My locs are 10 months old. The lady that started them always bought her big portable sit down under dryer. Now that I'm doing them myself I've been air drying. They look just ok. Today I retwisted and pulled out the dryer bought and made myself sit under it for 30 minutes. It made a huge difference, I would not air dry anymore.
Oldie, but Goodie. Thank you for sharing. For my method, I extract as much water as possible from my locs using microfiber towels (3-4 towels to be exact). Then, I use the bonnet hair dryer. This works wonders.
Awww when you said "you are proud of me" that was so cute. Girl THANK YOU! I'm not having locs yet, but I have my own hair business that I really want to perfect🤍 So excited about getting REAL good with Locs!!!
This must be a recommendation for starters! I’ve been growing mine for 8 yrs this October and I’ve never sat under the dryer! I’ve also created a moisturizing spray that keeps them looking and feeling wonderful! But sure for different hair types! 🎉😂
I thank God for your teaching abilities. I've loc'd for almost eight years and have learned soooo much from you after discovering your channel a month ago!! I ordered and love my pure scalp spray!! God bless you!
I really like it to but it can just look like a bad hair day on some people. I just started my locs last year after I retired. For me and my age I just like them to look a lot neater.
🙋🏽 i’m guilty as well. 😂 just got a cap dryer i can sit under though and thank god my dreads don’t stink and i don’t use anything that can cause buildup.
Absolutely nothing goes on my scalp because everything inflammes my seborrheic dermatitis. So a dryer can really dry out my scalp. I have a hooded dryer and use the cool setting which helps.
Watching this again because I'm trying to figure out how I can make a hooded hair dryer work for me. Absolutely nothing (no oils, aloe vera, rose water, etc) goes on my scalp because everything inflames my seborrheic dermatitis. So a dryer can really dry out my scalp. I have a hooded dryer and use the cool setting which helps. Is that ok?
@@thedigitalloctician so after 2 different times washing and sitting under the dryer my scalp was screaming at me. Today I washed and didn't sit under the dryer and my scalp finally feels soothed. Sadly, my seborrheic dermatitis doesn't allow *me* to sit under the dryer. No crispy retwist for me and some of my locs will just have to be flat.😕 I feel a little defeated but it's OK. I wash first thing in the morning and air dry all day. I didn't get mold/mildew with my 1st set I had for 12 years so I'm not worried about that part. Thanks so much for your knowledge!
I feel you. I have the same diagnosis and it’s miserable. I was blessed to find a loctician in Chicago who healed my scalp. My scalp used to look like cradle cap & snow flakes. Constant itch. I couldn’t let my hair be pent up because i would scratch sores in my head. I had to go to her every 30 days and she forbid me to wash my own hair. It was like a miracle to finally be free.
@curlynugrowth I dont have a cover hair dryer. This is my first wash after starting locs. I'm trying to squeeze the moisture out with t shirt and keep uncovered. Do you think mold will start to grow? Can I put something on them to help prevent mold from forming?
You can sleep with the bonnet dryer on your head.. I wanted to lighten my hair just to a lighter brown but fell asleep and woke up blonde.. best mistake😂
First off I love your page and your locs!! I just started my loc journey a week ago and am ready to wash...I wanted to know if I should dry after every wash or just when I retwist?
Ok so what about using a dog groomers blower dryer? They come with attachments but don’t get warm or hot and just use high power force to push the water out.
I started my Loc’s 🔒🌱 on October 16,2020 with two strand 🤞🏾twist. I started my Loc’s myself and plan on up keeping them myself. For starred Loc’s should I use a dryer? Or can I air dry for now? Or both lol
I have the professional dryer. It’s the best. I only paid 450 for it and when i tell you it is worth the money. I have had it since i was a loose natural. I cannot live with out it. I wash my hair once a week so i use it a lot. I don even own a blow dryer. I gave mine to my niece. Thanks for the video.
Does blow drying your starter locs (Finger/Comb Coils) keep your hair loc'd in?? I'm tired of Re-Twistting my starter locs after every time I take a shower 🚿
@@thedigitallocticianI I use a stocken to wash my hair to keep my coils from unraveling but after my 2nd hair wash they always come out and I have to re twist them all over again 😩😭 it's very time consuming and after a while of twisting my arms get tired
Hi, thank you for the video. I’m 4 months loc’d now and think it’s time I bought a hooded bonnet, if I’m washing and drying my locs with the blow dryer & bonnet once a week, should I be spraying heat protectant on my locs right before starting to dry them? Thanks 😊
Sisterlocks can definitely be subjected to mildew because of the shear amount of them. I spoke in more detail during my recent live "Air Drying: The Controversy"
My question is won't drying my hair be drying to my hair?I went from being a loose natural to a locked natural never using a dryer. I have not used oils or any other products besides my moisturizing shampoo,In 5 months (I've been locked for 2 ) I really don't want to go back to oils ,I wash my hair every 2-3 weeks oils makes my hair get dirtier faster and honestly I feel like it was clogging my scalp. And since I have stopped using them my hair has taken off.
@@phatcutie35 I want to acknowledge your question and hope that you know this response is coming from a place of love.... The purpose of the dryer is to dry, so yes your hair will feel dry. Also considering that you are not putting anything into your hair to help it retain moisture then, more than likely, your hair will feel much dryer than someone who buffers their drying experience with lightweight oils. I hope that helped to answer your question.
@@thedigitalloctician yes ty, it was my anxiety at having to use oils again I remember another video you had that helped me a lot when you were talking about the core of the hair being well moisturized ,even if it feels dry on the outside I was having a problem with the different textures of locs from loose hair it forced me to get to know my hair and to stop treating my hair like I did my loose hair. Thank you.❤
That is so true because I don’t own a hair dryer because they are too expensive. But I know I need one because when it gets cold 🥶, I have to be in the house all day
Sitting under a dryer will not stop your hair from unraveling. The roots are going to unravel with new grow regardless

