I bought a couple of those Captivator fly traps several years ago. Over time I found that a large glass jar with a neck for a hanging wire, and an opening to fit the Captivator top is a permanent catcher that cleans easily . Furthermore, THE VERY BEST (and free) attractant is a couple of dead bluegills. Hang the trap in a nearby tree. After about a day you will begin catching so many flies that you will need to use them to feed the fish in the pond every 2-3 days. I have two traps I made that way, and we have had maybe 5-6 flies TOTAL in the house in THE PAST FIVE YEARS. FREE TIP: Once there are 6-8 inches of flies inside, spray briefly with brake parts cleaner. BOOM! You will IMMEDIATELY kill about 10,000 flies. They rot and attract even more flies. The brake parts cleaner evaporates in about a minute and the trap goes back to work. You can thank me later.
Some additional fly know-how. By adding a drop or two of dish soap to a trap, the flies will be dead very soon after they enter. Soapy water leads to rapid extermination because it wreaks havoc with insects' exoskeleton causing it that to break down. If you add some bright yellow color or bright yellow-green color to any trap whether it is a purchased or homemade trap, you will attract many more flies. Just don't cover up all of the see-through area. I actually use plain old yellow frisbees set out on the ground by my vegetable garden, and with some soapy water in them, they catch hundreds of flies every day just setting there with no real 'trap' feature involved. Also, I have read that some types of flies are attracted to certain shades of blue.
I saw this video while researching the best fly trap. We bought two of them today at Tractor supply (they were cheaper there). We put one up early this afternoon. Went back out this early evening, not a single fly on our patio, not 1. Fly trap full of flies. I’m sold.
A 2ft x 2ft wire cage with 1/2 in wire will work...put a post in your pond and afix the cage to the top of the post which is about 6 to 12 inches above the water . fill the cage with fish scraps etc. The flies come to the odor and land and lay eggs, the the eggs turn to maggots and the fall through the wire to waiting fish.....This works great and feeds the fish.
Gr8 vid. I purchased 4 fly catchers that used plastic bags for containment. Being that they are only $5 people rather buy new ones instead of reusing them because they aren't sure how. In addition, where I lived, each bag would fill in less than a month. So 4 more months it would come to 5months X 4 bags X $5ea. = $110. Please note that the bags work in the identical way the Starbar does, which uses bait, a vented inverted conical plastic piece and water. So when my traps filled with flies I emptied the bags into the flower garden before recycling them as per instructions on the bags. However, rather than purchase 12 more, which seemed dubious, I was strolling through 99¢ Store I found these perfect size hard plastic containers with twist on lids. They would be perfect. Then I got home and cut out those conical pieces from the old traps so I could mount them on the bottoms of the new container lids, which I bore out using a hot nail. Then I epoxied the old cones to the under side of the new lids using cheap epoxy, which I also got at the 99¢ Store. Then in with the beef and water and there they've been working for years.
My parents have chickens we use a mason jar with holes big enough for the fly to get threw and in the mason far we put maple syrup with cut up hot dogs
When I was a kid, my father made his own fly trap on our farm (Australia). He got a 4 gallon bucket and placed a brick inside on its end, central to the base. Then he added water to about half the brick height. He placed some liver on top of the brick to attract the flies. The top of the bucket had a fly-wire / mesh lid with a cone / funnel at the centre leading in for the entry. The flies would crawl down to the liver and not be able to get out again. It worked well, but stunk, so you'd have to sit it somewhere away from people.
I saw the same traps at Tractor Supply and almost bought one, but thought it was probably like all the others. Now I need to go back and buy them. Thanks for the info.
THANK YOU! Ran right down to True Value Hardware & bought one after watching your video. I barely set it up on the patio and within 30 seconds had my first victim! I was really starting to hate my patio because of the flies, but this makes me love being out here again!
Have you looked into what Jonathon Lundgren says about flies? If I remember correctly, if you can get a good population of decomposed bugs such as dung beetles, it will elongated the or significantly decrease the fly issue. Also, you won’t get these dung beetles and other beneficial decomposes if you’re using dewormers and ivermectin. If you’re doing set stocking with all your animals then you’ll need to be using the wormers. If you’re able to do rotational grazing at all, and able to give your pastures a long enough rest to break the parasite cycles then you can work towards removing wormers.
When asked to describe insect species that can pollinate flowers, most people think of bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. However, flies are critical pollinators in both natural and agricultural systems. A recent analysis of crop species found that flies visited 72% of the 105 crops studied (bees visited 93%). Who hates flys but still hates seeing them struggle 🤣 I came here look for a fly trap because the new smaller home we moved into seems to collect the gross creatures! I just subbed btw:))
Did you know that flies have personalities. With patience and a little kindness, a fly can make a great pet, and they can be a very strategic source of information gathering.
Another great & very useful product review! Thanks Blake. I can certainly appreciate these informative videos. Hope you have a great day on the farm. Take care. 🐝☮️☯️
Wow Daddykirbs! Man that's a lot of flies brother, I'd definitely agree with you that the trap from TSC is definitely a great purchase! We have flies here bad as well in Tifton, GA this time of year and it's a constant battle keeping em out of he house, will definitely be giving it a try, the TSC here is only 4 blocks away, thanks man!
Used to have chickens. I live in the city and the flies were just to much even though I was always cleaning the coop it didn't matter. This is great product and real funny at the end about her new hobby. :) Thank you
Lol "I get nothing out of this video except for the affiliate commission every time you click my Amazon link. And the Patreon subscriptions. Can't forget the Patreon subscriptions."
Our front door is blue and we have the same problem. Maybe we should paint it a different color. Thanks for the link I well be ordering a couple of traps soon.
Nematodes. It's weird but it works. There are three varieties...get the one for flies. I use them around my bees and once I treated...flies got scarce. The fly variety also kills small hive beetles in the ground when they're pupating. Killing flies was an unexpected benefit.
I don't know if you saw pilgrims biting fly trap which is constructed with trap and toss at the top of it, a black ball at the bottom inside of the structure, and a structure composed of black netting shaped in a trapezoid to direct them into the top upon which the trap and toss device is mounted. I believe the trap and toss works under the same principle as the one you used. The big difference is that the bug ball under and inside the structure attracts more horse flies and deer flies. Anyway thanks for sharing your experience, take care.
I live in north central Florida. We’ve had a horrible time with flies since we replaced a patio door about 3 weeks ago. I’m starting this inside to catch the ones I can’t get rid of and plan on moving it outside.
I have used a fly bag that I purhcase at Home Depot for years and it works the very same way. It is inexpensive and when full all you have to do is close the top and throw in the outside garbage can. They can get in but do not know how to get out and they drown. I use about two a summer her in Mobile, AL.
Most people dont know that flies LOVE laundry powder. Cleaned clothing is 'warmer' due to luandry powder. If you clean with acid instead, flies will not be attracted to clothing.
Flies are attracted to the color Blue and are repelled by the color Yellow, research it on the internet. and if your outside lights attract flying insects use a yellow globe it certainly reduces the amount and therefore less spiderwebs.
Thanks for the info. Have you found more options? I'm interested in what animals or insects would do the job naturally. I'd love to get more dragon flies in my property as an example, I just don't know how.
Thanks for the info papa kirbs - we have had cluster flies here this year. Kill twenty or thirty at a time. Fifty or more a day sometimes 🙁 It's a lot of work zapping them with a bug zapper. Looks like your trap works great! Don't know as I'd like to try it indoors though unless they have one that doesn't stink. Thanks again for the info daddy And rember - if we love God and obey while we're here we'll be with Him on the other side 🙂
40 years...I had no Idea there were wingless ducks...also have to clean the flies out regularly or they will make baby flies inside that can/may get out of it.
I have made traps with 2 litre coke bottles with the cap on and an opening or two cut down low on the side. I used beer to attract them. Filled the bottom of the bottle up to the openings. Left it outside, forgot about it, came back days or weeks later and it was a seething hell of flies. Still more were crazy to get into it. I bought some beer this summer, but neither the slugs nor the flies seem to like it. I have an idea though for an extremely secret ingredient called pee that seems to attract lots of flies.
"Rescue Flystik" Completely amazing 24 hrs. Completely full it is a tower with really sticky stuff on it. And I didn't get any on me handled it alot looking at the flies land everywhere
To kill flies in your house -after dark, turn off all the lights, but leave your TV on. They will be at the TV in no time, swat them with your swatter and sleep well. But I am sure you already know this, plus who has time to wait for dark? Lol!
It works I bought two, its true, the problem is, I have to throw them away 4 days later, why? Because the smell is do strong it attracts the flies from the whole block, so all my neighbors where flies free thanks to me, but my whole backyard was full of flies, worst thatn before!!! Those containers got so full in two hours, as I said it works, but no for a house, perhaps for a farm, if you hang them far away from your house.
Almost 100k subscribers! Good video, I don't have flies but gnats. Haven't found a successful trap for them yet which has caused casualties to my indoor plants.

