The sad music playing as Jod sees his flag ship crash and burn only for him to give a small smirk, tells me he’s either proud of the kids or just figured out his next scheme. Either way that subtle acting is what made his character so good.

I genuinely love how much you genuinely love Skeleton Crew. I've been following the show through your videos on it (Disney's version of StarWars by and large just isn't for me.) and it does seem interesting. Your videos on Andor convinced me to watch it after you pointed out how nuanced the writing actually was, and your videos on Skeleton Crew are doing the same, so I might reactivate my Disney + subscription for a month and watch this one through as well. Jude Law is a phenomenal, and his character in this does look like a very fun take on a post order-66 force user. Thanks for consistently putting out genuine nuanced video essays on Star Wars. You're hands down the best channel covering the franchise.
Now that we have Disney + back in our list of subscriptions we'll be binge watching Skeleton Crew. Can't wait to see the episodes for myself. Thanks for the very thoughtful reviews.
A rather good depiction in my opinion. Tim Curry in Muppet's version is the best, for adult viewers check out the prequel Black Sails version (though the did Flint dirty).
This one video has taught me more about storytelling and the meaning behind stories and shit like that than english class has throughout all of high school so far (and I'm a senior, so I doubt this fact will change)
The final episode should have been longer, showing At Attin becoming a part of the New Republic and the establishment of a Marshal and Deputies to replace the Droids.
Hopefully more people will watch skeleton crew, enough to make more. I really agree it was a great piece of Star Wars that could introduce for all ages and require no questions Trying to get my ma to watch it
I wish this show got more views. It’s been so amazing. Even acolyte had its charm but so many supposed fans have written everything off since Last Jedi
There are fans of SW that loved Acolyte. Loved what it was attempting, but everyone has differing opinions, that is one of the things that makes a community is differences but still loving the base material.
@@DougOdell-w5g Well said. The Acolyte's debut season wasn't perfect, but it had some great ideas and characters. Also, we should remember that sci-fi classics like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Babylon 5, etc. had rough first seasons, but became great as the creators and actors found their footing.
Cried when it was over with love and nostalgia that I actually was able to go on a real star wars adventure that my 7yr old understood and could follow and fell in love with it he wants more and so do i
I was really impressed with the finale. The story and tension were very good. It used all of its characters very well. The special effects were terrific. I watched this show with my ten year old, and last night she was completely captivated. It was thrilling, it had high stakes, and was all done at a scale that was appropriate for this show. Two scenes really stand out as examples of how Disney+ Star Wars is improving. Back in season 1 of The Mandalorian, a few X-wings showed up. They looked ok, but not great, and it was a moment where it really felt like television quality, as opposed to cinematic quality. It was a reminder that this was Disney+. Later, the speeders in Boba Fett were slow, clunky, and lacking any real tension. However the X-Wings and the speeder chases in last night's episode both looked fantastic. They've come a long way.
Underappreciated moment I think is the fact that Jod peacefully surrenders after the barrier is pulled off. He doesn't shoot up the place in a fit of rage, he doesn't rant do further ranting, he just drops his gun and contemplates to himself while acknowledging he lost in this particular chapter of his life. Perhaps realizing he learned a few lessons along the way even at his age.
If he is indeed a former Jedi Padawan, then he definitely learned a lesson from this whole ordeal that reminds him of something he was simply taught in the past, but never got a chance to experience. Old people have these kinds of experiences all the time, that snap them back to reality, and remind them of a good childhood that somehow got lost. I think that was a turning moment for him, as a character.
We were looking forward to your take on the final episode, and you did not disappoint! BRAVO......Yes they should be making more shows like this and Andor!!
@@claudegrenier3180It was the bully from the first episode who teased Fern and KB. The scene showed he was all talk because he sat there being useless whilst the invasion went on and his victims were the ones saving the planet. Wim's dad obviously took his bike without any resistance, so he was left with nothing.
As a Gen-X kid who grew up with the OT, this movie brought back all the Star Wars childhood feelings. Damn shame we almost certainly won't get a Season 2, but I'm glad they used this opportunity to tell a complete story with an actual ending.
Your introspective take always is greatly loved and anticipated! Skeleton Crew was a time machine show that reminded me of growing up in the original Star Wars era of the time when my school was practically the center of my attention just like the kids in the show. The ending should set up a season two. Really loved seeing the BWings in action and the XWings as always 😊❤
This was the first Star Wars show that my wife sat and watched with me and finished cause it was good. I think, given the space of time, Skeleton Crew will be regarded as one of the best shows of The Disney Era. I hope Disney looks at this and decided to invest in good writing. Also you're the goat of Star Wars Channels.
