It's amazing you are hearing this for the first time and I heard it this over 40 years ago. Randy Rhoads was one of the best guitar players of his era.
This is primo Ozzy and nothing beats his first 2 solo albums with Randy Rhodes on sizzling lead guitar. Absolutely great Ozzy, he also just went into the RR HoF and so deserves it a 2nd time after Black Sabbath in 2006. I knew from the first song on Sabbath's first album that Ozzy Osbourne waz not your typical Rock Vocalist or Frontman, he was a one man riot on stage back in the day, getting the crowd whipped into a frenzy and one of Rock's greats.Sabbath shows were hardcore and intense back in the 70s, the bands they played with would blow your minds, like Blue Oyster Cult, Mountain, Kiss, Judas Preist, Motorhead and others helped blow our heads clean off in the days of no ear protection and stacks and stacks of amps and cabinets to make the volume a physical presence all its own. We saw all these great shows for $5.00 to $6.50 standard price until the early 80s when prices started creeping up, by the 90s concerts were becoming expensive. But we had Ozzy to lead us on the best musical trip you could want. Thank God for Ozzy Osbourne! Enjoy. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥
@@RockinMamaT If you have not seen it I think it is Drumeo or maybe Drumble Tommy Aldridge playing in his 70s and has not missed a beat and just as powerful.
It's just so amazing how ridiculously talented these guys were! And it's even more amazing having been able to live through all of this as it was happening! I turned 13 in '81 and Ozzy was my Idol at that time. The pool of talent in the 80s was so deep! We will never see musicianship like that ever again!
I'm always amazed at how it sounds/feels like Randy played it faster, and it was slowed down in the studio... But you watch him play it live, and you witness his classical influences.
Hahaha see we told you!! Everyone will point you to Mr. Crowley as maybe Randy's best Solo. His best composition has to be Diary of a Madman (song) and maybe the whole album. The Guy playing Bass is Rudy Sarzo. We used to hang together when he came by Washburn Guitars. Little bit of a show off but decent guy. Lol
I met Ozzy and the band in 1981. Nicest bunch of guys you’ll ever meet. I was 17 years old and sat by Randy on the bus most of the night. Extremely nice man. RIP
This is from a late show that used to air in New York from a radio station. The drummer Tommy Aldridge is an underrated drummer. He joined Whitesnake & still plays with them to this day,Bassist Rudy Sarzo first played w/ Ozzy then for an LA 80's hair metal band Quiet Riot eventually also playing w/ Whitesnake in 1987 Randy was going to UCLA to get a degree in Classical guitar, sadly he passed away before Ozzy was targeted a lot for being Satanic & his lyrics to one song Suicide Solution.Ozzy was blamed from parents for their sons suicide. This is about alcohol based on ACDC Bon Scott's death
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ The way Ozzy looks at Randy is so great 😂 and the outfits are so great. I don’t think most people expect Ozzy to wear fringe and have his name on his shirt lol ❤🔥 R I P Randy ❤
Randy Rhodes was one of the greatest guitarist that we never got to experience fully. When it comes to the world of the greatest guitarists, Randy Rhodes is very high on that list.
Ladies and gentlemen Mr. Randy Rhoads!!!!! The man was my idol growing up being a guitar player myself. The man is second to none with maybe the possible exception of Mr. Edward Vanhalen lol To me he was the ultimate guitarist. Here he play one of the most complex solos I ever heard and doesn't once look at his hands!!!!! I ABOLUTELY LOVE the ending with Ozzy scratching his head looking between Tommy Aldrich (Drummer) and Randy with this wide confused and proud smile on his face wondering to himself "What have I discovered here....This is F-ing AMAZING!!!!!" ✌Peace✌
Ozzy gave proper recognition to Randy at his R&R HOF induction recently. I always get teary eyed with this track. You can hear the classical music influence in those solos. Pure bliss.
