      You mean common? Because while true, it's more common than you'd think. Everyone who pointed out that the Barbie movie is feminist trash is right, but only half-right. However, the lefties who praised it failed their own media literacy test. As it turns out, Barbie is a botched attempt at marrying feminist themes with humanist themes.

    Do you like Dead Meat? Their early work was a little too new media for my taste. But when Halloween (2018) KILL COUNT came out in '19 I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The video has a clear, crisp look and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the kills a big boost. James and Chelsea have been compared to FoundFlix, but I think Dead Meat has a far more cynical sense of humor.

    The business card scene is absolutely perfect, not only is the word acquisitions spelled wrong on all of them. Everyone in the office gives the wrong information about the font, the color, and even the texture. This really shows up in Bateman's scene where he looks at Paul Allen's card because get this, None of what he says about the card is right, this scene shows exactly what the book could never cover, the insane Ego of all these men who don't even understand what to be proud of.

      he apparently does this a lot more in the book, but hes so unaware of the pop culture he seemingly loves that he gets a lot of it wrong (idk if its mentioned in the movie, but he repeatedly calls the girl on the les miserables poster eponine - the girl pictured is actually cosette)

    • @WalkerOfTheWastes
      @WalkerOfTheWastes 2 роки тому

      @@iwakeupandboomimarat He gets quite a lot about pop culture wrong, both in the movie and in the book.
      The reason is because Patrick Bateman is a personality void; everything he repeats is just from magazines, interviews, quotations from others, and publications. He has no thoughts or principles of his own, much like his fellow yuppies; the only difference between him and them is that he is partially aware of it. It's one of the reasons he 'kills;' he's so desperate to stand out (despite his repeated statements that he wants to fit in) that he engages in increasingly brutal, horrific murders to find some manner of standing out, but no-one cares; no-one cares because his victims, like his "friends," are all interchangable people. Disposable, faceless meat for the grinder. No-one cares, and no-one knows or cares to know.
      Even when he confesses at the end (which is a lot more ambiguous in the book than the movie) no-one believes him, and even if they did, who cares? The people in his life are all coke-snorting bigoted, shallow, vapid caricatures; everything is commodified and sold, people included, so the odds are that even if they believed he was a serial killer, they'd shrug. That's part of the point; no-one knows anything about anything, because no-one cares to know. Just like Patrick's popculture errors go over peoples heads.

      No, the woman at the traffic light, the homeless man and Paul Allen were all real murders. The rest of the murders were clearly Bateman hallucinating because of the over the top horror movie quality, the fact they are totally out of the confines of realism and the fact he was getting himself into situations where he would of been caught pretty much certainly yet somehow doesn't.

    15:43 my god this direction is genius to me!! This movie is so fascinating but what’s more so is how it’s been received. It’s genuinely terrifying how many men think that Bateman is aspirational, and want to emulate him. Despite him not only being a murderer but so pathetic as to be devastated and jealous over business cards! Just another example in history of the patriarchy taking something criticizing them as a compliment.

      Another terrifying aspect is how many women find Bateman attractive. I'm assuming he's attractive to the "I can fix him" type of women, but he literally murders people (hypothetically), is homophobic, misogynistic, a cheater, obviously very screwed up in the head whether he actually murdered those people or not...but he's conventionally attractive and rich so it's okay, right?

    AND 2. The other thing I realized, especially by the ending, was how much Jean actually cared about Patrick because she basically cries when she sees how far down in his own mental illness he's gone from the beginning to the ending. It doesn't make me sorry for him, it makes me more sorry for Jean.

My running theory has always been what Chelsea said - nobody in the story cares about anyone but themselves, so they confuse each other for various other people coz they all look the same and they don't actually care. Patrick might have even thought he killed Paul, but in reality he killed someone else, someone he didn't care enough to realize wasn't Paul.

Patrick had wanted to go about with these kills, but he never did because he knew that he would be caught easily by everyone else. I'm pretty confused with that whole Elizabeth scene. One moment, Patrick is in the bed going at it with Elizabeth, and then he stabs her and Christie runs away. But a few scenes later, she's dead on the bathroom floor? Was Christie running for that long that Elizabeth had enough time to stumble out and die in the bathroom? Did Patrick quickly throw her in there and proceed to chase Christie? Or is it just another "unexplainable mystery" in this movie-- where she somehow teleported to the bathroom or that it's her clone, and that it was all a figment of Patrick's imagination?
