  • What Made Andor a Hit While The Acolyte Flopped (Part 1), or Andor vs The Acolyte (Part 1)
    Why is it that despite both Andor and The Acolyte being projects that were not really in demand at first, one has become a fan favorite and the other has not? Let's talk about the most important aspects that separate one show from the other...

    Andor is a mature, well-written, well-acted, and well-directed story. It's everything The Acolyte is not.
    But why? Kathlene Kennedy was kept far away from Andor. So she killed it. At least we get a final season.

    Andor worked for several reasons.
    1. The writer/director was not a Star Wars fan and knew little so came in with an open mind and desire to make something for the IP.
    2. It was about a thing few cared about, a spy. It's mundane, its story can be dumped into and can fit ANY IP. Literally ANY IP. You can create a spy show for Lord of the Rings FFS.
    The only thing needed to succeed was to inject "Star Wars" into the story.
    The Acolyte failed for the opposite reasons.
    1. The writer believed they knew better than the fans and came in with a desire to change things.
    2. It was about a thing most Star Wars fans cared about. The Force, Jedi and Sith and they did a bunch of shit that did not fit what is known about Star Wars.

      That timeline sounds about right, yes 👍

    I'd like to elaborate on the pacing argument.
    Andor follows a clear pattern of 2 build up episodes that explains the situation of the people involved and of course adding a tiny bit to the overall story, then comes a 3rd episode which is the explosive finale of the given arc, where all the points from the earlier build up episodes plays a role, so you are rewarded for noticing the details in the episodes.
    As you say, the pacing of the other shows feels all over the place, either because they made it as a movie and then cut it into pieces, or because the writting is simply filled small bits that destroy pacing and atmosphere. - disney has had a bad trackrecord of taking moments that by all accounts should be acted out deeply seriously, and putting in "yo mama" jokes and other humor, completely shattering the moments.

      Exactly. Every minute on screen should pay off somehow instead of just bloating the runtime.
      And yes, humor is necessary, but not at the expense of serious storytelling.
      Thanks for your comment 👍

    One was made by creative professionals. The other by inexperienced creatives that seem more interested in selling their belief system than telling a story.

    Do you guys go to UA-cam training where they tell you to repeat things over and over and make silly little videos that pop up every half second?
    But why does everyone do that now? Do you think we are idiots?

    The Acolyte was fine Star Wars would be doing fine if it wasen't for all the anti Disney grifters making money on click bait. The Skeleton Crew is getting lower views that The Acolyte and you can't claim that's becaue the Skeleton Crew is bad, it's fun and really well done. So whos to blame? I think fans who forgot how to have fun. Here's a video by some on who hasen't forgot how to have fun with Star Wars. ua-cam.com/video/kx4vuUPuygg/v-deo.html

    Hit? Andor was good, but it certainly wasn't a hit.

    • @TwinSunsStarWars
      @TwinSunsStarWars  2 дні тому

      That's a fair opinion. What project(s) would you consider to be hits?

    • @timwhite5562
      @timwhite5562 2 дні тому

      @TwinSunsStarWars what is? Tough call. What isn't? A show that's only second to The Acolyte myin lowest viewership. And they're not all that far apart; Andor and the Acolyte are much closer in viewer numbers than Andor is to Ahsoka (third). I believe hit is in reference to popularity over quality.
      I mean hell, The Macarena sold more singles than Radiohead. It was a hit, even if it was little more than a shiny polished turd. At this point if it got popular and people watched it, I think it would fall under the "cult-hit" banner.
      The Mandalorian season 1, and to a lesser degree season 2 I think qualifies as hits.

      I would for sure argue it was the best of any of the live action Star Wars shows 🤷🏾‍♂️

      @@lostronin9113The only other Star Wars show to come out of Disney that was any good was Rogue One.
      Andor is better. Much better.
      Everything else Disney Star wars is garbage.

      I think he was talking about the ratings. I could not believe that Andor had such poor ratings just above the acolyte even.
      But you could probably make Andor entertaining and fun and keep the same intelligent writers.