I love watching Randy because you can tell by his fretting fingers shows his classical training. Often overlooked Rudy Sarzo on bass keeps everything solid. This is a "classic" must see Rock video. When Randy played in a city he would look up a guitar teacher there and would get a lesson from that teacher.
Ozzy was just inducted into the R&R HOF last week(his second time) as a solo artist. He made it a point to say he would not be there without Randy Rhoads. That’s telling considering it’s been over 40 years since Randy tragically was killed
The drummer is the legendary Tommy Aldridge and the legendary bass player Rudy Sarzo. Look both names up just to see all the bands they have been in, some together.
The drummers name is Tommy Aldridge, he is an icon, he is still drumming and there's a lot of videos on the "Drumeo" channel where you can witness his skills at the age of 74.
4:56 The white guitar in the stand behind Randy: The OG Concorde. On December 23, 1980, while on a break from Ozzy’s Blizzard of Ozz tour, Rhoads visited Grover Jackson at his workshop at Charvel HQ. The guitarist pulled out a sketch he’d drawn on a cocktail napkin and asked Jackson to build him a guitar that looked something like a shark’s fin. The pair sat down, and by midnight, the design Randy had conceived was completed and ready to be built. The resulting white, angular, asymmetric ax was nicknamed “the Concorde” as it looked like the supersonic airliner of the same name - although legend has it that Rhoads named the guitar after the aircraft because he actually flew home (from the U.K.) aboard the Concorde in late 1980.
Alister Crowley was a hugely famous occultist in Britain in the late 1800's? Early 1900's? Jimmy Page owned his house for awhile. How is it I can understand Ozzy when he sings but not a dam word when he talks?
One of the coolest things I thought about Randy was in one of his interviews he said that when he was on tour with Ozzy, that whichever city they would be booked to play in, he would go and find the best guitar teacher in that area and book one lesson. He was signing autographs in one city somewhere and he said that he couldn't sign a lot of them because he didn't want to be late for his lesson. When he was asked why he did this, he answered: "You might just find out something new". My thing about this always was, I bet it didn't talk long for all those different teachers to find out that he wasn't a beginner. lol Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin had at one point bought Aleister Crowley's castle. Also, about the lyrics for this song. Ozzy Osbourne said that the lyrics he wrote for "Mr. Crowley" were inspired by Aleister Crowley's book Diary of a Drug Fiend and a tarot card deck that was found in the studio while recording the album Blizzard of Ozz. 🎵🎵🎹🎸 🎼🎶🎶
Rudy Sarzo on bass, Tommy Aldridge on drums. They were the rhythm section for Whitesnake in 1987 at my first ever gig! This is one of my fav Ozzy songs together with No More Tears, It Gets Me Through, Crazy Train.......
Ozzy said in an interview once that he was playing a part. That the world isn't the fairy tail we were told as children. And that someone has to warn the kids. That's the role he has taken his entire life. I thank him for that.
Diary of a Madman is a great song and haunting. The lyrics are what a Madman would write in his diary. The ending is epic and sounds like something that belongs in the movie The Omen.
The "Tribute" live album version is SO much better. This video is a rehearsal for the tour. Oh, well. And...sorry, Phil, I'm totally with Sam. That intro gives me Dracula vibes.