The one big plot hole in the finale that kind of stood out for me was that how did the supervisor know about order 66 and jedi being declared traitors to the republic, but didn't know about all the wars and the republic becoming the empire and the credits changing completely and all that other stuff surrounding the jedi thing.
Knowing the Old Republic, they probably never programmed it to account for the fall of the Republic. That and the Empire stopped relaying information to focus on all its crazy stuff.
Such a great show. I agree with you, Alan, it’s right up there with Andor. Both shows do prove a couple of things: 1. There is still good Star Wars to be had for both kids and adults. 2. Good shows are few and far between. I hope Skeleton Crew gets another season. Even though this one series does wrap things up very nicely, it would be nice to see this cast and crew get back together again for another adventure.
Kh'ymm the space owl was one of my favorite "new" Star Wars creations. I am not sure that we have seen a live action species like that before. I also suspect that Wendle had been in a swoop gang as a teen. He knew what he was doing on the bike.
Overall it was short & clean ! It left me wanting more and that’s a good thing. It didn’t mess with lore , it told a story about strangers to us and that was refreshing, like Andor in a way . I’d put this in the win column!
It feels like a family adventure movie from the 80s and 90s, but set in the Star Wars universe. I ended up binging it in a few days leading up to the finale. I wished I watched it when it came out 😢 Watching it in one sitting made it feel like a movie though.
Yeah, having some time to think about the episode you just saw and then thinking about what's coming next is a one-time thing. Like some people will watch the OT back to back now without considering what could happen next or what they want to happen next, while as kids we had 3 years between the movies to think about it and read comic books and stuff.
not gonna lie SM-33 is maybe one of the best droids from SW, i dont know why i like his pirate like accent, but i had something that like pulled me to just watch skeleton crew
One of my favorite things about SM-33 is that he is a nod to another non-SW Disney property. In this case, Peter Pan. Smee was Captain Hook's right hand man.
@@DougOdell-w5g //yes he has the "SMEE" name. I believe his character is a bit like Treasure Island's Ben Gunn. He is the old salt left behind on the treasure Island and helps the young folks escape the treacherous Silver/Silvo.
This episode was brilliant and the story is a must watch for Star Wars fans, even though it may not seem right at first. The adventure and heroism is what makes Star Wars so likeable and Skeleton Crew does this so well and enjoyable.
I really hope we get a second season. Such a good story, likeable characters, and a perfect pathway for more adventures down the line. Would be such a disappointment to see this be the end for all them....
Very first episode he did kill someone. Ep 5 he tried to kill the pirates chasing him. Episode 7 he killed Brutus even though he was threatened. And Jod been a pirate for a while. At what point do you guys not understand, Jod has killed😅😅
Alan, Thank you for such a thoughtful historical view of the fandom of Star I know a lot of fans who understood Luke's mindset in the last Jedi. And I also understand why they're so many people who say there's no reason for him to be the way he is the time passed and we don't know what happened. For a lot of us who saw Star Wars as very young adults in '77, real life did just go by and all of a sudden we woke up and found we're disheartened disillusioned disappointed in ourselves but not to have changed the world let alone the galaxy. Every generation entering adulthood is always A New Hope.
That ending was epic! Loved seeing the x-wings and bombers taking out the frigate. And KB and Neel saving the day was awesome as well. It was too bad that we don't get a Jod total redemption, but that smile at the end I think he might have learned something from the kids and that he doesn't have to be so bad. It's unfortunate that the show hasn't had the audience it should, but there is always word of mouth and I think it has got praise from critics across the board for the most part which could save the series. I guess we will find out. Also, does anyone have any ideas about the Jedi that Jod said he learned from?
Man this was definitely my favorite series from Star Wars so far. After seeing alll this talk about Andor I’m gonna have to finish watching Andor. Only watched first 2 episodes
I am 52 and one of my earliest clear memories that was not directly about family was seeing Star Wars first run in the theaters and how much it drove my imagination at the age of 5. I very much enjoyed all of the Skeleton Crew from start to finish and am hopeful there will be other seasons. I loved the Goonies when it released as new teenager who still had not let childhood wonder go at the age of 13. Disney Star Wars needs more writing and shows like this and for the groundwork this 1st season laid for future reintegration to the New Republic storylines before the events of the sequel trilogy.
