@@magmapixel8627 I know it's just so refreshing especially since this isn't a massive tentpole movie. Makes me excited for what we'll be seeing in upcoming films

The show is great and fun so far. It doesn’t have to be deep to be fun, but the show is still a lot deeper than I personally was expecting. The little At Attin mystery in particular is very interesting, and was unexpected.
Im thinking its just supposed to be the planet humans originally settled at referencing a galaxy far far away explaining why this planet has similar architecture to earth civilization
@ “long, long time ago” doesnt specify any specific amount of time or when the story was being told relevant to our existence, and a different galaxy doesnt mean its not the same universe…
Woah, Finally a good Skeleton Crew video! I'm hoping for this show to be as good as the trailer shows it to be, and not a show that just gains dust. It looks amazing, and the plot seems good too.
Always love your videos and comments especially the geopolitical ones. However, as an old gal I hope we adults leave this show to the kids. I grew up with Lost in Space (1960’s) which set me off on a lifetime of loving anything set in space, Sci-fi, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury et al. Thank you Alan for pointing out this series is primarily for children, I hope it ignites a life long love of all things sci-fi, space themed, fantasy which has enriched my life and will hopefully enrich the younger generations coming up. Please grown ups don’t sour it for them.
I was definitely not expecting the first episode to open with a huge pirate battle, and the mystery about what's up with their home planet is already more interesting than what The Acolyte tried to do in its's first 2 episodes. Also, I liked the nod to Andor when they name dropped Aldhani. Wasn't really expecting that to come back except maybe during Andor season 2.
It’s fun huh? Star Wars has always been kid friendly at the core. This gets us back there to clone wars and maybe even the original trilogy. Or at least episode one 😂
I was hesitant about this one. But every Star Wars youtuber is giving it glowing reviews, even the most critical ones. Definitely will be checking it out.
I've been describing this series to my folks as "Goonies in Star Wars." When watching it, I both agreed that At Attin looked a little too suburban for Star Wars and recognized my younger self in the characters. I was that kid who had pretend lightsaber fights and read a lot of history and fantasy books. I also remember the animosity between boys and girls, especially the kind of girl who thinks she's so smart and can talk her way out of any situation. This show brought me back to childhood. I also picked up on the Pirates of the Caribbean vibes in Episode 2.
Thanks for your review. Having watched part of the first episode, I had the feeling that At Attin is a lost High Republic colony that has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for centuries. The reference to the Republic (not the New Republic) and Great Works was a clue. I read in the Wikipedia article that the series was originally going to be set in the High Republic era but that the showrunners decided to move it to the New Republic era. Even Star Wars Theory has praised the first two episodes, which is a relief.
Kinda funny the shows everyone was hyped for (Ahsoka/BOBF/Mando S3) had mixed reactions while the show not many people were excited for (SC) is getting pretty good reviews
Depends what you mean by reviews. The critics from major media outlets loved those shows you mentioned, only after they were being aired did less positive reviews appear. As for this one, not surprised its getting good reviews, but its not for everyone. It's a kids show and that isn't what many people find fun. Oddly Star Wars has always been for kids, so I was a little confused why they spent so much money on this show to attract a kid audience
Mando S3 just compounded the issues we started with in BOBF, the fact we couldn't get a single episode that season without Grogu by his side says it all. In my opinion they shouldn't have reunited them so fast, especially not in a completely different show that shouldn't have had Mando in it to begin with. Cobb Vance should have been the Mando role showing up to save the day alongside someone that he kinda stole his armor and wouldn't see eye to eye with at the start due to Boba being a prior enforcer for Jabba and probably causing trouble for people like Cobb and the others of that town. Instead they stuck him in a bacta tank and we have no idea if we will ever see Cobb come back.
I'm excited to see your review. For my own thoughts quick, I love the look of the show, it looks incredible, SM-33 was awesome, and the kid characters are quite fun to watch actually, overall I'm quite optimistic for this show, can't wait to see the future episodes and see how some mysteries are solved.
It was better than I expected as well. Wonder if Jude Law is actually a jedi, or if that's just some parlor trick to get them to lead them to their hidden planet.
Ready Player One was a power fantasy. Dude saves the world, has unlimited money, even points out the stagnation of life. After saving the world, he keeps the money to his friends, and limits the use of VR. Dude could of built a new society, use VR to train new skills to people, but he kept it to his own circle. Nothing has changed except for him.
Actually it’s Treasure Island in space. Or Treasure Planet with Star Wars guys, depending on how you wanna look at it. Disney doing a rehash, of their own rehash, of their own live action rehash, of R.L. Stevenson’s book.
Any other High Republic fans thinking that At Attin decided to keep some of the Stormwall technology? Enjoying this so far, thanks for the review! I laughed quite hard about the werewolf pirate being named Brutus, having known more than one German Shepherd with that name.
I'm not too familiar with the HR stuff, but that would probably make sense considering they kept talking about "The Great Work" which we haven't heard any other of the New Republic stuff mention before if I remember correctly. That sounds more like a high/old republic era thing, kinda like post ww2 era US. A by gone era that has remained in a bubble is a very interesting way to go about things, especially the fact they talk so much about the Jedi in an era where most still think the Jedi are urban legends or remember the stories the Empire would tell to try and keep people in line.
I like how you said Goonies In Space, hits it right on point. And next generation Star Wars. I hope the culture doesn't mess this up for future Star Wars fans