Was nice seeing how high Randy was held at ozzy’s induction into the rnr hof by jack black and ozzy saying he wouldn’t have made it anywhere without Randy after leaving sabbath
Allister Crowley - who was he? He was an Anarchist, first and foremost. But not a modern AnCap style anarchist, he was hardcore "No Laws, No Rules, No Morals" (not what modern anarchists believe). He founded a religion, "Thalema" which was based on 19th Century spiritualism (which was a huge fad back then), mixed with Ancient Egyptian mythology. He published "The Book of the Law" as his religions founding text. But it was an allegory, NOT a literal belief system. Religious freedom provided him a cover for political writings on Anarchism that would have been viewed as Seditious or even Treasonous at the time. The religion was a front for a philosophical and political movement. Their mantra, which I'm sure you've heard before: "Do as thou wilt". Drugs, Sex, Gambling, Alcohol, you name it, they supported it. They were actually huge supporters of Gays and Lesbians at a time when they were perhaps least accepted by society (it was even worse than the dark ages for those groups around 1910-1930). Their reasoning for that support, if you want to do that and it feels good for you, just do it, you don't need anyone's permission or approval. Many of those teachings filtered down to the Hippie movement a few decades later. One of his followers was L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, who borrowed a lot from them. The group was accused of everything you can imagine, from human sacrifice, to child sex rings, devil worship, etc. Most of those were false, but when you believe do whatever you want unapologetically, some people did take that to extremes, they weren't choir boys, lol. Crowley died of syphilis and addicted to heroine. Indulging every whim doesn't negate consequences. Jack Parsons (the legendary rocket scientist) was a high ranking member. I believe Jimmy Page (of Led Zepplin) actually still owns Crowley's old house as his retreat property. The Book of the Law is actually a fantastic philosophical treatise, but it's allegorical, you have to read between the lines, not take it literally. And you do have to keep it in the context of the period in which it was written. So who was he? using modern references you might know, he was Walter White + Jeffrey Epstein + Miss Cleo, all in one.
He didn't die of syphilis (he died of lung disease), and had been clean of heroin for years (he became addicted after having it prescribed by a doctor for his asthma). Nor was he an anarchist. He had been a supporter of Fascism until he was expelled from Italy by Mussolini,, but was mostly just a libertarian. "Do what thou wilt" does not mean "do whatever you want, we support it." It means a student of magic or occultism has to first discover the "true will", not the lower will of desires. Crowley believed the true will of a person predates birth, and is the meaning and reason for existence, and that no one knows their true will unless they discover it through the practice of magic or yoga (Crowley considered magic a western form of yoga). Jimmy Page briefly owned Crowley's Boleskine house in Scotland, but he sold it years ago. It was destroyed in a fire recently.
This is live, but a soundcheck. Don Airy (currently with Deep Purple) on keyboards, Rudy Sarzo on bass, the late Randy Castillo on drums, the late and phenomenally great Randy Rhoads on guitar and, of course, Ozzy on vocals.
I saw Ozzy and Randy in Sep. '81. I was 15 and that show was a life changing experience for me. Sadly, 6 months later Randy was gone. I was devastated. 😢🙏My second Ozzy concert was May '82 with Brad Gillis on guitar. It was a makeup show due to cancelling the April '82 concert date because of Randy's tragic death. BTW, there were three songs recorded live for this TV show "After Hours" in the studio show. I Don't Know, Suicide Solution and Mr. Crowley. Mr. Crowley was played a bit too slow compared to the album. I still have this "After Hours" show I recorded on VHS. 😁
Ozzy said his soul is Aleister ✓Crowley's reincarnated soul, & the same soul was from Rasputin. Crowley was The Occulter Brit', Rasputin: Russian warlock. Trifecta!
Ozzy said at the time, there were some bands or artists who were into the occult. And they had talked about Aliester Crowley. He wrote the song just basically asking who were you.
Thing about Randy Rhoads is, he was such a tiny little guy 5'7', weighing in at 105 pounds. His guitar was nearly as tall as him. He had to put his intire self into playing and that intensity is a part of his electrifyin sound. A note about this perfomance. Randy's Marshall's weren't on, they were stage dressing in this performance. Randy was plugged into his practice amp that was mic'd up just off stage.
This is one of the only times I recommend a live version over the studio and the studio version is of course awesome. The drummer is Tommy Aldrich who has performed with a bunch of acts. Sam, you want some Dracula vibes, then seriously check out Nosferatu by Blue Oyster Cult.