Your Spot on with the Brake Cleaner!!
What are bluegills ? Like u have determined it’s the attractant that’s important 🙂
A small fish.
It is so satisfying to see that plethora of flies trapped in that container as their pitiful souls are slowly dragged to hell from where they came.

I see light comming in around your door you need to get some weather stripping around that door that will help some
Thanks for sharing❤❤❤
paint the door in a dark color. insects are driven to light. ..

wow I'm really surprised, that one didn't work for me at all. The taller green on catches 500x more for me. Maybe I got an old one.
So this one actually turned out better in the long run just takes a couple weeks to really get going
So does it work inside?

Thank you my Brother! ✌🏾
Outstanding
My gosh the flies are bad at our house also! Thanks for info!!
so what for the kitchen?
Awesome cheerful video THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thanks!
i am checking out the trap right now!! dream come true trap!!
I think you will find if you hand them no more than shoulder high it will work better for all. Seems the lower the better. Just try it out.
What does it smell like? I have a small backyard so I just want to know what smell I'm getting into before hand :) thanks for sharing!
right up close it's unpleasant. I don't know how to describe the smell. Not really like poo, not so much like death... but certainly not pleasant.

We use this same trap in our chicken coop and it’s AMAZING!!!! 👍🏼
We had flytraps, in our gorse barn, BIG grey spiders.
So the fly's can't get out? What about a bug zapper?
Thanks we have a lot of flies during summer here in australia
Guuhhaahhhh! 🥴
Oh yea! It’s workin!
They gather at our laundry room door also- why???
What are they after? They is so much yummy stuff for them outside.

For gnats indoors put a small bowl of apple cider vinegar near where they congregate.
@@whatshername369 Thanks but I have them around the house with a different set up. Its soap, apple vinegar & water...Its not enough

That is what I thought
What would be good was if the packet to attract them was actually suitable for consumption because then you could feed the dead flies to your chickens
Try putting four coins in a zip lock bag with water half way up bag tie it off with string then attach around or near door !!
Why does this work?
I hear that salt guns work good
I think that product is awesome!
I will be trying this thanks!
This is good for me because I have a pet 🐸 frog
