Last year I tried it using their bags, it quickly filled up with flies and maggots. meaing they are breeding in the bags. So I added some dish soap to the water which killed everything. I love your idea.
The big tubs of pork rinds or cheese puffs are perfect to repurpose. And you get to eat the pork rinds and cheese puffs as a by product. (So to speak;) Oh, and I use dog poop and an egg as bait. It's organic, renewable, non GMO, and gluten free.
Great idea. However I very much like the way she did it for the video because it made it much easier to fully see EVERYTHING that was being shown without too many other changes. EVERYTHING was FULLY CLEAR. But if not doing a video, your idea is also AWESOME. Thank u-4 sharing. 🥰
That was AMAZING!!! Thank u-4 sharing. I would like to know is there away I can have this indoors without that bad smell. My main thing is that I just want to catch the flys that come indoors. Not so much the outdoors. I know they have to live SOMEWHERE, I just don't want them to live with me. Nore do I want the bad small.🤔
I'd say go for it. Just figure how to way to secure it so it does not knock over and as far as the smell, If there is a smell? Just experim& see how it goes.
That is a good idea. I need to get a larger bucket like you have. We have used a smaller one and it just fills up so fast. After the first smelly packet to attract them we just started putting in water and then throwing in a small amount of meat that will decay and attract the flies. So far that has worked but it takes a couple of days to start attracting the flies.
Do you find that after a few months the amount of flies you catch has reduced at all? I'm wondering if constantly taking them out of your area impacts the population or do more quickly move into the vacated neighborhood.
I just bought the reusable container from same brand but it’s too small after seeing all that many flies getting attracted to it, I have never used them before cause I never had a fly issue as this year it’s been horrible, I don’t have any farm animals but flies are getting inside my house every time we open the doors. Thank you for posting this video I’m going to try it. Just one question, does it have to be protected from rain ?
Could you put a garbage bag inside so when it’s full you just cinch it up and toss. Then you have easier disposal?
Yes for sure!
Thank you so much this is saving me a lot of money from a senior on fixed income, you have been a blessing.
@@Karen-ib4jc glad it helped!

Love that!!!😂 thank u-4 sharing.

Loves this idea. I'm making this today. Large capacity and reusable
@@bbqfisherman69 thank you it works GREAT!

Absolutely Genius! Great job and yes I will try this!
I saw someone posted online how to make diy fly bait mimicking that stuff.
I’ll have to look up the mimicking stuff!
This is an amazing idea! I never thought about using the top of those on a bucket. That’s what I’m doing asap! Thank you so much!!!
I by the dumpable pots but this will save me dumping as often! Thanks :)

I have thought about doing the small piece of meat as well!
What was the size of the hole saw you used? Thanks!
Genius, great DIY!
Thank you.
Did the canned bait work as well
Yes it did!

I did not see a reduced # of flies.
This is a great idea but hot glue doesn’t like water coat the cap in superglue
Did not know that- it has been in the rain and held up so far but if it doesn’t I’ll use super glue!
I think the problem is when pressure is applied it might hold up for a while in this application
I will be trying this
All that in only 18 hours 😮😮😮😮
Was the stuff in the can fly poison or fly attract?
It is both.
You don't need that bait. You can easily make fly attractant that doesn't have an odor. Having this many flies and maggots might vary your results.
Very interesting
Thanks.
Why not just use sardines as bait super cheap and flys will attack it almost instantly.
@@daviddeskins8322 I suppose you could use that.
come to support, thank you for sharing interesting videos, I like your content, keep up the good work, always success for all of us
Is the bait toxic? Could you feed the dead/ captured flies to chickens?
Yes it’s toxic
how did you use the starbar fly bait?
I put some in the bucket with some water

Rain does get into it but not very bad and you can dump it after rain if need to.
@@mickelsonfamilyhomestead thanks for your reply!
That fly bait is 20 bucks for a 1# jar.
So many flies in there they're creating their own wind vortex 😂
It do work but the smell tho 🤢
That has got to have a horrid smell.
lol no I don’t smell it - it’s not near an area where I hang out.