Randy Rhodes was one of a few guitarists whose could actually make a guitar sing. The word legend gets thrown about a lot but in Randy Rhodes case there's no other word. RIP.
Easily my favorite guitarist ever. Two great albums put out by Ozzy. The entire band kicked ass ! Check out DIO "Don't talk to strangers" Live from Japan 1985. Great metal band from the same era as Ozzy, legendary singer (Ronnie James Dio) and great band as well.
Aleister Crowley conducted his most infamous occult ritual in Boleskine House, an estate he owned between 1899 and 1913, on the shore of Loch Ness, in Scotland. The manor is currently being renovated after two fires almost completely destroyed it five years ago. I have two granite building stones which were removed from the doorway Crowley had installed as a passageway for the spirits he summoned, displayed in my personal library at home
“Randy Rhodes” ⭐️⭐️🎸⭐️⭐️ ……had the privilege to see Randy 1 time in my life (1981) Blizzard Of OZZ Tour. 8th row Orpheum Theater Boston, directly in front of Randy 🎸 Now I’ve seen E.V.H. 4 times live, and in my opinion only….. he surpasses Eddie by a “CH” 🎸 my opinion only, Both my favorite and miss both 😢
Hey, your stuff is amazing, putting me in touch again with stuff I've heard over the years but didn't really think about. So, thank you. I have a suggestion: "We Are Not Helpless" by Stephen Stills. It's the closer to his first solo album, in 1970, an album that's been on my list of essential listens for more than 50 years. There are other gems on the record, sure, but "We Are Not Helpless" rises above them all.
I saw a comment on the original UA-cam channel that posted the After Hours special that rings so true : (Paraphrasing) Randy's guitar needed a cigarette after that lol
Supposedly while on tour, Randy would call ahead of the bands next tour stop for a classical guitarist instructor to take lessons. So, even if Rhoades had lived longer. He probably wouldn't have played rock for much longer & possibly would've turned to classical.
There's only one artist most appropriate for Halloween : King Diamond. Ozzy and others have some great ones of course - including Ozzy's own Bark At The Moon - but King is all horror, all mystery, all terror, all occult, all the time. Entire stories of supernatural spookiness make up whole albums - sometimes spanning across two.
Sir Randy Rhodes RIPwas The heir apparent to Eddie Van Halen. I saw Ozzy twice, I had the pleasure ; nay, the privilege of watching Randy's solos in 81'. They literally had you in a trance. Set the time I saw him he was a total absolute mess, I left the show.
Without Randy Rhoads, there wouldn't be any Jackson guitars. In like '79 a relatively unknown guitarist walked in Charvel Guitar Repair shop which also had Grover Jackson working there who had just bought part of the shop. Rhoads had what became the RR Edition V design. Charvel wouldn't let Jackson make the guitar and put Charvel's name to it, so Jackson Guitars were born. All Jackson Guitars were designed by guitarists too.
Please y'all , do any of these songs from the live album entitled Ozzy Osbourne's Tribute To Randy Rhoades. Randy shined like a Supernova live. Ozzy wes , man , I've got an awesome band.
This was a happy time for Ozzy seeing his smiling face looking at Randy is priceless

Revelation Mother Earth studio version is a must!
Ozzy said his soul is Aleister ✓Crowley's reincarnated soul, & the same soul was from Rasputin. Crowley was The Occulter Brit', Rasputin: Russian warlock. Trifecta!
No, Ozzy didn't say that, and Bob Daisley wrote this song.
@sabbracadabra7503 On Mtv to Kurt Loder in '85, Ozzy said that, & with more details. Your whining's gonna change history? Nope. 🙄
@@maggedo-x1s Ozzy was probably drunk, high, or stoned out of his mind when he said that or probably drunk and high or stoned at the same time
@@neonknight821 Ozzy prob'ly was. That's Ozzy! 🤘🥴🤏
@@maggedo-x1s Bullshit. Cry harder.
