I have two sets of the Kobalt XTR line. For that $399 price tag on the 5 piece tool kit, it is a great value. That XTR line is heavy duty. Definitely competes with the Red and Yellow. The only drawback, if you have the expectation, is that there is nothing compact about them. Hammer drill is a 996/998 size, Impact is of a bigger breed, and the Recip is like the size of the Supersawzall. Again, built like tanks but not compact in the slightest. I also have a fully extensive M18 line, Ton of Makita LXT, and M12 line so I’m not used to low end tools. I use the XTR heavily and virtually daily. I also have a ton of the standard 24v Kobalt and they are pretty good. But XTR is a major step up.

Kobalt tools like the little brother of dewalt and didn’t quite reach the same size yet if that makes sense. For me the strongest hammer drill out there is the flex but because of its size it loses some points and that brings me back to old faithful the Milwaukee m18 fuel hammer drill, till this day the only thing I’ve used stronger is the flex but it’s way heavier and bigger than the Milwaukee which makes it less capable because of the space limitations and ease of carrying throughout Home or attic or above drop in ceilings doing maintenance work etc. You can skip on everything dewalt makes aside for the saws there is better options. The new makita 40v line seems promising especially their larger tool for how powerful they are with such small batteries it’s impressive. Milwaukee fuel lines still take the cake for me for the availability, innovation, power, extensive lines. These newer companies just can’t compete yet and more of single tool best option available kinda thing instead of entire lines

@@KompleteTechCrew I don’t know how often you use things like circular saws and miter saws but the makita GSL04M1 (12” sliding compound miter saw) is even better than dewalt dws780, it runs on a single 4.0 40v and we did entire deck with it on a single battery, plus we were able to do all the cutting in limited space inside of garage because the sliding action is forward of the saw not behind it so you can put it right up against a wall with full range of motion and the dust extraction is awesome only behind festool imo. Also their new 40v xgt rear handle saw is the second fastest cutting rear handle 7 1/4” only behind the dewalt dcs577 60v rear handle in terms of cutting speed. Imo dewalt is the standard for saws so that says a lot about how diverse makita 40v xgt line really is. Even makita 40v xgt flagship hammer drill/driver combo is right there with flex in power and speed but it’s more compact which makes it more versatile imo. Don’t sleep on that platform. I’m die hard m12/m18 fuel guy but there’s no denying how good makita 40v xgt platform is especially considering how small the damn batteries are and how long they last. It really is impressive! If you can sample any at the job site or in store demos (usually on Saturday mornings in my area) pick those tools up and give them a test drive. No comparison between the makita 40v xgt line and their older 18v lxt stuff from makita. Promise you’ll be impressed

I Agree With You On The Saws. I’ve Been Saving And Planning For A Big Splurge On The Makita 40v XGT Platform. I Can’t Wait Until Some Deals Start Surfacing. I Plan Take Full Advantage Of Them. I’ve Always Appreciated The Comfort And Size Of Makita’s 18v Tools. I Just Felt That They Were Slightly Underpowered. I Know This 40v XGT Line Will Smash That Notion!

Just my .2 cents on the flex line. I’m a carpenters apprentice and my coworker (also apprentice) invested in the flex line and I chose Milwaukee. The flex impact is LOUD especially compared to the surge. It definitely has all the torque you’ll ever need but as soon as you get to that last 30% of fastening whatever screw or bolt you hear that thing loud and clear. That’s my only complaint on the impact. He also got the 6 1/2 flex circ saw and while I do like how it feels in your hand it is very underpowered especially compared to the 7-1/4 fuel rear handle I have. I do think the flex battery led gauge on the batteries is way better than the Milwaukee ones. As far as reliability we haven’t had any issues with any of our tools.

Kobalt 24V line is definitely NOT GARBAGE. The XTR Line is phenomenal. They are like any other brand. They have some that are better than others, but they're all decent. The only thing with the Kobalt is the size. They're not markedly heavier than the 18V competition, but they are built bigger. Can't expect compact from them, but other than that, they're great. Power is there for sure. Metabo HPT is my personal favorite. The 18V stuff is strong, and their 36V line is beastly. 18V/36V/120V AC, Lifetime warranty on all, you can't beat that versatility and flexibility. And in my opinion, Metabo HPT has the best ergo in the business. Their tools melt in the hand. Great grips. The best triggers of any brand. And definitely not lacking in power, especially on the 36V line.

Bosch is releasing new stuff, so they are getting rid of their old stuff. Flex is basically like Kobalt xtr with improvements. A lot of demanding tools from Kobalt xtr tend to overheat easily like the circular saw and the recip, but the Flex improves on them. The batteries imo are better with Flex than Kobalt, BUT Kobalt does have some interesting tools and most of them are brushless.

  • @jmackinjersey1

I think I may have told you about a couple of guys that bought the Flex kits, but to make it short, also a smoke show. Was it because they were trying to prove their new tools could not only hang, but outperform my Milwaukee tools, and they were adding extra pressure? Could be, but I was calling out numbers and expecting to have cut limber handed to me in a relatively quick manner. The day started out like that, but by lunch they were slacking. After lunch they were asking to use my tools.
I think that FLEX came to the market too late in the overall game, so they had to rush their products, instead of taking time to get things right. Plus, you can see they are lowering their prices to entice more buyers. This is really early in a product line for reduction. Maybe that is a reflection on their overall sales numbers?