I watched all your content on the skeleton crew and all your content and the Acolyte (which I liked and was sorry it was canceled) I watched the Acolyte as it came out but I decided to wait to binge the skeleton crew till it was done and you released you first video after the fact I really enjoy your breakdowns and introspections. Thank you.
A rare moment of seeing B-Wing Fighters actually appearing to lay some mayhem with their anti-ship laser weaponry in Skeleton Crew. Compared to Return of the Jedi film where the B-Wing Fighters didn't do anything onscreen than fly around and look cool.
Only Rebels viewers would know what those blasts cost on the ships. They're basically energy blast bombers. They have to bail since the weapon systems are totally spent when they do that .

I love your videos. Thoughtful. Insightful. Constructive. So glad you do this.
I loved this show. It was well done. I looked forward to it every week.
This we want more of this. It doesn't have to be a 2nd season but more stuff like this.
Now that we have Disney + back in our list of subscriptions we'll be binge watching Skeleton Crew. Can't wait to see the episodes for myself. Thanks for the very thoughtful reviews.
I've enjoyed ALL the star wars shows. Some more than others. This one was up there with Andor.
I was like screaming
"COMPOSITE BEAM!" When the B-wings showed up and *USED* it
Jod & Baylan are *genuinely* more interesting characters than ANYONE in the sequel trilogy. I’d love to see someone like Cal Kestis & Jod cross paths
Jod is Long John Silver in space. I love it.
A rather good depiction in my opinion. Tim Curry in Muppet's version is the best, for adult viewers check out the prequel Black Sails version (though the did Flint dirty).
Long Jod Silvo
This one video has taught me more about storytelling and the meaning behind stories and shit like that than english class has throughout all of high school so far (and I'm a senior, so I doubt this fact will change)
The final episode should have been longer, showing At Attin becoming a part of the New Republic and the establishment of a Marshal and Deputies to replace the Droids.
I bet Neil is going to be a marshall some day
Hopefully more people will watch skeleton crew, enough to make more. I really agree it was a great piece of Star Wars that could introduce for all ages and require no questions
Trying to get my ma to watch it
I wish this show got more views. It’s been so amazing. Even acolyte had its charm but so many supposed fans have written everything off since Last Jedi
I did not have its charm the acolyte sucked now skeleton crew was great
Its ok for people to have their own opinion. Its a tv show. The world would be very boring if everyone had the same opinion. @Onemoretoke1
There are fans of SW that loved Acolyte. Loved what it was attempting, but everyone has differing opinions, that is one of the things that makes a community is differences but still loving the base material.
@@DougOdell-w5g
Well said. The Acolyte's debut season wasn't perfect, but it had some great ideas and characters.
Also, we should remember that sci-fi classics like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Babylon 5, etc. had rough first seasons, but became great as the creators and actors found their footing.
Cried when it was over with love and nostalgia that I actually was able to go on a real star wars adventure that my 7yr old understood and could follow and fell in love with it he wants more and so do i
Yeah, this is a solid, solid, show and story. I wish it would get more appreciation
I honestly liked that it was a self contained story, not every IP needs to be connected to other stuff.
no 2nd season would be a huge shame, its not often i can get my kid into a star wars show and this was one
I am 66 and I loved it for sure we will see a nr.2 belive in the Force ;)
Let's just hope Skeleton Crew will be a sleeper hit. I know everyone I managed to convince to watch it actually enjoyed it.
We were looking forward to your take on the final episode, and you did not disappoint! BRAVO......Yes they should be making more shows like this and Andor!!
I loved the moment where Wym’s dad was looking at that one minor character and commandeered his speeder
Like Josh Brolin stealing that little girl's bike in Goonies
🙄 I disagree.... that moment was weak. Didn't even make any sense... but HEY its all good I guess 🤷♂
@@MEBoisv 🤣🤣🤣 I forgot it was just like that moment lol
@@claudegrenier3180It was the bully from the first episode who teased Fern and KB. The scene showed he was all talk because he sat there being useless whilst the invasion went on and his victims were the ones saving the planet. Wim's dad obviously took his bike without any resistance, so he was left with nothing.
I was fully expecting Jod to run off with the ship full of loot like Silver did in Treasure Planet.
As a Gen-X kid who grew up with the OT, this movie brought back all the Star Wars childhood feelings. Damn shame we almost certainly won't get a Season 2, but I'm glad they used this opportunity to tell a complete story with an actual ending.