Skeleton Crew is soooo good! So funny! I love how they incorporated what many fans have done: play lightsabers complete with making the sound. My favorite SW quote is now, "My guts! They're everywhere!"

While the former didn’t quite stick the landing, it certainly didn’t collapse in dubious disaster like the later, so I’m hoping “The Skeleton Crew” can sore clear above the acceptable Ahsoka bar and FAR above and beyond the Acolyte smoking crater.
Honestly I'm shocked they made it at all. Such an entertaining show, makes me remember childhood, my friends and why we loved Star Wars and Spielberg to begin with.

The most intriguing part of this show so far is the mysterious planet the kids come from. I don't like how short episode 2 was. I enjoyed it, so far it's more interesting than Ahsoka and Acolyte and I'm a TCW/Rebels fan.

Every generation has their own thing. Lucas Arts sub contracted to different companies so that they supported the creation of new development studios to increase the amount of unique entertainment we had, with them being an important part so they were never left behind. Now that it is all under one roof, so to speak, the question of 'who is it for' is important as if it is for a new audience and not the old then logic dictate that they expect to build their audience themselves and not rely on fans funneling them the next generation.
I think 8 episodes is plenty to tell the story well. Goonies and Muppets Treasure Island both had under two hours run time and told their stories just fine. This series is probably three times that length, so there's plenty of room for world building and lore. Did anyone else notice that Wim was carrying Old Republic credits? That's like having gold Doubloons for pocket change, or walking into The Broken Drum with 2000 rhinu. Something definitely strange there.
Cautiously optimistic. There seems to be a lot more production value than the Disney Channel quality shows we've gotten recently, besides Andor of course.
Something did seem off about having to pass a career placement test. They are only matching them to potential careers. I've taken a few. In countries with major pass or fail tests, like Germany, those aren't done until much later. I took a few major tests as a kid, but those are more about measuring the school's progress. It was never a big thing I had to pass. There is something dystopian about it.
I'm an old man and I'm liking Skeleton Crew so far. Btw, not all "boomers" think like boomers. Thpbpbpbpbt. And it's not nostalgia either. Amblin style doesn't really mean anything to me.
@@katakesh8566 Because it's Star Wars. I am fed up with people who criticise Disney Star Wars for no other reason than "Disney". I have enjoyed almost all of Disney Star Wars, except the sequel trilogy. Just look at all the detractors Andor got before anyone seen it, now everyone loves it - even those who hated it initially. Give it a chance. Wait till it's finished and then comment.
I like the growth of the "pirate nation" I've always been interested in a 3rd party semi legitimate government forming out of the lawless and wild areas of the galaxy, who are strong enough to hold territory from the empire or republic. The Mandalorians seem to be forming such a group and you also have the pirate nation as well as potentially the crime families, although with Boba Fett not being continued, I doubt we will see much more depth into them. This could be partially an explanation for the civilian fleet from rise of Skywalker but I wouldn't want every project to be beholden to explaining the sequels.
Was quite optimistic watching the first 2 episodes. Felt like a kid again. The serious older one, statistic sister, the scadery cat/elephat and the troublemaker. Light hearted direction that can allow kids to join and let adults broaden their understanding of the world. The empire fell, why so many pirates?
I also like complaining that things are bad quality while having not watched them. It reminds me of when I was a baby and said I didn't like foods that I never tried.
I liked it. Was a good start. But im curious about the time frame. Opening text mentions the New Republic. But how far along? Someone on Facebook shared a timeline meme, that put this righr after Ashoka. Is that accurate?
I kind of mentally wrote off Skeleton Crew, but I'm on board after those first two episodes. Just feels like something that Star Wars was missing the last decade or so.
Well all the Disney+ trailers and mock fan trailers (and videos from this channel, especially the "roads" one) got me excited for this show and it didn't disappoint.
It's funny to see Jude Law in a Stars Wars project b/c he was my first choice to play Anakin Skywalker in the prequels and the fact that he and Ewan MacGregor were roommates and close friends in London at the start of the acting careers. I think that Jude would have way better screen chemistry with Ewan and Natalie Portman than you know who..
The hordes of culture warriors living in a nostalgia echo chamber is one, say anything positive and you'll have grown ass men demanding you tell them why you like that, and who's paying you