I still have my grandfather’s made in USA craftsman handtools, as far as the newer stuff I like the gun metal mechanic set that’s made in Taiwan but not the regular mechanic set. Also if you know what to look for you can find some Dewalt clones, The jobsite radio, under hood light and one of the 3/8 impact wrenchs etc.. are identical, but in some cases like the light and radio they will purposefully restrict wattage so the Dewalt performs better but they’re all made mostly out of the same materials except for the nicer over molding on batteries and power tools. I grew up in a tire shop that was mostly Snap-On and Mac, and don't feel I'm missing anything having that Craftsman cabinet, plus it's the same cabinet that was sold under the DeWalt name. I recommend checking out those Crescent Lufkin Night Sight tape measures. Lowe's seems to be the only place that has them in stock, and they have some 2-pack deals occasionally. I just got that Kobalt Pliers 5-pack and I'm definitely impressed.
Lowe's is location specific. The one closest to me is spectacular. The one 20 minutes south should be called Juga-Lowe's. It's terrible.

It’s Baffling How Each Store Is So Unique. Some Are Great. Some Are Horrible. I’m Definitely Checking Out Some Kobalt On My Next Lowes Trip.

Kobalt will NOT LAST one week, or even one day in some cases, on the job site. They are not designed to be used in an industrial/professional setting. They'll smoke if you push them hard. The circ saws will stop once you put even a small amount of pressure on the blades, so you'll have to stop and restart, or just go slow from the start. They are also relatively fragile. I had a guy using an impact on a ladder, only one story up, and he dropped it and the housing cracked. This will upset you and you'll either set them down and pick up your pro set (Red or Yellow) and continue to work, or you'll drive back to Lowe's and get your money back and then go to HD and buy some new blades for your saws and then get back to work. They aren't really all that great for a home owner either, TBH. I'd rather see you buy some Craftsman for a home owner, or even DeWalt entry level tools if the price is an issue.
I honestly wish I had more time lately on the job site, or some sort of camera I could use, instead of using my phone and one hand to make videos. I've seen several tools break or smoke over the last few years/months. I tell these guys to pay a little more initially and buy better quality tools, but they don't listen and have to learn the hard way some times. Especially the younger guys. Well, I guess that also goes for some of the older, hard headed guys as well.

I’ve been interested in the kobalt xtr for a while and obviously wanted to get my hands on some flex stuff just to test it out. I was able to get the flex top of the line hammer drill kit with the 5.0 abs 2.5 ah batteries in a hard case with a free 31 piece flex bit set - I couldn’t BELIEVE how fucking beastly the drill is, it’s an absolute mammoth, built like a brick shit house, the whole kit is super well made, case is nice.
As far as xtr I might grab either the drill or the circular saw after seeing this - something about the way the xtr looks with the black and blue is just sexy

I think xtr is where Chervon was warming up for flex, lol. I really like what Chervon has been doing the past few years or so with Skil, flex and xtr (kobalt in general). At this point it kinda feels like it’s Chervon/lowes vs TTI/Home Depot, lol

@@rickyperkins232 i don’t have to, all their tools are priced equally or greater than the other top tier brands. Flex isn’t a new brand but their power tools are, a new line of tools(and one that claims to hands-down be the best) should be able to compete in the market but most of the tool review channels of any merit agree Flex has been stifled/set back by their high prices. They did extend the founders warranty but that’s about it. It’s not me saying this it’s the industry, great tools so far though.

Also the metabo deals werent displayed as clearance they rang up that way at the register ( the hammer drill kit had a clearance sticker for 279.99 which was marked down from 349.99 and then it scanned in at 13.95 at the register )kinda like the Penny deals at home Depot which fyi keep your eye out for a fuel deep cut bandsaw on clearance cause people are s oring that for .01 at HD

I must live in an area that has the absolute worst lowes……I see guys walk into lowes on the daily getting amazing deals, and clearances on UA-cam when I go to mine no deals, plus I don’t like most of the brands they carry…..no Milwaukee, no makita, not a good dewalt selection….hitachi/metabo is ok, Bosch is ok, not a flex fan. Idk I’ve always felt like lowes is an hd wanna be. If I could get decent deals I might buy but their prices are just too high at least when I’m in there. I forgot I like skil a lot for the money. I don’t have any but a friend has a lot of their 12v line and for the money it’s good stuff especially homeowner diy and skil stands behind their warranty…I’m not a flex fan….I didn’t like how deceptive they were with their testing product release party, you could tell they were pressing harder on the flex tools vs their non fuel no 21700 cell batteries. Their tools might be a touch more powerful but they just seem like used car salesmen when marketing…..I’ve heard their drills can be smoke shows if pushed, but I don’t own. If your thinking of getting for your channel and testing, do it, but if it’s to replace your Milwaukee collection idk

I felt the same for a while about lowes and seeing guys walk out with $3 bit kits, $.20 screwdriver sets, and $13 128 piece socket sets, until I found BrickSeek. It’s a quick game to get those clearance items but BrickSeek is a lifesaver. Even when the store hasn’t done price changes yet, when you take it to the register, 9 times out of 10, it’s the BrickSeek price. I got the 24v Kobalt SDS plus hammer drill for $38. In store it said $149, had the associate scan it and it came up as $35.42. Got the Linksys Router for $23.92, normal price was $149.99. The associate that pulled four of them down ended up buying the other two.