I think Skeleton Crew will continue to grow in popularity and will reach cult status over time
Your introspective take always is greatly loved and anticipated! Skeleton Crew was a time machine show that reminded me of growing up in the original Star Wars era of the time when my school was practically the center of my attention just like the kids in the show. The ending should set up a season two. Really loved seeing the BWings in action and the XWings as always 😊❤
Skeleton Crew was pretty good. The 4 young actors were really good. #6 & #8 were our favorites. The kids bonding & growth in 6 was really shown in 8.
I love your commentaries, Alan. There's always something to think about and mull over. I truly believe you make us better people.
Just had lots of heart. Lots of tears there in the end for me.
That mic is a good reminder
This was a solid finale! I hope we get a second season! I like that Jod doesn't end up getting redeemed.
Kh'ymm the space owl was one of my favorite "new" Star Wars creations. I am not sure that we have seen a live action species like that before. I also suspect that Wendle had been in a swoop gang as a teen. He knew what he was doing on the bike.
I really needed this show to be about five to ten minutes longer. I was looking forward to that New Republic "WTF?" when they landed.
Haha! "Parent-teacher conference gone wrong"!
I was ROFL when Allen said that.
Overall it was short & clean ! It left me wanting more and that’s a good thing. It didn’t mess with lore , it told a story about strangers to us and that was refreshing, like Andor in a way . I’d put this in the win column!
And this is why we need a Season 2/Movie.
And it has pirate cyborg steve urkel in it!
even though I am sure he hears it a lot. I was hoping for a "Did I do that" moment.
Jaleel White as a cyborg space pirate was inspired casting.
Really enjoyed it
It feels like a family adventure movie from the 80s and 90s, but set in the Star Wars universe. I ended up binging it in a few days leading up to the finale. I wished I watched it when it came out 😢
Watching it in one sitting made it feel like a movie though.
I watched it episode to episode and was satisfied; the Disney TV people know how to make a good show, while LucasFilm makes Dumpster Fires.
Yeah, having some time to think about the episode you just saw and then thinking about what's coming next is a one-time thing. Like some people will watch the OT back to back now without considering what could happen next or what they want to happen next, while as kids we had 3 years between the movies to think about it and read comic books and stuff.
Me and my son loooved this please bring a second and more
not gonna lie SM-33 is maybe one of the best droids from SW, i dont know why i like his pirate like accent, but i had something that like pulled me to just watch skeleton crew
This episode built up to a point where either Jod would have to kill someone or he would give up, abd it being a kids movie kinda decided that
Wim couldn't make the decision to sacrifice his dad in the hopes that the Republic would rescue the survivors.
Very first episode he did kill someone. Ep 5 he tried to kill the pirates chasing him. Episode 7 he killed Brutus even though he was threatened. And Jod been a pirate for a while.
At what point do you guys not understand, Jod has killed😅😅
@ Yes, but I think he didn't want to kill the kids or their parents.
“but they’re also supposed to make us stink” 0:43
☝️😦… 🙁… 🤔
Easily one of the best series from the SW pickings of recent years 👍🏻
i'm sorry you are sick I hope you get better soon. keep it up and may the force be with you
That ending was epic!
Absolutely loved this show!! Right up there with Andor.
Man this was definitely my favorite series from Star Wars so far. After seeing alll this talk about Andor I’m gonna have to finish watching Andor. Only watched first 2 episodes
This show needs a sequel. It is the only way for me that the ending makes sense.
Great analysis here Alan. I totally agree. Also, Kym is definitely the cutest cat/bird in Wars Wars
Thank you.
What an absolutely beautiful show. A wonderful story told simply and shown sublimely
You are a great meta commentator, I will never tire of your content. ^^
A rare moment of seeing B-Wing Fighters actually appearing to lay some mayhem with their anti-ship laser weaponry in Skeleton Crew.
Compared to Return of the Jedi film where the B-Wing Fighters didn't do anything onscreen than fly around and look cool.
Nice Rebels..homage..
Only Rebels viewers would know what those blasts cost on the ships. They're basically energy blast bombers. They have to bail since the weapon systems are totally spent when they do that .
@@hollywoodguy70I don’t remember that part of the B-wing’s anti-ship laser. Does that perhaps come from a schematics book or essential guide?
@@GGBlasterno rebeles series. Towarfs the end of s2
@@AlechiaTheWitch well, I distinctly remember the anti-ship laser. I meant I don’t remember the weapons getting burnt out after. Did that happen in that episode?
Skeleton Crew was sooo good! I am definitely going to miss this show.
SM33 is my favorite droid now
I thought "Skeleton Crew" was an absolutely delightful ride. I hope Disney has the foresight to allow it to continue to grow.
When those X and B wings came in to save the day was core Star Wars IMO.
