge congratulations on your marriage James and Chelsea.
I love how so far each kill-count host has their own unique feel and focus to the counts. James is the classic, of course, who will go into stuff like practical effects and music, behind the scenes stuff that shows how the movie was made. Zoran goes into characters and the “fan” trivia (thank you for making us gun nerds happy Zoran), he’s tuned into what the general and broader audience may like. Chelsea has the theories and motives down, what may have happened or what the meaning or implications behind a specific action may have been, she shows off the beauty of the writing. That’s not to say they don’t acknowledge the rest of these parts, these are just where they shine through and may focus a bit more. For a guy like me who loves every little bit about horror movies, I adore the genuine passion behind this show and thank you all for your work. Also Chelsea weirdly reminds me of the lady from WatchMogo but that’s a me thing
I've really enjoyed the contrasting styles from the different hosts. If James is the standard, Zoran was more animated and leaned further into the gags, while Chelsea is poised and more controlled. It's fair to have a favorite, but I've enjoyed seeing the different takes. Great work everyone!

Oh damn I actually like that one
one possibility is that he did kill Paul Allen (the real one), but as shown in the movie by how shallow everyone is in the sense "no one knows no one", that means after a while, no one cared Patrick killed the real Paul and let it go.
Just like how most people never know who Patrick is and always confuse him with someone else, how can we tell Carnes didn't do the same with Paul Allen by mistaking the guy he had seen in London?
@@abrahammesrajecorrea2349 oh yes absolutely another valid theory

I always figured that when the girl asked him what he does for a living she heard "Mergers and Acquisitions" because of the loud music blurring him saying "murders and executions". They sound too similar for it to be a coincidence.
Have you read the book? Because if I remember correctly she asks him to repeat his answer to the question and he changes his response to exactly that - "mergers and acquisitions", not "murders and executions"... it's a very good adaptation but the book still contains many aspects that are impossible to portray through the cinematic medium.

i dont think dicaprio in 2000 could've but now i think he could pull it off
He brought the character to life, commercially and artistically.
damn jim carrey sounds amazing for this tho.
DiCaprio was originally supposed to play his role
Something that i like about the ending speech, is that even though Patrick is a pathetic evil man, i kind of feel bad for him because, as i interpret it, he actually wants to be found out so that he could mature through the consequences, him being constantlly protected by his privileges prevents him from developing his character, as if there is no real Patrick Bateman but he internally wants Patrick Bateman to become real and he just can't and never will be able to.
He's exactly like everyone around him except he knows he's lying, and it drives him insane
i love that about the ending and notice the differences between the two times patrick confesses that he killed people, one was out of utter regret and sadness, and the other (when he was talking to his lawyer in person) seemed more mad and "fucking take me seriously" and it really enforces your interpretation
The killing is his sick way of trying to stand out among other selfish rich people who don't even know each other's names let alone notice murders are going on around them.
Its like he is cursed with being a Ten to One percenter and he is trying to gain some level of identity.
During the confession scene you can seem him be relieved after confessing to his lawyer. Since even if he does get away with all of it he at least knows that someone else knows and that he’s not keeping this giant secret all to him self

I was so amazed to find out that Christian Bale and Josh Lucas actually worked together again in Ford v Ferrari. They had so many scenes together.
Love it!
@Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades why comment then? 😥😨
I agree. I like Chelsea hosting as well. She's got a fun different energy hosting. Like how Zoran had a different hosting style
Ok nerd
@Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades oh shit guys, we’ve got a badass over here.
Yes, satire but not actually making fun of said gender, which I like best out of the film, especially since it makes fun of the people I hate most such as the yuppies and corporatists who are no different than the very man sitting next to them.
I can’t believe this is Chelsea’s first kill count
She literally killed it
But where’s James?
are you serious?
@@cyvader101 my bad dawg, i was absent from the channel thats why im asking💀
@@thesovietunion8385 dont know why they’re treating you like you’ve sinned, totally normal question dude.

I love that this movie also has probably the most star studded cast of any early 2000s movies.
“Since he’s at 3 stars now the helicopters are out at full force” killed me😂😂
Honestly this is one of my favorite videos y’all have ever done. Chelsea is amazing at this. Really, all of y’all are, but this video is really good
Lmao
Yeah in the GTA games getting 3 stars always spawns choppers.

Me: LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BATEMAN: You like Dead Meat?
ALLEN: Um, they're okay.
BATEMAN: Their early work was a little too Short for my taste. But when The Scream kill counts came out in 2017 I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole Kill Count Backlog has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the Channel a big boost. He's been compared to the Carnage Count, but I think James has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
ALLEN: Hey, Halberstram?
BATEMAN: Yes, Allen?
ALLEN: Why are there copies of the Style section all over the place? Do you... Do you have a cat? A little Lucy or something?
BATEMAN: No, Allen.
ALLEN: Is that a raincoat?
BATEMAN: Yes, it is. In 2022 Dead Meat had a change in kill count hosts. I think their undisputed masterpiece is the American Psycho Kill Count A host so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the kills. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of our new host and the importance of change. It’s also a personal statement about the film itself. Hey, Paul!
AAAAAGH!
Color me surprised seeing Chelsea doing the kill count, but pleasantly so. Took to it like a natural. And for one of my favorite movies at that.
Yea she did really good
@@friendlyghost9766 I just want a normal kill count not all these random feminist remarks

Fantastic kill count by Chelsea, she’s awesome and I really hope to see her hosting more kill counts in the future. Perhaps a shared rota with James and Zoran too. For her first kill count she rocked. Also huge congratulations on your marriage James and Chelsea.
Impressive, very nice, now let's see Paul Allen's killcount.
Great description of how their styles vary!
It’d be awesome if the show had rotating hosts 👀 or maybe Zoran and Chelsea could return just often
I agree with you. Zoran was more animated and did more jokes, while Chelsea is more serious.
I will say I love everyone in their ways of hosting including Chelsea, but my favorite has to be Zoran for sure
I gotta say, Chelsea did an excellent job in her own Kill Count. Would be cool to see her again in another KC.
Nice profile picture
That's james in disguise
No james just changed how he looks