Always dropping gems! I’ve noticed some flat locs but they definitely feel rounder after a wash, never thought of why though so thank you 😊

Thanks i learned early in my journey about not properly drying my locs.... Thanks for the info
I kind of like the rough non retwisted look it speaks to my blackness ✊
I really like it to but it can just look like a bad hair day on some people.
I just started my locs last year after I retired. For me and my age I just like them to look a lot neater.
I am a victim of going to bed with wet hair hence flat locs .....
thats really bad for your locs! you could get mildew in them if u dont dry them well
🙋🏽 i’m guilty as well. 😂 just got a cap dryer i can sit under though and thank god my dreads don’t stink and i don’t use anything that can cause buildup.
Giiiiiiiiirl, that makes so much sense!!! I combed out 3 or 4 locs a couple months ago that were waaaaaaay too flat for me. Now I know why -- thanks😊
Thank you my hair is air drying now. Grabbing a dryer to finish them off!
Yessssss! Glad you caught the premiere! 🙌🏾
This was right on time! Thanks for sharing your knowledge once again
Glad it was helpful! And I appreciate you watching!
You did a video like this called Problems with Air Drying a while back😂
Could there possibly be a tutorial for your hairstyle in this video? It's so pretty 😍😍
Edit: Never mind. I see the video now 😊
My hair dries pretty quickly but probably when they get longer than mid back I may employ the use of dryer to help.

I use a hand blow dryer
I have one of these and love it! I’m usually using it for 3 hours to dry these thick girls!😅
do i use hot air or cold air with a blow dryer
I have a hand dryer and the the head cap, but my hand dryer doesn’t fit in the tube for the head cap 😩

could you put a towel over your hair to protect your scalp from being burnt while sitting under the dryer

would bonnet hair dryer work for very long hair? I mean if I fold dreads they don't get as much of air flow throughout?

What salon hair dryer do you suggest ?
i came here bc i have free forms and every time i wash my hair its always hard for me to dry em and when i do they are always damp

Yes you can but you don't have do! Opt for lower heat

Yay! Welcome to the journey!
Thank You 🙏
Okay, I hope this doesn't sound silly, but...can you use a curling iron (wand) on locs, instead if having rollers in and sitting under a dryer?
Only with smaller locs, mainly Sisterlocks.
Sisterlocks as well?
Sisterlocks can definitely be subjected to mildew because of the shear amount of them. I spoke in more detail during my recent live "Air Drying: The Controversy"
I was about to ask the same question.😯
I’m about to take a leaf blower to my head rn no 🧢
Thanks for great info. I have been using my bonnet dryer since beginning my journey.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!!

is it better to dry your locs with cold air or warm air?