Black Sabbath wanted Ozzy back because because he was being Black Sabbath with them!
Ozzy said at the time, there were some bands or artists who were into the occult. And they had talked about Aliester Crowley. He wrote the song just basically asking who were you.
Bob Daisley wrote it.
Now they know who RR"s is!!!!!
You should check Ozzy's Rock Hall of Fame induction. It was awesome!
Perfect for Halloween.
Hi Sam. I agree with the intro giving Dracula vibes
I think I read somewhere once that the guitarist for Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, bought Aleister Crowley's manor and lives in it to this day.
Bark at the Moon with Jake E Lee rocks too
Aleister Crowley conducted his most infamous occult ritual in Boleskine House, an estate he owned between 1899 and 1913, on the shore of Loch Ness, in Scotland. The manor is currently being renovated after two fires almost completely destroyed it five years ago. I have two granite building stones which were removed from the doorway Crowley had installed as a passageway for the spirits he summoned, displayed in my personal library at home
Moleskin was owed at one time by none other than Mr. Jimmy page
Boleskine
@ Yes. He owned the property for about twenty years but never actually lived there
YAY!! OZZY!!! One of my FAVS by them!! Have ya'll listened to WAR PIGS, yet? SO GOOD!!! ENJOY!! RIP, RANDY RHODES!!!
Randy was classically trained on guitar... his solos are different than most heavy metal guitarists.
“Randy Rhodes”
⭐️⭐️🎸⭐️⭐️
……had the privilege to see Randy 1 time in my life (1981) Blizzard Of OZZ Tour. 8th row Orpheum Theater Boston, directly in front of Randy 🎸 Now I’ve seen E.V.H. 4 times live, and in my opinion only….. he surpasses Eddie by a “CH” 🎸 my opinion only, Both my favorite and miss both 😢
OZZY - BARK AT THE MOON is a great song.. Do the Official Video version to see Ozzy running around dressed like a Werewolf
The songs about Allistor Crowley , look him up . R&R
Among many other talents - Ozzy could pick band mates and find the best guitarists on the scene.
Rudy Sarzo, Tommy Aldridge, Randy Rhodes!
The dummer was Tommy Aldridge now of Whitesnake.
I saw him with whitesnake they opened up for Kiss 😂
saw him in Maple Leaf Gardens .. in 82 I guess
I saw a comment on the original UA-cam channel that posted the After Hours special that rings so true :
(Paraphrasing)
Randy's guitar needed a cigarette after that lol
Now you should do Diary of a Madman for Halloween! 🔥
Supposedly while on tour, Randy would call ahead of the bands next tour stop for a classical guitarist instructor to take lessons. So, even if Rhoades had lived longer. He probably wouldn't have played rock for much longer & possibly would've turned to classical.
You need to check out Diary of a madman! Guitar work in this song is awesome! You won't be disappointed, I promise!
I saw Ozzy twice, I had the pleasure ; nay, the privilege of watching Randy's solos
in 81'. They literally had you in a trance. Set the time I saw him he was a total absolute mess, I left the show.
The guitar was bigger than he was....but what a talent
possibly because JImmy Page of Led Zeppelin bought the Crowley Mansion and currently lives there
No problem with the Dracula vibe reference
HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃
Without Randy Rhoads, there wouldn't be any Jackson guitars. In like '79 a relatively unknown guitarist walked in Charvel Guitar Repair shop which also had Grover Jackson working there who had just bought part of the shop. Rhoads had what became the RR Edition V design. Charvel wouldn't let Jackson make the guitar and put Charvel's name to it, so Jackson Guitars were born. All Jackson Guitars were designed by guitarists too.
Check out the official M/V for the song Flying High Again by Ozzy, off the Diary of a Madman album, Great song
Please y'all , do any of these songs from the live album entitled Ozzy Osbourne's Tribute To Randy Rhoades. Randy shined like a Supernova live. Ozzy wes , man , I've got an awesome band.
