    Great idea making sure it works before spending the time to install it. Like I would really know how, it looks complicated especially digging around the fuse box! 🤣🤣Enjoyed watch you though. Like Anita mentioned it's nice to have the monitor on the rear view mirror! Great install.

    Great install!! I’m 6 months late but hopefully you can answer this.
    Can you use the mirror as a regular mirror in the vehicle and still have it record from the front?
    I like these but don’t have any interest in the rear camera for the rear view as I have children that sit in the car and need to keep an eye on them.
    Thanks!

      I too would like to know this, thanks in advance, Love the video, nice edits man. also can you still use the Sunshade? I have a 23 ORP and looking to buy this camera.

    • @maxdexpeditions
      @maxdexpeditions  15 днів тому

      So sorry you all for the very late response!
      So, yes, you can use it as a mirror while the front camera is recording. To do this, you need to set the camera on sleep mode or standby mode under settings, once the screen turns off then, you can use it as a mirror. But here is our dilemma with this. If we adjust the camera so we can use it as a mirror to see our son at the back, it messes with the angle of the front camera, thus making it useless if it can not record the front at the right angle. There is a little bit of adjustability, and I find that this works for me, I am 6' tall, but my wife can't use it as a mirror. So it depends. If I get the time, I'll try to shoot a short video comparing a real mirror to this dashcam.

      Thanks, man, So sorry for the late response! I use a sunshade custom fit for the 4runner, and instead of wrapping the velcro of the sunshade around the mirror, I just left it hanging in the middle and use the visors to hold it. Hope this answers your question. I'll try to shoot a short video this weekend so you all can see. Take care

    Hi Mr. MaxD
    Aloha....hahah I guess I have to wait
    OMGoodness your profession and perfection could not pass just manufactured pieces? haha teasing YOU.
    Wow, I thought you are in the store...2:02 You really like everything tidy and organized. I will let K7S know haha
    Wow, You know what you are dealing with... be honest with you. sounds like French to me. So sorry I am not into mechanic, but just drive....Helpful information for modifying front and rear cam. We usually use a strong magnet and set gopro /insta 360 onto the car.
    Well done. Technology beyond my knowledge hahah Cool to operate from the mirror.
    Have you found any Pros and Cons you did not expect months after your installment ?
    Thank you always for very descriptive hands-on instruction.
    Look forward to next projects. Aloha.

    I love how rear view mirror is used as the monitor for the rear camera! That is very cool. Nice job with the installation. We added a rear camera to our travel trailer, but it has it's own monitor when we are using it. So then we had to find somewhere to install that as well. This is great how you can just plug it into the mirror. 😊👍

    Great job with the install video! After you moved the rear camera to be under the spoiler and routed the cables through the boot, how did you get the red wire back inside the vehicle to connect it to a rear taillight so when you put your vehicle in reverse, the rear camera comes on and displays the parking guidelines?

    • @maxdexpeditions
      @maxdexpeditions  3 місяці тому

      @@dinopicinich Thank you. I taped the the red wire/park guide to the main cable so the end of it ended in the liner inside the cab. The main issue was, the red line was too short to tap to my left reverse light so I soldered another wire of same size and routed it from the liner through the left rear pillar.

    Great video! The funny thing is I did the same thing with the rear view camera. It was a pain getting the wire through the boot so I could run the wire under the spoiler. I purchased the same rear view mirror mount. I have a question for you. Is your Wolfbox a little loose after tightening the screw to the rear view mirror plate? Mine is. The only difference is I had a non-power rear view mirror. Great job with the video!

    • @maxdexpeditions
      @maxdexpeditions  6 місяців тому

      @@onofreruiz5756 Thank you. It was loose at first, but then I over-tightened it and messed up the threads of the mount. The problem with the Wolfbox mount is that it is made of cheap plastic. The mount is cheap and available on Amazon, so I ordered a new one and tried to find the sweet spot for how tight the screw goes in without breaking the plastic. I wish I could tell you a torque spec, but I just went by feel. So far, it's stable.

    I have bought a wolfbox and am researching mounting options, you are one of the few that have chose to mount inside as opposed to out on the bottom side of the spoiler. Any issues with the interior mounting option? Issues I have read about are dark due tint and wiper not cleaning that part of the rear window (seems that would be an issue if mounted outside as well).

    • @maxdexpeditions
      @maxdexpeditions  3 місяці тому +1

      @@PapaJutty I have mounted rear cameras in the 4runner since I got the vehicle new. It’s all about preference and both options have advantages and disadvantages. The main Issue I had with mounting it inside is:
      1. When we are fully loaded, pulling stuff out of the rear we tend to knock out the camera out of place.
      2. Sometimes we sleep inside the cab and we knock out the camera when we get out
      And yes dirt is an issue for both options but you’ll have a smaller surface area to worry about (camera lens) when you mount it outside
      Because of this two points I have since moved the rear cam outside under the spoiler as I have shown at the end of the video.
      If I’m not camping and have no kids I’ll definitely mount mine inside. It’s just more secure and when I open the hatch the camera is still pointed where I need it to be
