Randy’s father, Bill, was the band teacher at Memorial Middle School in Middlebury CT back in the 70’s then remarried after divorcing Delores. Bill’s second wife was the chorus teacher. I was fortunate enough to be in the chorus and see Randy when he would visit his Dad and Step Mom. When he passed away in 1982 there was a special memorial service in the Middlebury Congregational church that we all attended. The main service was back in San Bernardino where his mom lived and Randy is buried in the San Bernardino cemetery.
Ozzy and Randy were like the twin Brothers in Rock and Roll history! Randy's mother was an Music teacher. This guy was not only a great guitar player but also a super human being. Rip Randy. My fallen leaf
At one point, you will see Ozzy look around (and he said this in a later interview) he couldn't believe how GOOD the band playing behind him was. ..."Absolutely blown away" 🤘🎼🔥
Even Metallica admitted that their first few records were filled with Randy riffs and solos. He wrote the book for the genre, two of the greatest metal records of all time, for sure. Long live Randy. Glad Ozzy thanked him last month at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame award ceremony
Good evening metal brother. I seen Ozzy about the same amount of times in the 90s and a bunch of times with his reunion with Sabbath around the VA. MD and Philly area. Peace out be safe
It's just so amazing how ridiculously talented these guys were! And it's even more amazing having been able to live through all of this as it was happening! I turned 13 in '81 and Ozzy was my Idol at that time. The pool of talent in the 80s was so deep! We will never see musicianship like that ever again!
It's amazing you are hearing this for the first time and I heard it this over 40 years ago. Randy Rhoads was one of the best guitar players of his era.
I met Ozzy and the band in 1981. Nicest bunch of guys you’ll ever meet. I was 17 years old and sat by Randy on the bus most of the night. Extremely nice man. RIP
This is from a late show that used to air in New York from a radio station. The drummer Tommy Aldridge is an underrated drummer. He joined Whitesnake & still plays with them to this day,Bassist Rudy Sarzo first played w/ Ozzy then for an LA 80's hair metal band Quiet Riot eventually also playing w/ Whitesnake in 1987 Randy was going to UCLA to get a degree in Classical guitar, sadly he passed away before Ozzy was targeted a lot for being Satanic & his lyrics to one song Suicide Solution.Ozzy was blamed from parents for their sons suicide. This is about alcohol based on ACDC Bon Scott's death
@@RockinMamaT If you have not seen it I think it is Drumeo or maybe Drumble Tommy Aldridge playing in his 70s and has not missed a beat and just as powerful.
This is primo Ozzy and nothing beats his first 2 solo albums with Randy Rhodes on sizzling lead guitar. Absolutely great Ozzy, he also just went into the RR HoF and so deserves it a 2nd time after Black Sabbath in 2006. I knew from the first song on Sabbath's first album that Ozzy Osbourne waz not your typical Rock Vocalist or Frontman, he was a one man riot on stage back in the day, getting the crowd whipped into a frenzy and one of Rock's greats.Sabbath shows were hardcore and intense back in the 70s, the bands they played with would blow your minds, like Blue Oyster Cult, Mountain, Kiss, Judas Preist, Motorhead and others helped blow our heads clean off in the days of no ear protection and stacks and stacks of amps and cabinets to make the volume a physical presence all its own. We saw all these great shows for $5.00 to $6.50 standard price until the early 80s when prices started creeping up, by the 90s concerts were becoming expensive. But we had Ozzy to lead us on the best musical trip you could want. Thank God for Ozzy Osbourne! Enjoy. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥
Randy's mausoleum is here in San Bernardino, CA. I stop by every couple years and pay my respects. Probably my favorite guitarists of this era. Randy was the first guitarist that I really got into and listened to intently. He changed how I listen to music. There was something very special about the songs he wrote and how he played live. He was surrounded by good musicians for writing and other good musicians for touring. I think they all pushed each other to achieve something great and the results speak for themselves.