No you're right some boomers think like children because you don't have any friends your age.
@Spearhead401 It truly is a pity your life is so pathetic that that is all you have for a reply.
Just shaming people for liking something they didn't, mostly ignorant kids , but you do get the balding gooners in their 50s every once in awhile
Did anyone else notice that Ferns mother is the same lady as the director lady who goes into class and reminds them of the exam?
"if you want them to be weak." 😹I agree with your review. It's fun!
Hey now! Excellent analysis and breakdown. Thanks for the positivity. I'm kind of interested to find what the haters hate this time around.
Star Wars: Goonies are great so far!
Watching with my kids and we’re having a great time!
I love that SM-33 was a nod to Captain Hook's first mate Smee in Peter Pan.
Simple answer: YES.
If you don't watch it you have no right to comment.
I'll bite. Why? Do u mind elaborating?
@@katakesh8566
Because it's Star Wars.
@@stuartgrier5605Watched it, hated it, 2/10 I miss star wars.
@Spearhead401
So you have written off the whole series just after a single episode?
Why did you hate it?
@@stuartgrier5605now your moving your own goal post. They said they watched it and they don't like it.
I enjoyed it and found it fun. The Holiday special cameo was hilarious.
really liked it and much better than I expected
Could you also do a video discussing what would’ve happened if Padme had reported Anakins sand people murder to the Jedi council?
They knew
@ no way
@ I know Yoda could sense pain and screams but did he know exactly what happened?
Well put my man.
Being a gen x-er, I’m going to subvert any expectations, and just enjoy this show.
Gen X nostalgia, star wars Goonies. 👍👍
Honestly Idk what Disney is doing anymore across all their fronts so Im voting with my money for a bit. Quality, not quantity.
Fun so far. No complaints here.
Should I watch this? Or is this gonna be like when you were recommending the Acolyte?
Congratulations on having a wife and a daughter. They are very lucky to have you.
I liked it. Thanks Alan 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Ok..
Still haven't caved for a D+ subscription... might though!.. Great review Alan 👏
wait until andor honestly if you're short on cash ;)
Very good
I really do hope that the "fans" don't mess this up. I really liked this as a whole.
The little alien ferry transport pilot is a Teek from 1985s Ewoks movie Battle for Endor the same year that the Goonies was released.
Well written stories and characters will always do well.
Early af but lets do this
I'm so happy to see a positive Star Wars review in 2024
I forgot this was even coming out. I'm encouraged as I'm hearing good things which shouldn't, but is a rarity for star wars.
the effects were really good
Given to that one of the leads is Jude Law, I’ll go for it
I liked it enough to watch episode 2. Let’s hope it carries on being Star Wars and doesn’t descend into modern tropes.
I was very pleasantly surprised
"let the next generation have their fun"
...? Is... anyone stopping them? very confused by that statement.
The hordes of culture warriors living in a nostalgia echo chamber is one, say anything positive and you'll have grown ass men demanding you tell them why you like that, and who's paying you
You're too young to know that all your dreams is a 30 years fantasy.