Hahaha see we told you!! Everyone will point you to Mr. Crowley as maybe Randy's best Solo. His best composition has to be Diary of a Madman (song) and maybe the whole album. The Guy playing Bass is Rudy Sarzo. We used to hang together when he came by Washburn Guitars. Little bit of a show off but decent guy. Lol
Randy Rhodes was one of the greatest guitarist that we never got to experience fully. When it comes to the world of the greatest guitarists, Randy Rhodes is very high on that list.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ The way Ozzy looks at Randy is so great 😂 and the outfits are so great. I don’t think most people expect Ozzy to wear fringe and have his name on his shirt lol ❤🔥 R I P Randy ❤
4:56 The white guitar in the stand behind Randy: The OG Concorde. On December 23, 1980, while on a break from Ozzy’s Blizzard of Ozz tour, Rhoads visited Grover Jackson at his workshop at Charvel HQ. The guitarist pulled out a sketch he’d drawn on a cocktail napkin and asked Jackson to build him a guitar that looked something like a shark’s fin. The pair sat down, and by midnight, the design Randy had conceived was completed and ready to be built. The resulting white, angular, asymmetric ax was nicknamed “the Concorde” as it looked like the supersonic airliner of the same name - although legend has it that Rhoads named the guitar after the aircraft because he actually flew home (from the U.K.) aboard the Concorde in late 1980.

Just think that was on local TV...what a masterclass.
The drummers name is Tommy Aldridge, he is an icon, he is still drumming and there's a lot of videos on the "Drumeo" channel where you can witness his skills at the age of 74.
Ladies and gentlemen Mr. Randy Rhoads!!!!! The man was my idol growing up being a guitar player myself. The man is second to none with maybe the possible exception of Mr. Edward Vanhalen lol To me he was the ultimate guitarist. Here he play one of the most complex solos I ever heard and doesn't once look at his hands!!!!! I ABOLUTELY LOVE the ending with Ozzy scratching his head looking between Tommy Aldrich (Drummer) and Randy with this wide confused and proud smile on his face wondering to himself "What have I discovered here....This is F-ing AMAZING!!!!!" ✌Peace✌
I'm always amazed at how it sounds/feels like Randy played it faster, and it was slowed down in the studio... But you watch him play it live, and you witness his classical influences.
Ozzy was just inducted into the R&R HOF last week(his second time) as a solo artist. He made it a point to say he would not be there without Randy Rhoads. That’s telling considering it’s been over 40 years since Randy tragically was killed
I saw them a few weeks before Randy died - awesome show! Ozzy would pick up Randy and carry him around the stage while he was shredding on the guitar. Tommy did a drum solo and part way through he chucked his sticks into the audience and started playing bare-handed. Total animal!
Ozzy said in an interview once that he was playing a part. That the world isn't the fairy tail we were told as children. And that someone has to warn the kids. That's the role he has taken his entire life. I thank him for that.
I was 15 years old. Front row. Houston, Texas. The Summit. Still have the ticket stub. Damn, I feel old at 58 now. But, saw some killer bands in the 80's. Rock on...........
One of the coolest things I thought about Randy was in one of his interviews he said that when he was on tour with Ozzy, that whichever city they would be booked to play in, he would go and find the best guitar teacher in that area and book one lesson. He was signing autographs in one city somewhere and he said that he couldn't sign a lot of them because he didn't want to be late for his lesson. When he was asked why he did this, he answered: "You might just find out something new". My thing about this always was, I bet it didn't talk long for all those different teachers to find out that he wasn't a beginner. lol Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin had at one point bought Aleister Crowley's castle. Also, about the lyrics for this song. Ozzy Osbourne said that the lyrics he wrote for "Mr. Crowley" were inspired by Aleister Crowley's book Diary of a Drug Fiend and a tarot card deck that was found in the studio while recording the album Blizzard of Ozz. 🎵🎵🎹🎸 🎼🎶🎶
Rudy Sarzo on bass, Tommy Aldridge on drums. They were the rhythm section for Whitesnake in 1987 at my first ever gig! This is one of my fav Ozzy songs together with No More Tears, It Gets Me Through, Crazy Train.......
I love watching Randy because you can tell by his fretting fingers shows his classical training. Often overlooked Rudy Sarzo on bass keeps everything solid. This is a "classic" must see Rock video. When Randy played in a city he would look up a guitar teacher there and would get a lesson from that teacher.
Drummer Tommy Aldridge is incredible too. I saw Ozzy right after Randy passed with Brad Gillis on the guitar. They played mostly Sabbath songs and it was great. RIP Randy
Ozzy gave proper recognition to Randy at his R&R HOF induction recently. I always get teary eyed with this track. You can hear the classical music influence in those solos. Pure bliss.
The drummer is the legendary Tommy Aldridge and the legendary bass player Rudy Sarzo. Look both names up just to see all the bands they have been in, some together.
Diary of a Madman is a great song and haunting. The lyrics are what a Madman would write in his diary. The ending is epic and sounds like something that belongs in the movie The Omen.
The drummer is none other than Tommy aldridge, legendary drummer. And the bass player is Rudy Sarzo, of Quiet Riot fame. He also played in whitesnake with Tommy.
That Sabbath song you are talking about is After Forever. I was lucky enough to have seen Rhoads live 3 weeks before the plane crash. Hecwas phenomenal!
This is one of the only times I recommend a live version over the studio and the studio version is of course awesome. The drummer is Tommy Aldrich who has performed with a bunch of acts. Sam, you want some Dracula vibes, then seriously check out Nosferatu by Blue Oyster Cult.
Another one you guys should check out which is one of Randy's greatest solos with Ozzy is off the same album called suicide solution even check out the live version the Ozzy Osbourne Randy Rhoads tribute album the sound quality was incredible
This is live, but a soundcheck. Don Airy (currently with Deep Purple) on keyboards, Rudy Sarzo on bass, the late Randy Castillo on drums, the late and phenomenally great Randy Rhoads on guitar and, of course, Ozzy on vocals.
Alister Crowley was a hugely famous occultist in Britain in the late 1800's? Early 1900's? Jimmy Page owned his house for awhile. How is it I can understand Ozzy when he sings but not a dam word when he talks?
Was nice seeing how high Randy was held at ozzy’s induction into the rnr hof by jack black and ozzy saying he wouldn’t have made it anywhere without Randy after leaving sabbath
Randy Rhodes was one of a few guitarists whose could actually make a guitar sing. The word legend gets thrown about a lot but in Randy Rhodes case there's no other word. RIP.
Hey, your stuff is amazing, putting me in touch again with stuff I've heard over the years but didn't really think about. So, thank you. I have a suggestion: "We Are Not Helpless" by Stephen Stills. It's the closer to his first solo album, in 1970, an album that's been on my list of essential listens for more than 50 years. There are other gems on the record, sure, but "We Are Not Helpless" rises above them all.
Thing about Randy Rhoads is, he was such a tiny little guy 5'7', weighing in at 105 pounds. His guitar was nearly as tall as him. He had to put his intire self into playing and that intensity is a part of his electrifyin sound. A note about this perfomance. Randy's Marshall's weren't on, they were stage dressing in this performance. Randy was plugged into his practice amp that was mic'd up just off stage.
I saw Ozzy and Randy in Sep. '81. I was 15 and that show was a life changing experience for me. Sadly, 6 months later Randy was gone. I was devastated. 😢🙏My second Ozzy concert was May '82 with Brad Gillis on guitar. It was a makeup show due to cancelling the April '82 concert date because of Randy's tragic death. BTW, there were three songs recorded live for this TV show "After Hours" in the studio show. I Don't Know, Suicide Solution and Mr. Crowley. Mr. Crowley was played a bit too slow compared to the album. I still have this "After Hours" show I recorded on VHS. 😁
Aleister Crowley conducted his most infamous occult ritual in Boleskine House, an estate he owned between 1899 and 1913, on the shore of Loch Ness, in Scotland. The manor is currently being renovated after two fires almost completely destroyed it five years ago. I have two granite building stones which were removed from the doorway Crowley had installed as a passageway for the spirits he summoned, displayed in my personal library at home
Ozzy said at the time, there were some bands or artists who were into the occult. And they had talked about Aliester Crowley. He wrote the song just basically asking who were you.
She was right, brother. That keyboard intro was pure old school monster movie music.
Sam is usually right.
